With Demi Moore getting a new dose of fame, it’s time for her role in one of Disney’s more underappreciated movies to get some respect!

If there’s one thing Hollywood loves, it’s a comeback story. 2022 was a notable example as Brendan Fraser, the one-time box office star of the late 1990s, had been quiet for a long time due to personal issues. Fraser made a big splash with his transformative role in the drama The Whale.

That same year featured the remarkable tale of Ke Huy Quan, a former child star of the 1980s who dropped out of the business because he couldn’t find good roles. He landed one in the wild action drama Everything Everywhere All at Once, which won seven Oscars, including Best Picture.

Thus, on Oscar Night 2023, Fraser and Quan were sharing photos with their respective Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor awards.

The Gardener (Le Jardinier), not to be confused with the Gary Daniels/Robert Bronzi film, reunites Jean-Claude Van Damme and David Charhon who directed him in The Last Mercenary. And like that film, it’s an action comedy, but with the comedy dialed up a bit higher, and the action a bit more on the brutal side.

This time out, The Muscles From Brussels plays Leo, a man who simply wants to tend to plants on the large estate owned by Serge Shuster Special Adviser to the President of France. Nobody seems quite sure how he ended up with the position, and they think he’s a bit odd, but he does a good job so they’ve let him stay on.

After starring in a number of lackluster VOD movies, action legend Jean-Claude Van Damme returns to action comedy—the combination of genres that has rejuvenated his recent phase of acting career—with The Gardener. Taking the role of the titular greenskeeper with a secret past, Van Damme delivers a brutal brand of justice through his fists and deadpan humor. It would have made for more entertaining fare if co-lead Michael Youn’s comedic flair had complemented him well instead of mostly comprising annoying caricatures, which goes as far as impersonating a Nazi officer. While the veteran action star looks to be in great shape for a man reaching his mid-60s, the majority of the action sequences involving him are badly shot, wasted by incorporating too many cuts and shaky cams. Rotten Tomatoes has updated its reviews of the film The Hunchback of Notre Dame to give the animated Disney classic a Certified Fresh approval rating from critics. This has resulted in the film earning a score of 80% on the website.

The score was tabulated after a slew of reviews from 1996 were officially added to the site, giving the film an updated score. Critics from the era were largely impressed by the movie with several giving The Hunchback of Notre Dame perfect scores. Much of the reviews were particularly complimentary of the movie's animation, with one critic (Jeffrey Westhoff of the Northwest Herald) calling it "Disney's most powerful animated film since Bambi," predicting that the film would "20 years from now... be considered an authentic masterpiece." Indeed, more than two decades later, the film is beloved by many fans of Disney movies, though a lot of its love was there from most critics at the very start.

Two decades ago, the Wicked movie could’ve looked very different.

In a joint conversation with Vanity Fair, Marc Platt, who produced the 2024 film, Wicked author Gregory Maguire and composer Stephen Schwartz recalled the first efforts in the late 1990s to turn the story into a feature film.

He detailed a world in which stars like Demi Moore, Nicole Kidman and more were interested in playing the beloved roles of Elphaba and Glinda, which eventually went to Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in this year’s adaptation of the musical.

Eva Mendes is set to release her debut children’s book.

Feiwel & Friends, an imprint of Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group, announced Thursday that the actress will release Desi, Mami, and the Never-Ending Worries on Sept. 17, 2024. The book will publish in both English and Spanish.

The picture book, illustrated by Abbey Bryant, centers on a young girl named Desi who is fearful of the monsters under her bed. However, her mother helps her get through the nighttime fears and the bedtime struggle.

Mendes found inspiration from raising her two daughters, Esmeralda and Amada, with partner Ryan Gosling.
