The grandeur of the One Piece narrative by Eiichiro Oda is something that has kept me hooked on the series since it initially started. From impressive character developments to brilliant plot twists, the One Piece storyline has it all, but one of the few complaints that I have with the series is that a lot of the developments within the series happen behind the scenes.
One of the biggest examples of this is all the major battles that have taken place in the story. From the God Valley Incident to Akainu vs Aokiji, Oda has to keep these thrilling action sequences out of the One Piece narrative, and he has a valid reason behind it. He once revealed that he has to pack most of the story into 17 pages, which results in a lot of the elements being left out.

Mel Novak, the great movie villain known for his slick turns as the sniper Stick in Bruce Lee’s Game of Death, the gangster Blue Eyes in Jim Kelly’s Black Belt Jones and the informant Tony Montoya in Chuck Norris’ An Eye for an Eye, has died. He was 90.
Novak died Wednesday of natural causes at a hospice facility in Granada Hills, his daughter Nikol Conant told The Hollywood Reporter.
In a career that spanned seven decades, the charismatic Novak did lots of his own stunts, as in The Ultimate Warrior (1975), starring Yul Brynner and Max von Sydow. That was one of the four films he made with Enter the Dragon director Robert Clouse.
In his death scene for that post-apocalyptic adventure, “They covered me with peanut butter and sunflower seeds and then put 40 live rats on me,” Novak recalled in a 2018 interview. “I told their trainer, ‘If one of them bites me,...

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was a sensation when it was released back in the year 2000. No one expected Ang Lee’s martial arts epic to make over $100 million in the United States. The director, at the time, was best known for independent dramas like The Ice Storm. His taking on a kung-fu-filled fantasy epic seemed like a stretch, and when people learned it would be shot in Mandarin, they naturally assumed it would maybe be a nice art-house hit but not much more. Instead, the film played to boffo box office both internationally and domestically, leading to an unexpected revival for the wuxia genre, paving the way for the successful domestic release of Zhang Yimou’s Hero and more. Variety now reports that the high-flying martial arts drama will hit the small screen in a new TV series that’s being developed at Amazon for Prime Video.

Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece is an absolute masterpiece that has been ruling the anime and manga industry for almost 30 years. While the anime involves third-party elements like animation studios and directors, the manga gets the first-hand essence of the mangaka and thus brings out the true spirit of what he trying to portray through the One Piece story.
Oda’s manga panels and his drawings are among the best in the business and have been appreciated on multiple fronts. But the last few artworks that Oda has illustrated in the One Piece manga might not have been his best work and I have come across a few people who just like me have found some inconsistencies in his drawings within the story.

However, the factors that may have essentially affected his drawing in One Piece make me unsure about my criticism of it.

When we think about top-tier fights in Shonen, Naruto being on the list is no overstatement. This is because of the impeccable and flawless battle choreography. There’s Naruto versus Sasuke, and then there’s Kakashi versus Obito; we asked for it, and Pierrot delivered it.
The moves, be they kicks and punches, are perfected to a T. We have to salute the animators behind this fluidity in motion and maneuvers. But there is an underrated fight that deserves a special mention for using a unique combat style.

Most specifically, the animator used Wing Chun in one of the fight scenes, which added an oomph factor to it. The scene is significant in most aspects as it racks up action elements, but also in the sense that it highlights Bruce Lee’s legacy and impact. How so? Let’s explore this.

Among the heavy hitters of One Piece, the two names that have always clashed within the fanbase are Kaido and Whitebeard. One Piece fans have always tried to figure out who among the former Emperors of the Sea was the strongest character, as both of them had their specific titles that described their power levels within the One Piece universe.
Kaido was the strongest creature in the world, but Whitebeard was the strongest man in the world, which became the reason for the debate. And almost every time, Whitebeard won the debate because of his next-level strength in his prime. However, the reason behind Kaido being weaker than Whitebeard in One Piece was because of the difference in their Haki levels.

The Lone Ranger isn't terrible popular among newer generations -- the spectacular failure of the 2013 "Lone Ranger" feature film cemented that notion -- but for many Baby Boomers, the character is a vital pop culture figure. For those who may need a refresher, The Lone Ranger is a masked vigilante who toured the Old West with his Indigenous American compatriot Tonto, writing wrongs on a freelance basis. He was previously a Texas Ranger (hence his moniker), rode a horse named Silver, and dispatched bad guys with specially made silver bullets.
The Lone Ranger first appeared as the protagonist of a 1933 radio serial co-created by Fran Striker and George W. Trendle, which broadcasted on Wxyz out of Detroit, Michigan. This radio show was popular enough to warrant a "Lone Ranger" TV series, which is what really thrust the titular character into the pop culture zeitgeist as it ran for 221 episodes over nine years.

