Sony Pictures (with some help from the film's leading men) have announced a Christmas 2025 release date for their upcoming Anaconda reboot, which may officially be titled The Anaconda.

Fan-favorites Jack Black (Kung Fu Panda 4; Tropic Thunder; School of Rock) and Paul Rudd ( Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania; Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire; Avengers: Endgame) have been enlisted to headline the feature, with Daniela Melchior (Fast X; Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3; The Suicide Squad) co-starring. Additional casting is currently underway.

Per Bloody Disgusting, the Chinese Anaconda remake comes from co-directors Xiang Qui Liang and Xiang He Sheng. Like the original film from 1997, the new Anaconda tells the story of a group of humans falling prey to the world's largest snake. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Evan Daugherty (writer of Killing Season and co-writer of 2014's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and 2012's Snow White and the Huntsman) has been hired to write a screenplay for an "an all-new and all-modern take" on Anaconda.

While plot details have yet to be unveiled, THR reveals that the studio is "hoping to take a Meg-style approach" to the reimagining. According to Box Office Mojo, the 2018 colossal shark movie brought in more than $530 million worldwide on an estimated $130 million production budget. A producer and director have not been announced for the new Anaconda film at this time.

Resident Evil franchise masterminds Constantin Film and Jb Pictures have got a Titanoboa movie in development. The movie is looking to The Meg for inspiration as it plans to feature the giant extinct snake coming back from the dead somehow to wreak havoc, likely on some wholly unprepared humans.

The Titanoboa movie is being fast-tracked, according to Deadline, and will begin filming next year. There are no cast details to share with you yet, but Tony Giglio is penning the script right now. Jeremy Bolt and Robert Kulzer, the team working to make Monster Hunter a success, are behind the film.

Robert Englund, Yancy Butler, and Corin Nemec star in Lake Placid vs. Anaconda, a crossover film featuring the crocodiles and anacondas from two popular film franchises. With Lake Placid vs. Anaconda now available on DVD, we caught up with the film's screenwriter, Berkeley Anderson.

In Lake Placid vs. Anaconda, you pit two creatures from popular franchises against one another. How did the idea for this story formulate and what were the challenges and rewards of combining these two franchises?

Berkeley Anderson: Well, when the last movie in the Lake Placid series was called The Final Chapter, you know you have your work cut out for you. Let’s be honest, both the Lake Placid and Anaconda franchises were getting a little long in the tooth and yet there was obviously an appetite to have them continue. Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No continues the story of Fin Shepard – fresh from receiving a medal of honour from the President of the United States and a mini-battle with a sharknado in Washington, D.C. – who, this time round takes on an ever-growing succession of sharknado’s that, eventually, build to a sharknado “wall” that can only be stopped by launching Fin Shepard and his dad (played by David Hasslehoff) into outer space to literally burn the sharks out of Earth’s upper atmosphere!

Unfortunately, Lake Placid vs. Anaconda casts several of its creatures in the digital realm; the result rings very false. The film's reality is further hampered by the overuse of Adr. Many minor characters have entire strings of dialogue dubbed. And, the production company, UFO Films, continues with its long series of blunders with this kitschy film. Lake Placid vs. Anaconda should be hung out to dry. The film's plot is a real mess.
