This post contains spoilers for "The White Lotus."
We're past the midway point in the latest season of "The White Lotus," and things are more chaotic than one would expect. Episode 5, "Full-Moon Party," is the peak of anxious anticipation, as it carries the foreboding omen of a catastrophe waiting to happen, thanks to the questionable choices everyone makes. The previous episode saw a freaked-out Gaitok (Tayme Thapthimthong) realize that his security gun is missing, and here, he grapples with the deadly consequences of his professional oversight. Meanwhile, Ratliff brothers Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger) and Lochlan (Sam Nivola) party hard with Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood) and Chloe (Charlotte Le Bon), but the night ends with things getting really, really out of hand. We also witness Timothy (Jason Isaacs) being constantly on edge™, realizing that he needs to face every consequence for being a part of a Wall Street money laundering scheme.

Note: This story contains spoilers from “The White Lotus” Season 3, Episode 5.
After watching Jason Isaacs’ Timothy spiral throughout “The White Lotus” Season 3, the character attempts to take his fate back into his own hands in Episode 5 — an impulse Isaacs said lingers throughout the rest of the season.
In Episode 5, Timothy silently mulls over his future — which is likely going to include prison and frozen assets — and comes to the realization that ending his own life might be his best option. At the end of the episode, Timothy writes a suicide note to his family before pulling the gun he stole from Gaitok (Tayme Thapthimthong) to his head. At the last second, however, he is interrupted by his wife, Victoria (Parker Posey).
“He was about to pull the trigger, when Victoria walks in and he didn’t want her to see it — he left her a note. He wanted her to find it,...

It was only a matter of time.
This season of “The White Lotus” has so far been relatively tame in terms of sex, drugs, violence and overall debauchery. Mention of a party in last week’s episode implied an incoming shift, though, and “The White Lotus” Season 3, Episode 5 delivers on that promise. It is an episode full of reckless partying, lust and more than a few cringe-inducing moments of impulsive degeneracy. Amid all of the chaos, “White Lotus” creator Mike White returns to some of the HBO drama’s long-running themes — namely, the difficulty of cultural assimilation and the unfortunate truth that no amount of wealth or uninhibited living can fill the empty parts within ourselves. The former theme emerges early in the episode.
At dinner, Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook) finally tells her parents about her plan to move to Thailand. Victoria (Parker Posey) reacts poorly, responding to her daughter...

Spoiler Alert: This piece discusses plot points from the fifth episode of The White Lotus.
The White Lotus is in its full moon party era and “sh*t’s about to get crazy”, according to Patrick Schwarzenegger’s Saxon.
The fifth episode of the HBO series’ third season is pure hedonism as Saxon, Sam Nivola’s Lochlan, Aimee Lou Wood’s Chelsea and Charlotte Le Bob’s Chloe head to the beach with some mind-altering substances and Michelle Monaghan’s Jaclyn, Leslie Bibb’s Kate and Carrie Coon’s Laurie bring some men back to theirs for a pool party.
There is, however, a dark side to the frivolity as Jason Isaacs’ Timothy struggles to deal with the fallout of his legal problems, not helped by the fact that he stole Tayme Thapthimthong’s Gaitok’s gun, and Walton Goggins’ Rick is in Bangkok looking for the man who killed his father,...

Quick LinksThe First Three Episodes of The White Lotus Season 3 Kept Rick's Motivation a Complete MysteryWhy Did Rick Really Go to Thailand With Chelsea?Where Could Rick's Story Possibly Go From Here?
The third season of HBO's The White Lotus has introduced an entirely new cast of characters, and viewers are finding themselves just as, if not more, invested in their developments and exploits as those of the previous two seasons. One guest at the resort that many fans are currently seeing themselves drawn to the most is Rick Hatchett, played by Walton Goggins. Until now, not much had been known about his character or his true reasoning for dragging his girlfriend, Chelsea, to the White Lotus resort in Thailand. Episode 4, "Hide and Seek", has finally given them an answer, however, and it now has the fans all on the edge of their seats to find out what it could lead to next.

