Australian pay-tv and streaming service Foxtel is forging ahead with its originals slate.
Long-serving Foxtel executive Brian Walsh, who recently formally extended his consultancy agreement, will serve as executive director of drama for the Foxtel Group. He will oversee all Australian commissioned scripted content for Foxtel and its streaming service Binge.
“More than ever, the Foxtel Group [is] competing with the global streaming giants and we have to generate our originals to maintain and to grow our audiences,” Walsh told Variety.
Foxtel recently premiered its 10-episode courtroom drama, “The Twelve,” based on the Belgium series “De Twaalf.” It stars Sam Neill, making a long awaited return to Australian television, and is Foxtel’s most watched drama series this year.
“Our commissions, I would describe as premium,” said Walsh. “Because our major international suppliers are HBO and BBC, our audiences demand intelligent, smart drama that features marquee casts.”

It's been a few weeks since Killing Eve concluded with a series finale that left a dark cloud over the legacy of the hit BBC America drama.
The shocking Killing Eve Season 4 Episode 8 killed off Villanelle (Jodie Comer) in a move that has courted controversy.
If you watch Killing Eve online, you know the episode ended with Villanelle being shot by a sniper after taking down The Twelve.
Now, Luke Kennings, who penned the novels the series was based on, is opening up about the conclusion.
In a column for The Guardian, the writer said that the series-ender pretty much punished Eve and Villanelle.
Jennings was thrilled to see his work adapted to the screen but said "the final series ending took me aback."
Jennings recalled speaking to Phoebe Waller-Bridge before the series was ordered. He said that Waller-Bridge “and I first discussed Villanelle’s character five years ago, we...

Killing Eve wrapped up its incredible run after four seasons on Sunday night.
TV Fanatic chatted with Fiona Shaw, one of the three leading ladies, to discuss Killing Eve Season 4.
Check out our interview below!
TV Fanatic: What did you think of Carolyn's storyline this season? What was your personal opinion on it?
Well, it wasn't done without some consultation. We've been talking about it since the February before we started shooting, so I was active with Laura.
So I've enjoyed the conversations -- I think we were very ambitious for it. I think there was a very big weight on everyone's shoulders, so some of the things we worked out in advance and some we did not.
Some things did develop as the season went on. I was very interested in travel.
I thought we should travel. So we did end up going to, as it were, Cuba.

This Killing Eve article contains major spoilers for the series finale.
Killing Eve Season 4 Episodes 7 and 8
Killing Eve ends its four-season run in a double-episode finale that is so entirely out of step with the final three minutes that it’s hard to even consider them together. In the end, the finale will be remembered for the rushed, half-baked ending that many fans will see as a betrayal as it takes the easy way out. Using death and trauma as a stand-in for prestige and seriousness of purpose is pervasive issue in the era of Peak TV, but it’s especially pernicious where it intersects with tropes that are harmful toward marginalized groups, like “Bury Your Gays.”
There’s a world in which I can accept Villanelle dying – several of them, depending on how it’s done. Frankly, it’s what I expected of the series from the beginning. But...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Killing Eve” Season 4, Episode 8, “Hello, Losers.”]
In May 2018, when “Killing Eve” aired its first finale, the episode ended in aptly wild fashion. Villanelle (Jodie Comer) was severely wounded; some may even have presumed she was dead. Eve was distraught, having followed through on her season-long promise for vengeance yet unable to cope with the confounding loss she suffered as a result. Konstantin (Kim Bodnia) was a goner (reportedly). Carolyn (Fiona Shaw) was in the wind (though probably on her way back to MI6).
At the time, some wondered if this wasn’t the best possible ending for “Killing Eve.” Audiences already knew another season was in the offing — BBC America renewed the series before it even premiered — but between the cat-and-mouse spy story (that couldn’t go on forever), the “will they, won’t they” central relationship (that never aligned perfectly with either “they should” or “they shouldn’t”), and...

Spoiler Alert: This post contains details about the two-part series finale of Killing Eve.
AMC and BBC America’s steamy cat-and-mouse thriller Killing Eve concluded with tarot readings, a wedding and two tragic deaths.
The two-parter began tracking the lives Villanelle (Jodie Comer) and Eve (Sandra Oh) lead after parting ways, again, in the previous episode. Villanelle, still on her quest to kill The Twelve, hikes and hunts with fellow assassin Gunn (Marie-Sophie Ferdane). Meanwhile, Eve tries to return to a seemingly regular life following Hélène’s death. After a haunting karaoke session and chat with therapist Martin, Eve realizes that she isn’t quite done trying to take down The Twelve.
Meanwhile, Carolyn (Fiona Shaw) travels to Salzburg to meet up with Russian contact Vlad to figure out The Twelve’s meeting place – turns out to be MI6’s pub The Barn Swallow. After a concerning call from his daughter Irina,...

