DC’s canceled Batgirlmovie which was led by Leslie Grace as the titular Afro-Latin vigilante is among the shelved movies that fans really wanted to see. Commissioned during a different era and regime of Warner Bros. the movie was in the line of first projects that took the hit when David Zaslav and his management took over. Co-directed by talented duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, the movie seemed an action-packed story with a diverse cast and some legacy characters, which excited the audience the most. A new clip has surfaced online and has once again captured fans’ interest.

A 43-second video featuring some never-before-seen BTS footage from the scrapped Batgirl movie has found its way online, and it shows Barbara Gordon engaging in a fairly brutal-looking scrap with several goons.
As far as we know, this is not star Leslie Grace in the Batgirl suit, but her stunt performer Emely Cartagena.
The impressively choreographed sequence has gained a lot of attention, and following the recent news that Ketchup Entertainment is in advanced negotiations to acquire the rights to Coyote Vs. Acme from Warner Bros., fans are once again calling for the release of Batgirl.

The ‘Batgirl’ movie was supposed to bring the DC superhero to life. It starred Leslie Grace as Batgirl and featured big names like Michael Keaton and Brendan Fraser. The movie was filmed and almost finished. But in August 2022, Warner Bros. Discovery decided not to release it.
This shocked fans and people in the film industry. Some were upset, while others understood the studio’s decision. Recently, behind-the-scenes footage of the movie’s fight scenes has surfaced, making people wonder again—should ‘Batgirl’ have been released?

With Warner Bros. Discovery caught up a storm of complaints surrounding the canceled Coyote Vs. Acme movie, and the eradication of the Looney Tunes franchise from Max, it is only fitting that the ghost of another highly controversial scrapped project is coming back to haunt them. Newly unearthed fight footage from the Leslie Grace-led Batgirl movie, has renewed questions about why Wbd decided to completely abandon the project.
The footage, which features stunt performers Emely Cartagena, Scott Rogers, and Stephen Dunlevy, reveals one of the fight scenes that would have featured in the movie. As you would expect, there are some comments that have said it is probably best the movie was never released, but the vast majority disagree, and now just have even more reason to berate the studio over their decision.

In the past few years, Warner Bros. Discovery shelved several films to obtain massive tax write-offs instead of releasing them, including theatrically, VOD, etc. The films that may never see the light of day are Batgirl, Scoob! Holiday Haunt, and Coyote Vs. Acme. And now a fan has decided to protest Warner Bros. by dressing up as Wile E. Coyote with a sign saying, "Release me!!"

When Zack Snyder made Man of Steel with Henry Cavill, there were no plans of building a Dceu. However, DC executives were eager to catch up with Marvel, who were thriving with their superhero franchise. In their misguided vision for a DC franchise, the studio tried many things unsuccessfully before opting for a complete restructuring under James Gunn.

The Dceu already underwent several course corrections before the restructuring, resulting in a bunch of canceled or abandoned projects. After the new regime took over control, all planned films in the former Dceu were effectively canceled.

'Really Hoping Someone Leaks It': Batgirl Crew Member Recalls DC Movie's 'Soul-Crushing' Cancelation
Over two years after DC Studios controversially canceled its Batgirl film, many still wonder why the DC Extended Universe never saw the light of day. Among those perplexed by DC's decision are the shelved film's crew members, with one claiming the movie was "completely finished" before being axed.
Replying to a video showing behind-the-scenes footage of Batgirl and bemoaning its "soul-crushing" fate, the superhero film's art department assistant, Annie Mitchell, admitted she's still stunned DC went ahead and scrapped the movie while it was deep into the post-production process. Confirming how close Batgirl was to being released, Mitchell said, "It’s insane that they scrapped it. It was literally completely finished, VFX and everything."
@hellenicrequiemIt's actually so soul crushing to see the amount of love and effort put into a film only for it to be turned into a tax write off and completely deleted from existence #lostmedia #batgirl #batgirlmovie...

