Hallmark is known for having a pretty reliable stable of artists. Once an actor has starred in one of the many Hallmark Christmas movies out there, chances are, you'll start to see them over and over again. In fact, there are a small class of actors who can eke out a reliable living solely through their appearances in holiday films. Especially for a channel like Hallmark, which goes into sicko mode every fall, churning out dozens of Christmas movies to round out their calendar for the last few months of the year.
Aside from familiar faces, sometimes Hallmark manages to score an actor who is more well-known for their career outside of the holiday film ouevre. Often, they make little pit stops between other projects -- sometimes they're content with a one-off appearance, other times they're assimilated into the Hallmark family, taking on more holiday films afterwards.

“Magazine Dreams” is turning the page.
The drama, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2023, quickly became one of the most buzzed-about films at the festival and was promptly acquired by Searchlight Pictures. But after its star Jonathan Majors was found guilty of assault and harassment, the studio dropped the movie from its release schedule. It was initially thought of as a potential Oscar powerhouse, especially for Majors’ towering lead performance.
Now, Briarcliff Entertainment, which is releasing the similarly hot-button Donald Trump movie “The Apprentice” later this month, has acquired the rights to “Magazine Dreams.” Briarcliff is planning an early 2025 release.
The film is the directorial debut of writer Elijah Bynum, who recently co-wrote Lee Daniels’ Netflix horror movie “The Deliverance.” It follows a bodybuilder (Majors) who slips into a world of obsession and violence in his quest for body perfection. The movie also stars Haley Bennett, Taylour Paige,...

Jonathan Majors has become a controversial figure over the past year, and it has greatly affected his career. After several brands dropped him as an endorser, Marvel Studios immediately fired him as soon as he was found guilty.
Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror
He played Kang the Conqueror, one of the most highly anticipated villains in the history of the MCU. When asked how he got the coveted role, Majors claimed he did not even break a sweat. Indeed, no audition happened.
How Jonathan Majors Snagged Kang The Conqueror Role
Speaking with Total Film via Twitter, actor Jonathan Majors shared he joined the MCU without going through tryouts. He believed the studio bosses probably saw a performance of his that sparked their interest, though he could not ascertain which film it was.
“I guess after The Last Black Man in San Francisco. I can’t say it was that film at all.

The past is never really gone. Memories can invade the mind, feeling as immediate as the present. Moving on from past pain is a constant journey. In Titus Kaphar’s debut feature “Exhibiting Forgiveness,” the struggle of moving on plagues a successful painter trying to live in the present with his family. Tarrell (André Holland) is harried by memories of his abusive father, La’Ron (John Earl Jelks), including nightmares about their time together. He wakes up angry and violent, scaring his wife, Aisha (Andra Day). Despite their beautiful home and darling son, Tarrell can’t seem to settle. His success can’t heal the wounds of his childhood.
This trauma inspires new, deeply personal paintings that beg for their own gallery show. But Tarrell doesn’t know how he feels about the work, and Aisha — who is a singer-songwriter — wants to return to the studio and focus on her own art.

The technology of cinematography has undergone some of the most seismic shifts in film history this century, with what began in the 2000s as an almost entirely photochemical process transforming into the digitally captured, manipulated, and projected images of today. The art of cinematography, however — using light, color, and texture to express ideas and elicit emotional reactions from the audience — remains intact.
In 2017, IndieWire made a list of the best shot feature films of the century thus far; the list was updated in 2020, and what follows is the third and most extensive version of the list. It’s also the first to be spearheaded by the IndieWire Craft team, which has grown considerably since this list was first published. Ranking cinematography is, in some ways, a fool’s errand given the broad variety of genres, resources, and intentions encompassed by the films below, but these are 60 titles that IndieWire believes...

Jonathan Majors is having a great year on screen. The actor began his film and TV career just five years ago, but this month alone, he's starred in two number-one movies at the box office. After making a name for himself as a poetic supporting character in "The Last Black Man in San Francisco," taking on the main role in HBO's "Lovecraft Country," and appearing in films like "Da 5 Bloods" and "Devotion," Majors added some major franchises to his repertoire. He can currently be spotted going head to head with Michael B. Jordan in "Creed III," as well as making his big-screen Marvel debut as Kang the Conquerer in "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania."
Both of Majors' 2023 performances to date have earned him praise from critics and fans, but by the time the next award cycle runs around, the actor's name could be on the tip of everyone's tongue...

Hot on the heels of a historic opening weekend for “Creed III,” Jonathan Majors has set his next movie with Amazon Studios, titled “Da Understudy.”
Majors will star in and produce the film, under his Tall Street Productions banner, partnering with Westbrook Studios and Amazon. The project tells the story of “life imitating art when the understudy of a Broadway production finds a role he’s willing to kill for.”
Tom Hamada, Zach Stauss and Tyler Cole wrote the screenplay, which is based on an original story by Cole and developed in-house by Westbrook. Amazon Studios landed the script on spec in a competitive situation.

