Umpteenth version of the Front Page

This umpteenth version of the Front Page story made the quite appropriate adaptation from newspaper journalism to television.

Although the character names have been changed we have no problems identifying the main characters of the Front Page. As in His Girl Friday, Hildy is played by a woman and Kathleen Turner was the ideal choice for this role at the time. Burt Reynolds takes on the Walter Burns character, but he neither has the charm of Cary Grant [His Girl Friday] nor the comic timing of Walter Matthau [Front Page, The (1974)] - but then, who has? The only serious miscasting is Christopher Reeve who just can't match the whimpish Ralph Bellamy.

All in all it's not as good as the previous (excellent) versions, but it is still quite enjoyable. A story with that many remakes normally has a stinker amongst the lot, but this one has not (so far).

In his biography, Christopher Reeve claims this film's failure, along with Superman IV: Em Busca da Paz (1987), O Aviador (1985), and Malandros de Rua (1987), knocked him off the A-list in Hollywood and he would have to audition for major roles for the rest of his career.

Erros de gravação
When Christy is chasing Ike, she loses her shoes and leaves them behind. However, after catching and directing Ike to the news building, Christy is seen entering the building and putting her shoes back on, though she never returned to retrieve them.

However, as the news building is across the field from where Christy tackled Ike, it is likely she retrieved her shoes on the way as she ran to the news building. She wouldn't have stopped to put her shoes back on while running in the grass, but waited until she was on solid footing just before entering the building.