This post contains spoilers from The White Lotus season 3 episode 4 from this point forward.
For the first three episodes of The White Lotus season 3, Timothy Ratliff's (Jason Isaacs) story has been pretty much the same. He's buckling under the weight of the trouble back home with his business, trouble that will most certainly put him behind bars once his Thailand family vacation is over. There hasn't been much movement thus far, but in episode 4, the crash out begins.
Tim has been taking his wife's beloved Lorazepam, a prescription drug used to treat anxiety and other conditions. But the Ratliff parents aren't using the pills for their intended purpose, and the more Tim begins to rely on the stolen medication to numb himself to the secret that he's keeping, the worse off he becomes. Well, for us, it's selfishly much more entertaining!

In one of the early scenes of this week’s “The White Lotus,” meditation expert Amrita (Shalini Peiris) offers Rick (Walton Goggins) some sincere advice.
“I hope you will hear me when I say you are not stuck,” she tells him. “You can let go of your story. You can escape the karmic cycle.” The feeling of being trapped is present throughout all of “The White Lotus” Season 3 Episode 4, as is the desire for escape. The seeds of it are planted in the episode’s opening scene, in which Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan) tries to convince her younger husband Harrison to return her calls. “I’ll tell you more when you call me back, so call me back,” she says.
That same morning, Jaclyn gets snippy with Kate (Leslie Bibb) when the latter chides her for using her phone at the resort. “Harrison’s gone a little Awol. I think he...

Is it even “The White Lotus” if you’re not on the edge of your seat with secondhand social anxiety? Season 3, Episode 4 of Mike White’s stressful satire ratchets up the tension and the stakes, leaving viewers with a midseason cliffhanger.
Written and directed by White, “Hide or Seek” is basically part one of two, setting up next week’s “Full Moon Party.” By the hours end, almost every character is left in a state of uncertainty — a heightened one, rather, since one of them is inevitably going to end up dead in the future. This perhaps truest for Belinda (Natasha Rothwell), who follows her gut instinct that she correctly identified Greg/Gary (Jon Gries) and learns that he’s a person of interest in Tanya’s (Jennifer Coolidge) suspicious death. There’s not a lot of Belinda in this episode and she’s mostly alone, with Rothwell superbly carrying...

The White Lotus resort chain should be known for its body count as much as for the luxury at this point.
Season 3 of the HBO series is finally starting to add suspicion to a number of the guests staying at the Thailand location. Some suspects already hold some real likelihood – here’s looking at you Greg and Rick – while others are just giving slightly off energy.
There’s a shooter walking among the many people staying at the wellness resort, and these are the most likely to be the one with the gun when the season finale rolls around in a couple weeks.
Note: This story will be updated as new clues are revealed the rest of Season 3

Greg (Jon Gries) — or Gary depending on when you met him — is the only person in the orbit of the upcoming shooting with blood on his hands.

Editor’s Note: The following article contains spoilers for “The White Lotus” Season 3, Episode 3.
Ahead of the premiere of “The White Lotus” Season 3, IndieWire spoke with Natasha Rothwell, who plays Belinda on the series. Belinda is just one of many characters in danger of ending up dead at the end of an uneasy week at the titular Thailand resort, and Rothwell was, of course, under strict orders not to give away the ending.
“God willing, I survive this season,” she said.
I couldn’t help but interject: “I’m really worried.”
“You should be,” said Rothwell. “Shit’s about to pop off. I’m stressed and I already know what happens. I stay stressed.”
That’s pretty much the sentiment governing Season 3, Episode 3, “The Meaning of Dreams,” written and directed by showrunner Mike White. All our key characters are inching toward catastrophe, whether that’s ending up dead in the...

[This story contains spoilers for The White Lotus seasons one, two and three.]
Though the beloved Jennifer Coolidge isn’t in The White Lotus season three, she still wants her character avenged.
While speaking with Forbes recently, the actress noted she’s keeping up with the new season that’s taking place in Thailand and she’s “envious as hell.”
Coolidge played fan-favorite Tanya in the first two seasons of The White Lotus before her character met a tragic demise at the end of the second installment. (Who can forget her iconic line: “These gays, they’re trying to murder me.”) She also won Emmys for both performances.
After Forbes‘ Jeff Conway suggested she should return as a twin sister to Tanya, the Riff Raff actress responded, “I know! Look, it’s not like I haven’t wished or whatever, but it isn’t happening. It doesn’t matter — they don’t need me. Mike White...

