Jamie Campbell Bower and Eddie Marsan are about to get in the ring...of power, that is. The acclaimed British actors are no strangers to fantasy and genre fare, given the former's time on Stranger Things and the latter's time appearing in, well, seemingly everything else, but neither have played in the acclaimed and beloved universe of author J. R. R. Tolkien — until now.
That's right, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has upped the star power ante in season three, tapping Bower and Marsan to join the cast for the series' next installment. The Harry Potter reboot series was announced in April 2023, and since then, Warner Bros. Discovery has made great progress. Set to start filming this summer, a cast announcement is imminent.
The film series adaptation of J.K. Rowling's seven novels was massively successful, but there were many characters, scenes, and details from the book that didn't make it to the big screen. The only way to make any money in Hollywood today is to luck into a franchise you can run into the ground, but when you have to keep the same story going in perpetuity, it’s easy to write yourself into a corner. Sometimes, you have to step back until you body slam enough audience members that they’ve completely forgotten everything that’s come before.

After this performance in one of Netflix's hit shows, I am so sad we did not get more of one Harry Potter backstory in the original movies. The Wizarding World films have had quite the history as the movies both successfully and unsuccessfully detail the story of Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) and the larger world of witchcraft and wizardry surrounding his battles with Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes). These films will always have a special place in my own heart and in the hearts of fans, even if some aspects of those films could and should have been expanded on.
While there may be many an initial problem with the Harry Potter TV show, there is no denying the opportunity it presents to showcase parts of Hogwarts that the films did not touch on. Some book details were sprinkled into the films, but I think several of them were worth exploring more,...

David Fincher said he met with Warner Bros. to hash out ideas for the Harry Potter films. His pitch was far from the coming-of-age drama the studio wanted.
David Fincher would have added a Harry Potter to his eclectic filmography if Warner Bros. hired him. Speaking to Variety, the Gone Girl director said he had a very distinct concept for his Harry Potter film. "I was asked to come in and talk to them about how I would do Harry Potter," he confirmed. "I remember saying, 'I just don't want to do the clean Hollywood version of it. I want to do something that looks a lot more like Withnail and I, and I want it to be kind of creepy.'" A cult classic, Withnail and I is largely considered one of the all-time best British films.

For months now, Kick-Ass and Bullet Train star Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been rumored for the role of James Bond, with the Kraven the Hunter the favorite to take over from Daniel Craig following 2021’s No Time to Die. But, has the critical and financial failure of his Sony and Marvel outing hurt his chances? Maybe, as a new favorite has now emerged...and he could be fantastic.
According to the betting site Coral, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald star Callum Turner has seen his odds halved from 4-1 to 2-1, meaning there’s now far more chance that he could be the next actor chosen to sport the iconic tuxedo. Best known for roles in the Harry Potter spin-off franchise, as well as Green Room, Assassin’s Creed, and the acclaimed television series Masters of the Air, Turner certainly fits the criteria as laid out by longtime 007 producers Barabara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.

The Harry Potter novels and their movie adaptations have become one of the biggest pop culture phenomena since their release. The movie series even spawned a spinoff, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, though with a lesser degree of success. Despite the original movie series ending over a decade ago, Harry Potter is still considered one of the best and most profitable franchises of all time. Harry Potter fans continue to watch the movies and read the books today, keeping the magic alive.
The Harry Potter saga resonates with fans due to its themes of bravery and sacrifice, the growth and development of its characters, and the incredible world-building of a magical universe. Fortunately for fans of the Harry Potter franchise, all of these elements can be found in other popular television series.