Warner Bros. Discovery boss David Zaslav's decision to shelve the HBO Max Batgirl movie when it was already so deep into post-production was one of the biggest news stories of 2022, and was met with a significant amount of backlash from every corner of the industry.
The project was scrapped as a tax write-off, with reports doing the rounds at the time that Barbara Gordon's first solo outing simply wasn't very good.
DC Studios co-ceo Peter Safran would later suggest that Batgirl may have been even more of a mess than we'd been led to believe.

It’s been over two years since Warner Bros. canceled DC’s Batgirl movie, and fans still can’t get over it. Well, how can they, especially since the movie was set to feature Brendan Fraser as a supervillain? Can you believe, the Oscar winner, who has spent his entire career playing heroic roles, was hired to play Firefly?

Well, we can’t believe it anymore, now that Warner Bros. has canceled the movie anyway. But all we can do is imagine how cool it would have been to see Brendan Fraser pitted against Michael Keaton’s Batman and Leslie Grace’s Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl.

The DC Universe has a unique opportunity ahead of it. After a decade of DC films with mixed reception, the franchise is receiving a reboot with an all-new creative team, helmed by James Gunn and Peter Safran. The previous iteration, called the DC Extended Universe, kicked off with Zack Snyder's Man of Steel in 2013. While fan reception of the film was somewhat accepting, the darker, more realistic take on Superman it offered created a shaky foundation for the rest of the series.
Additionally, the Dceu jumped straight from a solo Superman film to the crossover Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, which had the lofty job of introducing Batman and Wonder Woman as well as teasing the rest of the Justice League. That movie largely set the tone moving forward. Some entries in the Dceu were good, and some were not so good. A lot of them left dangling...

A common refrain amongst entertainment industry types is that it's a miracle any movie gets made. There are so many moving parts to any production, from ensuring the script has a story audiences will want to see to managing a crew of hundreds to get that story onto film. Even if the final product isn't great artistically, one has to admire the hard work from all of those professionals to get any movie made in the first place. And while a movie can go off the rails at any point, it's astonishing how many are pretty much finished and then just ... never come out.
Just look at the case of the "Toxic Avenger" reboot starring Peter Dinklage and Elijah Wood. It earned widespread acclaim at festivals in 2023, with /Film's review calling it an "avalanche of blood-drenched chaos" (in the best way possible, naturally). Adapting a musical theater behemoth like Wicked is a mammoth task; after all, there is a reason it has taken decades for a screen adaptation. It's no wonder that the tall order ended up going to Jon M. Chu, as he already proved his credentials with his 2020 screen adaptation of In The Heights. The Tony Award-winning musical was the debut musical from Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and is set in Washington Heights, a neighborhood in New York City. Both the stage show and the movie are a celebration of community and culture, set in the buildup and aftermath of a blackout. There is no weak link within its ensemble cast, which includes Melissa Barrera (proving she is more than just a scream queen), Anthony Ramos, Leslie Grace, Corey Hawkins, and Stephanie Beatriz. Bursting with life and energy, Chu proved that he could capture the spectacle of Broadway on the big screen.

Let’s start by giving Warner Bros. Discovery credit. They took a risk in financing “Juror #2,” a $30 million adult drama by a nonagenarian auteur whose last film (“Cry Macho”) grossed $16.5 million worldwide. And here, movie star Clint Eastwood was director only on the intimate, complex morality tale in the shape of a courtroom drama.
Without a seven-decade studio relationship, perhaps no one would back this. But Warners did — and having done so, dropped the ball.
“Juror #2” opened last Friday with little fanfare and less marketing in 31 U.S./Canada theaters as well as six European countries, where it had a more elevated presence. A handful of additional dates were added in the second week, with new cities that included Houston, Austin, Denver, and Portland. The Flash's Supergirl actor Sasha Calle explains how her friendship with Batgirl actor Leslie Grace helped her come to terms with her very brief time in the Dceu. Sasha Calle played an imprisoned, alternate-universe Kara Zor-El a.k.a. Supergirl in The Flash, where Barry Allen meets her while trying to locate Superman. Calle's Supergirl was a highlight of The Flash, receiving plenty of praise for her performance, costume, and action scenes. Sasha Calle, who debuted as Supergirl in The Flash, recently shared her emotions about being replaced in the role. Despite signing a multi-film deal, the change in leadership at DC Studios led to a new casting direction, with Milly Alcock taking over as Kara Zor-El.
Calle expressed her deep love for the character, saying, “I was so deeply in love with that role,” and described her exit as both heartbreaking and confusing. What started as a promise of multiple films turned into just one appearance, making her departure particularly painful.
Calle’s brief time as Supergirl was marked by both studio changes and outside pressures. The Flash struggled with Ezra Miller’s legal troubles and disappointing box office results, making her debut even more challenging.
During this tough time, Calle found support in her friendship with Leslie Grace, who faced her own setback when Warner Bros. Discovery canceled the Batgirl project.

