This article contains surprisingly gory spoilers for "Severance" season 2, episode 10 -- "Cold Harbor"
Like just about every other sci-fi thriller out there, "Severance" has been known to get its hands dirty on occasion. However, the show is nowhere near as bloody as you'd expect from a dystopian show about manipulated low-level workers struggling against a powerful megacorporation with a built-in religious cult and intentions of global dominance. In fact, I'd argue that a relative lack of physical brutality is a large part of the series' allure, as it allows "Severance" to focus on the impending sense of white collar doom that's both its crooked backbone and its greatest asset. But what would "Severance" look like if it woke up and chose violence? How would this impact the show's atmosphere going forward?

If the Season 2 finale of Severance had you seeing red, that's exactly what the producers intended.
The bold new color palette — which was introduced so memorably in the final frame of the episode — was just one of the burning questions discussed in a standing room only Q&a on Saturday with the Apple TV+ series' creative team at the Aero Theater in Santa Monica, following a screening of the Season 2 finale. The panel included executive producer and director Ben Stiller; creator, executive producer, and writer Dan Erickson; executive producer and actor Adam Scott; executive producer and actor Patricia Arquette; and actors Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, Zach Cherry, Dichen Lachman, Gwendoline Christie, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Jen Tullock, Michael Chernus, and Sarah Bock.
The event capped off American Cinematheque's Severance week, which also featured screenings of films starring the cast, including Zoolander (Stiller), Step Brothers (Scott), True Romance (Arquette), Barton Fink...

This article contains Spoilers for Severance Season 2, Episode 10, "Cold Harbor."
Apple TV+’s Severancewas renewed for a third season just hours after the Season 2 finale premiered on the streamer and the cliffhanger ending has a few of the show’s stars wondering what is next for their characters.
The finale, titled “Cold Harbor," left viewers clutching their proverbial pearls as Innie Mark S. (Adam Scott) chose Helly R. (Britt Lower) over his outie’s wife, Gemma (Dichen Lachman), whom he helped to escape from the testing floor at Lumon. When on the testing floor, Lumon’s severed workers become their “outies” and Mark Scout is temporarily reunited with Gemma.
Once back on the severed floor, Innie Mark helps Gemma escape, which she does, begging Mark to go through the door to be with her. However, if Innie Mark does go, he will effectively die. But, as the ending unfolded, Mark...

The final test of its vigor was the ending, which had big shoes to fill after the stunning production of the season 1 finale. At least, director Ben Stiller and showrunner Dan Erickson promise, we won't have to wait another three years for the next season, which was confirmed by Apple CEO Tim Cook on the morning of March 21 on Twitter, followed by a 20-second teaser which was also posted to AppleTV's YouTube channel.

The “Music Dance Experience” from Severance’sSeason 1 episode, “Defiant Jazz,” has spawned countless memes and GIFs showcasing actor Tramell Tillman’s Mr. Milchick’s impressive dancing skills. That scene, while hard to duplicate or top, was given a run for its money in the Season 2 finale. The tenth episode of the Apple TV+ series once again highlighted the versatility of the manager of Lumon’s severed floor.
In “Cold Harbor,” when Mark S. (Adam Scott) finishes refining the file of the same name, Mr. Milchick (after bolting away from Dylan G.) leads Lumon’s Department of Choreography and Merriment in a jubilant celebration.
The Music Dance Experience Can’t Be Repeated

Coming just hours after the show’s Season 2 finale shook fans, the “Severance” PaleyFest panel rocked the Dolby Theatre by unleashing a live marching band number — recreating a memorable moment from the episode.
Tramell Tillman, who plays Mr. Milchick, led a marching band through the Dolby Theatre. Prior to the sudden performance, Tillman had been the only one out of the cast and creative team to not show up on stage when his name was called. Just as the panel was getting started — and after Stiller explained that the actor “goes off the grid” at times — Tillman made his entrance with the band.
The Season 2 finale, which was released the day prior to the panel, involves Mr. Milchick acting as a drum major during an elaborate marching band sequence.

This article contains spoilers for "Severance" season 2 episode 10, "Cold Harbor"
From innies and outies to characters who are entirely unsevered (as far as we know), you can count on nearly every "Severance" character to face untold existential hurdles that few mere mortals are equipped to comprehend, let alone handle. Unless a character is armed with the ironclad self-obsession of Ricken Hale (Michael Chernus) or the megalomaniac devotion of Jame Eagan (Michael Siberry), the world Lumon Industries created seems custom designed to grind a person down.
The company, on the other hand, is built to endure. Over two seasons of "Severance," nothing the protagonists have managed to do has really swayed Lumon in any significant way beyond tiny inconveniences, minor PR crises, and the occasional personnel change ... until now.