In the first season of Mike White's globe-trotting anthology series "The White Lotus," actors like Connie Britton, Steve Zahn, Murray Bartlett, Jennifer Coolidge, and Natasha Rothwell brought their characters to the stunningly beautiful island of Maui in Hawai'i. Then, for the second go-around, White and his cast, including a returning Coolidge alongside Michael Imperioli, F. Murray Abraham, Aubrey Plaza, Meghann Fahy, and Theo James, headed to the town of Taormina in Sicily. Clearly, White — and HBO, the network behind "The White Lotus" — will spare no expense to shoot on location. So, where was Season 3 shot?

HBO might just have its most popular season of The White Lotus yet.
Per the company, 3.4M U.S. cross-platform viewers tuned in for the second episode on Sunday night, which marks a 40% increase over the premiere episode’s 2.4M.
Speaking of the premiere, it has now amassed 10.2M viewers in the U.S., up 92% from the Season 2 premiere episode’s audience in the first week of availability. In terms of same-day viewers, the second episode of Season 3 is also already outperforming the second episode of Season 2, boding well for the remainder of the season.
The White Lotus is now apparently the second largest returning original series in platform history, behind only House of the Dragon Season 2.
The Season 2 finale still holds the series-high same-day audience of 4.1M viewers, but it seems as though the third season is on its way to surpassing that as well, and it could even...

There’s great drama to be found in irony, and “The White Lotus” knows this better than most shows. Sometimes there’s nothing less relaxing than going on vacation, as Tim Ratliff (Jason Isaacs) is starting to realize, and sometimes the most toxic people in our lives can be our closest friends. That contradiction is explored with uncomfortable accuracy in the opening of Season 3, Episode 2, which begins with Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan) and Kate (Leslie Bibb) using Laurie’s (Carrie Coon) early excusal from their late-night drinking sesh to throw thinly-veiled jabs at their friend’s life.
After heaping praise upon her in the “White Lotus” Season 3 premiere, Jaclyn and Kate exchange gossip about Laurie’s career, her daughter and even her divorce. We all look for some kind of validation in our friends. The trick is doing it without tearing them down, which is a balance that neither Kate nor Jaclyn seem interested in striking.

Just two episodes in, “The White Lotus” Season 3 introduced a menacing gunman to the Thailand resort, which star Tayme Thapthimthong said alters Gaitok’s “whole perspective” moving forward.
In Episode 2, a mysterious van enters the White Lotus premises while Gaitok (Thapthimthong) speaks with Valentin (Arnas Fedaravičius) and the gate to the resort remains open, ushering in a robbery to the hotel’s luxury store. It takes me less than 24 hours into a vacation to feel like I’ve been there for ages. The suitcase is open, the clothes are scattered, the toiletries displayed on the bathroom counter like I live there. I quickly forget about work (sorry to my editors) and other life stressors and the outside world in general. Whether it’s a wedding, a family visit, or a pure rest vacation, I’m locked in.

If you watched Sunday’s Season 3 premiere of “The White Lotus” on HBO, you may have woken up with a Monday diagnosis of wanderlust.
Sure, the drama from Emmy-winning creator and showrunner Mike White centers on the darker shades of humanity — and systematically climaxes in at least one death of a character we have come to love over their one-week stay in paradise. But the backdrops of Hawaii, Sicily and now Thailand are mouthwatering and awe-inspiring enough that we can forgive little things like murder and manipulation if it means enjoying a chilled cocktail, a pool full of eye candy and a bottle of Spf 50 in the lead-up to disaster.
“The White Lotus” Season 3 might feature its most exotically intoxicating locale yet: Thailand. The series has built its reputation through incisive and lurid depictions of American wealth, tensions between class and race and other taboos that keep the human condition ticking.

In the video above, Lisa tells TVLine how her time staying in five-star hotels with Blackpink helped inform her role as Mook, as she observed the hotel staff and “the way they talk to the guests. The third season of The White Lotus opened to the show’s largest premiere audience so far.
The HBO series brought in 2.4 million cross-platform viewers on its opening night Sunday, a 57 percent increase on the season two premiere (1.5 million). The night one figure includes the on-air premiere and replays on HBO and streaming on Max.
After 36 hours — including the Presidents Day holiday — HBO says the premiere grew to 4.6 million viewers, double the audience for season two’s first episode over the same amount of time. Viewing in Europe and Latin America more than tripled compared to the season two premiere, HBO says (though it didn’t provide any data the global audience).
The Thailand-set third season of Mike White’s satire follows another group of privileged guests at the White Lotus resort, the staff there, and — it’s hardly a spoiler to say at this point — a murder mystery, as...

