Last year, Warner Bros. / New Line Cinema celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Wes Craven-directed classic A Nightmare on Elm Street by giving the film a 4K Uhd release. There have been rumblings that they’re planning to follow up that release with a Nightmare on Elm Street franchise 4K Uhd box set sometime this year – and while such a set hasn’t been officially announced, there are promising signs that it’s actually happening. Six months ago, Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare director Rachel Talalay revealed on social media that she had been working on “regrading” that film. Now, A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy’s Revenge director Jack Sholder has confirmed that he’s working on a 4K remaster of his movie as well!

A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, and a new 4K restoration is in the works under the supervision of director Jack Sholder.

“I just spent last week on the Warners lot working on the restoration of Nightmare on Elm Street 2. The remastered 4K picture off the original 35mm negative looks fantastic, and I was able to make adjustments and corrections only possible thanks to the incredible digital tools now available,” the filmmaker wrote on Facebook.

Ready for Halloween? So is Max. The streamer just debuted their month-long Halloween and horror movie celebration, dubbed “No Sleep October,” and we’ve got the full list for your perusal.

There’s a batch of A24 horror movies that includes favorites like “Bodies Bodies Bodies” and “Midsommar” alongside new releases “MaXXXine” and “I Saw the TV Glow.”

Timed to the release of Max’s “Salem’s Lot” adaptation from “Anabelle Comes Home” director Gary Dauberman, which debuts on Oct. 3, Max also has a collection of Stephen King movies, including Tobe Hooper’s 1979 mini-series adaptation, “It” and “It: Chapter Two,” “The Shining” and “Doctor Sleep.”

A new breed of creature-features was unleashed in the 1990s and continued well into the next decade. Shaking off the ecological messaging of the past, these monsters existed for the sake of pure mayhem. Just to name a few: Tremors, The Relic, Anaconda, Godzilla, Deep Rising and Lake Placid all showcased this trend of irreverent creature chaos. Reptiles and other scaly beasts proved to be a popular source of inspiration for these films, but for that extra crawly experience, bugs were the best and quickest route. Spiders, in particular, led some of the worst infestations on screen in the early 2000s. And on the underbelly of this creeping new wave — specifically the direct-to-video sector — hangs an overlooked offering of spider horror: Arachnid.

In 2000, Brian Yuzna and Julio Fernández launched the Spanish production company Fantastic Factory. The Filmax banner’s objective was to create modestly budgeted genre films for international distribution.

Of all the masters of horror that helped to reshape the genre as we know it in the ’70s and ’80s, none were more successful in branching out and achieving commercial success within the studio system than Sam Raimi. His Spider-Man trilogy laid the groundwork for the influx of comic book movies that would follow, but he was eager to return to his roots following the third installment’s turbulent production.

Armed with $30 million and complete creative control, Raimi dusted off a story he wrote with elder brother and frequent collaborator Ivan Raimi back in the ’90s to make his triumphant return to horror with Drag Me to Hell in 2009. The Raimi broters seemingly drew inspiration from 1957’s Night of the Demon but injected it with a heavy dose of Evil Dead DNA, most closely evoking Evil Dead 2‘s cartoonish blend of over-the-top splatter and tongue-in-cheek humor.

Final girls in horror movies are a trope of the genre, but the much less common final boy has proven to be an equally interesting concept that deserves more attention. The A Nightmare on Elm Street series started with a bang and ended with a whimper. Created, written, and directed by seminal horror visionary Wes Craven in 1984, the Nightmare series arguably peaked with the third installment, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, a film where Craven returned to the director's chair after abstaining from A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge. But the fourth installment, 1988's A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (directed by Renny Harlin), hadn’t lost the plot. It introduced a fantastic set of new characters and continued to return Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) to his original status as a horrifying force of demonic nature instead of a dispenser of equally horrifying puns. The Adventures of Ford Fairlane is an action comedy with a film noir mystery twist, and while it may be loud and nasty, comedian Andrew Dice Clay's entertaining performance makes it worth watching for fans of crude humor. The original Freddy Krueger glove armour – seen in Wes Craven’s horror classic A Nightmare on Elm Street – has been located and put up for auction by Propstore this week.

This prop has been screen-matched, meaning Propstore was able to verify that it’s the very same metal glove armour and razor blade fingers worn by Robert Englund in the original Nightmare on Elm Street! What do they mean by “glove armour,” you might be wondering?

Propstore notes, “Replica rings have been lightly tacked into the finger interiors to allow the metalwork to be displayed on a replica leather work glove, as the original leather glove is no longer present.”

The latest edition of Fantast Fest is set to commence at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar in Austin, TX, from September 21st – 28th, unleashing a slew of face-melting premieres, cinema celebrations, and live events. August 2023 sees the release of two major football documentaries on HBO and Max. The first is the premiere of Hard Knocks on Aug. 10. The new season of long-running NFL training camp docuseries will center on the New York Jets, new employers of legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers. On Aug. 23, Max will air the aptly named Bs High. The doc tells the stranger-than-fiction story of high school football team Bishop Sycamore, which pulled off one of the more notable sports scams you’re likely to ever hear about.

Not of the football variety but in keeping with the North American sports theme will be season 2 of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty on Aug.

Hard Knock‘s new season focusing on the New York Jets and the second season of the original drama Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty join Max’s August 2023 lineup, along with Tracy Morgan’s latest comedy special. August’s schedule also includes the season finales of And Just Like That… and Warrior.

Rap Sh!t season two premieres on August 10th, and the new half-hour young adult animated series Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake arrives on August 31st.

But instead of pursuing Nancy Thompson (Heather Langenkamp), Freddy now terrorizes the dreams of Jesse (Mark Patton) and his love interest Lisa (Kim Myers), and both actors are more than ready to sign on for another shot at Mr. Krueger.

Original A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) cinematographer Jacques Haitkin passed away last month at the age of 72, we’ve learned via The Hollywood Reporter today.

THR reports, “Haitkin died March 21 in San Francisco after a battle with Als and leukemia, his son Zak Haitkin told The Hollywood Reporter.”

Jacques Haitkin served as the cinematographer/director of photography on both A Nightmare on Elm Street and A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge (1985).

He later reunited with Wes Craven on the horror movie Shocker (1989).

As cinematographer, Haitkin’s credits also include The Prize Fighter, Galaxy of Terror, The House Where Evil Dwells, My Demon Lover, The Hidden, Cherry 2000, Maniac Cop 3: Badge of Silence, Scanner Cop, Fist of the North Star, Bloodsport 2, and Wishmaster.