Some fan-favorite characters kicked the bucket in the final two episodes of Killing Eve.
Killing Eve Season 4 Episode 7 saw Pam enact one last murder on Helene's behalf.
This death broke and stunned us, as we seriously loved this character.
Pam gave Konstantin a big hug and thanked him for helping her get her new life, then cut his stomach open.
As he died, she learned that Helene got killed by Villanelle and that she didn't have to kill him: but it was too late.
He was already bleeding out to no return, so she sped up the process and slit his throat.
She comforted him as he died, but we needed a lot of tissues.
Even though Konstantin often proved to be a dirty bastard, we still loved his humor and his presence on the show.
Kim Bodnia was incredible in the role over the past four seasons, and while...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you haven’t seen the series finale of “Killing Eve”, which aired Sunday, April 10 on BBC America and AMC Plus.
In their last confrontation, Eve (Sandra Oh) and Carolyn (Fiona Shaw) sit perfectly still in an unassuming pub, eyeing the other with wary disdain as Villanelle (Jodie Comer) plays darts in the other room. “One of the great unspoken truths about life, Eve, is that people behave exactly as you expect them to,” Carolyn finally says. “Take you, for example. You’re about to embark on some mad endgame when you know, deep down, you’re just a woman who likes an inappropriately timed croissant on a Sunday morning.”
As Carolyn almost certainly expected, Eve counters: “And you are going to race me to it, even though you know deep down, you don’t have an excuse anymore.” She’s right — or at least she was,...

Carolyn, Eve, and Villanelle all got closer to their intended goals, with someone necessary dying.
Luckily, that person was not Villanelle; unluckily, that person was a different major player this season.
Helene got brutally killed during Killing Eve Season 4 Episode 6.
The cliffhanger from Killing Eve Season 4 Episode 5 left us on the edge of our seats.
Villanelle got shot with an arrow right through her back and seemed to be losing consciousness in Eve's arms.
Luckily, Eve managed to get Villanelle into Konstantin and Pam's hotel room, where Pam cared for the wound.
Eve: Have you lost your mind?
Konstantin: She's good with anatomy
Eve: Of corpses!

Eve and Villanelle were still at odds, and the scene became tenser when Villanelle ignored her, then expressed her anger at Eve.

Killing Eve Season 4 Episode 6
So much about this episode of Killing Eve feels like a return to old ground. Villanelle is only interested in Eve when she isn’t looking. Eve is aiding and abetting Villanelle while she kills, going so far as to kill herself, and then left alone in a frenzy to deal with the aftermath. Eve brought up the way that Carolyn so horribly mistreated her in season 2, using her as a pawn to get what she wanted, consequences be damned. Carolyn is trying to mastermind from the shadows thanks to her old connections, with mixed results.
With only a few episodes of the series left, Villanelle killing Helene was a much-needed change of pace. Killing Eve mostly used Cuba to tread water, so it’s good to see that rather than keeping Helene in the wings until some sort of final massacre,...

The latest from Belgium’s Eyeworks Film & TV Drama and director Wouter Bouvijn – who teamed on Canneseries hits “The Twelve” and “Red Light” – “1985,” sold by Studiocanal, works on multiple levels as a coming-of-age series.
Two young Gendarmarie police recruits, Marc and Franky, and his sis Vicky, a law student and pirate radio DJ, move to Brussels. They are soon caught up in police corruption – insider drug trading, heavy fire arms robbery – and the rise of the brutal Nijvel gang.
Created by Willem Wallyn (“Albatros”), this is the coming-of-age story of three unbreakable friends loss of innocence, and that of a nation in its leaders.
It is also an origins tale, of the forging of the modern age. Belgium’s distrust of its forces of law and order and political class rankles to this day, shared now with other countries, as does its politics of confrontation which Vicky denounces in an on-air monolog in Ep.

Killing Eve Season 4 Episode 5
In black and white in 1979 Berlin, we meet a young Carolyn who was apparently always dry, startlingly quick, and maybe always a disturbingly cool customer, if her reaction to her father’s suicide is any indication. If Kenny’s death wasn’t enough, this is why she’s so dogged in her fight to take down the Twelve: both she and Konstantin were founding members. It feels like you perhaps had a bit more info to add to the murder board and share with the class, Carolyn.
A gaping whole at the center of this final season of Killing Eve (and a bit of a problem with the previous one as well) is the fact that the audience has no real investment in The Twelve. Sure they’re bad or whatever, but who cares? Clearly we’re here for Villaneve,...

Lars' real name is revealed to be Johan, Carolyn's old boyfriend from 1979.

The 1979 segments followed Carolyn with her group of radicals, friends, and lovers.
The main players included young Carolyn, Johan, Carolina, Karl, and Carolyn's dad.
Interestingly, Carolyn is undercover, but so is someone else in the group: Karl.

Carolyn Martens is hands-down one of Killing Eve's most fascinating characters, making it all the more difficult to imagine that this is the last season we may have with her. It feels like the writers are only beginning to brush the surface of Fiona Shaw's character's brilliantly crafted backstory. So when E! News had the opportunity to speak with her exclusively about the fourth and final season, we had to ask if she'd ever consider appearing in a spin-off series centered around The Twelve and Carolyn. Her answer? A resounding yes! "People are interested in the potential of it," she said, before adding, "I don't know what will happen there but I...

