Chad Stahelski is a household name, and an esteemed one, especially in the action genre. He is the mastermind behind the stellar thriller film series, John Wick, and now he’s on board with Shinichiro Watanabe’s dream project, Lazarus. It is quite a sensation on the internet and elsewhere.
What makes the anime different is the team play that goes behind the scenes. Stahelski is no different to this, considering he lent his expertise in the action sequences, but it goes beyond that. His experience with Watanabe was so surreal and sublime that it made the trilogy feel empty.

He gave a solid reason for that, which seems valid on all grounds per se. It also brings out his aspirations as an artist and his admiration for the art itself. This realization itself is what makes the series an epitome of craftsmanship,...

The Story: A college kid (Brandon Lee) witnesses a gangland hit. Betrayed by witness protection, he’s recruited by a task force headed by a no-nonsense cop (Powers Boothe) as a pawn, but little do they know he’s more than able to handle himself against any of his foes.
The Players: Starring: Brandon Lee, Powers Boothe, Tzi Ma & Nick Mancuso. Directed by Dwight H. Little.
The History: The early nineties were the heyday of the martial arts movie star. Steven Seagal and Jean-Claude Van Damme were consistently churning out hits, so if they could become icons, why not a guy like Brandon Lee? He was movie star handsome, could move, was charismatic and could act. Oh yeah – he also happened to be the son of the greatest Kung-Fu movie star of all time, Bruce Lee.
“I wouldn’t want to refer to them as stepping stones. That seems to demean them.

Rust, the long-delayed Western film starring Alec Baldwin, is finally set for release after years of uncertainty caused by a tragic on-set accident. Many believed the project would either be permanently shelved or become lost media. The fatal incident occurred on October 21, 2021, during a rehearsal when Baldwin discharged a firearm containing a live round, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza. The tragedy led to widespread scrutiny of on-set firearm safety and raised concerns about how real weapons are handled in the film industry. Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the film’s armorer responsible for handling firearms on set, was later convicted of involuntary manslaughter. A jury found that she displayed reckless disregard for safety, resulting in her sentencing of 18 months in prison—the maximum penalty for the charge. The accident was compared to the 1993 tragedy on the set of The Crow, where actor Brandon Lee was fatally shot due to mishandled prop ammunition.

The Rookie might be all about cops, but when it comes to real guns? Hard pass. Despite being a hardcore police procedural, Nathan Fillion’s hit show made a bold move — banning live firearms on set. The decision wasn’t just for show; it came after a chilling wake-up call that rocked Hollywood.

With safety now the top priority, The Rookie drew a hard line, proving that intense action doesn’t need real bullets. So, what exactly pushed the show to make this game-changing rule?

Dubbed by some as “one of 2024’s most unnecessary remakes,” the new adaptation of The Crow has soared on the Starz streaming platform, dominating the chart to take the top spot several months after having its wings clipped at the box office.
The 1994 version of The Crow gained cult status not only for its haunting and dark story of love and death, but for the tragic circumstances surrounding star Brandon Lee’s untimely death. Fans bonded with the film’s blend of Gothic romance and vigilante action, and it is hard to argue that the atmosphere of the film was lightning in a bottle that could not be replicated in any subsequent sequels. Fast-forward three decades, and Hollywood made the unwelcome announcement that the film was getting a “reimagining” starring Bill Skarsgård.

Troubled indie Western Rust was finally unveiled at the Camerimage cinematography festival in Poland late last year with a somber world premiere.
But two months later, the Alec Baldwin film is yet to secure a domestic partner after its production was overshadowed by on-set tragedy when cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed after a gun held by star Baldwin during rehearsals fired a live round.
While there was internal discussion last year about other potential festival launches, none have been lined up and it would seem unlikely at this stage.
That shift came after the Rust world premiere triggered controversy, with some in the cinematography community criticizing it as insensitive. Hutchins’ mother distanced herself from the launch, claiming “there is still no justice for my daughter.” Others close to the film said the screening was a tribute to Hutchins, who had attended the festival multiple times, and that anything that enhances sales will benefit the family.

