Sum 41 gave their final performance at the 2025 Juno Awards, where they were also inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
In typical awards-show fashion, the pop-punk vets performed a medley during the ceremony on Sunday (March 30th), running through portions of their hits “Landmines,” “Fat Lip,” “Still Waiting,” and “In Too Deep.” With the band having wrapped up its final farewell tour dates in January, the medley will stand as Sum 41’s last-ever performance (unless they reunite in the future).
Also at the ceremony, the band of nearly 30 years was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, with Deryck Whibley and company being welcomed to the stage by fellow pop-punkers Joel and Benji Madden of Good Charlotte.
“It’s surprising for us to be standing up here right now because Sum 41, we made a lot of fucking mistakes,” Whibley told the audience in the acceptance speech, in...

The horror comedy sub-genre has really come into its own in the last half decade with films like Ready or Not and The Monkey showing fans the funny side of death. However, one of the critically-acclaimed genre films that didn't do so hot at the box office was Abigail. The 2024 vampire ramp will be a year old come April. Now, the star-studded bloodbath from directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin (Radio Silence) is finally coming to 4K.
All thanks to the German distributor Turbine Media, Abigail is dancing into the format with a 4K/Blu-ray combo pack. Both the slipcover and case feature two variations of the horror comedy’s poster. This would be our main vampire, Abigail in her ballet dress looking up. The disc art will also have Abigail front and center with two gory pics of our lead from the film. In 2022, Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media revived the Scream franchise with a new entry (the fifth) that was a box office hit, earning almost $139 million at the global box office. Fourteen months later, Scream VI came along – and became an even bigger hit, pulling in almost $169 million at the global box office, a number that was up there with the series’ heyday, when the first Scream and Scream 2 made just over $170 million. (Scream 3 also made over $160 million – only Scream 4 failed to crack $100 million.) So, of course, the companies are moving full steam ahead with Scream 7. While the movie seemed, initially, to be on the fast-track to success, the track it’s on has turned out to be a shockingly bumpy ride.

If you grew up a fan of the paranormal in the '90s, then you’ll easily recognize the name Art Bell. The iconic radio host of Coast to Coast Am talked long into the night with his guests, discussing everything from ghosts and aliens, to time travel and Bigfoot. Now, Academy Award-nominee Paul Giamatti is set to portray the late Bell in a new biopic from Ready or Not and Abigail directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.
Per Deadline, the untitled project with Giamatti in the lead is now in the works, with studios like Amazon and Warner Bros. vying for the pitch. The script is being written by Sam Chalsen (TV's Sleepy Hollow) and Nelson Greaves (Unfriended), with Sophie Cassidy's 2.0 Entertainment producing along with Jeff Katz, the latter of whom is an accomplished talk radio host in his own right, and a big fan of Bell.

Live Nation Productions is currently working on a comedy movie inspired by Green Day. More on New Year’s Rev below.
American Idiot, Green Day’s smash hit from 2004, is still one of the biggest tunes of the noughties. Given the band’s status, it’s slightly surprising that there hasn’t been a biopic about them yet – after all, Hollywood loves the genre. Live Nation Productions, meanwhile, is planning something a little different for the Californian rock outfit.
Instead of a traditional biopic, the studio is making a comedy movie “inspired by” the band, as reported by Variety. Titled New Years Rev, the film will follow three friends on a journey to Los Angeles where they presume they’re opening for Green Day. They’re not, which is where the comedy kicks in, I believe.

Ready Or Not directors Radio Silence are to pivot from horror to biopic with a film about eccentric radio host, Art Bell. Paul Giamatti is to star.
According to a new report, several studios are vying for the next project from Radio Silence, the horror filmmakers who brought us Ready Or Not, Scream VI and Abigail. The directing duo – individually known as Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett – have so far cut their teeth in the horror genre, but their next feature will instead centre around the life of the late Art Bell. He was a legendary American radio host who would take calls from eccentrics nationwide; every night you’d get odd stories from callers who claimed they were victims of alien abductions, conspiracy theories, supernatural entities or other oddities.