Spoilers ahead for “Severance” Season 2, Episode 10.
Heading into Season 2, “Severance” star Tramell Tillman had one request for series creator Dan Erickson and director Ben Stiller: “Please don’t make me dance in Season 2.”
“The Music Dance Experience [in Season 1] was so iconic, and I loved how people embraced that moment,” Tillman told TheWrap. “It has become meme-ed over and over and over again, it’s on T-shirts and whatnot. It’s beautiful. But there are some things that you can’t recreate.”
Tillman was adamant that he didn’t want to set up the expectation that Mr. Milchick dances every season. But when Stiller mentioned he was bringing in a marching band for the Season 2 finale, Tillman started to change his tune.
“I got excited. I sat up. I said, ‘Well, wait, what is this marching band? Is this a military-style marching band? Is this a band that’s a similar to those at HBCUs?...

The Severance Season 2 finale, “Cold Harbor,” answered a lot of burning questions fans had, including what Cold Harbor actually is and (sort of) what’s going on with those goats. Fans got other resolutions in prior episodes as well, including the answer to where Gemma (Dichen Lachman) has been all the time and why Harmony (Patricia Arquette) felt so slighted by Lumon firing her (and why Helena — Britt Lower — still offered her a job to placate her).
The ending was beautifully, emotionally presented, but left fans with yet another epic cliffhanger to digest for the next little while until a not-yet-confirmed Season 3 arrives (it’s likely the show will be renewed). There are plenty of questions that remain, but one big, new question has arrived that’s crucial to how the story will move forward.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for Season 2, Episode 10 of “Severance,” streaming now on Apple TV+.
Tramell Tillman was done dancing.
After his “Severance” character, Mr. Milchick, conducted a memorable and oft-memed “Music Dance Experience” in the Apple TV+ show’s first season, he didn’t think it was possible to catch lightning in a bottle again.
But when director and executive producer Ben Stiller pitched him on a marching band sequence in the Season 2 finale, “Cold Harbor,” Tillman saw an opportunity to tap into his roots. “I went to two HBCUs, and one of them was Jackson State University. They housed the Sonic Boom of the South, one of the best marching bands in the country, and I would watch them during my undergrad years with such awe and amazement in the athleticism, the creativity and the passion that these musicians and dancers served with,” he tells Variety.

It's not just you. Even the Severance brain trust admits the explosive Season 2 finale was just as "heartbreaking" to film as it was to watch.
Core members of the Apple TV+ series' creative team and cast reunited on Friday at the jammed-to-capacity Dolby Theater in Hollywood to rewatch the episode "Cold Harbor" and then break down the game-changing season for the opening night of Paley Fest 2025, an annual festival showcasing the best in television ahead of Emmy voting.
"Watching with this audience has been one of my most special experiences with this show," Ben Stiller told the crowd of roughly 3,300 fans. Stiller, who executive produces the series and has directed most of the episodes, including the season finale, was joined by creator Dan Erickson and cast members Adam Scott, Patricia Arquette, Britt Lower, Zach Cherry, Jen Tullock, Dichen Lachman, Tramell Tillman, Michael Chernus, Sarah Bock, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, and Gwendoline Christie.

This article contains spoilers for "Severance" season 2 in general, and Mr. Milchick in particular.
Seth Milchick (Tramell Tillman) is the kind of guy the protagonists of Mike Judge's 1999 black comedy "Office Space" would have nightmares about. He's a born middle manager with an exaggeratedly friendly and calm demeanor that nevertheless veers toward stern sharpness whenever someone starts pushing the boundaries of the Lumon policies he enforces. Sharply dressed, well-built, and nigh-unfailingly polite, Mr. Milchick seems like a James Bond villain's elite henchman who adheres to a white collar gimmick until it's time to put 007 in a headlock -- only, he never, ever drops the facade. After two seasons of "Severance," Milchick has only offered brief glimpses of a true human being underneath his businesslike exterior -- and even then, it tends to take extensive humiliation or physical pain for him to do so.

As Severance fans continue debating the innies and outies of Friday's watercooler Season 2 finale, the Apple TV+ show is in a strong position to grow like a black diamond watermelon at the 2025 Emmys.
Three years ago, for Season 1, the sci-fi show about office drones who separate their workplace memories from their normal memories received 14 Emmy nominations and won two (Best Main Title Design and Best Music Composition). Succession and Ozark (which have been put out to pasture) and Squid Game (which recently had a muted Season 2 return) bested Severance in all the above-the-line categories.
Severance's 2022 bids were for drama series, lead actor Adam Scott, supporting actress Patricia Arquette, supporting actor John Turturro, supporting actor Christopher Walken, director Ben Stiller, writer Dan Erickson, casting, main title theme music, main title design, music composition, picture editing x2, and production design.
Assuming it nabs those same nominations again, the show would make do with 13 citations.