Sasha Calle made her debut as Supergirl in last year's The Flash, but what should have been a joyous introduction to a major superhero franchise was soured by a number of factors, including co-star Ezra Miller's legal troubles, the movie's underperformance at the box office, and the fact that the Dceu was on its last legs.

Sasha Calle was filled with conflicting emotions in the summer of 2023.
On one hand, she was proudly promoting her feature film debut as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl in Andy Muschietti’s The Flash. However, she was the only castmember facing the press at the time, as lead actor, Ezra Miller, was mired in legal controversy throughout the prolonged lead-up to June’s release. On top of that, James Gunn and Peter Safran took the reins at DC Studios in October 2022, announcing a new slate of Dcu projects in January 2023, with only a select number of connections to the roller-coaster ride that was the former Dceu. Thus, Calle’s future as the Kryptonian was in doubt before it even had a chance to lift off onscreen.

After two years, DC's decision to cancel Batgirl has aged poorly. DC shocked the superhero community when it announced that its Batgirl movie was scrapped. The film was directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah and starred Leslie Grace as the titular hero. While many projects can get canceled in development, Batgirl was almost complete with its production, making the decision more surprising. The film was deemed unreleasable after poor test screenings and Warner Bros. canceled it as a tax write-off to make back most of its budget.
While Batgirl's cancelation was disappointing, it was understood that the movie's quality was beyond saving. DC Studios co-chair Peter Safran said via Variety that Batgirl's release would have "hurt DC" and "hurt those people involved." However, DC had a streak of box office flops after the film's cancelation, making the studio's judgment of quality more questionable. Joker: Folie deux is...

Fathom Events and Warner Bros.’ DC Studios are blasting off documentary Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, a favorite from Sundance, and Music Box has the festival’s Grand Jury Prize-winner In The Summers among a handful of solid new release including The Featherweight about boxer Willie Pep, and Who’s Afraid Of Nathan Law? a doc following the heroic Hong Kong student activist.
DC, HBO Documentary Films and CNN Films acquired Super/Man out of the festival. It will debut in cinemas across the U.S. on Saturday with an encore presentation Sept. 25, Reeve’s birthday. Reeve’s definitive portrayal of Clark Kent/Superman over four films set the benchmark for the superhero cinematic universes that dominate cinema today. Warner is the home of Superman and the films that shot the unknown actor to stardom before a tragic horseback riding accident left him a quadriplegic dependent on a ventilator to breathe.

Warner is the home of Superman and the films that shot the unknown actor to stardom before a tragic horseback riding accident left him a quadriplegic dependent on a ventilator to breathe.

Gbenga Akinnagbe, Leslie Grace, and Levon Hawke couldnt have come from more wonderfully disparate origins. Akinnagbe had been stamping an unmistakable imprint on many beloved original series, while Grace climbed the Billboard Charts, then the Gotham City skyline. Hawke, by contrast, cut his teeth acting under Zo Kravitz in her directorial debut Blink Twice and lovingly composing music with his sister, Maya Hawke. Now Grace, Hawke, and Akinnagbe are performing together as an ensemble in Elliott Lesters new Western The Thicket.