Killing Eve never backs down from emotional episodes, and "Don't Get Eaten" once again proves that these characters deal with a lot.
Killing Eve Season 4 Episode 2 saw emotionally difficult journies for all of our leads.
The hour showed Eve, Villanelle, and Carolyn take steps in new directions.
Eve has taken a lot into her own hands, and she's acting quite rashly because of it.
She's putting her life at risk recklessly, and some threats to her safety could have been avoided if she had just listened to Yusuf.
Yusuf wanted her to do more reconnaissance and confront Helene carefully, but instead, she showed up at Helene's house in the middle of the night.
Eve wants to take down The Twelve and is willing to sacrifice herself for it, but she needs to be more careful even to reach the head of The Twelve.
Eve seems to be slowly losing herself in her search.

Killing Eve Season 4 Episode 2
In an episode that feels very vintage Killing Eve, the titular character has some serious success in her quest to take down The Twelve, due in no small part to things she’s picked up from Villanelle over the years. While season 3 felt like watching Eve stare over the edge as she nearly became Villanelle, this season is something quite different. Eve has harnessed everything she’s learned in the previous three seasons, but she’s the one controlling it for her own aims. She’s seen the abyss and pulled herself back, and now she’s halfway to fearless.
Simply showing up to Hélène’s house is the kind of bold/deadly move from Eve that caught Carolyn Marten’s eye way back in season 1, but the execution here comes straight from Villanelle’s playbook. Recreating the terrifying visit...

Eve, Villanelle, and Carolyn are back and all find themselves in exciting situations.
Killing Eve Season 4 Episode 1 saw Villanelle attempting to turn to God, Eve stuck on a path of revenge, and Carolyn struggling to get back into the game.
Although the hour occasionally dragged, the premiere brought back all of our favorite characters and set them up for a thrilling final season.
The most intriguing storyline ended up being Villanelle's fascinating religious exploration.
Villanelle has always been troubled (and that's nice), and seeing her turn to religion seems like an odd choice.
She claimed that it's under the guise of trying to better herself, but later it's proved only to try and impress Eve.
Still, it did become a valiant effort from Villanelle, and the very last minutes may have her legitimately turning to God.
We'll discuss that weird scene later; let's shift to Eve for now.

Killing Eve Season 4 Episode 1
Villanelle often starts the new season hiding out somewhere and fooling someone, but the question this season is whether she has actually turned over a new leaf, or is she just fooling herself. Given her focus on optics and an audience of one, it often seems like her soul’s restoration is more about vanity and only appearing to be a better person. But there are still just enough quiet moments alone where she seems to be looking for something better, a new path if not actual forgiveness, to keep us guessing.
It would be easy for all the religious imagery to feel indulgent and on the nose, especially after all the promotional materials and the way Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag already trod such similar ground so exquisitely in its final season, even if Pwb is no...

All good things must end — including Killing Eve. How this very good darkly comic spy thriller will wrap up its fourth and final season promises to be spectacular thanks to the chemistry between mutually obsessed bureaucrat-turned-avenger Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh) and assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer). Oh tells us that from the get-go, which picks up a few months after the women parted ways on London’s Tower Bridge, Eve’s “different physically, she’s gained skills, spent time learning how to fight, use weapons, ride a motorcycle. But still always with that focus, and this focus is specifically and still on the revenge mission to get to The Twelve.” The Twelve, that shadowy global power group that employed Villanelle, aren’t in the ex-killer’s crosshairs in the premiere. “She’s put her faith in God, found the church, and is on this quest to be good,” Comer says. “People...

The end is nigh for Eve and Villanelle.

The star said that the scene was "technically challenging," but she was "very happy" to work with Comer on the pivotal scene.

People like Eve (Sandra Oh) and Villanelle (Jodie Comer) aren’t made for happy endings, according to the new trailer for BBC America’s hit drama, “Killing Eve.”
The BBC America hit drama series returns for its fourth and final season on Sunday, Feb. 27, and it’s clear that intelligence agent Eve and assassin Villanelle certainly can’t quit each other just yet — even after vowing to never see each other again at the end of season three.
“I killed two people last night after I tried really hard not to,” Villanelle says during a therapy session in the trailer.
Similarly, Eve finds shooting someone in the hand seductive. Are they two sides of the same coin?

BBC America’s “Killing Eve” is coming to an end, and on Tuesday the network revealed the trailer for its fourth and final season.
Villanelle (Jodie Comer) and Eve (Sandra Oh) find themselves seeking to change their lives — Villanelle through therapy — in the new trailer. Is Villanelle developing a conscience while Eve goes in the opposite direction? The trailer sure seems to hint at that.
The final season will see Eve and Villanelle starting out in very different places. Eve is working on a revenge mission, while Villanelle is trying to prove she’s not a monster.
Meanwhile Carolyn (Fiona Shaw) is chasing down The Twelve and the person who ordered the hit on Kenny.
Each of the women are driven by “passion, revenge and obsession, building towards. messy, nuanced and totally glorious season finale,” according to AMC.
Season 4 is written by Laura Neal. Neal is also an executive producer on the series.

The official trailer for Killing Eve‘s fourth and final chapter poses the question: Can Villanelle really change for the better?
