Nickolas was raised in London by a single mother, whose female friend was instrumental to his introduction to film. Approaching cinema through the female gaze gave him a different perspective to his childhood friends: while they fixated on how "badass" the men were and the similarities to their own fathers, Nickolas was more interested in what motivated the female characters.
An outsider with a keen interest in secrets he gives a voice to unacknowledged stories of the past. Nickolas first short film focused on a Jewish Nazi in WW2. His follow up explores a group of female gangsters.
