If The AgencySeason 1 was a fraught, anxiety-inducing experience, brace yourself for an even tenser Season 2. Michael Fassbender stars in and executive produces the Showtime spy thriller show, and he recently appeared on a Deadline panel where he discussed the much-anticipated second season. The show improves on its first season as the spy world becomes even more secretive and the stakes are upped. "It just doesn’t let up in Season 2. The walls just keep coming in, and the vice grip keeps getting tightened," the actor said. "That tension and that jeopardy just heightens all the way through without any let up in the second season," he added, teasing a never-wracking second season. The show was already renewed for a new season that is currently in production.

The four stars of The Agency — Michael Fassbender, Richard Gere, Jeffrey Wright and Jodie Turner-Smith — were hesitant to spoil anything, just like their characters keep secrets and maintain their covers. As an executive producer, Fassbender had the authority to tease the upcoming second season.
“It just doesn’t let up in Season 2,” he said. “The walls just keep coming in, and the vice grip keeps getting tightened. That tension and that jeopardy just heightens all the way through without any let up in the second season.”
In the Paramount+ with Showtime series based on Le Bureau des Legendes, Fassbender plays Martian, a spy called back from his undercover assignment. That means the end of his marriage to Sami Zahir (Turner-Smith), who shows back up in his life. Gere plays Bosko, the superior to the agency characters, and Wright plays Henry Ogletree.

J.J. Abrams’ Max period crime thriller “Duster,” AMC Networks’ “The Walking Dead: Dead City,” Season 2 and Paramount+ with Showtime’s “The Agency” will bow at this year’s Canneseries whose 2025 lineup belies naysayers who argued, without a parallel MipTV and the buyers it brought to Cannes, the French TV festival would fail to draw series or celebs of weight.
“Dead City” is a world premiere, “Duster” looks like one too – it’s slated to be made available on Max on May 15. Starring Michael Fassbender, “The Agency” bowed on Paramount+ on Nov. 29, but not in France where it’s hugely awaited as a U.S. makeover of milestone French spy thriller “The Bureau.”
Among stars expected to walk the Festival’s pink carpet are main jury president Norman Reedus, absolute star of “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.”
“Bridgerton’s” Nicola Coughlan, a Konbini Award recipient, will deliver a masterclass on April 28.

The Taliban’s sweep to power in Afghanistan in 2021 serves as the backdrop to “Kabul,” one of France’s most ambitious international thriller dramas to date.
The six-part geopolitical show, which is world premiering today at Series Mania in Lille, emerged from the first-hand experience of producer Fabienne Servan-Schreiber who played a direct role in the chaotic evacuation efforts.
While vacationing in Greece with her son (and fellow producer) Matthias Weber, Servan-Schreiber heard of the situation in Kabul and got fully involved in efforts to rescue multiple families of Afghan artists and doctors.
Speaking to Variety along with Weber on the eve of “Kabul”‘s presentation at Series Mania, Servan-Schreiber says she was initially contacted by Jean-Michel Frodon, a film historian and journalist, who was looking for help to raise funds to buy plane tickets for a group of Afghan artists.

Steven Soderbergh’s spy comedy sends two married agents after a mole, who might turn out to be one of them
The months and years drag on with no new James Bond, no clear indication of how he is to be repurposed as IP. Into this vacuum has rushed a new generation of spy stories on streaming television: action-intelligence office procedurals such as Black Doves, The Day of the Jackal, Slow Horses and indeed The Agency, starring Michael Fassbender, remade from the French show Le Bureau Des Légendes. These are secret agent dramas that give us the violence and the tech, juxtaposing suspected treason and infidelity in the traditional way, but with a new kind of workaday realist sexiness, and more elaborately about showing up for work: much emphasis on ID badges of various security-clearance levels that beep on card readers and can be worn round your neck on lanyards.

