Netflix Unveils Main Cast for the Terminator Zero Anime

The Terminator Zero anime is set to premiere exclusively on Netflix worldwide on August 29, 2024, exactly 27 years after the all-out war between humans and cyborgs depicted in Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Ahead of the premiere, Netflix has announced the cast for the anime adaptation based on the classic Terminator film franchise.

The cast features several well-known Hollywood names who will bring both new and familiar characters to life in the upcoming sci-fi and action anime.

A sci-fi drama unlike any other, Netflix’s 3 Body Problem provoked a mixture of critical acclaim, fandom buzz and political debate with its rather bold adaptation of author Liu Cixin’s celebrated physics-stuff novel. Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss — coming off HBO’s Game of Thrones — teamed with True Blood writer-producer Alexander Woo on the daunting project, which tells the story of humanity’s reaction to a centuries-spanning alien invasion plot. Across eight episodes, the drama combined lavish spectacle with intimate human drama, earning a two-season renewal from the streamer despite its lavish price tag (more than $20 million per episode). Terminator Zero may fix past franchise mistakes by revisiting events from Terminator 2 in its timeline. The series has the potential to be the true Judgment Day sequel that previous Terminator movies failed to achieve. Considering the failures of Genisys and Dark Fate, Terminator Zero may be better off without John Connor.

Writer-director Joe Maggio didn't mean to take 20 years to make Bliss, the sequel to his 2001 directorial feature debut, Virgil Bliss. In fact, he didn't initially set out to make a sequel at all. Chalking it up to, in his words, "the arrogance of youth," the director had no interest in repeating himself. It's been nearly forty years, but people still remember "The A-Team." The action adventure series went on for five seasons, but stuck around in the public consciousness for much, much longer. People still remember the theme song, the cartoonish violence, the catchphrases. But although many viewers throughout the 2000s wanted a revival of the show, the TV series itself never came back.

Instead, we got a feature film in 2010 starring an updated A-Team, with the characters being veterans of the Iraq War instead of veterans of Vietnam. The film underperformed at the box office, however, and they never made a sequel. “Sex/Life” won’t be seeing a third season at Netflix.

The Netflix dramedy, which became a surprise hit for the streamer upon its series premiere in the summer of 2021, will not extend beyond its second season. A Netflix spokesperson told TheWrap the latest batch of episodes wrapped up the story with a happy ending, allowing the show to have a natural close. They added that the streamer was proud of the work of the producers, cast and crew did on the show’s two seasons.

Having already won a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award for his portrayal of Elvis Presley in “Elvis,” Austin Butler is on a solid path to triumphing on his first Oscar nomination. His film, which covers the entirety of the titular rock star’s two-decade career, boasts a talented cast that includes past Oscar winner Tom Hanks, who collected back-to-back Best Actor trophies for “Philadelphia” (1994) and “Forrest Gump” (1995). He missed out on a supporting bid for “Elvis,” but if Butler clinches the lead award, Hanks will become the 15th man to have acted in a film that won the same Oscar he previously received.

The Golden Trailer Awards, which honor the best trailers in movie and TV/streaming marketing, awarded Paramount’s A Quiet Place: Part II its marquee Best of Show honor Thursday night during a ceremony in Greenville, Tn.

The awards, founded and run by sisters Evelyn Brady-Watters and Monica Brady, returned after pausing for a year because of the Covid pandemic, with last night’s ceremony honoring campaigns and the companies behind them culled from a widened eligibility window for content created between April 2019-April 2021.

Before making Hellraiser: Judgment, filmmaker Gary J. Tunnicliffe had worked as a makeup designer on multiple Hellraiser movies and had a big part to play in the terrifying, otherworldly appearance of the demons that have appeared in the franchise. In an interview with Bloody-disgusting, Tunnifcliffe admitted to feeling hurt by the prospect of a reboot to the franchise happening without him after the years of love and dedication he has shown to the world of Hellraiser.

The Hellraiser franchise's evolution is filled with many hits and misses. 2018's Hellraiser: Judgment by filmmaker and longtime Hellraiser makeup artist Gary J. Tunnicliffe added some interesting new facets to the lore of the franchise in the form of the "Stygian Inquisition", and teased an interesting sequel where Pinhead has lost his position as the Hell Priest and become human again. In an interview with Bloody Disgusting, Tunnicliffe revealed how the sequel would have gone down if circumstanced had allowed it.

That’s the chilling tagline attached to Hellraiser: Judgment, Gary J. Tunnicliffe’s long-awaited horror revival that thrusts Paul T. Taylor into the role of Pinhead, a cold, calculating demon who hails from another dimension.

As the historic 10th entry in the cult horror series, there’s an air of cinematic legacy lingering over Tunnicliffe’s Judgment, and today, Bloody Disgusting has served up a suitably creepy clip of Pinhead plotting his next move, which ends with a shrill, Inception-esque blast of music.
