Spoilers for "Deadpool & Wolverine" follow.
The soundtrack to Shawn Levy's new superhero flick "Deadpool & Wolverine," the 158th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is chock-full of sarcastic needle drops and overblown musical cues, wielded specifically to amp up the movie's irony. "Deadpool & Wolverine" opens with a violent fight scene wherein Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) murders dozens of people using the adamantium bones of the deceased Logan as weapons. On the soundtrack, *Nsync's "Bye Bye Bye" plays, adding a silly, upbeat quality to the violence.
Later in the film, Deadpool and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) will get into a knock-down, stab-happy fight in a Honda minivan, spraying their own blood all over the car's interior. As they fight, one of them smacks the radio, and "You're the One That I Want" from "Grease" plays on the soundtrack. It's a jaunty, happy tune that serves as a comedic tonal juxtaposition to the slicing and dicing.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” appears to be playing with time a little bit, with the appearance of the Time Variance Authority, so perhaps it makes sense that the soundtrack for the film is filled with throwbacks.
In theaters now, the film officially brings Wade Wilson/Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) into the MCU, as the two pair up — begrudgingly, in the case of Wolverine — to save Wade’s world.
Surprisingly, there’s no Wham! on this soundtrack, but it does get pretty meta, bringing in a song from one of Hugh Jackman’s musicals. And, before you get excited, no, that’s not Taylor Swift on the soundtrack confirming any rumors she might be in the film.
Her song is called “You Belong With Me,” not “You Belong to Me.” This one is a classic though.
Here are all the songs in “Deadpool & Wolverine.”

Like its predecessors, Deadpool & Wolverine recruited some heavy-hitting songs for its soundtrack, which is fitting for the reunion of Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, who was born James Howlett.
While the trailer teased Madonna’s Like a Prayer, other anthems by groups like *Nsync and AC/DC or even the Goo Goo Dolls back action-packed and heartfelt moments in the film. Avril Lavigne has a banger in there as well, and of course, some of Hugh Jackman’s past projects creep in.

Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool relishes breaking the fourth wall with viewers, so it should be no surprise that the soundtrack for Deadpool & Wolverine will break the fourth wall with listeners. The film, which also stars Hugh Jackman, is the third entry in the Deadpool film series, which prides itself in featuring odd musical choices for its films. The soundtrack, which releases on July 24, has revealed its tracklist of songs, including a tune swiped from another Jackman film, the 2017 musical The Greatest Showman.
The official Deadpool social media account has now released the tracklist for the MCU outing, and it features a hodgepodge of artists and musical genres reaching back as far as the 1950s. In the album's playlist are a number of recognizable hits from the past, with one song that stands out from the rest: "The Greatest Show" from The Greatest Showman soundtrack. Constructing a soundtrack album is a gentle -- and perhaps lost -- art. This author is old enough to remember the 1990s heyday of movie soundtracks, when film producers would regularly license charting pop hits, obscure deep cuts, upcoming rappers, and underappreciated indie bands to construct carefully curated and meticulously produced albums that lived happily in your friends' cars all summer. There was a time when an unsuccessful film could recoup a lot of its theatrical losses with overwhelming soundtrack record sales. See: "Dead Man on Campus."
As the music industry collapsed in the early 2000s, however, soundtrack records fell out of favor. Movie songs became mere playlists, neither arranged on a CD in any cogent order nor lending themselves toward a general thematic thrust. We '90s teens can now whine (as is our wont) that soundtrack albums are, in the '20s, rarely more than "pile of neat songs.

Shrek not only kicked off a beloved animated franchise, but it also featured a memorable soundtrack packed with amazing songs. Critically acclaimed upon release, the Oscar Award-winning film cleverly re-imagined fairy tales and gave them a distinctly millennial twist. Blending elements of modern popular culture with classic fantasy stories, Shrek has a timeless feel while also being firmly rooted in its own era. The soundtrack was a large part of the film's success, thanks to a selection of tunes ranging from oldies to modern rock hits. Shrek may be a product of its time, but its soundtrack remains popular even decades later.
Initially released as Shrek: Music from the Original Motion Picture, the first soundtrack album featured almost all the hits from the movie and also included a notable cut from the original score. By 2003, the RIAA had certified the album two times platinum, and it was nominated for the Best Compilation Grammy.

In the six years since he reunited with the Coen Brothers for a brilliant remake of the classic John Wayne western True Grit, Jeff Bridges has struggled to connect with audiences in multiplexes, releasing little-seen flicks like R.I.P.D. and Seventh Son. But right now he's starring in one of the most critically-acclaimed movies of the year, the neo-western Hell or High Water. He plays a U.S. marshal days away from retirement that tracks a pair of bank robbers (Chris Pine, Ben Foster) across Texas. We spoke to Bridges about...

Back in the Doobie Brothers‘ Seventies heyday, singer Michael McDonald most likely viewed genre boundaries the same way he does today: as “absolute bullshit.” The legendary group was, for the most part, considered a rock band, but would fit right in on country radio with its chugging rhythms, infectious melodies and down-home lyrics. On Southbound, out today, they’re hoping for that long-awaited crossover — with the help of some country music heavyweights. Joining the Doobies on the collaboration album are Blake Shelton, Brad Paisley, Toby Keith, Zac Brown Band and...

It's unofficially 1941 Week. Here's Abstew on the year's greatest actress...
See anything you like?
Purrs Barbara Stanwyck's con artist Jean Harrington to Henry Fonda's smitten ale-heir-turned-Ophiologist Charles Pike in Preston Sturges' 1941 screwball classic, The Lady Eve. The question is asked as the contents of her wardrobe are on display (and the sultry delivery let's us know that Jean is hardly talking about the fuzzy slippers), but Stanwyck might have easily been asking movie-goers the same thing regarding her stellar body of work that year. In a quartet of successful films (The Lady Eve, Meet John Doe, You Belong to Me, and Ball of Fire), Stanwyck earned her second Oscar nomination, starred in a film Time magazine named one of the 100 greatest movies of all-time, and became one of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood. Unquestionably, 1941 would prove to be a peak Stanwyck year. ...

Last night, ABC Family's "Bunheads" aired its "winter finale" -- the last episode in the show's current order of 18 episodes -- and without any official word from the network about the show's future, it may have also been the series finale. That would be a shame.
The dramedy from "Gilmore Girls" creator Amy Sherman-Palladino is a gem, but judging by the ratings it remains something of a well-kept secret. Prior to last night's episode, the show has been averaging 1.27 million viewers and a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demo. Those are not embarrassing numbers by cable TV standards, but they're well under ABC Family's biggest hit, "Pretty Little Liars," and also a dropoff from "Bunheads" lead-in "Switched at Birth."
"Bunheads" fares better in the young female demos prized by the network, but judging strictly by overall viewership no one would be surprised if ABC Family threw in the towel.