Our story kicks off with Special Agent Andrew Kang (D.Y. Sao), a U.S.-based operative with a serious love for solving problems with his fists or more accurately, his entire arsenal of martial arts skills. After a drug bust in Los Angeles uncovers a shipment laced with tragedy (five dead bodies stashed among the contraband), Kang worms his way into an undercover mission in Bangkok. His task? Impersonate a captured cartel operative, Benz Wu (Brian Le), and dismantle a ruthless Thai crime syndicate from the inside. The plot is straightforward in fact it’s almost skeletal, but that’s by design and really not an issue for me. The script knows its role: it’s a bullet point checklist that accommodates the real spectacle, the fights and it executes that role with flawless precision.

Yes, Jay Ellis wanted you to think, “Oh shit, that dude’s crazy,” when you see his character in Freaky Tales.
The 43-year-old actor-producer, best known for his roles in Insecure, The Game and Top Gun: Maverick, was ready for a new adventure when he signed onto the Anna Boden- and Ryan Fleck-directed film, which sees him portray former NBA player Eric “Sleepy” Floyd and follows four interconnected stories set in 1987 Oakland, California.
“I wanted a badass,” Ellis tells The Hollywood Reporter of the role. “I wanted a character that people are like, ‘Oh shit, that dude’s crazy.’ I wanted a dude that you’d be like, ‘If we in a street fight, I want him. I want that guy with me,’ and that’s what I kind of set out to prepare.”

It can’t be denied that as far as martial arts movies go, the best ones come from Asia, particularly Hong Kong during their action heyday, which was arguably the 70s, 80s and first half of the ’90s. It’s tough to compete with the likes of the Shaw Brothers and the drunken master known as Jackie Chan. That said, martial arts movies were also making a foothold in the States decades ago, thanks mainly to Bruce Lee-mania following the release of Enter the Dragon. Before that movie, very few actors in Hollywood seemed like they were credible martial artists, except maybe James Coburn, a student of Lee’s, who pulled off some pretty good-looking moves in the otherwise silly Our Man Flint movies. Steve McQueen also had training but didn’t use martial arts on screen. Up to then, though, the most notable uses of martial arts in movies usually revolved around Judo,...

Fans can only hope to see Laurence Fishburne in the upcoming The Matrix sequel, but the actor weighed in on that prospect. He said he was all-in to reprise Morpheus in The Matrix Resurrections, but the studio "didn't respond well" when he expressed interest.
The odds are stacked against Laurence Fishburne returning in The Matrix 5. "It depends on the circumstances, who was involved, how well the script has been written, if they offer me [a part]," he told The View. Fishburne set clear-cut expectations, hinting he's still open to the prospect; he said he also wanted in on The Matrix Resurrections but was rejected. "I offered my services to the fourth Matrix, and they didn't respond well to that," he asserted. "It's not like I didn't say, 'I'd like to offer my services.' I did. For whatever reason, that didn't happen. But that's the truth. We'll see."

The Story: A college kid (Brandon Lee) witnesses a gangland hit. Betrayed by witness protection, he’s recruited by a task force headed by a no-nonsense cop (Powers Boothe) as a pawn, but little do they know he’s more than able to handle himself against any of his foes.
The Players: Starring: Brandon Lee, Powers Boothe, Tzi Ma & Nick Mancuso. Directed by Dwight H. Little.
The History: The early nineties were the heyday of the martial arts movie star. Steven Seagal and Jean-Claude Van Damme were consistently churning out hits, so if they could become icons, why not a guy like Brandon Lee? He was movie star handsome, could move, was charismatic and could act. Oh yeah – he also happened to be the son of the greatest Kung-Fu movie star of all time, Bruce Lee.
“I wouldn’t want to refer to them as stepping stones. That seems to demean them.