To say that fans were disappointed with the 2024 reimagining of The Crow would be an understatement. Directed by Rupert Sanders and starring Bill Skarsgård, the film was a critical and commercial flop, earning just $24 million at the box office against a budget of $50 million. Hoping to recoup some of their losses, Lionsgate made it available on VOD less than a month after its theatrical debut, but by then the word was already out about how cringe it was. While people may have been let down by this new version, you can wash the taste out of your mouth by streaming the original classic when it lands on its new streaming home on Jan. 1.

2024 might be the year of the film adaptation. While the year has seen numerous highs and lows, adaptations seem to be at the heart of the 2024 release calendar. While children's films sequels such as Moana 2 and Inside Out 2 have dominated the box office, so too have adaptations like It Ends With Us and Wicked. The abundance of adaptations over original content is often a criticism of the state of Hollywood right now, but the 2024 box office has shown that these films still do well commercially.
This year has also seen a number of comic book adaptations. Most notably, this includes Deadpool & Wolverine, a Marvel Comics adaptation that features the now-canonized titular MCU characters. Not all comic adaptations are created equally, however, as this year's Madame Web bombed at the box office and among critics. Pamela Anderson isn’t naming names, but she tells me that she’s heard from “a lot of great directors” following her awards buzzy work in “The Last Showgirl.”
“It’s exciting because I want to keep working,” Anderson said Tuesday at the Golden Globes First-Time Nominee Luncheon at the Montage in Beverly Hills.
However, she insists all the praise and attention isn’t going to her head. “I’m going to pretend that I belong here,” Anderson said. “It’s all so surreal. Sometimes I’ll wake up in the middle of the night and I’m like, ‘I’m a Golden Globes nominee – how did that happen?’”
She said she’s feeling more secure as awards season ramps up. “It’s getting better, but it’s still a little hard to walk into these rooms and and see people who you’ve admired for so long,” Anderson said.

Pamela Anderson has received a Golden Globe nomination for her starring performance in the indie film The Last Showgirl. This nomination represents a dramatic shift in how Hollywood perceives her, moving away from the stereotypes that have frequently defined her career.
The nomination follows years of deliberate career management by her son, Brandon Thomas Lee. He’s worked hard behind the scenes to change the industry’s opinion of his mother.
Gia Coppola’s “The Last Showgirl” was made in 18 days on a modest budget of slightly over $1 million. In the film, Anderson plays Shelly, a veteran Las Vegas dancer facing the abrupt shutdown of her long-running act. The story also follows her attempts to reunite with her estranged daughter, played by Billie Lourd. Critics have lauded Anderson’s performance, and industry figures such as Jamie Lee Curtis have publicly endorsed the project, joining primarily because of Anderson’s participation.

When fans learned of The Crow's 2024 re-imagining, many were skeptical. It did get stuck in developmental hell, with Jason Momoa's Crow never coming to fruition. However, Momoa's exit paved the way for Bill Skarsgård to take up the face paint in this latest adaptation of James O'Barr's 1989 comic book.
Despite the new movie's potential to attract a new generation of fans, it's hard to match (let alone surpass) the standard set by the 1994 original. The Crow, directed by Alex Proyas, remains one of the most popular movies that blends gothic horror with crime and suspense. Sadly, it was also impacted by the tragic death of its star, Brandon Lee.
Updated on December 3, 2024, by Robert Vaux: The failed 2024 reboot of The Crow has returned attention to the original, which remains the definitive version of James O'Barr's original graphic novel for reasons that have little to do with the tragic death of its star.

However, Eric — also known as The Crow — is given a chance at redemption by avenging Shelly’s death. In order to do so, he has to seek revenge against their killers, blurring the worlds between the living and the dead.