Following Michael Fassbenderin the shoes of an undercover CIA agent, The Agency sets up multiple storylines throughout its ten-episode season. With Showtime renewing the espionage series for a comeback, Season 1 of The Agency ensures that the ground is set for Season 2 to maintain the adrenaline-inducing action. The season finale, while sealing the fate of a few important characters, such as the Russian General Volchok (Juris Zagars), leaves the fate of others, including Fassbender's Martian, hanging in the balance. Michael Fassbender, the Hollywood star of films like Inglourious Basterds, X-Men: First Class and The Killer, has expressed interest in returning to the Alien franchise to make another sequel. Fassbender gave life to David in Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, two essential but divisive entries in the universe created by Ridley Scott. However, Fassbender's comments suggest that his love of the franchise is down to one man alone; Ridley Scott. While Scott acted as producer and advisor on both Alien: Romulus, and the upcoming TV seires Alien: Earth, it is not clear whether Fassbender would only consider a return if he was being directed by Scott.
Fassbender recently spoke to Esquire about his latest TV show, The Agency. Based on the French thriller The Bureau, the series follows Brandon Colby, aka Martian, an international spy living undercover. It premiered on Showtime last November, and its last episode ran a few days ago.

The season one finale of The Agency ends with Michael Fassbender’s Martian in nearly the same emotional space as he was when the show began: longing to be reunited with Dr. Samia Zahir (Jodie Turner-Smith), the Sudanese anthropology professor he fell in love with while stationed as a CIA operative in Ethiopia.
However, their inability to be together is no longer just a matter of distance and duty to one’s country, as it once was when Martian ended their relationship upon returning to his post in London to resume life under the cover of Paul Lewis. It’s now one of life and death, as Martian’s failed attempt to recruit Samia to the CIA has not only put her life in danger but also his own when he agrees to become a double agent for the U.K.’s Secret Intelligence Service...

Warning: This article contains Spoilers for The Agency episode 8I have to preface this review by saying that, while I am aware that The Agency is based on a successful French TV series, Le Bureau des Légendes, I have never watched the original. As such, while some watching Michael Fassbender's new spy series could more or less know where things are headed, I'm in the dark as to what the original series showcased in its first season finale and subsequent seasons. I preferred it that way to be able to judge The Agency on its own, and episode 9 has set up a finale I can't wait for.
The Agency is a 2024 espionage thriller following covert CIA agent Martian, who is recalled to London Station, disrupting his undercover life. As a former romance rekindles, Martian's career and true identity are jeopardized, leading him into a high-stakes world of international intrigue and deception.

Days after debuting, a new spy thriller has quickly established itself as a hit. The subgenre is experiencing a bit of a resurgence in streaming, with shows like Peacock's The Day of the Jackal, the Apple TV+ dramedy Slow Horses, and Netflix's recent Black Doves which stars Keira Knightley and Ben Winshaw. Each of those shows comes from a notably different storytelling angle, though they've all managed to stand out. Boosted by positive reviews, Black Doves may be among the best yet, a thriller that unfolds over the Christmas holidays and features a hilariously abrupt kill scene early on.
There are also other series that fall into the category, albeit with slight variations. The Night Agent is soon returning to Netflix for a second season, on January 23, though it will look markedly different and feature a largely new cast. The Recruit, more of a comedy, led by Noah Centineo,...

Showtime's The Agency has impressed with its star-studded cast in season 1, and now the spy series has scored a season 2 renewal. Based on the popular French program Le Bureau des Légendes, the show concerns an undercover agent named Martian (Michael Fassbender) who is pulled out of the field where he returns to the Agency's recruitment office. However, once he returns to the "real world", he begins to suspect that the woman he is falling in love with might also be a spy. Though hardly the most original spy series ever, The Agency dazzles with its starry ensemble.

The Agency has scored a quick Season 2 renewal at Showtime after a monster debut weekend.
The first two episodes of the espionage thriller have racked up 5.1M global “viewers” on streaming and linear since premiering on November 29. Paramount Global says it’s Showtime’s most-streamed new series in history, though streaming-specific numbers weren’t available.
(While Paramount is touting viewers, it’s important to note that, on Paramount+, the company can’t determine how many people are watching via a single stream, or if anyone is actually watching at all. This likely means that Paramount is using “active sub households” as a proxy for streaming viewers.)
“The success of The Agency is proof that our new Showtime slate is poised to propel Paramount+ to its next phase of growth,” Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO and President/CEO, Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios said in a statement.

“The Agency” is a success for Showtime, and that’s not a secret. The espionage thriller saw 5.1 million cross-platform viewers globally, making it the most streamed new Showtime series in the history of the network. On the heels of these high ratings, the drama has been renewed for a Season 2 less than a week after its premiere.
Part of that accomplishment has to do with the increased reach Showtime originals now have. In January, the premium cable brand was added to its parent company’s streamer and is now officially branded as Paramount+ with Showtime.