Exclusive: We are hearing that Amazon and Warner Bros among others have put bids in for a pitch that’s been making rounds from the Radio Silence team with Paul Giamatti attached to star.
The pitch is a biopic about the late paranormal DJ Art Bell, who would broadcast his radio show from his home studio 65 miles west of Las Vegas, fielding unscreened telephone calls in a five-hour show on Knye-fm called Coast to Coast.
Guests would offer up eyewitness stories on Bell’s show about alien counters, past lives, time travel and more X-File-like situations. His 2018 New York Times obit noted that Bell claimed he and his wife spotted a “150-foot-long triangular craft” above their car one night before it disappeared.
In Coast to Coast‘s heyday in the 1990s, it would pull in around 10 million listeners.

Radio Silence, the horror filmmaking banner known for reviving the Scream franchise, has signed with CAA.
The banner was previously at UTA.
Radio Silence, comprised of directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, most recently directed Universal’s 2024 vampire thriller Abigail. Producer Chad Villella is no longer with the outfit.
Radio Silence made segments of horror anthologies V/H/S and Southbound, delivering their feature debut with the supernatural horror movie Devil’s Due, which bowed in 2014 and grossed nearly $37 million on a $7 million budget But it was their 2019 black horror comedy Ready or Not that became a breakthrough hit, grossing more than $57 million on a budget of around $6 million.
That led the team to tackle a resuscitation of the Scream franchise, first with Scream, in 2022, and then Scream VI in 2023. The movies starred Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega. The duo departed the franchise in order to make Abigail, which starred Barrera,...

Despite a litany of streaming services out there to choose from, the only surefire way to have immediate access to a film is to own it yourself. But with companies like Best Buy getting rid of their Physical Media departments, collecting has become more and more niche. This is a shame because I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve gone to JustWatch and discovered the movie I was looking for wasn’t streaming Anywhere. And even worse when we go to find a copy and discover that it’s not even available to own physically! I’ve never heard of a company refusing to make money, but we’ve seen it time and time again in the movie industry.
As a big fan of the Scream franchise, I set out to collect all of the 4K Steelbooks for the franchise. Hell, I even imported the second one from Europe.

From previous films by Radio Silence to similarly blood-soaked vampire comedies like The Lost Boys, there are plenty of great horror movies like Abigail for fans to check out. Helmed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known collectively as Radio Silence, Abigail puts a fresh comedic spin on the vampire mythology. It revolves around an elite group of crooks being sent to abduct the 12-year-old ballerina daughter of a powerful figure in the criminal underworld, only to find that shes actually a bloodthirsty, centuries-old vampire. Shes not trapped in a mansion with them; theyre trapped in a mansion with her.
Before turning their sights to the vampire genre, Radio Silence had put their own uniquely energetic and darkly comic stamp on horror cinema with Ready or Not and their Scream films. Abigail isnt the first movie to wring pitch-black humor out of vampires having fun; this was previously seen in From Dusk Till Dawn.

Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from Your Monster.
In Melissa Barrera‘s new fairytail-esque musical horror comedy, she plays a beauty who embraces her inner beast.
Ahead of Your Monster‘s Friday premiere in theaters, the actress told Deadline she was inspired to take the role in writer/director Caroline Lindy‘s feature debut because the character ultimately learns to “not make [herself] small in the eyes of other people” through her romance with the titular beast.
She knows that struggle all too well, having been fired from her starring role as Sam Carpenter in the Scream franchise last year after expressing support for Palestine in the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Barrera remains “very grateful and honored” to be still considered a scream queen by fans of the franchise, as well as her roles in Bed Rest (2022) and this year’s Radio Silence horror comedy Abigail. “I think the horror fandom is...