To celebrate 30 years of Sideshow Collectibles, one of the most popular distributors in the toys and collectibles market, Hot Toys has decided to dig into one of the most popular video game franchises of all time. The official Hot Toys Instagram revealed two new figures from the third installment in Warner Bros. and Rocksteady Studios, Batman: Arkham Knight. One of the figures features Kevin Conroy's legendary Dark Knight donning a fully gold-plated version of the Batman Beyond suit he wears in the game, and the other is Batgirl with her classic purple and gold suit from her appearance in the Batgirl: A Matter of Family Dlc, which was released as an add-on to the game at a later date. This is a gift to fans still mourning the cancelation of the Batgirl film, which would have seen Leslie Grace take over the titular role with Michael Keaton and J.K. Simmons...

In the highly competitive world of streaming services, Tubi has made a name for itself. It’s a weird name, sure, but it’s a name. Tubi is free with commercials, which companies like Netflix probably think is madness, but more importantly it’s packed with movies and TV shows that pretty much all the other streamers don’t give a crap about.
You can find big releases licensed from major studios, but you can get those anywhere. Try finding the 1988 Canadian TV series “T and T” — about Mister T working as a legal aid — on Netflix or Disney+. They would never. Tubi is the equivalent of the quirky mom and pop video store located just down the street from a parasitic Blockbuster that can’t quite put them out of business, because Blockbuster doesn’t carry esoteric oddities like the 1990 ultra-low budget compilation video “That’s Action” hosted by Robert Culp.

The Thicket's Peter Dinklage & Juliette Lewis On Passion Project, Transforming Into Villain & Action

After a decade of pushing to get the adaptation off the ground, Peter Dinklage's The Thicket is finally being realized. Based on Joe R. Lansdale's 2013 novel of the same name, the Game of Thrones alum first came onboard the adaptation in 2014 as both a star and producer, alongside Gianni Nunnari, Shannon Gaulding and Andre Lemmers. The movie wouldn't gain proper steam until 2020, when pre-production began with director Elliott Lester and stars Noomi Rapace, Charlie Plummer and Sophia Lillis, though the trio would be replaced due to scheduling conflicts after the movie was impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Dinklage would forge on ahead with the movie in 2023 with Yellowjackets' Juliette Lewis, Levon Hawke and Esm Creed-Miles filling in the roles of the previously cast trio. The Thicket is set in post-Civil War America, centering on an innocent young man named Jack,...

Wait, you’re telling me there’s a Tubi original film that doesn’t—how do I put this—suck? Just from the look of the poster, The Thicket seems like a bad career move for Emmy-winner Peter Dinklage, an understandable one for Juliette Lewis, and an act of desperation from a director specializing in pop-star music videos.
I couldn’t have been more wrong. Elliott Lester’s The Thicket is a masterstroke in pace and tone. Like Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven decades prior strips away the facade of the Old West. No, Lester’s great Western trailblazer strips away the lore, presenting a ruthless and cutthroat world unlike any we’ve seen in the genre in years.
Lester’s film captures the true dangers of the frontier, pitiless to the weak. Yet no matter how tough and seasoned these characters are, everyone calls out for their mamas by the end.

Plot: West Texas. A boy who, after his sister is kidnapped by a violent killer known only as Cut Throat Bill, enlists a fierce bounty hunter named Reginald Jones who becomes the leader of the group of outcasts searching for the stolen girl.
Review: If there’s one thing I’ve always appreciated about Peter Dinklage it’s that he often avoids roles that highlight his dwarfism. He’s such a presence that he can take a role intended for a larger actor and make it totally believable. His desire to not be put into a box is quite commendable and it shines through in his work. He’s always putting his best foot forward, and creating interesting characters, which is why I was immediately interested in his new Western, The Thicket. Add in an eclectic group of side characters and you’ve got the makings of one of the better Westerns of the year.

For most independent filmmakers, winning any prize at the Sundance Film Festival on a first feature would be a dream come true. But Alessandra Lacorazza took things a step further on her directorial debut “In the Summers,” winning both the U.S. Grand Prize and the Directing Prize at the 2024 edition of the festival.
The semi-autobiographical film stars Puerto Rican rapper Residente as a divorced father who spends his summers with his two daughters in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The daughters are recast multiple times throughout the film, illustrating how they change over the years while the film remains in a single setting.
“In the Summers” earned largely positive reviews following its Sundance bow, with many critics singling out Lacorazza’s sensitive directorial touch and praising the film’s fragmented narrative structure as an effective storytelling device that allowed it to juxtapose change and consistency.