Praise Kier! This article contains major spoilers for the season 2 finale of "Severance."
No matter what you might have had on your "Severance" Bingo card for the final episode of a phenomenal second season, we're going to go out on a limb and say nobody predicted that. The cross-cutting conversation between Mark Scout's (Adam Scott) innie and outie, his innie's highly-anticipated completion of the Cold Harbor file, and their combined attempt to free Gemma (Dichen Lachman) before his innie ultimately chose to stay behind with Helly R. (Britt Lower) are undoubtedly among the biggest reveals and most significant developments in this series to date, of course. But don't let all the ceaseless demands for our entertainment to do nothing but "advance the plot" distract from one of the funniest and most bizarre additions to Lumon Industries yet: the musical department known as Choreography and Merriment.

Adam Scott in “Severance,” now streaming on Apple TV+. Photo Credit: Apple TV+ Severance has captivated audiences around the world with its mind-bending premise and moving character journeys. News of the acclaimed series’ third season renewal was met with widespread celebration among its devoted fans. Masterfully crafted by creator Dan Erickson and brought to life under Ben Stiller’s visionary direction, Severance explores the unsettling implications of Lumon Industries’ controversial “severance” procedure. This experimental operation surgically divides employees’ consciousness, severing their work and personal memories into two distinct existences. Few concepts are as hauntingly original or thought-provoking as this dystopian division of self. Adam Scott shines as Mark Scout, the conflicted lead at the center of Severance. Mark’s struggle to untangle the blurred lines between his fractured identities becomes even more intense as Lumon’s seemingly perfect severance system begins to unravel. The show’s success is bolstered by a remarkable ensemble cast,...

Is anyone else disappointed with Seth Milchick’s arc this season? Severance Season 2 finale gave viewers an explosive ending, but we can’t help but feel a little unsatisfied with how Milchick’s story ran. With the news that Apple finally confirmed a third installment, we’re relieved and hopeful that we will see some big action from the character.
Tramell Tillman in Severance / Credits: Apple TV+
The second season saw Milchick take over the severed floor as manager, but it’s evident that his loyalty to Lumon wasn’t as firm as it was before. We saw the signs, but we’re also shocked that he did not snap even under pressure.
Severance’s Seth Milchick needs to shake things up in Season 3

Warning: this article contains major spoilers for the finale of Severance Season 2.
“They give us half a life and think we won’t fight for it.” These rousing words, uttered by Helly R (Britt Lower) in the closing act of Severance Season 2, do a pretty good job of summing up what this entire season of Apple TV+’s enigmatic drama have all been about. During the past 10 instalments, we’ve witnessed the Innies of the severed floor fight for the right to exist, despite having little to no control over how and when they get to do so. Gone is the Helly R of Season 1, who pleaded with her Outie to let her resign, going to the extent of trying to take her own life to find release from Lumon’s endless white corridors. Season 2 was all about the Innies trying to take back some power, and exert it over Lumon,...

Note: This story contains spoilers from “Severance” Season 2, Episode 10.
“Severance” served up it’s expectedly tense Season 2 finale, and in typical form offered up a number of questions to mull over until Season 3.
Mark (Adam Scott) and Helly (Britt Lower) are last seen fleeing through the emergency light-soaked halls of the severed floor running Kier knows where. While Mark chose to help break Gemma (Dichen Lachman) out from her Cold Harbor prison, he chose not to reunite his outie with his not-dead wife. On top of all that, it seems that the other innies of the floor are finally deciding to fight back against the Lumon administration.
Below, we look at the biggest hanging questions left by Season 2 as the hopefully not to long wait for Season 3 begins.
Will there be a Season 3?
Yes! It was announced the day the Season 2 finale released that — unsurprisingly — Apple TV+ renewed “Severance” for a third season.

Severance renewed for season 3 (Photo Credit: Apple TV+)
Apple TV+ is rewarding Severance fans with another season of the critically acclaimed sci-fi workplace drama. The streamer renewed the award-winning series for a third season, and Severance creator Dan Erickson claims it won’t take another three years to arrive.
“We’re hoping that there are no massive strikes or pandemics or fissures opening up in the crest of the Earth that end up delaying us. Barring that, I’d certainly hope that we’d get this one out a bit sooner,” said Erickson in an interview with Variety. “But, Severance has always been a show that takes a long time to make, and we’re proud of what we came up with, even though it took quite a long time.”
The series premiered on February 18, 2022, with season two debuting on January 17, 2025. The game-changing season two finale aired on March 20, 2025.