Auliʻi Cravalho and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s reunion as the beloved Moana and Maui dropped a drastic 63% between its first and second weekends, but still managed to claim the No. 1 spot. A trio of blockbusters — “Moana 2,” “Wicked” and “Gladiator II” — are fueling a record-breaking Thanksgiving bounty.
Overall domestic box office receipts between Wednesday and Sunday amounted to $420 million, the biggest Thanksgiving haul in history. It obliterated the previous benchmark of $315 million, set by 2018’s slate of “Ralph Breaks the Internet,” “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” and “Creed II.” Since the pandemic, though, Turkey Day has been all famine and no feast at the box office. Disney’s “Moana 2” cemented a new Thanksgiving box office record with $225 million over the five-day holiday frame, obliterating the previous high-water marks set by 2019’s “Frozen II” ($125 million) and 2013’s “Hunger Games: Catching Fire” ($109 million). It also stands as the biggest five-day debut in history, overtaking Universal’s 2023 behemoth “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” ($205.6 million). The film’s three-day tally of $139.7 million registers as the best start for Walt Disney Animation ahead of “Frozen II” ($130.2 million the weekend prior to Thanksgiving). Ticket sales for the “Moana” sequel were higher than Sunday’s estimates of $135.5 million over the traditional weekend $221 million over the five-days and far above early projections of $135 million to $145 million.
“‘Moana 2’ has far surpassed our high expectations this weekend and is a testament to the phenomenon that ‘Moana’ has become,” Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman said in a statement.

“Moana 2” is expected to make waves at the box office over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
The sequel to Disney’s musical hit “Moana” opens in 4,200 North American theaters on Wednesday and is projected to collect between $135 million to $145 million in its first five days of release. Those ticket sales would register as the biggest Thanksgiving frame, overtaking 2019’s Disney sequel “Frozen II” ($125 million over the five days) and 2013’s “Hunger Games: Catching Fire” ($109 million over the five days).
“Moana” will also swim to screens at the international box office, where it’s pacing to add an additional $100 million and would bring the global tally to $235 million. Based on presales and buzz, the animated adventure is primed to be another 2024 theatrical smash for Disney following the mega successes of June’s “Inside Out 2” ($1.6 billion) and July’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” ($1.3 billion). As Ridley Scott and his high-profile Gladiator II cast — including Denzel Washington, Paul Mescal and Connie Nielsen — walked the red carpet during the Nov. 18 Los Angeles premiere, a makeshift wall prevented them from seeing an enormous Christmas tree perched at the entrance of the Ovation Hollywood mall adjacent to the Tcl Chinese Theatre.
Consider it a symbol of Christmas coming early this year for all of Hollywood as November tentpoles Gladiator II, the musical Wicked and the animated juggernaut Moana 2 hit the big screen timed to Turkey Day. “For the first time in a long time, there will be something for everyone at movie theaters this Thanksgiving,” notes one top studio executive. “When there are great choices, the business hums.”
By all accounts, the three films are expected to fuel the biggest Thanksgiving weekend in history in terms of overall revenue, a rare bright spot in the post-pandemic era.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is flagging, but Jude Law's recent comments signpost a way forward. Emerging in 2016 with the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie, the franchise confirmed itself as a tender and humorous spinoff series based on Harry Potter. This initial movie was followed by 2018's Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and 2022's Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. Despite the success of the first movie in the franchise, follow-ups struggled at the box office due to a Johnny Depp controversy and convoluted plots, but Jude Law, who says there's enough story for Fantastic Beasts 4, flagged a solution for future outings.
Law masterfully portrays a young Albus Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts movies, joining Richard Harris and Michael Gambon, both sadly deceased, in the pantheon of brilliant Dumbledore actors. While Harris portrayed Dumbledore in the first two Harry Potter movies and Gambon...

When the Harry Potter franchise was at its peak, it was considered one of the best-written YA fantasy series. Fans loved the lore and worldbuilding of the series and yearned for more. Once the series came to an end with the final film's release in 2011, fans were joyful when more lore was revealed through the Pottermore website, which provided backstories and notes that weren't included in the novels or films. Even more additions and changes to the canon came in the form of the Fantastic Beasts films, the Cursed Child play, and tweets from the author.
However, as time went on, many of these retroactive additions to the lore were met with confusion, disappointment, and even controversy. For even the most dedicated Harry Potter fans, the new information given by author J.K. Rowling left much to be desired. With HBO's Harry Potter remake in the works, many have wondered whether...