The MonsterVerse has, somewhat quietly, become one of the most reliable franchises going in Hollywood at the moment. For a full decade dating back to 2014's "Godzilla" right up through this year's "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire," these films have built up a loyal audience with no signs of fatigue on the part of the viewers. While Warner Bros. and Legendary are quickly looking to get a new installment going, they will need a new director, as we recently learned that Adam Wingard will not be returning to the helm. So, who should take his place?
Wingard is the only filmmaker to direct two MonsterVerse installments, having helmed 2021's "Godzilla vs. Kong" as well as "The New Empire," which now ranks as the highest-grossing "Godzilla" movie ever. So sure, the studio would probably have liked him to return, but he's busy with other projects. Besides, that just opens the...

Abigail is a comedy horror that pays homage to classic vampire films like The Lost Boys, blending scares with laughter. Radio Silence's movie succeeds where other recent Dracula-inspired films have failed, balancing suspense with humor and gore. Kathryn Newton shined in the 2024 horror movie Abigail, proving she would make a perfect Buffy Summers in a revival. Newton's comedic flair in Abigail could bring a refreshing change to a Buffy reboot, adding more humor to the iconic character. Despite past confusion, updates suggest a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot with a new cast may still happen sooner rather than later.
If a remake of Buffy the Vampire Slayer ends up happening, a 2024 horror movie just proved which actress would be a perfect fit for the role of Buffy Summers. Scream 7 and the Escape from New York requel may be off the table for the filmmaking team known as Radio Silence, but they have just set up a new high profile project. Deadline reports that Radio Silence is set to make The Robots Go Crazy, which has Andy Samberg of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Palm Springs, and Hot Rod attached to star in it.
Samberg is known for his comedy work, and sure enough, The Robots Go Crazy will be taking the Radio Silence team – which previously brought us the horror comedy Ready or Not, the slasher sequels Scream (2022) and Scream VI, the vampire movie Abigail, and segments of the horror anthologies V/H/S and Southbound – out of the horror genre. This project is being described as an action comedy.

The following contains spoilers for Abigail, now playing in theaters.
Abigail star Melissa Barrera reveals there was an alternate ending involving her character in the Radio Silence-helmed horror film. However, Barrera explains why the conclusion was left "intentionally vague."
Speaking with Screen Rant, Barrera, who plays Joey in Abigail, explained the idea behind the alternate ending. The movie chronicles a group of kidnappers (including Joey) tasked with holding the titular daughter of a notorious underworld figure for a huge ransom. However, the kidnappers realize Abigail (Alisha Weir) isn't a normal young girl, showing her bloodthirsty ways as a vampire ballerina. The twist ending sees Joey and Abigail align to take out the corrupted Frank (Dan Stevens) before he gets them first, with Abigail allowing Joey to leave peacefully to reunite with her son.

20th Century Studios' Escape from New York reboot has just hit a major roadblock. Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, collectively known as Radio Silence, have revealed that they are no longer attached to direct the project.
While speaking with ComicBook.com to promote their latest movie, Abigail, arriving on PVOD, Radio Silence confirmed they were no longer developing the Escape from New York reboot. "We are not, unfortunately. I think titles like that bounce around for a while and I think they've tried to get that out of the blocks a few times," said Gillett. "I think it's just ultimately a tricky rights issue thing. There's a clock on it and we just weren't in a position to make the clock, ultimately."

Tricky rights issue was the final straw for Radio Silence, leading to their departure from the Escape from New York reboot. Radio Silence hints at potential return to the project in the future, though currently not officially attached in any capacity. The planned reboot falls somewhere between a remake and a sequel, avoiding the folly of trying to replicate Carpenter's original film.
The long-gestating reboot of John Carpenters beloved sci-fi action flick Escape from New York has sadly taken a major step backwards as it loses directing duo Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, aka Radio Silence. The filmmaking pair behind the likes of Scream and Ready or Not have now confirmed in a conversation with Comicbook.com that they have left the project due to a tricky rights issue thing.

