In today’s TV news roundup, Marvel TV and Hulu announced the cast of its upcoming animated series, “Marvel’s Modok” and Netflix set the premiere date for “Gentefied.”

Marvel TV and Hulu revealed that Patton Oswalt, Aimee Garcia, Ben Schwartz, Melissa Fumero, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Beck Bennet, Jon Daly and Sam Richardson are joining “Marvel’s Modok.” The animated series is based on the Marvel comic book of the same name and signals Marvel’s first endeavor into animated comedy geared towards adults. After being ousted from both his evil organization and his family, super villain M.O.D.O.K (Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing) must reinvent himself if he ever wants the chance to win back the things in his life that are most important. Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K” is slated for debut in 2020.

Altered Carbon Season 2 stars Anthony Mackie as Takeshi Kovacs, Renée Elise Goldsberry as Quellcrist Falconer, Chris Conner as Poe, Dina Shihabi as Dig 301, Simone Missick as Trepp, Torben Liebrecht as Colonel Carrera, and James Saito as Tanaseda Hideki, and Lela Loren as Danica Harlan.

Altered Carbon is based on the groundbreaking cyberpunk novel by Richard K. Morgan. The world of Altered Carbon takes place over 300 years in the future.

Netflix may have disappointed Latinx viewers when it canceled the beloved “One Day at a Time,” but the streamer is hoping the dynamic new series “Gentefied” will help mitigate the pain. The brand new series, which is set in the rapidly gentrifying East Los Angeles neighborhood of Boyle Heights, began as a web series before making its way to Netflix. Written by first generation Chicano writers Marvin Lemus and Linda Yvette Chavez, “Gentefied” is the latest TV show to develop from a web series, which made waves when it premiered at Sundance in 2017.

Netflix dropped the trailer for its upcoming 10-episode dramatic comedy series “Gentefied” on Tuesday, showing three Mexican American cousins trying to save their family’s taco shop in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles.

The series, which premieres Feb. 21, is produced by “Ugly Betty” star America Ferrera and “That ’70s Show” star Wilmer Valderrama, both of whom will also guest star. Ferrera also directs two episodes along with co-creator Marvin Lemus, Marta Cunningham, Agora Guerra and Andrew Ahn.

“Gentefied” was created by two first-generation Chicano writers, Lemus and Linda Yvette Chávez, and was adapted from their 2017 Sundance film of the same name.

Barcelona-based studio Filmax has acquired international sales rights to José Luis Garci’s “The Crack: Inception,” the third part of a film noir trilogy whose first two installments represent for many the Spanish director’s finest achievement.

Introducing the new film to buyers at Toronto, Filmax will also distribute it in Spain, opening the crime thriller on Oct. 11.

Exclusive: Key Spanish seller Filmax has taken international rights to comedy I Can Quit Whenever I Want (Lo Dejo Cuando Quiera) from local giant Telecinco Cinema, producers of the successful Spanish reboot of Perfect Strangers, The Impossible and The Orphanage, and Mod Producciones, producers of The Tribe and The Summit.

The anticipated Spanish-language film is a remake of hit Italian crime-comedy Smetto Quando Voglio, about three college professors, recently unemployed due to the economic crisis, who develop a multi-vitamin that allows them to party all night long without side effects. They launch themselves into the world of nightclubs and shady dealings, hoping to find a market for their new wonder drug.