Hey, have you heard about this little show on TV called "Severance"? It's on this little-known streamer called Apple TV+, it just wrapped up its thrilling and mystery-laden second season, and, oh yeah, it's all anyone can talk about these days. Who knew that a dark office satire all about taking work/life balance to the furthest possible extreme would resonate with audiences as much as it has? Well, that's precisely what's helped turn this series from a quirky oddity into a runaway pop-culture sensation.
"Severance" comes from creator Dan Erickson and executive producer/director Ben Stiller, both of whom crafted a labyrinthine world that's just a few degrees off from our own. Every bit of that tireless world-building effort led to a sophomore season that all but blew viewers away, putting our main characters through the wringer and leading to a finale that left us waiting on the edge of our seats for more.

Yes, “Severance” will be back for Season 3. The Emmy- and Peabody Award-winning Apple TV+ series has been renewed for a third season, just hours after the the Season 2 finale dropped on the streaming service, leaving fans even more puzzled by the workplace thriller. Season 2 recently made history as the most-watched series ever on the Apple platform.
“Making ‘Severance’ has been one of the most creatively exciting experiences I’ve ever been a part of,” executive producer and director Ben Stiller said in an official statement. “While I have no memory of this, I’m told making Season 3 will be equally enjoyable, though any recollection of these future events will be forever and irrevocably wiped from my memory as well.”
Stiller helped announce the renewal by tweeting, “So some fans are asking for Season 3 of ‘Severance.’ What do you say, Tim Cook?” Apple CEO Tim Cook replied, “Season 3 of ‘Severance’ is available upon request.

Today might be the 10th and final episode of Severance Season 2 on Apple TV, but have no fear, because the beloved sci-fi thriller isn't going anywhere anytime soon. The hit show created by Dan Erickson that debuted in 2022 and managed to gain a cult following before it became Apple's most-watched series ever, has officially been renewed for Season 3.
Per Variety, Severance will be back for Season 3, but exactly when that will be is anyone's guess at this point. It was three years between Seasons 1 and 2, but for executive producer Ben Stiller, he called his time on the show one of the most creatively exciting he's ever had in a humorous statement released today:

Severance's Season 2 finale answers some critical questions — the purpose of Cold Harbor is revealed; we finally know what the goats are for — but it sets up many others. Fortunately, there is more innie action to come: Apple TV+ announced early Friday that it renewed Severance for a third season. So, with that in mind, here are 10 lingering head-scratchers that Severance must address in Season 3.
Why Mark?
Mark (Adam Scott) seems to be some kind of chosen one, but we don’t know why. What about him, a seemingly ordinary man, made Lumon choose him for this vital task? There are theories that Lumon, for some reason, sees him as the reincarnation of Kier Eagan or that he and Helly will produce a child that is the reincarnation of or true heir to Kier Eagan. Praise Kier! “Severance” will return for Season 3 at Apple TV+.
It’s not surprising that the streamer would be interested in more episodes of the drama from Dan Erickson and Ben Stiller. “Severance” first premiered in February 2022. It quickly became a breakout hit for Apple, garnering widespread critical acclaim as well as 14 nominations during the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards and Creative Arts Emmy Awards. That first season ultimately took home two wins for Outstanding Main Title Design and Outstanding Music Composition for a Series in the Original Dramatic Score subcategory.
Season 2 has been similarly praised by critics as both installments currently have 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. During its premiere week, “Severance” Season 2 secured 598 million viewing minutes, according to Nielsen measurements. That week the series ranked No. 4 on the audience measurement company’s weekly list of the top streamed original content, a rarity for Apple TV+.

Major spoilers for "Severance" season 2 follow.
There's no question that "Severance" has been the biggest TV series of 2025 so far. The show's long-awaited sophomore season kicked off on February 18, improving on an already popular season 1 in pretty much every way. Each member of the main cast shows up with some great new material, the tangled storylines delve deeper into core sci-fi ideas, and an ever-fluid visual style has made "Severance" one of the most aesthetically striking series currently airing. But more to the point, the mysteries of "Severance" have launched it to the top of the zeitgeist, bringing a level of intrigue and online theory-crafting that evokes all-timer mystery box shows like "Lost."
Does the finale make good on all of that promise? For the most part, yes. As with season 1, "Severance" season 2 ends with an action-packed finale that brings answers to some of the show's biggest questions, while also setting up more major cliffhangers.