Less than one month after releasing in theaters, Universal has announced that their vampire ballerina horror movie Abigail will be headed home to “Premium VOD” this week.
We’ve learned this morning that you’ll be able to buy ($24.99) or rent ($19.99) Abigail at home beginning tomorrow, May 7, 2024, from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.
Abigail is the third vampire movie from the Universal Monsters brand in the past year, the film scaring up $34.7 million at the worldwide box office these past few weeks. While the big-screen adaptation of The Fall Guy was never expected to open to mega-blockbuster numbers, no one thought the well-reviewed Ryan Gosling movie would stumble out of the gate to this extent. Indeed, Hollywood insiders assumed this had a shot at a $40 million plus opening (we expected about $35 million). Now it looks like David Leitch’s film will only make $28.5 million over what’s widely considered the first weekend of the summer movie season. Last year, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 made $110 million in the same frame.
The Fall Guy was never expected to open anywhere near that number. Indeed, it was originally planned as a March release, only to be moved thanks to how empty the release calendar is due to the SAG/WGA strikes from last year. Still, given how well it was reviewed (we loved it) and the fact that stars Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt...

A fiercely capable woman with ice water in her veins finds herself in a creepy-looking mansion, where she has to survive a supernatural threat over the course of one endless night and eventually ends up covered in gore and viscera? If I had a nickel for every time a horror movie directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (aka Radio Silence) came out in the last five years with that exact same premise, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but you know how the rest of the meme goes. If this past weekend's "Abigail" triggered a nagging feeling of déjà vu, well, that's probably because the vampire movie packing a nasty bite (you can read /Film's review by Bj Colangelo here) shares quite a bit of DNA with the directing duo's previous movie, 2019's "Ready or Not."
Apparently, the creative team decided to lean into those similarities even more.

Radio Silence Talk ‘Abigail,’ Their ‘Scream’ Exit and Trying to Make ‘The Shining’ Elevators Jealous
Abigail has been a long time coming for Radio Silence, the filmmaking collective consisting of co-directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin/Tyler Gillett and producer Chad Villella.
Coming off of their successful relaunch of the Scream franchise in 2022, the team strived to make another film before they returned to Ghostface. One idea was a feature now known as Abigail, but they ultimately ended up shooting Scream VI instead, as Scream rights holder Spyglass Media was eager to keep the momentum going. And together, they did just that, as Scream VI went on to set domestic box office records for the franchise.
Still, Abigail never left Radio Silence’s minds. As they were making Scream VI, the team was also preparing to do the ballerina vampire pic immediately after they finished promoting Scream VI’s March 2023 release. After all, they’d just put out two Scream movies within a 14-month period, so it’s...

Few things are more unnerving in pop culture than a seemingly innocent kid with murderous intent. Reagan in The Exorcist. Damien Thorn in The Omen movies. Eric Cartman in so many South Park storylines. Abigail's titular lead, played by Matilda: The Musical's Alisha Weir, is cut from the same cloth. She's just a ballet-loving tween who, as revealed in the marketing for Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett's (i.e. Radio Silence) new horror film, also happens to be a vampire. This is a detail that bodes poorly for the ragtag crew of kidnappers who find themselves locked up with her in this grisly and well-made, yet occasionally by-the-books, mashup of classic genres.
Abigail's marketing proved to be a double-edged sword. The trailers made no secret about the movie's core gimmick, leaving viewers waiting for the leads to figure out how screwed they really are during the movie's first half.

The film, about a would-be band of criminals who kidnap a little girl for ransom only to discover she's a vampire, is getting high praise from critics and audiences alike, and is projected to gross $12-15 million dollars its opening weekend. However, while Hollywood is big on franchise sequels these days, the directors...

