For those who follow Carrie Coon on social media, you’ll know that she’s one of the most vocal advocates in the physical media game, with her husband Tracy Letts owning thousands of DVDs and Blu-rays and constantly exposing her to new material every day. Upon her visit to the Criterion Closet, Coon quickly pointed out that she had access to essentially an entire wall of older editions and would instead just be focusing on new releases. One of those items happened to be Jean Eustache’s “The Mother and the Whore,” which Coon realized had more than a few details in common with a popular show she’s currently on.
“So I’m gonna start with this Eustache film, ‘The Mother and the Whore.’ And this is new and it’s a 4K. We have a 4K player,” said Coon. “So I’m gonna take this because, hey,...

Disney’s live-action “Snow White” is here, taking the 1937 animated film into the real world, dwarves and all.
Although technically, in this version, they aren’t dwarves. As explained in the movie, they’re magical creatures that have lived in the woods for hundreds of years. That said, they still take on the names of the original seven dwarves.
And of course, there are some recognizable humans on screen as well as lending their voices to the merry bunch.
So, here are all the faces — and voices — you’ll need to know.

The couple tied the knot over the weekend in Tulum, Mexico, according to multiple outlets. TMZ posted photos of the couple in wedding attire on a beach.
Reps for Theroux and Bloom have not responded to a request for comment.
Theroux and Bloom first sparked romance rumors in February 2023, when they were seen together at a Netflix event. They made their red carpet debut over a year later, at the Vanity Fair Oscars party in March 2024.

Carrie Coon has become one of Hollywood's go-to actors for prestige projects in recent years. Besides her roles in Avengers: Infinity War,The Post, and two Ghostbusters movies, Coon has carved out an impressive career for herself in television. She nabbed an Emmy nomination for playing Midwestern cop Gloria Burgle in FX's Fargo in 2017, and she followed that up with another Emmy nomination in 2024 for her iconic portrayal of queen bee, Bertha Russell, in HBO's The Gilded Age (which has its third season on the way). So, it's no surprise that Mike White cast her in his latest season of HBO's The White Lotus. While just a few episodes have aired so far, it's already clear that Coon can hold her own in a talented ensemble cast. In fact, that sobbing scene alone in Episode 1 should earn her even more attention from Emmy voters. Before all of these parts...

Which star of The White Lotus will win an Emmy? Is Severance overrated? Awards Magnet hosts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng are here to answer your burning questions of the week.
The White Lotus has scored acting Emmys for its first two seasons — Murray Bartlett prevailed for Season 1, while Jennifer Coolidge won for both seasons — but one listener wonders if the show keep up its win streak with the third season. At the moment, Carrie Coon and Walton Goggins are the top White Lotus stars in the Best Drama Supporting Actress and Best Drama Supporting Actor odds, respectively, but neither is in first place. Both were, coincidentally, Emmy nominees last year, the former for The Gilded Age and the latter for Fallout. But what if The White Lotus' key ingredient was Coolidge? She felt like a shoo-in from the beginning of both seasons — and her second win prevented a Succession...

Both on the awards circuit and in the public consciousness, HBO is widely regarded as among the first Hollywood heavyweights to recognize that television, as a medium, had the power to deliver sprawling, large scale stories on a smaller screen. From HBO’s ascent in the late 1990s through its dragon-aided roar across the 2010s, the network’s original series tackled universal stories, stretching across continents and decades.
The network hasn’t been without controversy, though. HBO faced questions about its lack of diversity in flagship series, including “Game of Thrones” and “Girls,” throughout the 2010s. And, unshackled from the restrictions of broadcast TV, the various steps the network took to push the limit of what’s allowed on screen garnered a fair share of pearl-clutching headlines; see “The Sopranos” in the ’90s and “Euphoria” just a few years back. Season 2 of the HBO series adaptation of the video game The Last of Us is now just one month away! The new batch of episodes are scheduled to begin airing on April 13th – and ahead of that date, Variety has revealed the names of six new additions to the cast, including the great Joe Pantoliano (The Matrix). The actor, who is often referred to as “Joey Pants,” recently appeared on just one episode of Dexter: Original Sin as a character called Mad Dog, who exited way too soon. Here’s hoping he’ll be on The Last of Us for a while longer.
Pantoliano’s fellow new additions to the cast are Alanna Ubach (Euphoria), Ben Ahlers (The Gilded Age), Hettienne Park (Hannibal), Robert John Burke (RoboCop 3), and Noah Lamanna (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds). Details on their characters have not been revealed.