HBO is no stranger to successful television series, but few of them have continuously kept their quality throughout all seasons. The black comedy anthology The White Lotus is among them.
The White Lotus premiered in 2021 and it was originally intended as a six-part limited series. Following the success with the critics and the audience, HBO further renewed it for Season 2 and later Seasons 3 and 4. After the longest break yet, The White Lotus Season 3 is officially out, and it has a near-perfect audience score onRotten Tomatoes.

You know how you check the calendar every day leading up to a long-needed vacation? That’s us with “The White Lotus,” which returns to HBO on February 16. Mike White’s tense limited series moves to Thailand this season, with a (mostly) brand-new cast of characters seeking solace from their daily lives — and at least one unexpected death.
The ensemble includes a nuclear family, group of old friends, an unlikely couple, and Season 1’s Belinda (Natasha Rothwell) — among many more. Below, the cast break down who’s who in their own words, hinting at the dynamics and twists to come.
The Girl Gang
Kate (Leslie Bibb), Laurie (Carrie Coon), and Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan) have known each other since childhood and are grateful for a weekend alone together after too long — but Jaclyn is now a famous actress living a life that her friends can never understand, and funding the trip for all three of them.

How is the White Lotus still in business? The luxury resort that functions as a setting for each season of Mike White’s eponymous HBO series has blood on its hands — and that doesn’t change in Season 3, Episode 1: “Same Spirits, New Forms.”
While other seasons opened with the discovery or body or reveal that someone died, Season 3’s cold open unfolds at the White Lotus in Thailand, where Zion’s (Nicholas Duvernay) meditation is interrupted by gunshots. He’s immediately terrified for the safety of his mother — as are all viewers who put together that this is Belinda’s (Natasha Rothwell) son — and then a body floats toward him.
It’s shrewd of White to start the season this way, immediately delineating Season 3’s death from its predecessors. It could still have been an accident, but the implied violence and visibly widespread fear add new tension (as does...

Get your passports ready: We’re kicking off a new luxury vacation with HBO’s The White Lotus — and you might be shocked when you see who’s tagging along.

There are three categories of people eagerly anticipating the return of Mike White's superb satire anthology series, "The White Lotus." Group A are those who obsessively watched the first two seasons and are frothing at the mouth wondering what will be the new, memorable "these gays are trying to kill me" quote that will become their whole personality. Group B are those who love great television and are capable of being Normal About It -- at least enough to differentiate themselves from Group A.
But season 3 has introduced a new category that already has a name — welcome to the White Lotus party Blink (and/or Lillies)! The newest season of "The White Lotus" marks the debut of international superstar and Thailand-born Blackpink member Lalisa Manoban, aka Lisa. She plays Mook, a health mentor for guests of the White Lotus Thailand resort and sometimes performer during the customary evening entertainment.

“The White Lotus” Season 3 is finally here. As is always the case with the HBO anthology series, though, it’s returned with a new cast of actors and characters for viewers to follow and either grow to love or revile. “The White Lotus” has also left its Hawaii and Italy hotels behind in favor of a new exotic setting: a wellness retreat in Thailand. Prepare for a lot of awkward social moments, barely hidden resentment, and, of course, some murder.
Here are all the characters you need to know in “The White Lotus” Season 3 as well as who play them.

Following the shocking death of Jennifer Coolidge’s Tanya McQuoid in the Season 2 finale, Natasha Rothwell recalled her reaction to the scene and what she texted Coolidge afterward.

You know that saying “Wherever you go, there you are”? That definitely applies to the pampered hotel guests on HBO’s The White Lotus, who bring all of their flaws and dysfunction with them to whatever exotic locale they’re visiting. But it also applies to the show itself, which returns this Sunday at 9/8c for Season 3 (I’ve seen the first six episodes) and goes back to a lot of the same character archetypes and themes we saw in the first two seasons. The formula still works, though, and with Season 3 offering an extravagant buffet of standout performances and shocking plot twists,...

