This is the best Chinese fantasy epic movie I've ever seen. With top-notch script, nice visual effects, and most importantly, full respect for the ancient wisdom in the collective imagination of folklore and myths, it depicts a tragic picture of human beings, deities and demons at the time of change. Despite that the picture is huge, the way the storyteller walk us through it is quite personal. It landed on the dilemma of a teenager who was asked by the monarch to kill his father. His responsibility as a son, a loyal guard of king, and as an individual conflicts with each other, keeping him in misery and forcing him to make a final decision. Therefore, in spite of the ancient Chinese setting, it has the power to touch people from another culture background. I believe people around the globe will like it as much as they like the Game of Thrones.