In the wake of Leigh Whannell’s Invisible Man back in 2020, Universal has been struggling to achieve further box office success with their Universal Monsters brand. Even in the early days of the pandemic, Invisible Man scared up $144 million at the worldwide box office, while last year’s Universal Monsters: Dracula movies The Last Voyage of the Demeter and Renfield didn’t even approach that number when you Combine their individual box office hauls.
The horror-comedy Renfield came along first in April 2023, ending its run with just $26 million. The period piece Last Voyage of the Demeter ended its own run with a mere $21 million.
But Universal is trying again with their ballerina vampire movie Abigail this weekend, the latest bloodbath directed by the filmmakers known as Radio Silence.
Unlike Demeter and Renfield, the early reviews for Abigail are incredibly strong, with our own Meagan Navarro calling the film “savagely inventive...

There is no post-credits scene in Abigail, allowing the story to stand alone without teasing a sequel. Radio Silence's latest horror movie delivers on the gore with a vampire twist. Leaving room for a potential Abigail 2, the film's ending leaves major characters' fates open.
Radio Silence's 2024 horror movie could be the start of a new monster franchise, and whether Abigail has a post-credits scene setting up more is known. The original horror film stars Melissa Barrera, Kathryn Newton, Dan Stevens, and others as they attempt to survive the night after kidnapping the daughter of a powerful crime lord. Little do they know that this girl, Abigail, is actually a vampire. This leads to a bloody sequence of events as Abigail attempts to kill her kidnappers and break free by the time that Abigail's ending comes to a close.

Abigail flips genre expectations from heist to monster movie, offering surprises and a gory, terrifying experience. The stacked cast, including Kathryn Newton and Dan Stevens, shines in this fresh take on vampire horror. Characters like Frank and Joey add layers of mistrust and tension in a house filled with bloodthirsty monsters.
Abigail follows a crew of criminals who kidnap a 12-year-old girl in order to collect a $50 million ransom from her father, a powerful figure in the criminal underworld. However, as tensions rise, they discover that there is more to Abigail than they anticipated. Trapped in the house with a bloodthirsty monster, they will do whatever it takes to survive as their prey-turned-predator hunts them down.
Abigail is helmed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the brilliant directing minds behind Ready or Not, Scream, and Scream VI. With their signature tone of terrifying horror and tension-breaking comedy, Abigail plays with...

It's a juggling act to get an entertaining horror film - one that's fun, funny, yet still scary, with a good share of violence and gore, a decent story with snappy dialogue, and a monster that an audience can root for, maybe more than the heros. Radio Silence - directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, and producer Chad Villella - have been (mostly) pulling this off, with a particular formula that has worked with slasher and pseudo-slasher films such as Ready or Not and Scream (2022). If it isn't broken, don't fix it, and hence we have Abigail. A solid piece of horror action comedy, a story that moves from crime caper to pseudo-slasher with an engaging monster, it's not without its flaws, but it's...

Two highly anticipated films are released this weekend: Radio Silence’s Abigail and Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. However, the release pattern for the latter is highly unusual, with Ritchie’s big-budget war epic only getting a theatrical release in the United States, skipping theaters in Canada and the UK in favor of an exclusive run on Prime Video later. As such, it’s not expected to make much of a dent at the weekend box office, with it looking like Abigail will pull off an easy win.
Currently, we’re predicting Abigail will make about $20 million. That’s much less than what Radio Silence pulled off with the Scream films. Remember, though, that this is an original horror title with a twist on classic vampire folklore. So far, the reviews have been mixed, with our man, Mike Conway, loving it, while others have accused it of being a tad goofy.

Radio Silence follow up Ready Or Not and two Scream films with the bloody and very 18-rated Abigail. Here’s our review.
It was only after walking out of a screening of Abigail that I appreciated just how much of it had been let out of the bag via its promotion. Not the ending or anything, but more the way the film turns from being the kidnap heist thriller it starts off as into, well, something else. I mention this not by way of criticism, but more to explain why this review isn’t going anywhere near stuff even shown in the trailer. I saw this cold and had an absolute blast. I can’t give you an honest reading as to how I’d feel had I known what was around the corner.
Still. I’m hardly playing surprises to suggest that there’s a horror tinge to this,...
