Jason Statham, not one to spend a lot of time not kicking ass, is back with another ass-kicking action flick. Amazon MGM has released the first trailer for "A Working Man," which was previously going under the title of "Levon's Trade." The big appeal here is that Statham has reunited with director David Ayer, who was at the helm of last year's actioner "The Beekeeper." Othello, one of the greatest tragedy tales by William Shakespeare, is all set to return to the stages once again through Broadway. Set in Venice and Cyprus, it is widely regarded among the mastermind author’s major tragedies as it brings about the titular Moorish military commander’s story as he is manipulated by his ensign, Iago, into suspecting his wife Desdemona of infidelity.

Of course, as famous as it is, there have been innumerable other iterations of this play over the years. Multiple different star-studded actors have joined the cast of the same, and given epic performances that they continue to be renowned for. ABC has released the trailer for Ryan Murphy’s new nautical medical drama “Doctor Odyssey” — starring Joshua Jackson — which premieres Sept. 26 and will be available on Hulu the following day.

According to the official logline, “Doctor Odyssey” Jackson plays Max, the “new on-board doctor for a luxury cruise ship where the staff works hard and plays harder. It’s all-hands-on-deck as Max and his small but mighty medical team navigate unique medical crises and each other, miles from shore.”

Other cast members include Sean Teale, Don Johnson and Phillipa Soo.

Murphy serves as writer and executive producer with director Paris Barclay, Jackson, Johnson, Eric Paquette, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson and Nissa Diederich. “Doctor Odyssey” is produced by 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television.

Annette Bening, who recently starred in Netflix’s biopic “Nyad,” will receive a special Golden Medallion tribute award from the Telluride Film Festival on Jan. 6, 2024. Meg Ryan will present the award to her at Netflix’s Tudum Theater in Los Angeles. The event will also feature a conversation focused on her career trajectory, which Bening’s “Nyad” co-star Jodie Foster will moderate.

Due to the actors strike, Bening was unable to accept the honor at the Telluride Film Festival in September, marking the first time Telluride has presented an honor outside of the dates of the festival. Previous Golden Medallion recipients include Cate Blanchett, Anthony Hopkins and Kate Winslet.

Lyricist and composer Paul Williams will be honored by the 13th annual Guild of Music Supervisors awards with the 2023 Icon award at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles on March 5. Exclusive: Eugenio Derbez and Ben Odell’s 3Pas Studios (Acapulco) has signed a multi-year first-look deal with ABC Signature for English-language TV content.

As part of the deal, 3Pas will develop and produce English-language projects for the studio. Reporting to Derbez and Odell, Sonia Gambaro, the VP of 3Pas’ English-language TV division, will oversee development, identify and source talent, ideas, and IP for ABC Signature across all platforms.

Disney’s Encanto and Hulu’s Love, Victor were the big winners at the 2022 Imagen Awards, held Sunday at La Plaza de Cultura y Artes in downtown Los Angeles.

Encanto was named best feature film and Love, Victor was a repeat winner for best primetime comedy at the 37th annual awards, which were established in 1985 from a suggestion by veteran television producer Norman Lear to encourage and recognize positive portrayals of Latinos in the media. Today, The Imagen Foundation aims to serve as a bridge between the Latino community and the entertainment industry in providing access, education, and resources for Latinos in the industry, as well as those seeking careers in entertainment.

Eugenio Derbez is developing the workplace comedy series They Came At Night with ViX+ under the first-look deal between 3Pas Studios and TelevisaUnivision.

They Came At Night is inspired by true events and it gives a behind-the-scenes look at the group of underdogs who went on to create the critically acclaimed Spanish version of the 1930 horror classic, Dracula. While Bela Lugosi filmed Dracula during the day on the Universal lot, at the end of each day another cast and crew arrived to make the same exact movie… only in Spanish. Using the same sets, costumes, and a translated version of the script, the cast and crew of the Spanish Dracula filmed from dusk to dawn, and, against all odds, the critical consensus is that the Spanish version turned out to be the better film.

Eugenio Derbez will explore a lesser-known aspect of Hollywood history with his latest TV project.

The actor and producer (Apple TV+’s Acapulco, How to Be a Latin Lover) will star in and executive produce a comedy with the working title They Came at Night, which is in development at TelevisaUnivision’s streaming platform Vix+. The project is a workplace show about the cast and crew who made a Spanish-language version of Dracula in 1930 — filming at night and using the same sets and costumes as Tod Browning’s English-language version.