Veteran actor Michael Keaton recently addressed the surprising cancellation of the movie “Batgirl,” in which he was set to reprise his iconic role as Batman. Keaton starred as Batman in two blockbuster films directed by Tim Burton in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Michael Keaton “Didn’t Care One Way Or Another” About ‘Batgirl’ Cancellation: “Big, Fun, Nice Check”
Michael Keaton is not too upset about the Batgirl movie getting canceled.
In a new interview, the actor talked about the DC film that Warner Bros. ultimately shelved, in which he would have reprised his role of Bruce Wayne.
“I didn’t care one way or another,” Keaton told GQ. “Big, fun, nice check.”
Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah were the directors behind Batgirl, which Keaton says he felt “very badly” for.
“I like those boys. They’re nice guys. I pull for them,” he added. “I want them to succeed, and I think they felt very badly, and that made me feel bad. Me? I’m good.”
Keaton first played the superhero in Tim Burton’s Batman in 1989 and reprised his role in The Flash in 2023.

Michael Keaton reprised his role as Batman in the Warner Bros. Discovery film Batgirl, which was shelved back in 2022. But in a new interview with GQ, Keaton seemed unbothered by the decision.
When asked if he was disappointed by Batgirl’s premature fate, Keaton told the magazine, “No, I didn’t care one way or another. Big, fun, nice check.” The interviewer notes that Keaton then “rubb[ed] his fingers together in the universal gesture for ‘moolah'” — which is fitting, considering the film cost around $90 million to make.
He did, however, swiftly mention that he’s rooting for the film’s directors, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, and feels bad that the plug was pulled on their vision. “I like those boys. They’re nice guys,” Keaton said. “I pull for them. I want them to succeed, and I think they felt very badly, and that made me feel bad.

Michael Keaton is an acting heritage. When you remember the greats of the industry, his name would definitely be one of the first to crop up. That is to be expected for a man who has been a part of Batman, Birdman, and the like. Fate has truly been kind to him.
Yet he has never let the success get to his head. The Industry stalwart is still a man who hasn’t forgotten the importance of the little joys life has to offer, always staying there for the moments that matter, and doing right by his fans. But it seems like one of his statements has landed him in a controversy.

Michael Keaton has reflected on his lost Batman return in the scrapped Leslie Grace-led Batgirl movie. While many fans were massively disappointed at the way the movie was shelved, it seems that Keaton himself is very much over it, but does feel bad for the team behind the movie.
Keaton may have reprised his role as Batman in The Flash, but for months prior to that movies release, many fans believed that the original big screen Dark Knight was set to be a more permanent fixture of the Dceu. Along with that appearance, Keaton was originally meant to appear in the canceled Batgirl movie, and there were rumors that he was potentially getting another solo outing as an older version of Bruce Wayne and his crime-fighting alter-ego. However, behind the scenes changes at Warner Bros. Discovery put an end to those dreams when the film was scrapped in favor of a tax write-off.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice star Michael Keaton speaks out about the ill-fated Batgirl film which never saw the light of day. Despite Batgirl's controversial cancelation, Keaton admits he "didn't care" about the movie's eventual fate.
Speaking with GQ, Keaton, who reprised his role as Batman in the shelved Batgirl movie, was asked whether he was disappointed the DC feature-length project never came out. Keaton bluntly responded, No, I didn't care one way or another. Big, fun, nice check, as he rubbed his hands together, making the money gesture.

When Warner Bros. Discovery decided to pull the plug on Batgirl - despite the fact principal photography had ended - fans and filmmakers alike were left reeling. It was an unprecedented move and one which saw Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah's (Ms. Marvel) DC Comics adaptation deemed "unreleasable" in the press.
Considering the fact moviegoers had already suffered through the likes of Black Adam and The Flash, it was hard to believe a title made for Max could really be all that bad. Ultimately, it felt like David Zaslav simply wanted to save money by scrapping a movie which wouldn't recoup its costs from a streaming debut.
For what it's worth, DC Studios co-ceo Peter Safran has said Batgirl "was not releasable" and praised "Zaslav and the team [for making a] very bold and courageous decision to cancel it because it would have hurt DC."