Donnie Yen is returning to the world of “John Wick,” this time with some additional responsibilities.
The martial arts legend will star as Caine, the blind assassin from “John Wick: Chapter 4,” in a new spinoff film for Lionsgate. Yen will also direct the movie, which will begin production in Hong Kong later this year. The announcement was made as part of Lionsgate’s CinemaCon presentation.
Like all other installments in the ever-growing “John Wick” franchise, the Caine movie will be produced by Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee through their Thunder Road banner and by series director Chad Stahelski, who produces through his 87Eleven Entertainment production company. Yen will also serve as an executive producer.
The movie’s logline is being kept under wraps, probably in a locked drawer at the Continental.
Mattson Tomlin has also joined the project to write the film; a previous draft was written by Robert Askins.

It can’t be denied that in the eighties and nineties, the action movies coming out of Hong Kong revolutionized the industry. Marrying the kinetic style of seventies grid house martial arts epics with the technological innovations and kinetic energy of the best American action movies of the era, directors like John Woo, Tsui Hark and Ringo Lam, and stars like Jackie Chan and Chow Yun-Fat made a huge mark internationally. In the mid-nineties, and in the face of Hong Kong’s 1997 handover to China, many of the biggest names from the scene found their way to America, and outside of Jackie Chan and John Woo, arguably the most successful transition was made by martial arts superstar Jet Li.

Sammo Hung has seen it all. From battling Bruce Lee on screen in “Enter the Dragon” (1973) to bossing Donnie Yen behind the camera as the action director of “Ip Man” (2008), the legendary martial artist now wields influence as jury president of this year’s Asian Film Awards. The man who helped define Hong Kong action cinema for generations is now evaluating its future.
The 73-year-old action star, whose career spans over five decades, has transitioned seamlessly between acting, directing, and producing, crafting some of the most influential martial arts films in cinema history. When asked about the evolution of martial arts choreography from the classic Golden Harvest days to today’s spectacles, Hung remains philosophical. “I think there’s not much difference. It always evolves with time and evolves with trends,” Hung tells Variety.
Hung’s collaborations with Jackie Chan and Yuen Biao have produced countless iconic moments in action cinema.

Before his 2021 feature film debut, Shang-Chi was a Marvel superhero that most people had never heard of. Modeled after Bruce Lee, he's a master of weapon-based Kung Fu and the greatest martial artist within Marvel, capable of holding his own against superhuman opponents. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the 25th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), brought this unique superhero to mainstream audiences.
Here, Shang-Chi is forced to confront his past after his father's terrorist organization draws him into a search for a mythical village. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was a critical and commercial success. But after watching the film, some viewers were left wondering the same question: did the MCU just sneak Pokémon into its movie?

Even though it has been many years since Bruce Lee's far-too-young tragic death, he continues to intrigue and mystify fans of his legendary work. As a martial artist, actor, and philosopher, Lee used his skill, intellect, and charisma to craft a career that, while relatively short, left its mark. Though they have their roots in Chinese cinema, kung fu movies have become iconic and beloved the world over. From gravity-defying stunts to high-flying kicks, these films have captivated audiences for decades with their mesmerizing style. Some of the best kung fu movies were also responsible for turning now well-known screen legends into household names, such as Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee.
The kung fu film genre gained prominence in the early '70s following the waning popularity of the wuxia films, characterized by their supernatural tropes of Chinese myths and legends. As more hard-hitting kung fu action reached the international shores, the martial arts subgenre brought a cultural revolution to cinematic history. Several of these films came to be adored across the globe, but only the best kung fu movies, like Enter the Dragon, have truly withstood the test of time.

As Indian cinema continues to gain recognition worldwide, it’s still hard to explain the hold it has on those of us who grew up with it.
The intrepid cinephile can always do their research; watch the latest buzzy international feature, check out popular films that are streaming, even judge a book by its cover (a movie by its hit songs). But there’s something at the core of Hindi films especially that is deeply entrenched in culture. Usually I explain it by describing the theater where I watched every new Hindi film from 2005-2009: a suburban Michigan multiplex whose concession counter was flanked by two sacred symbols — a statue of the Hindu god Ganesh, and a framed photo of actor Shah Rukh Khan.
You need to understand that, at least conceptually, to appreciate something like “Superboys of Malegaon,” the true story of film fanatics in the eponymous village...

What Will Happen To Eddie?
During the midseason finale, Eddie (Ryan Guzman) expressed an interest in moving to Texas to be with his son. In a new interview with Forbes, Guzman shared his thoughts on Eddie’s storyline and whether it would come to an end. While he loves playing the character, he’s open to Eddie’s journey, wherever it leads him.
“I love the character so much, and it’s been a pleasure playing the character for so long that I could see myself playing for a bit longer,” Guzman exclaimed. “However, if I woke up tomorrow and the character was no longer available to play, I would feel solid in the fact that I did my due diligence with him.