The recently aired second part of Cobra Kai season 6 ended with a shocking death that will shake up the show's last five episodes set to come out early next year.
The tension was even higher during the recent batch of episodes as it explored Miyagi-Do's journey in the Sekai Takai competition. Unfortunately, it all ended with a shocking twisted moment that the series had never done before.
Who Dies in Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 2 Finale?

Unfortunately, we recently lost an absolute legend with the passing of Tony Todd. His voice and presence are unmatched in the horror genre and has been a wonderful constant for over 30 years. Whenever an iconic actor passes, I think a great way to remember them is to look back on some of their greatest performances/movies. After all, this is their life’s work and clearly something they were very passionate about. But when it comes to Tony Todd, where do you even start?
Looking at his filmography can be overwhelming, given the sheer volume of films that the man starred in. One of the main traits of his roles is that he may hardly get any screen time in them, yet he manages to be the most intriguing character around. And while it’s not horror, I want to make sure to shout out his many wonderful TV appearances over the years,...

With The Crow's 2024 remake now released, few realize it's not the franchise's first resurrection. Considered to be a film that never needed a remake, some find the concept controversial, deeming it a classic in gothic comic book cinema. Immortalized by its legacy, The Crow's enduring love always ensures its inevitable return, whether in theaters or through other mediums. The first remake of The Crow presents a curious case, aiming to expand the mythology and retell Eric Draven's story. Faced with ambitious goals, high expectations, and various challenges, eagle-eyed fans of The Crow likely drew parallels to the most recent Hollywood movie reboot, questioning if these birds of a feather really do flock together.

The Shawshank Redemption has been named the best movie of 1994 in a Rotten Tomatoes fan poll. The critically acclaimed movie starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman is adapted from Stephen King's 1982 novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption. Despite positive reviews for The Shawshank Redemption, seven Academy Award nominations, and its powerful legacy, the movie did not perform well at the box office during its initial theatrical run.
Nevertheless, as per a Rotten Tomatoes fan poll, The Shawshank Redemption has been named the best movie of 1994. It defeated Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction in the finals and Disney's The Lion King in the semifinals. Forrest Gump was the other movie that made it to the final four before losing to Pulp Fiction. Other movies in the poll that The Shawshank Redemption won over include Jim Carrey's The Mask, Kevin Smith's Clerks, and Brandon Lee's The Crow.

Interest in WCW is seeing a huge resurgence, with The Rock's Seven Bucks Productions airing a full docuseries on "Who Killed WCW?" for Vice, and some interesting claims about WWE taking some of its most successful ideas from WCW in Mr. McMahon, the controversial Netflix documentary on Vince's life. Led by billionaire Ted Turner, the often-ruled promotion famously outperformed WWE in the ratings for 83 weeks before being eventually bought and owned by WWE.
In the subsequent years, programming would often point out how that went wrong, with the not-so-subtle suggestion that WCW's quality was rarely up to the standards set by WWE, before and after. However, this is not necessarily true. The quality of the in-ring work across WCW's lifespan includes some of the most overlooked matches in the history of professional wrestling, both within that 83-week glory period and across its entire existence. The 2024 adaptation of The Crow didnt perform as expected with critics and general audiences, but it could have been saved with one connection to Brandon Lees 1994 version. Almost 20 years after its last movie, The Crow franchise came back to life with a new adaptation of James OBarrs comic book series of the same name. Directed by Rupert Sanders, The Crow stars Bill Skarsgrd as Eric and FKA Twigs as Shelly, and though it kept the same concepts and basic premise of the comic books and Alex Proyas 1994 movie, it also made a lot of changes.
The Crow introduces viewers to Eric, who meets Shelly at a rehab center. Eric and Shelly fall in love and escape the center as Shelly is being pursued by dangerous people. Lionsgate has seen a run of bad box office luck: “Borderlands,” “The Crow,” “1992,” and the just-opened “The Killer’s Game” combined have only grossed $30 million among four new films opened in the past six weeks.
“Uglies” continues the recent string of Netflix original movie successes. From director McG, the YA novel adaptation about a society where standardized personal attractiveness is compulsory was an immediate #1 this weekend on the streamer’s top movie list.
In its Sunday spin on first weekend results, Lionsgate often says that, despite weak numbers, the company is in a position to end up making money — and due to financial positioning and post-theatrical platforms.