As the bullet-strewn finale of The White Lotus Season 2 confirmed, he has no problem killing off (albeit in spectacular fashion) lovingly crafted characters in the name of his sharp, ruthless brand of satire. So, when another body floats into frame within the first moments of Season 3, it all but comes with a label attached to its toe: “Nobody is safe.”
White has gone bigger with the third instalment of his opulent anthology, which loosely focuses on religion (Season 1 explored racial tension; Season 2 focused on sex). The core cast remains a similar size, with the guests checking in this time around featuring a moneyed, five-strong family hailing from North Carolina (with parents played by Jason Isaacs and Parker Posey); three childhood friends in their mid-forties; and a mysterious rogue (Walton Goggins) and his younger girlfriend (Aimee Lou Wood...

The third season of HBO’s Emmy-winning satire The White Lotus takes place at yet another location of the titular fictional hotel chain, with Thailand following Hawaii and Sicily. In the opening scene of the season premiere, a character who has spent a lot of time at the Hawaii resort considers this new location and suggests, “It’s actually really similar. Except there’s no monkeys in Hawaii.”
This is, perhaps, a bit of a meta confession by White Lotus writer-director Mike White. If the Sicily season at times evoked...

Plot: This social satire is set at an exclusive Thai resort and follows the exploits of various guests and employees over the span of a week.
Review: It goes without saying that The White Lotus is one of the best shows on television. Originally envisioned as a limited series, the critical response to Mike White’s dark comedy earned it a second season. Transformed from a standalone tale to an anthology that travels to different global locales, The White Lotus uniquely connects certain characters and plot threads through each season while introducing all new characters with their own complex storylines and motivations. The third season follows the Hawaii and Italy set chapters before it and explores the patrons of the titular resort’s Thai location. Led by an ensemble packed with talent, including Jason Isaacs, Parker Posey, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Michelle Monaghan, Carrie Coon, Leslie Bibb, and Walton Goggins, the third...

If you bemoan the reboot/remake culture in film and television for long enough, somebody will inevitably bring up theater.
Why, pray tell, is it creatively bankrupt to rehash Doogie Howser, M.D., or American Gigolo, but perfectly acceptable for productions of Macbeth or Oedipus or Oklahoma! to come and go in regular cycles? You don’t watch a new production of Romeo & Juliet to see if those crazy underaged lovers will make it this time, but to experience how a new director and cast put a personal stamp on the material — and how, through finding distinctive elements within a familiar story, you can still be moved or astonished.
It may be worth considering that when approaching Mike White’s new season of The White Lotus.

“The White Lotus” Season 3 — once again scripted, directed, and created by Mike White — begins with a moment of zen. Ben Kutchins’ camera snakes up a tree branch as a monkey looks through the Thailand woods into the newest location of the titular resort while a guest takes a meditation class.
“Calm our chattering monkey minds, and find what is timeless,” the Lotus employee remarks — a self-help axiom that doubles nicely as a thesis statement for the characters we’ll soon meet. It’s only a matter of time before the harshness of reality pierces the presumed tranquility of this idyllic setting. In short, welcome back to another season of mayhem and murder at the White Lotus.
If this latest reiteration of White’s award-winning series feels familiar, that’s a feature not a bug. As indicated by the Buddhist statues that dot the property of the Thai outpost, this season...

Every season of Mike White’s black comedy anthology series The White Lotus begins at the end—namely, with a flash forward to the aftermath of a murder. In season one, it was to a body being loaded onto a plane heading out of Hawaii, and in season two, it was to a corpse floating toward a Sicilian beach. The show’s third season starts even closer to the action, with gunfire interrupting the birdsong at a luxurious island resort in Thailand, before catapulting us into the past, as tourists approach their doomed Eden by boat.
Godspeed to these travelers, whose cursed vacation makes for rather entertaining viewing. Rick (Walton Goggins), a withdrawn grump who reveals flashes of vulpine charm, is here with his younger, new-agey girlfriend, Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood), who radiates enough vim to turn their sparkless relationship into a star-crossed romance. Longtime friends Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan), Laurie...