“I have not worked in scripted Spanish language TV comedy for well over ten years and was looking for something really special to come back,” Derbez said in a statement. “This story really jumped out at me because it tells the story of Latinos always having to accomplish more with less resources and harder conditions.

Samara Weaving, Eric Dane and Ray Nicholson will star in Jimmy Warden’s “Borderline,” a new comedic thriller that is currently in production in Vancouver. The film centers around a helplessly romantic sociopath who escapes from a mental institution and invades the home of a ’90s pop superstar. He just wants to be loved; she just wants to survive.

“Borderline” marks the directorial debut of Warden, who also wrote the film, which appeared on the Black List, a highly-regarded annual survey of the most-liked scripts.

Eugenio Derbez had to undergo a “long and complicated surgery” following an undisclosed accident. His wife Alessandra Rosaldo is now updating fans following the medical intervention.

“To everyone that have been looking out for Eugenio, I want to inform you that fortunately, after a long and complicated surgery, he is recovering,” the actor and singer said in a statement posted on Instagram.

Rosaldo went on to explain that the day of the surgery “was a very long day with many emotions.” However, what made them get through it was the “countless signs of affection, messages, good wishes, blessings and prayers” that made “the surgery a success.”

West Side Story, Encanto and In the Heights are among the nominations for the 37th annual Imagen Awards, which recognize work by Latino talent, new faces and seasoned creatives.

“After two years of streaming celebrations, we are ecstatic to be back in person and to honor those who made significant contributions to the television, film and streaming spaces,” What We Do in the Shadows star Harvey Guillén, who presented the nominees, said. “With the caliber of talent and the diversity of the roles and projects, our expectations were wildly exceeded with 445 entries, up 125 from 2021! Exclusive: Fox has given a straight-to-series order to Animal Control, a single-camera workplace comedy from The Moodys co-creators Bob Fisher and Rob Greenberg, Dan Sterling (Long Shot) and Fox Entertainment Studios. Animal Control, slated for a midseason launch, marks Fox Entertainment Studios’ first fully owned live-action comedy. (Fox’s first fully owned comedy series overall is Dan Harmon’s upcoming animated series Krapopolis.)

Animal Control, which had been heating up for a pickup, was developed as part of Fox’s script-to-series model. Three scripts have been written, and casting is set to begin immediately.

The latest development comes as competition continues to heat up in the region and more deep-pocketed players, led by streaming giants Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Apple Plus, seek to further boost their subscriptions.

The bundle, offered in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru on Disney Plus and Star Plus websites, will offer subscriptions to all three streaming services with one price in the local currency. Subscribers will need to download each platform’s app onto their compatible devices to access their programming.

Getting movies made in Hollywood is never easy. But considering he’s the writer, director and star of the highest-grossing Spanish-language film ever made, it would be fair to expect that the path to high-profile projects would be a bit more straightforward than Eugenio Derbez has experienced.

Derbez, who established himself with Mexican sitcoms in the early 2000s, broke out at the box office in a major way with 2013’s Instructions Not Included, the comedy he co-wrote, helmed and stars in as a playboy who has to suddenly care for his 6-year-old daughter. Actress Diany Rodriguez can be seen in two wildly different roles this month.

Rodriguez is best known as Weecha, the new, no-nonsense bodyguard for Raymond “Red” Reddington on NBC's The Blacklist.

She also appears in the Netflix rom-com The Valet, where she portrays Natalie, a bike-shop owner and community activist fighting gentrification. This role, Rodriguez says, is closest to herself of any that she has played.

Rodriguez took time out recently to talk in an exclusive interview with TV Fanatic about those two roles, as well as her transition from theater to film and her community activism.

Hulu has launched a new offer for its ad-supported tier for National Streaming Day.

Starting Friday, new and eligible returning subscribers can sign up for the streamer’s ad-supported plan for 1 a month for three months. The regular price is 6.99 a month.

The ad-supported plan offers users access to Hulu’s streaming library, which features “Only Murders in the Building.” That series returns to Hulu Tuesday, June 28 with the premiere of its second season.

Other new Hulu Originals include, “Conversations with Friends,” “The Kardashians,” “Candy,” starring Jessica Biehl, and the film “The Valet.”