Warning: This post contains spoilers about Severance Season 2.
Severance, Apple TV+’s hit sci-fi thriller, ended its second season Thursday night with a tense finale that answered one of the show’s biggest questions — what exactly is Cold Harbor? — and found innie Mark S. choosing his autonomy over sacrificing himself for Mark Scout. Here’s what happened in the Severance Season 2 finale, “Cold Harbor.”
The truth about Cold Harbor
“Cold Harbor” picks up where “The After Hours” left off, with Mark S., Harmony Cobel (Patricia Arquette), and Devon Scout-Hale (Jenn Tullock) meeting in a severed room at the birthing center to discuss getting Gemma (Dichen Lachman) out of Lumon before the company kills her because her use to them is finished. The plan is for Mark S. to finish the Cold Harbor project file and rush down to the Testing Floor where Gemma is being held, where Mark will save her.

Severance Season 2 is wrapping up on Apple TV+, and Ben Stiller is addressing when viewers can expect the third installment.
Three years passed between the first and second seasons of Dan Erickson’s sci-fi psychological thriller. Producer Stiller recently revealed that fans will not have to wait that long for Season 3.
“No, no, the plan is not—definitely not,” Stiller said on the New Heights podcast after Travis Kelce asked if he was going to have to wait three years for the third season. “No, the plan is not, and hopefully, we’ll be announcing what the plan is very soon. That will not be that.”
Severance stars Adam Scott as Mark Scout, an employee at Lumon Industries who agrees to participate in a “severance” program in which his workplace memories are separated from his primary, external memories.

This article contains Spoilers for Severance Season 2, Episode 9, "The After Hours".
Severance Season 2's penultimate episode teased a climactic finale; "The After Hours" also had fans siding with Milchick before it ended. Tramell Tillman contemplates Milchick's turn and why the character has become iconic.
Tramell Tillman said Harmony Cobel's exit from Lumon was orchestrated, and that Seth Milchick somehow instigated it. "There was a little bit of treason that happened, right?" Tillman told Inverse. "Milchick ratted out Ms. Cobel. We don't have the clear story yet. We don't even see that resonate completely in Season 2. I really believe that there's an element of Milchick that's wrestling with what he did to Cobel. And now, you have this creepy child who's watching his every move. You see Milchick stewing in that; it reminds me of [Edgar Allan Poe's] The Tell-Tale Heart."
That pent-up frustration vented in Season 2, Episode 9. Severance eased up on Milchick's villain arc,...

After two long years of waiting, Severance Season 2 has finally arrived on Apple TV+, and fans are already deep-diving into every frame for clues. This mind-bending sci-fi thriller left us on a massive cliffhanger back in 2022, with Mark, Helly, Irving, and Dylan making some shocking discoveries about Lumon Industries. Now, the new season is here to (hopefully) answer all those burning questions while probably introducing a few more to keep us guessing.

For those who need a refresher, Severance is all about employees whose memories are split between work and personal life. Their “Innie” only knows the office, while their “Outie” has no idea what happens inside Lumon’s walls. It’s a wild concept that raises some serious ethical concerns, especially as the show digs deeper into the true purpose of the severed floor.

The Twilight Zone is one of the most brilliant and trippy series ever made. Created by Rod Serling, the CBS series is a virtual and psychologically thrilling trip into the unknown. The Twilight Zone premiered over six decades ago, and it still holds up very well as far as the stories and the visual experience go. Maybe that’s why the Jordan Peele reboot failed: it couldn’t capture the same magic as the Serling series did. So, if you loved the trippy stories, inventive settings, and compelling characters in The Twilight Zone, here are some similar shows you should check out next.

Ahead of Severance's second season finale on Friday, Gold Derby has broken down the show's Emmy potential in the top races for series and acting.
For its first season in 2022, Severance was nominated for 14 Emmys and won two craft awards, for main title design and music composition. The series ended up playing third fiddle to Succession Season 3 and Squid Game Season 1. While Succession is long gone, Squid Game is back this cycle for its second season, though the critical response was somewhat muted.
The four nominated Severance performers the last time around were Adam Scott as Mark Scout in lead actor, Patricia Arquette as Harmony Cobel in supporting actress, and John Turturro as Irving Bailiff and Christopher Walken as Burt Goodman in supporting actor. Severance was also nominated for director Ben Stiller and writer Dan Erickson. Flash-forward three years, and the Apple TV+ sci-fi show about office drones who separate...