Unlike scores of Batgirl fans (myself included), Michael Keaton has no regrets about Warner Bros shelving the Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah-directed superhero movie. Keaton suited up as Bruce Wayne/Batman for DC’s The Flash and was supposed to reprise Batman again for Batgirl, but then WB axed the film in favor of a tax cut during a rash of poor decision-making for the company. The move to cancel Batgirl, an all-but-complete film starring actors like Leslie Grace, Brandon Fraser, and J.K. Simmons, sent shockwaves throughout the superhero community, but Keaton appears unaffected.
Speaking with GQ, Michael Keaton discussed Batgirl’s cancellation and whether or not the project’s fate bothers him. “No, I didn’t care one way or another. Big, fun, nice check,” Keaton explains. GQ also mentions that Keaton is “rubbing his fingers together in the universal gesture for moolah.”

You wanna get nuts? Then ask Michael Keaton a question about a controversial topic, and he’ll get nuts.
That’s what GQ discovered when they profiled Keaton in advance of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. The magazine asked Keaton to weigh in on Batgirl, for which he returned as Batman. Even though the movie was almost finished, Warner Bros. decided to shelve it, electing for a tax break instead of completing and releasing the movie. The move outraged anyone who wants a long-running studio like Warner Bros to continue putting out movies. But not Keaton.
“I didn’t care one way or another,” Keaton admitted to GQ. “Big, fun, nice check.” To be clear, Keaton’s only talking for himself, not for any of the up-and-comers who were set back by Warner’s decision. Batgirl starred singer-turned-actor Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon and was directed by Belgian filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.

Batgirl starred singer-turned-actor Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon and was directed by Belgian filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.

Look, I don't want to start off the new week on the wrong foot or anything, but sometimes harsh truths must be told. Despite whatever actors might claim during junket interviews, these thespians don't always (or even usually) sign on the dotted line of major blockbuster roles out of some deep, abiding childhood love of a character and iconography. Robert Downey, Jr. wasn't some lifelong Marvel fan before being cast as Tony Stark, "Star Wars" actors are under no obligations to brush up their Wookieepedia trivia in order to play a guy who swings a laser sword around, and "Eternals" actor Kit Harington recently went so far as to admit that he only joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe because, well, you just don't say no to that kind of opportunity. Oftentimes, a job is just a job ... and that's perfectly okay!

Michael Keaton Admits He 'Didn't Care' About the Batgirl Cancellation - Main Image
Michael Keaton recently opened up about the cancellation of Batgirl and admitted that he was not upset when it happened.
Back in 2022, Warner Bros. notably canceled the Dcu movie that would have featured the debut of Leslie Grace as Batgirl and Keaton's Caped Crusader serving as her mentor. The decision was made due to cost-cutting measures.
The project's cancellation caused a huge uproar among fans as a lot of them were saddened for the people involved in the project and would have loved to see what the film had in store for the character's big-screen debut.

Micheal Keaton was too torn up over Warner Bros. Discovery’s infamous — and wildly unpopular — decision to basically delete its nearly-finished “Batgirl” film.
The DC film, which had been intended for HBO Max, was shelved by Wbd in August 2022 for tax-break purposes. Keaton first reprised his role of Batman for the $90-million movie, which was co-directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah and starred Leslie Grace as the titular superhero. We’ll never see that return to the cowl and cape, but we got plenty of Keaton-back-as-Batman in 2023’s “The Flash.” Brendan Fraser and J.K. Simmons were also part of the “Batgirl” cast.
Now, Keaton tells GQ that he “didn’t care” that “Batgirl” was shelved.
“No, I didn’t care one way or another. Big, fun, nice check,” Keaton said.
However, he added of co-directors El Arbi and Fallah, “I like those boys. They’re nice guys. I pull for them.
