Casting director An Dorthe Braker, known as “casting queen” of German cinema, will receive an honorary German Film Award for outstanding contributions to German cinema, the German film academy announced Monday.

Braker was a pioneer in Germany, bringing a U.S.-style casting approach to the German film industry in the early 1990s, before the profession was formally recognized in Germany. Through her work on such features as Run Lola Run, Downfall and Nowhere in Africa, she has elevated repeated generations of German talent to the international stage.

“Many biographies of actors would not have been written without her,” said German Film Academy president Alexandra Maria Lara, whose own breakthrough came in the Oscar-nominated Downfall. “With her strong, clear attitude, she has had a strong influence on the profession of casting directors and has done great things for German film.”

Braker’s many credits include the Oscar-nominated features The Baader Meinhof Complex (2008) and Schtonk!

A new science fiction film is set to explore the complex relationship between humans and artificial intelligence, with acclaimed director Oliver Hirschbiegel and writer Peter Harness adapting Stanislaw Lem’s novel “The Inquest of Pilot Pirx.”

The film will follow Commander Pirx and his unique space mission crew, which includes both human and android members. At the heart of the story is a challenging scenario where crew members must identify who is human and who is artificial, while also questioning their own identity.

Hirschbiegel, known for his Academy Award-nominated film “Downfall,” brings extensive experience to the project. His previous works include “Das Experiment” and the Sundance Film Festival award-winning “13 Minutes.” Harness, fresh from his success with the Apple TV+ series “Constellation,” will write the screenplay.

Exclusive: Coming off his breakout role in Zone of Interest, Christian Friedel has signed with UTA for representation.

Friedel stars as the lead in Jonathan Glazer’s critically acclaimed feature The Zone of Interest, based on the book of the same name by Martin Amis. The film made its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023 to remarkable reviews, where it was awarded the coveted Grand Prix and has since received a number of accolades including two Oscars for best sound and best international feature film.

Friedel was recently cast in a significant role in season 3 of the Emmy-winning global phenomenon anthology series The White Lotus. He is set to star alongside Michelle Monaghan, Carrie Coon, Aimee Lou Wood, Jason Isaacs, Parker Posey and Leslie Bibb, among others. Production is currently underway in Thailand.

The cause of death of Anne Heche has been revealed. The Hollywood Reporter, citing the official coroner’s report, reported the actress’ accidental death was a result of “inhalation and thermal injuries,” in addition to “sternal fracture due to blunt trauma.”

On August 5, the 53-year-old Heche crashed her car into a home in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Mar Vista. It took nearly 60 firefighters over an hour to extinguish the fire and remove Heche from the vehicle. Days later, it was announced Heche was in a coma and brain dead and thus legally dead by California standards. She remained on life support until her organs could be donated.

Heche’s most famous ex-partner, Ellen DeGeneres, tweeted: “This is a sad day. I’m sending Anne’s children, family and friends all of my love.”

Anne Heche’s son Homer has shared a statement about his state of mind following his mother’s death on August 12.

Last week the Hollywood actress was involved in a car crash in Los Angeles and remained in a coma until her untimely death at age 53.

As previously reported, on August 5 Anne crashed her Mini Cooper into a home in the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles.

It was later revealed that she had been involved in two other car accidents before the fatal crash.

The home, which had an occupant at the time, caught on fire as a result of the crash.

Heche was unconscious and pulled from the wreckage; however, due to her brain injury, she succumbed to her injuries.

Another World alum Anne Heche is dead at the age of 53 after suffering brain damage in a horrific car crash last week.

On August 5, Anne crashed her blue Mini Cooper into a home in the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles. It was later revealed that it was her third crash of the night.

Lynne Mishele and her pets were inside the home when the car crash occurred, eventually burning down the house Lynne was renting.

Anne had been in a coma since the night of the horrible crash when she was pulled from the wreckage.

Yesterday news broke that Anne had suffered a catastrophic brain injury that she was not expected to survive.

Anne passed away this afternoon from those injuries.