Captain America: Brave New World (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Marvel Cinematic Universe’s latest installment, Captain America: Brave New World, featuring Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson and the legendary Harison Ford as Red Hulk, has faced a barrage of polarized reviews. At the same time, critics have acknowledged Wilson and Ford’s performances as the high-point of the movie, as well as its screenplay and direction drawing questions.
The superhero cum conspiracy theory film’s review embargo was lifted after long-standing speculation on Wednesday, thanks to early releases in several overseas markets. However, critics there were far from kind. The movie currently holds a 51% “rotten” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with an average score of 5.6/10, after more than 130 reviews were in.
At one instant, Captain America: Brave New World’s Rotten Tomatoes score sank as low as 46%, tying Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania as the worst-rated MCU film to date. It then...

When it comes to naming films that are the golden standard of martial arts, none nearly comes close to Enter the Dragon. The American-Hong Kong co-production rocked the world in 1973 with its bold, flashy, espionage storyline paired with the legendary Bruce Lee's jaw-dropping action choreography. The iconic kung fu movie, one of the greatest of all time, left a profound impact on cinema and paved the way for another "tournament-style" martial arts flick five years later.

Did Kristen Stewart cheat on Robert Pattinson? (Photo Credit – Facebook)
This was until 2012, when paparazzi photos of Kristen Stewart kissing Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders changed everything.
Stewart finally addressed the scandal while speaking on The Howard Stern Show in November 2019, admitting she never fully opened up about her relationship with Pattinson because it was “so heavily consumed” by the public. “We were together for years, that was my first [love]. I was super in love with my high school boyfriend. Super f**king in love with him, but me and Rob were a little older and it was just ‘gu gung.’ He’s the best.”
When asked if she would have married Pattinson, she admitted the thought had crossed her mind. “I don’t know. I wanted to … yeah, no, I’m not a super-duper traditionalist, but at the same time, every relationship I’ve ever been in,...

Did Mark Ruffalo spoil Avengers: Infinity War? (Photo Credit – Facebook)
While chatting with Don Cheadle on Good Morning America at the D23 Expo, he casually dropped, “In this next one, ha — everybody dies!” He tried to backpedal mid-sentence, attempting to say “half” instead. But the damage was done.
Cheadle’s reaction was pure panic. A mix of shock, disbelief, and silent pleading that Marvel’s snipers weren’t already locking in on them. His face alone screamed, Dude, what have you done? But Ruffalo just sat there, realizing in real time that he may have just spoiled 10 years of Marvel storytelling in under five seconds.
At the time, fans weren’t sure if this was a legit spoiler or a playful misdirection. Marvel actors were trained to dodge questions like they were in The Matrix. Plus, Tom Holland had already earned a reputation as Marvel’s resident spoiler machine. Maybe Ruffalo was just messing around,...

Does Leonardo DiCaprio regret missing out on this role due to Titanic? (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Instead of sketching Kate Winslet like one of his French girls, Leonardo DiCaprio could’ve been rocking gold chains and questionable dance moves as Dirk Diggler in Boogie Nights. And if you ask him? He kinda wishes he had.
“My biggest regret is Boogie Nights,” DiCaprio admitted. That’s a wild thing to say about the movie that made him Hollywood’s golden boy. But in 1997, DiCaprio had a choice: Cameron’s unsinkable romance or Anderson’s deep dive into ‘70s debauchery. He picked Titanic. Wahlberg took Boogie Nights. The rest is history.
DiCaprio was already Hollywood’s golden ticket — an Oscar nominee for What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and fresh off Romeo + Juliet. Then Titanic happened, turning him into a full-blown heartthrob, whether he liked it or not. Meanwhile, Wahlberg was strutting through Boogie Nights,...

Did Drake happen to ignore Kim Kardashian? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Drake’s It’s All a Blur tour had been drawing big names, and on August 13, Kardashian showed up at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. But her presence brought up old drama. Kanye West spent years accusing her of an affair with Drake. She always denied it, but the rumor never quite died.
“He was the one that started a rumor that said I was hooking up with Drake, having an affair,” Kardashian told Kris Jenner on The Kardashians. “Our whole marriage he accused me of that publicly.”
Back in 2018, fans thought Drake’s hit In My Feelings was dropping hints about Kardashian. The lyrics included “Kiki, do you love me?”—and since Kiki happens to be one of her nicknames, people ran with the theory. But Kardashian shut it down fast. “Never happened,” she wrote on Instagram. “End of story.