Jude Law expresses optimism regarding Fantastic Beasts 4 happening after the franchise was seemingly shelved. Hoping to capitalize on the popularity and success of the Harry Potter franchise, the first Fantastic Beasts spinoff was released in 2016 to generally positive reception. Though originally intended to serve as a five-part saga, the following two movies, released in 2018 and 2022, weren't as warmly received, and the disappointing box office performance of the latter seemingly put plans for Fantastic Beasts 4 on ice.
Law, who played a younger version of Dumledore in the second and third films, now shares a more positive outlook on a potential Fantastic Beasts 4 during a recent interview with GQ. While there are no plans to bring another installment to life at the moment, Law expresses interest in reprising his role. After all, he explains, Dumledore's story isn't yet over. Check out Law's comment below:
Ill just wait until I get the phone call.

The upcoming Harry Potter reboot series in the works at HBO might have found its Dumbledore. If the reported casting pans out, it would mark the first name to be added to the anticipated series.
Per Variety, Oscar-winning actor Mark Rylance is leading the casting wish list to play Dumbledore in the Harry Potter series. Reportedly, Rylance has been approached to gauge his interest but has not yet entered negotiations, so this is still far from a done deal. In response to the report, an HBO rep said in a statement, "We appreciate that such a high profile series will draw a lot of rumor and speculation. As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalize deals.

Chris Hemsworth and Jason Momoa become pirates and join Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow in fan-made Pirates of the Caribbean 6 art. The Fantastic Beasts cast reunited for The Secrets of Dumbledore, bringing the story of magizoologist Newt Scamander more in line with the story of Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald. The franchise seemed headed toward the legendary battle between the great wizards, which people spoke about in awe decades later. The Fantastic Beasts franchise is set in the 1920s and tells the story of Newt and his friends as they encounter great danger during an era where Grindelwald attempted a widespread attack on the Muggle world.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore picks up after the events of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Leta Lestrange is dead, sacrificing herself to save the Scamander brothers, and Queenie changes her allegiance to work alongside Grindelwald. Things are relatively dire for Newt and his friends, who Albus Dumbledore once again recruits to stop Grindelwald from doing something drastic in a bid for more power.

There were many Gellert Grindelwald actors throughout the Harry Potter franchise, especially as Fantastic Beasts brought him into the spotlight. Each iteration of the infamous wizard Gellert Grindelwald has been wildly different from the other, with each actor bringing their distinctive flavor to the role. Gellert Grindelwald is mentioned a few times throughout the Harry Potter books. However, his first official introduction was as an old "friend" hidden in Dumbledores past in the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows book.
It is revealed that Grindelwald and Dumbledore were extremely close in the past and planned to bring the Wizarding World out of the shadows and subdue the non-magical population. Dumbledore realizes the error in this plan and, after the death of his sister Ariana, distances himself from Grindelwald. Grindelwald went ahead with his plan but was eventually stopped by Dumbledore in a grand duel. This backstory was explored in Fantastic Beasts,...

To paraphrase Wesley Snipes as Blade in this summer’s blockbuster “Deadpool & Wolverine”: There’s only one “Barbenheimer.” There’s only ever gonna be one “Barbenheimer.”
Hollywood might never replicate the je ne sais quoi that prompted the explosion of “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” double features, turning the box office battle between two very different films into a once-in-a-generation cinematic event. But multiplex owners are hoping that “Wicked” and “Gladiator II” achieve something close as the pink-and-green musical and the Colosseum-set action epic land in theaters on Nov. 22.
“It won’t happen in the same way, but the conversation around ‘Wicked’ and ‘Gladiator’ is reminiscent of ‘Barbenheimer,’” says Shawn Robbins, Fandango’s director of movie analytics. “They’re fueling each other.”
Whether or not “Glicked” is the second coming of “Barbenheimer,” there’s mounting pressure on Thanksgiving movies — Disney’s “Moana 2” swims to the big screen on Nov.

