Chief Detective 1958 is a Korean detective series created by Park Jae-beom. The Mbc TV K-drama serves as a prequel series to the 1971 Korean series Chief Inspector with the new series being set in the 1950s to 1960s, 10 years before the original series events take place. Chief Detective 1958 follows the story of Detective Park Yeong-han, an ace when it comes to catching petty criminals but he begins to feel frustrated with the corrupt system of the police and decides to do something about it.
Chief Detective 1958 has hit the ground running with a charming cast and an intense story that easily hooks the new audience while paying homage to the original series. The first few episodes of the K-drama set up a story that could take us to some wild places and tell us the journey of Park Yeong-han becoming the man he was in the original series.

The elderly have been an interesting talking point for Asian cinema this year. Chie Hayakawa’s “Plan 75” surprised Cannes Film Festival with a bleak and shocking vision to solve the problem of Japan’s rapidly ageing population. Director Lee Soon-sung takes a much brighter and cheerful approach to the subject in “My Perfect Roommate”, his debut feature.
Geum-boon is a 70-year-old lady who has always lived alone, with no family to call her own. Ji-woong is a university student who is a regular part-timer, doing any job he can to make and save money. As part of the government’s Saving Rent Project with Elderly Living Alone Programme, the two find themselves having to live together, which is an adjustment for both. Geum-boon suddenly finds herself having to adapt to having someone else in her domicile. She isn’t the easiest person to live with, a grumpy old lady who...