Why Did Bruce Lee’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Fight Scene Spark An Outrage? (Photo Credit – Prime Video)
Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood gave fans plenty to discuss, but one scene nearly derailed the conversation. The flashback fight between Brad Pitt’s stuntman Cliff Booth and Bruce Lee, played by Mike Moh, stirred major controversy. According to HuffPost, an early version of the scene would have humiliated Lee even further, showing him losing the fight outright.
The film became Tarantino’s biggest opening weekend hit and took liberties with Hollywood history. But while real-life figures like Sharon Tate and Steve McQueen got respectful portrayals, Lee – one of the most influential martial artists ever – was turned into a “bloviating a**,” as some critics put it. In the scene, Lee bragged that he could “cripple” Muhammad Ali, prompting Booth to mock him. The two squared off,...

In the mid-2000s, you could be forgiven for thinking action films had gotten a little stale. The genre tends to go in waves; whenever something hits in a big way, you get derivative, increasingly stale copies. Think about all the Die Hard rip-offs or the way every movie tried to copy The Matrix with bullet time and wire-work post-1999. Heck, we’re experiencing it right now with superhero movies and John Wick clones. Whenever this happens, it’s more-or-less left to international cinema to come along and shake us up with something different, done far outside the mainstream, to revitalize the genre. That happened in 2004, when a small movie from France, District 13, introduced Parkour to mainstream audiences.
So, what’s Parkour? Think of it as free running in an urban setting mixed with acrobatics and martial arts. It was founded by the star of District 13, David Belle, a Parisian...

Quentin Tarantino is arguably one of the best directors of his generation, with his signature style of combining gritty violence with humor proving to be successful time and again. While the filmmaker has a dedicated fanbase and critical acclaim to back him, detractors of his work, especially his generation of filmmakers do exist.

During an interview, Tarantino was asked about some of the common criticisms faced by his generation of filmmakers. In the land of cinema, stars have been born time and again with a bit of luck and a hoard of talent. But legends are harder to come by. Icons like Marlon Brando and Daniel Day-Lewis left their indelible mark on Hollywood, but no one has embodied an identity as incredible and extraordinary as Jackie Chan.

The Hong Kong action legend carved out a career from scratch with his incredulous slapstick routine, on-screen comedic timing, and exacting martial arts stunts. However, his legendary reputation, fame, wealth, and renown have not helped his image and relationships beyond the frames of cinema – as was later made evident based on the headlines about his tumultuous private life.

Ang Lee may be taking some time getting his next movie off the ground as his Bruce Lee biopic aims to finally start production this year, but first, one of his early classics is getting a modern update. The latest from Driveways and Fire Island director Andrew Ahn is The Wedding Banquet, which brings together Lily Gladstone, Bowen Yang, Kelly Marie Tran, Joan Chen, Han Gi-chan, and Youn Yuh-jung, with a script co-written with James Schamus, who co-wrote and produced the original 1993 rom-com. Following its Sundance premiere and ahead of Bleecker Street’s spring release on April 18, the first trailer has now arrived.
Here’s the synopsis: “From Director Andrew Ahn comes a joyful comedy of errors about a chosen family navigating the disasters and delights of family expectations, queerness, and cultural identity. Angela and her partner Lee have been unlucky with their IVF treatments, but can’t afford to pay for another round.

Jujutsu Kaisen might leave you with mixed feelings about the overall story that Gege Akutami told, but the one undeniably brilliant aspect was the action. The thrill of the fight and the smooth choreography kept us on our toes. In a world of sorcery, it relied on combat quite a lot.
One interesting fight involved the Strongest Sorcerer, Gojo Satoru, in close combat with Miguel Oduol. Formerly as a commander to Suguru Geto, he was loyal enough to go against the strongest to help his vision. That obviously didn’t end well for him but it landed him a different job.

What was curious about this fight wasn’t that Miguel fought Gojo on equal footing (almost) or that the strongest sorcerer went all out in a close combat situation. Gojo’s moves in Jujutsu Kaisen 0 perfectly mirrored a scene from a martial arts movie.