Five years after the original Harry Potter series ended in 2011, author J.K. Rowling announced plans for a five-film spin-off prequel based on the Hogwarts manual Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The new series encountered many hiccups and only three films were released.
The new series was nowhere near as successful as Harry Potter, and Jude Law, who plays Albus Dumbledore, has just addressed the franchise's future in an interview with Variety. The first film, released in 2016, was successful but, as it starred Johnny Depp as the villain, it led to many controversies, and eventually led to his replacement with Mads Mikkelsen in the third film. The last installment, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, came out in 2022 and there are no details about how the series will go on.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was just as entrenched in dark and serious subject matter as the rest of the Harry Potter franchise. However, when it comes to the film adaptations of the beloved books, there are aspects of the lore and world-building that were cut in the screen iterations. For the most part, the Harry Potter movies are successful at touching upon all the most important parts of character development. Despite this, there are still some gaps, like the lack of backstory surrounding the series' antagonist, Lord Voldemort.
Since Fantastic Beasts 4 is canceled, as well as the planned fifth installment of the series, there are many holes left in its story, but it's ultimately unsurprising that the films were scrapped. Fantastic Beasts never reached the heights of popularity as the original Harry Potter movies, and though the spinoffs took place within the same world, they weren't as compelling,...

Albus Dumbledore is one of the most iconic characters in the Harry Potter franchise, but the Dumbledore actor changed part way through the movie series. Dumbledore was played by Michael Gambon in six movies and Jude Law in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them spin-offs, but was initially portrayed by Irish actor Richard Harris in the first two Harry Potter films. When the role was initially being cast, actors Patrick McGoohan and Sean Connery were targeted for the part. Harris was eventually chosen as Dumbledore and was expected to play the part throughout the entire film franchise.
Harris initially hesitated to take the role due to his health, but the actor was encouraged by his young granddaughter. The actor perfectly embodied the exceptional wizard and Harry's mentor in the franchise's first two installments. But before the release of Chamber of Secrets in November 2002, Harris' health took a turn for the worse.

As the Wizarding World franchise continues to grow, the complete Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts movies order becomes more complex. J.K. Rowling's magical novels became one of Hollywood's biggest franchises throughout the 2000s. Audiences watched eight movies centered around Daniel Radcliffe's Harry Potter that showed his ascension through Hogwarts and pivotal role in defeating Voldemort. The eight Harry Potter films were followed by a prequel series, Fantastic Beasts, and is now going to be expanded further by a reboot TV series.
The Fantastic Beasts movies kicked off in 2016 with Eddie Redmayne's magizoologist Newt Scamander taking the lead role. The prequel series was originally rather disconnected from the main Harry Potter movies, but that changed dramatically with its sequels, as Grindelwald gained a bigger role, a young Albus Dumbledore appeared, and more connective tissue formed. The series was originally intended to be five movies long, but following actor...

The planned fourth installment of the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them series may never see the light of day, leaving some storylines unresolved. A prequel series to the Harry Potter books and movies, Fantastic Beasts follows magizoologist and bestselling author Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) who uses his knowledge of various magical creatures in the brewing conflict against the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp/Mads Mikkelsen). While the first movie was a wonderful addition to the Wizarding World, Fantastic Beasts has seen a steady decline in quality with each new installment.

Gary Oldman recently revealed who he thinks should play Dumbledore in the Harry Potter TV show, and his casting idea may just be perfect. More than a decade after the Harry Potter film franchise ended, HBO announced that they would be making a Harry Potter television series. Allegedly, the TV show is being made to be more accurate to the books than the movies were. However, just like the original franchise, the new Harry Potter show will follow a cast of young actors who audiences will get to see grow up on screen as Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
One of the big questions surrounding the Harry Potter TV show is who will be in it. Notably, the Harry Potter movies had large casts of incredible British actors, from Maggie Smith and Alan Rickman to Imelda Staunton and Michael Gambon. In this way, it will be difficult for HBO's Harry Potter...