Like many film fans, Tessa Thompson first noticed her “Creed III” co-star Jonathan Majors during the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, when he co-starred in Joe Talbot’s luminous feature debut “The Last Black Man in San Francisco” alongside Jimmie Fails. She was taken with him from the start, and eager to work with the rising star.

Jonathan Majors is opening up about the impact his father’s absence has had on his life.
The actor, who rose to prominence in 2019’s “The Last Black Man in San Francisco”, grew up poor and his family, at times, were briefly homeless. His father left when he was young, leaving Majors without a dad for most of his life. But, the 33-year-old revealed that his journey to fame and success wasn’t fuelled by his past, noting there’s no “insta-trauma.”
“I have no moment in my life where I go: That’s what I pull from all the time,” Majors told the Associated Press in a recent interview. “I was afraid of that in drama school. My dad just vanished when I was 9 years old.”

Jonathan Majors has been an actor on the rise during the last several years, popping up in offbeat studio films like "Hostiles," "White Boy Rick" and "Captive State" before making a splash in "The Last Black Man in San Francisco" and HBO's gone-too-soon series "Lovecraft Country." It's on the strength of his work in those films and shows that Marvel Studios hired him to anchor the next phase of their Cinematic Universe as Kang the Conqueror, a villain who's currently mixing it up with Ant-Man in the recent "Quantumania," and he continues to play challenging characters elsewhere, such as in the upcoming "Magazine Dreams."
Now he's poised to demonstrate his considerable range once again with his performance as Damian Anderson in "Creed III." In the film, Damian is a man who's grown up within the prison system while his old buddy, Adonis Creed, has risen to greatness in the boxing ring,...

Chicago – The highly anticipated “Creed III,” opening March 3rd, continues the “Rocky Universe” story of Adonis Creed, son of Rocky Balboa nemesis Apollo Creed. In this latest chapter Adonis is challenged by a childhood friend named Damian (Jonathan Majors), freed from prison with a score to settle.
Damian Anderson was a fellow juvenile detention brother to Adonis, before the troubled son of Apollo was taken off the streets by Mama Creed (Phylicia Rashad). Damian served 18 years for a gun situation that involved Adonis, and “Dame” was the Golden Gloves champion who never got his shot. When he emerges from prison, he expects Adonis to give him that shot, and eventually they face off where they should have been years before … in the boxing ring. Tessa Thompson also reprises her role as Bianca Taylor, the singing star wife of Adonis.

Jonathan Majors’ career is about to enter a new level with the release of “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.” Majors stars as Kang the Conquerer, the new Thanos-sized villain of the Marvel Cinematic Universe whose arc will extend all the way through at least 2025’s “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.” But Majors revealed in a new interview with Vanity Fair that his Marvel career could’ve ended before it began after he decided to walk out of his first general meeting with the studio.
“I hope this doesn’t bite me in the ass, but I walked out of my Marvel general [meeting],” Majors said. “This was a long time ago. I had just gotten out of drama school and I’m running around town and I’m sitting in the office. I grew up in a very particular way and I don’t want to waste nobody’s time. So I...

Already 2023 is shaping up to be the year of Jonathan Majors. The actor's rise these past few years has been nothing short of meteoric, and with three films poised to premiere in back-to-back consecutive months, his star is all but cemented in Hollywood. Majors credits his success to a series of shrewd choices at the beginning of his career, a time that's decidedly tough for young actors. It can be easy to give into the lure of a project when you're a starving artist — to work just for the sake of saying you're working, regardless of the quality of the project — but Majors has always been choosy with that sort of thing.
Even in the early days of his career, Majors rarely felt pressure to say yes. "Maybe that's my Texas confidence, but I always said no," the actor recently told Ebony. It's never been about the path of least...

Editor’s Note: This review was originally published during the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. Briarcliff Entertainment releases “Magazine Dreams” in theaters on Friday, March 21.
When “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” arrives in theaters next month, millions of movie-goers are going to get very hip, very fast to the incredible talents of actor Jonathan Majors, who kicks off what is currently set as a three-movie run in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the February sequel. Stragglers can catch him in March when he costars in Michael B. Jordan’s “Creed III.” Everyone else — the people who have known and loved him since “The Last Black Man in San Francisco” or “Lovecraft Country” or even the recent “Devotion” — will just have to share him with the late-comers.
And Majors is, no pun intended, a major star already, and one clearly driven to take big-time risks, as he’s done with Elijah Bynum’s “Magazine Dreams,...