Every once in a while, that one single remake, reboot, or sequel entry of a successful, beloved movie gets released, which absolutely destroys the legacy of the original by becoming a failure of such proportions that it becomes hard to even comprehend what the thought process was behind coming up with something so ludicrous. The Crow (2024), starring Bill Skarsgård, a remake of the late Brandon Lee starring cult classic The Crow (1994), is such a movie, which is so bad we are having a tough time finding any silver lining whatsoever. The buzz surrounding the movie was rather negative from the very beginning, but nothing could have prepared us for the dumpster fire of a movie this one turned out to be. There is no sense of coherence in the plot, no effort put into making the characters likable, or even relatable, stylization gone down the drain, and the less we talk about the creative decisions,...

2024s The Crow wasnt the successful adaptation some were hoping for, and one of its most criticized elements is its ending, which Bill Skarsgrd had already shared he didnt like. 2024 is a big year for Bill Skarsgrd with different projects that will showcase his acting skills. The Crow remake, starring Bill Skarsgrd, fell short of the classic original film for many, and after a poor box office debut, it's already heading to digital platforms. Three weeks after it made its dismal theatrical debut, The Crow finds itself looking to attract a wider audience interested in the big-budget remake of the beloved 1994 film. If paying a premium price to view the maligned film in theaters feels unreasonable, perhaps viewers will be more inclined to check it out at home.

Art imitates life, a universal truth that reverberated in a most tragic sense in the creation of James O’Barr’s timeless gothic vigilante series, The Crow. The ex-marine writer created the Crow, a common man wronged by a cruel world who lost his own life and that of his beloved, resurrected as an avenging angel of darkness to exact vengeance upon those responsible for his agonizing past. The Crow was conceptualized as the writer’s own cathartic release to cope with his fiancée’s tragic demise. Admixed with shades of sorrow, guilt, and trauma, the violent, black-and-white world of Crow unraveled itself in the comic panels in 1989. The Crow quickly found its audience as with its pervading visual and metaphorical darkness, a broken protagonist, neo-gothic settings, and morbid theme—it had an appeal of its own that readers in the early 90s cherished with their heart. A timeless classic in its own right,...

The '90s saw the mainstream rise of martial artist actors like Jet Li and Jackie Chan, resulting in some of the best kung fu films to be released within the decade. The introduction of such stars and films brought an increased interest in the genre and influenced a variety of American films, including The Matrix. As fans of Hong Kong cinema themselves, The Wachowskis asked famous martial arts director Yuen Woo-Ping to help with their film's fight choreography.
Chan himself has been quite an influence on kung fu films. Starting in the late '70s, Chan was just one of the actors to lead kung fu comedies, which revived interest in the genre within the following decades. Chan and Li are just a few who started working in Hong Kong cinema before moving to American films after their breakthrough. As a result, the best kung fu films the decade...

The latest film adaptation of the graphic novel “The Crow” is struggling financially in theaters. Directed by Rupert Sanders and starring Bill Skarsgård, the $50 million production has grossed only $18.5 million worldwide over its first two weeks.
This performance fails to meet initial projections of $6-9 million for its opening weekend. Domestic earnings placed it in eighth place and far below the original 1994 film starring Brandon Lee. That version debuted with $11.7 million, equivalent to $35.5 million today, on its way to $94 million globally.
Since then, returns for “The Crow” have dropped sharply. The film averaged just $59 per theater in its second week, suggesting difficulties surpassing even the franchise’s previous lowest earnings. That came from 1996’s “City of Angels,” which made $25.3 million total.
Critical reviews for the remake have been mostly negative at 23% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, audience scores remain relatively positive at 64%. This gap implies dedicated fans may still enjoy the film on streaming.
