Series Mania, one of Europe’s biggest and most prestigious TV festivals, has pushed back its 2021 edition by two months, setting new dates of May 28 to June 5.

Remaining in Lille, northern France, the event’s industry centerpiece, the Series Mania Forum, will be held at the Lille Grand Palais over June 1-3.

Series Mania was originally slated to run over March 19-27 next year. The Lille Dialogues, one of the Forum’s most anticipated events, joining political decision-makers and leading industry executives, will take place on June 1. Series Mania Digital, the online platform launched by the festival in March, will serve to complement the live events, “especially for those who may still not be able to travel,” Series Mania announced Thursday.

The announcement was made by Rodolphe Belmer, president of Series Mania, and Laurence Herszberg, its founder and general director.

Lille’s Series Mania International Festival was one of the first major audiovisual industry events forced to go completely online in March as Covid-19 spread across Europe. Now, it is once again at the forefront of festival innovation as one of the first to implement long-term, digital initiatives inspired by its 2020 online experience.

Dates were also announced for the in-person 2021 edition of the festival which will run March 19-27, with the Series Mania Forum to be held in Lille’s Grand Palais March 23-25.

Annecy, France — Still flush from a vibrant inaugural edition, the organizers of the European Animation Awards – or Emile Awards, as they are also known – are looking to build for their second edition, adding new categories, nominated titles, panels and presentations.

In another sign of growth, the Emile Awards’ board is in discussions to add a second day to the prizes with events taking place on the afternoon and evening of Friday, Dec. 7.

“Launched with great success in 2017, our brain child has grown up with prodigious speed,” commented Emile Awards president Peter Lord.

News of fast-track growth plans at the European Animation Awards comes as its members have elected a new board and executive, in place for 2018-20.

The number of short list nominations will increase from three to five in order to showcase a larger diversity in submissions for the final vote.

First edition of relocated, restructured event to take place in new home April 20-28.

Series Mania, France’s respected festival and co-financing event devoted to TV drama series, will relocate from Paris to the northern French city of Lille for its next edition in 2108, co-creator Laurence Herszberg announced on Thursday.

Herszberg launched Series Mania in 2009 as director general of the Forum des Images cinema centre in Paris in collaboration with her colleague Fréderic Lavigne.

As part of the move to Lille, Herszberg will be stepping down from her Forum position to take the helm of the event in its new location.

Lavigne will continue in his role as artistic director of Series Mania as will Francesco Capurro as head of the co-production forum co-financing event and Jeff Bledsoe, as head of production.

The move is part of a state-backed initiative to set up a Cannes Film Festival-style event dedicated to television series in France.