There is something very British about the new Netflix Italian period drama The Leopard. Upon doing some research, it seems the Brits have, in fact, adapted this 1860 novel by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa to create an illustrious miniseries that will consume your senses from start to finish. The show, set in 1860s Sicily, follows the titular character, the Prince of Salina, and his family through a time of distress and fear. On the surface, The Leopard seems to be a regular period drama with all of the ingredients that make them so lovable: a love triangle, family drama, people going to war, and a lot more of the usual fluff. But what stood out to me the most about The Leopard is that even amidst all of that chaos, at its heart, it is a drama about a father-daughter relationship.
As you can imagine, the Italian countryside is an absolute delight,...

They are Joe Pantoliano, Alanna Ubach (“Euphoria”), Ben Ahlers (“The Gilded Age”), Hettienne Park (“Hannibal”), Robert John Burke (“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”) and Noah Lamanna (“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”).
Pantoliano is playing Eugene, a small character from video game “The Last of Us Part II” that will be expanded on the show, similar to the Emmy-winning Bill and Frank stand-alone episode from Season 1. For all of Elsbeth‘s amazing aspects and layers, romance is the one facet of the storytelling that always seems to be missing.
Sure, the series has crimes of passion, but that’s more about tragic love endings. We’re here to talk about the more whimsical side of intimacy that matches our pastel-colored protagonist.
You’d think the titular character would be on the prowl looking for a partner, if for no other reason than to always have someone around to talk to.
(Michele Crowe/CBS)
Sadly, Elsbeth seems to have resigned herself to the idea that she is going to be a spinster whose purpose is to make everyone else’s lives pinker.
This is why it’s a shock that she hasn’t taken advantage of these firemen who can’t seem to get enough of the red-headed beauty. Seriously, how are we just now finding out...

Carrie Coon is speaking out about the future of The Gilded Age amid the wait for season three.
If you don’t know, the series was renewed for a third season by HBO in late 2023, and we know of one star’s exit from the series!
However, fans are already wondering if there might be a fourth season of the period piece drama, set in New York City in the late 1800s.
Keep reading to find out more…
Carrie Coon, who plays Bertha Russell on the show, was asked about the future of the series.
She told Variety, “Right now we’re on a one-year deal. So I’m optimistic that we could get another year. If for some reason the numbers skyrocket this season, perhaps we’d get a multi-year deal, but that’s really above my pay grade.” So, basically, a fourth season could happen should the viewership remain the same.

FX's Shōgun, adapted from the novel by James Clavell, was an absolute triumph. Released in 2024, the series was a critical hit, dominating the streaming charts and taking home a record-breaking 18 Primetime Emmys last year. While audiences and critics may have loved the hit samurai drama, one person who couldn't get on board with the modern adaptation is Jerry London, who directed the beloved 1980 Shōgun miniseries.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jerry London aired his grievances about the latest adaptation, namely that a series set in Japan and featuring Japanese characters played by Japanese actors had the gall to mostly be in Japanese. "It’s completely different from the one I did," London said. The 1980 miniseries was a far looser adaptation of Clavell's giant novel, and homed in on the romance between John Blackthorne and Mariko, often at the expense of its Japanese cast. London explained:

"The White Lotus" is back for its third season, and this time, creator Mike White — who won multiple Emmys for the show's first two outings — is bringing audiences to Thailand to see who's getting murdered. So, what can we expect? Probably some foreboding yet gorgeous shots of the Thai landscape, friction between the staff members of the fictional luxury White Lotus hotel in the Asian country, and a star-studded cast. Season 1, set in Hawaii's beautiful Maui, featured pretty phenomenal performers like Connie Britton, Natasha Rothwell, Steve Zahn, Sydney Sweeney, Molly Shannon, Jake Lacy, Murray Bartlett, and Jennifer Coolidge. Then, in Season 2, which took place in the Sicilian city of Taormina, Michael Imperioli, Aubrey Plaza, Meghann Fahy, Theo James, F. “The White Lotus” Season 3 is finally here. As is always the case with the HBO anthology series, though, it’s returned with a new cast of actors and characters for viewers to follow and either grow to love or revile. “The White Lotus” has also left its Hawaii and Italy hotels behind in favor of a new exotic setting: a wellness retreat in Thailand. Prepare for a lot of awkward social moments, barely hidden resentment, and, of course, some murder.
Here are all the characters you need to know in “The White Lotus” Season 3 as well as who play them.

[Warning; The following contains Major spoilers for Elsbeth Season 2 Episode 11, “Tiny Town.”] Put a little love in your heart, Elsbeth Tascioni! Ok, the Elsbeth heroine is full of love, but not in the romantic sense in The Good Wife spinoff so far. That changed in the show’s first Valentine’s Day-themed episode on Thursday, February 13 when Fantastic Four‘s Ioan Gruffudd guest starred as Carrie Preston‘s new onscreen love interest. Kaya (Carra Patterson) also saw sparks fly with roomie Cameron (The Gilded Age‘s Sullivan Jones), but the episode wasn’t all heart eyes and smiles. This week’s guest of the week was a love interest, which made the murderer’s identity not as primary to the plot. But what stood out about this villain is the fact that he was dangerously close to killing Elsbeth. The danger was first introduced when Gruffudd’s Angus witnessed a New York City murder from all the...

Carrie Coon couldn’t tease much about The Gilded Age Season 3, but she had one particular group of people to thank for keeping the show going.
During an interview for The White Lotus Season 3 premiere, Coon thanked “the gays” for their support in renewing the Julian Fellowes-created drama.
“The gays saved it,” Coon joked with Entertainment Tonight. “Thank you, right now, you saved it. We would not have a season three without you.”
The Gilded Age was renewed for a third season days after Season 2 concluded in December 2023, following solid ratings for the period drama. According to HBO, total premiere-night viewing for the season grew for six consecutive weeks, culminating in a series high for the Season 2 finale.
The third season of the drama is currently filming. The cast additions include Bill Camp as Jp Morgan, Merritt Wever as Monica O’Brien, Leslie Uggams as Mrs. Ernestine Brown, Lisagay Hamilton as Frances Ellen Watkins Harper,...

HBO pulled all the stops with a glitzy Thailand-themed premiere event Monday night for the upcoming third season of The White Lotus, Mike White’s social satire anthology wrapped into a murder mystery. Set and shot in his hometown of Syracuse, New York, with family members even making cameos, “Plainclothes” is clearly very personal to writer/director Carmen Emmi. It’s much more than its plot synopsis, which tells of a 1990s period piece about an undercover police officer luring gay men into the crime of indecent exposure. In reality, “Plainclothes” is a meditation on the process of accepting oneself even as society and loved ones deem it wrong.
English actor Tom Blyth, most recognizable from the MGM+ series “Billy the Kid” and “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” impresses as Lucas, the cop. Blythe’s performance is an interior one, where what Lucas does is not as important as how he feels inside. Capturing that is a special gift and Blyth delivers. Early on, it’s obvious that Lucas compartmentalizes his own desires with ease while performing his job.