Samara Weaving has lined up her latest genre project, and hopefully, it'll be less of a bloodbath than 2019's "Ready Or Not." No, actually, I take that back — Samara Weaving kicked butt in that hilarious horror flick, and it would be great to see her gear up for another fight to the death. Weaving is already set to appear in the upcoming sixth "Scream" movie, which will reunite her with "Ready Or Not" directors Tyler Gillett and Mat Bettinelli-Olpin, so why not double down and put her survivalist skills to the test? While her upcoming film isn't quite ticking the horror box, it certainly veers into very familiar territory by telling the story of a woman just barely evading tense circumstances to survive.
Variety reports that Weaving will take center stage in a new comedic thriller, currently in production in Vancouver. Titled "Borderline," the film follows a "helplessly romantic sociopath...

Genre regular Samara Weaving has a role in Scream 6, which just recently finished filming – and she’s already hard at work on another genre project, the comedic thriller Borderline. Variety reports that Borderline is currently filming in Vancouver, with The Babysitter: Killer Queen writer Jimmy Warden at the helm, making his feature directorial debut.
Warden’s Borderline script, which was once featured on the Black List, centers on
a helplessly romantic sociopath who escapes from a mental institution and invades the home of a ’90s pop superstar. He just wants to be loved; she just wants to survive.
Weaving is joined in the cast by Eric Dane (Euphoria), Ray Nicholson (Something from Tiffany’s), Alba Baptista (Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris), and Jimmie Fails (The Last Black Man in San Francisco).

Without question, one of the most striking and gorgeous directorial debuts of the last few years was filmmaker Joe Talbot’s Sundance-adored picture “The Last Black Man in San Francisco,” starring Jonathan Majors. A24 released that picture, and given all the acclaim, it’s no surprise the indie studio is backing his follow-up sophomore effort. According to Variety, the film is based on the novel “The Governesses” by French author Anne Serre with Talbot co-writing the movie with poet-novelist Olivia Gatwood.

If the lack of steamy sex scenes in "Bridgerton" season two left you parched, Joe Talbot's new A24 movie, "The Governesses," is here to quench your thirst. The movie, which is Talbot's sophomore film after 2019's "The Last Black Man in San Francisco", will star "Wolf's" Lily-Rose Depp, "Squid Game's" HoYeon," and "The Worst Person in the World's" Renate Reinsve as three French nannies who decide to let loose and explore their sexualities.
The announcement comes shortly after the independent entertainment company released its upcoming horror film, "X," in March and shared details for an intended prequel film, "Pearl." On March 23, the company also released the trailer for "Men," another horror flick set in the English countryside. With so many dark projects in the works, A24's "The Governesses" sounds like the perfect palate cleanser.

Last July, after much speculation and rumor, Jonathan Majors entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a big way – appearing in the season finale of “Loki” as He Who Remains, setting up a whole new chapter for the MCU. He is now formally confirmed to appear next as Kang the Conqueror, a variant of He Who Remains, in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.”
On this week’s episode of Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast, Majors reveals that though he had to keep the secret for around seven months, it wasn’t that hard for him. “I don’t really talk to people much,” he says. “I just keep my head down.” Though he does admit that it feels kind of “biblical” at times. “You got this little secret, you feel like Mary.”

Over the next two years, Jonathan Majors will play a cowboy, a flyboy, a boxer and Marvel’s newest supervillain.
With a resume that includes working with Spike Lee and earning a lead actor Emmy nod for “Lovecraft Country,” it’s hard to imagine Majors’ career getting any bigger. IFC Films has acquired U.S. rights to “Catch the Fair One,” a thriller from “Narcos” director Josef Kubota Wladyka that stars real-life professional boxer, Kali “K.O.” Reis. The deal comes after “Catch the Fair One” debuted at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival, where it received warm reviews and captured the Audience Award and a Special Jury mention for Reis’ performance.
It was a role that Reis helped develop in conjunction with Wladyka, who wrote the screenplay based on a story she created. And it’s also a film that drew on her experiences as the first Indigenous fighter to win the International Boxing Association middleweight crown and the reigning Wba Super lightweight champion.
“Catch the Fair One” follows Kaylee “K.O.” Uppashaw (Reis), a former boxer, as she discovers that her missing sister is possibly alive and circulating in a trafficking network. She plugs herself into this dark and dangerous world to find her,...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Loki” Episode 6, “For All Time, Always” — now confirmed as the Season 1 finale — including its ending.]
To create an intriguing, if imperfect, ending for an MCU TV show, all Marvel had to do was not end anything at all.
On a big-picture level, that makes sense. Not ending things is what the superhero storytellers do best, even if “Loki” marks the first time one of their series embraced its own never-ending timeline. With “WandaVision,” the first episodic MCU narrative to premiere on Disney+, the finale struggled to live up to expectations in part because it was billed as a limited series, yet never fully functioned as a standalone arc (to say nothing of its issues delaying and addressing Wanda’s trauma). “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” painted a murkier reading of its intentions by submitting as a Drama Series at the Emmys, while seemingly setting up a new movie instead of a new season.
