While there are plenty of original anime, the anime that tend to get the most attention are the adaptations of manga and other works. Any anime that’s an adaptation has the benefit of a built-in fanbase helping to prop it up, and more often than not, the popularity of the manga leads to their anime adaptations becoming some of the biggest anime a person can watch.
Anime adaptations tend to dominate the community, but unfortunately, that isn’t always the case. While many adaptations are fortunate enough to get the proper attention needed to make their stories shine, just as many end up falling short, and sure enough, there are plenty of anime adaptations with such terrible animation, direction, and overall handling of their source material that it’s often hard to justify watching them, at all. Gege Akutamis Jujutsu Kaisen rightfully stands as one of the biggest titles in the current shnen landscape, captivating readers with its hectic action plots, dark mysteries, and lovable characters. Set in a world where a secret society of sorcerers is tasked with protecting humanitys peace from curses monstrous beings born out of negative emotions Jjk has established itself as the quintessential modern-day shnen by combining classic premises with the novelty of execution.
Jjk sets itself apart through its uniqueness and fearlessness in breaking out of genre clichs by daring to omit plot armor and incorporate darker motifs into the story. However, much of the series still links it to other works, both within the shnen demographic and the dark fantasy genre, that share similar themes, story beats, and ideas. Plenty of different manga series, while not mimicking Jjk exactly, could offer similar excitement to the fans of Gege Akutamis modern classic.

Shonen anime heroes are as plentiful as they are similar. They are usually underdogs who come into great power and become the very best in their respective fields. However, some shonen heroes have a lot more depth to them than those with the traditional trope.
The most complex shonen heroes are more than just underdogs or characters with immense power. They have emotional trauma or complicated relationships with the people around them. They may even have dark pasts from which they are trying to escape. Some have even failed to be heroes in the past. Whatever the reason is, these shonen heroes are more than the sum of their parts.
