Mark Dobies, an actor best known for his portrayal as Dr. Noah Chase on “Guiding Light” and District Attorney Daniel Colson on “One Life to Live,” has died. He was just 65 years old.

Born Mark Steven Dobies on April 3, 1959, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the late actor passed away on Tuesday, March 11 in Dunellan, New Jersey, although no official cause of death was announced.

An obituary posted on the Apyre National Cremation Services website notes Dobies was a “loving father, accomplished athlete, and talented actor.”

During his school days, Dobies earned a football scholarship to attend Delaware Valley University (then Delaware Valley College), where he and his teammates won the school its first Middle Atlantic Conference football championship in 1980. He went on to receive a Bachelor of Science from the school, and later a Master of Science from Easter College, with certifications in weight management and as a senior population specialist.

The Red Sonja reboot has secured a distributor with a release window confirmed. That's great news for fans of the comics and sword-and-sandal films.

Signature Entertainment acquired the rights to release the Red Sonja reboot in the UK and Ireland. Per Deadline, the film will premiere in late 2025 after spending two years in post-production. "Red Sonja epitomizes the kind of film we're looking for at Signature – an epic story in a fantasy-laden world with a strong commercial feel to its execution, which made it immediately appealing to us," Signature Entertainment's Acquisitions Manager Begüm Kayacan Parodi said. "We're looking forward to introducing UK and Irish audiences to Matilda Lutz's sword-swinging huntress later this year." Production company Millennium Media is still looking for a distributor for Red Sonja in international markets.

Exclusive: Altered Innocence has picked up all North American rights to Iranian filmmaker Kaveh Daneshmand’s first feature film Endless Summer Syndrome which debuted last year at Tallinn Black Nights before playing Raindance, Goa Iff, and Fantaspoa.

The deal was completed this week in Cannes. Altered Innocence has said they plan to release the film theatrically in late 2024.

Endless Summer Syndrome is a black comedy about a family coming apart at the seams when the mother gets an anonymous call from her husband’s colleague about an alleged affair with one of their adopted children. Daneshman has described the film as “a provocative take on parental responsibility, who, when confronted by their own truths, take risks that lead to dangerous consequences.”

Tom Felton will star in the action sci-fi film Altered, which is about genetic disparity in an alternate present. Harry Potter actor Tom Felton will star in the upcoming $15 million action sci-fi movie Altered. Felton rose to global prominence when he played the role of Harry Potter's nemesis, Draco Malfoy, in the hit movie adaptations of J. K. Rowling's beloved fantasy novels. Surrey-born Felton played the role in all eight Potter movies between 2001 and 2011, and has enjoyed consistent work in film and TV since leaving the franchise, most recently starring in Joel David Moore's 2023 psychological thriller Some Other Woman.

According to Variety, Felton is set to star in Altered, described as an action sci-fi movie that will explore important themes.

"The People's Joker," a once-banned queer Joker parody film, is getting a theatrical release on April 5. The dark-comedy follows Joker the Harlequin, a struggling clown dealing with gender identity in a world where comedy is outlawed. "The People's Joker" was created as a DIY community project for queer artists, featuring over 200 predominantly queer creators.

The People's Joker, the once-banned queer Joker parody film, is getting a theatrical release. Altered Innocence, a Los Angeles-based distributor, has acquired the film's North American distribution rights and has set a premiere date of April 5. The queer coming-of-age story serves as an autobiographical tale of director, editor, co-writer, and star Vera Drew's struggles with mental health and gender identity.

About a decade ago, the team behind the biggest hit of the decade wrote a screenplay for the prequel. It had been a long time coming. In 1999, the shaky-cam horror movie “The Blair Witch Project” grossed nearly $250 million around the world, turning the microbudget chronicle of a few friends who venture into the woods and never returned into an unexpected phenomena. “We had a plan for if it failed, what do with our finances without declaring bankruptcy,” said Eduardo Sanchez, who co-directed with Daniel Myrick. “We didn’t have a plan if it became the highest-grossing independent film of all time.”

The Blair Witch Project was such a phenomenon when it came out that no one really knew how to react to its success. Hollywood wasn't sure if it could replicate it, which is why you didn't see it get a new sequel every year. Not even cowriter/director Eduardo Sánchez had any real idea of what a post-Blair Witch career should look like for him. Box Office Spartans slayed the competition at the box office this weekend, with 300: Rise of an Empire taking in an estimated $45.1 million. Though the sequel, with Noam Murro at the helm in place of Zack Snyder, failed to match 300's opening numbers domestically, it outpaced the original overseas, raking in $87.8 million from 58 markets. Mr. Peabody & Sherman was yet another disappointment for DreamWorks Animation, opening in second with $32.5 million. The movie suffered from family-friendly competition like The Lego Movie, which placed #4 with an additional $10.8 million, and Frozen, which held at #8 with an additional $3 million. Last week's top movie, the Liam Neeson actioner Non-Stop, dropped to #3 with $15.8 million.

Hot off last night’s midnight premiere at SXSW, Lionsgate has acquired the North American distribution rights to the Bigfoot found footage movie Exists.

Exists follows a group of five friends as they struggle to fight off the Bigfoot during a camping trip in the remote Texas woods.

This is very cool news. I been tracking this project for a minute and can’t wait to check it out. For those not in the know Exists was directed by Eduardo Sanchez who co-directed The Blair Witch Project back in the day. Full press release below.

Known predominantly for the massive hit that was The Blair Witch Project (one of the highest-grossing independent films of all time no less), Eduardo Sanchez returns with what is his fourth directorial effort since that films groundbreaking debut and his best movie yet. Now I’ll admit I wasn’t a huge fan of Blair Witch, I enjoyed it for what it was but the obnoxious cast always put me off, however Sanchez’s 2006 directorial follow-up Altered was a stroke of genius that undeservedly shoved out as a direct to DVD release. But now he’s back, surpassing all expectations with Lovely Molly.

The film starts off innocently enough, with the titular Molly (Lodge) and her newlywed husband Tim (Lewis) moving into the old family homestead to start their married life together.

Eduardo Sánchez and Daniel Myrick have had an interesting trajectory. They co-directed The Blair Witch Project thirteen years ago, that “found footage” granddaddy which would prove not only to be an incredible success, but a great inspiration to genre filmmakers a decade later. Love it or hate it, Blair Witch is a milestone whose lasting impact can’t be ignored. While Myrick has made a few Dtv clunkers, Sánchez has managed to make two Dtv gems — Altered, a dark horror-comedy about alien abduction revenge, and Seventh Moon, a hand-held camera honeymoon nightmare in China. Worth checking out. So, how does his latest effort stack up?

Lovely Molly is a film that I knew absolutely nothing about, beyond the fact that it existed, and was directed by Eduardo Sanchez, director of The Blair Witch Project. After festival screenings, and an extremely limited theatrical run, opinions varied greatly.
