Paul Rudd and Jack Black are teaming up for a new version of the campy 1997 cult classic Anaconda for Sony Pictures, and to announce the release date, the pair made a hilarious video together (below). In the short clip, Black promises, "There's gonna be a big f**kin' snake, and it's gonna rip." Two comic legends and this description should be more than enough to put butts in seats come Christmas Day 2025, when the movie will hit theaters.
Little else is known about the project, which was first announced back in August 2024. Here's some rather surprising but nonetheless exciting news. According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, Paul Rudd and Jack Black might be in talks to star in a remake of the 1997 horror creature feature Anaconda.
Everything is very much still in development and the "rumors" stage, but the outlet says the remake would focus on an older group of friends remaking one of their favorite films from their younger days in the hopes of recapturing their youth amid facing mid-life crises. Of course, once they arrive at their rainforest destination, the friends "find themselves in a fight for their lives against natural disasters, giant snakes, and violent criminals."
It sounds like there are two characters fleshed out, one a director-turned-wedding-videographer feeling stuck in their job and the other a Hollywood actor aspiring for greater work than the cop procedural series he was previously cast in. Black was reportedly...

Prepare yourself to be regurgitated by a giant snake all over again! Paul Rudd and Jack Black are in early talks to star in a new Anaconda movie based on the 1997 adventure horror starring Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, and Jon Voight. However, it appears that there will be something of a meta twist with this project.

They head to the rainforest only to find themselves into a fight for their lives against natural disasters, giant snakes and violent criminals.” As for who Jack Black and Paul Rudd could be playing in the Anaconda movie, details are sparse, but sources mention two characters: a director stuck in his job as a wedding videographer and an actor who once did a stint on a police procedural who now sees his Hollywood dreams slipping away.

"This isn't your territory. It's their territory." Another international remake of a Hollywood classic! China has already remade the 1997 action-horror film about giant snakes called Anaconda, which was a huge hit when it debuted in the 90s. This new version is similar but follows a group of circus performers stranded in a rainforest. They must figure out how to survive when they discover they're marked as bait for the snakes. This Chinese remake stars Terence Yin, Nita Xia, Paul Che, Jiu Kong, Ken Lok, Wang Xing Chen, Wang Gang, Wang Zi Run, Xu Shao Hang, and Wu Hao. The original movie ended up with a few bad direct-to-video sequels (including Lake Placid vs. Anaconda in 2015) and Hollywood has also been trying to reboot it with screenwriter Evan Daugherty hired to write a new script. Until then, this Chinese version might be just as ridiculously entertaining as the original, which infamously...

Here's something you probably didn't expect to see today: A trailer for a Chinese remake of the '90s horror B-movie classic "Anaconda." Yes, really. And, to be perfectly honest, you're probably not prepared for just how bonkers this thing looks. Of course the original movie is pretty bonkers on its own, but this is taking things to another level. Before we discuss this further, it's probably best you watch this insanity for yourself. Check it out above.
So yeah ... much to discuss, much to process. First and foremost, the broad beats of the plot appear to be in line with the original film, with some extra stuff thrown in there. Most notably, there appears to be a lot more giant snake action. The original "Anaconda" had an animatronic snake that was very tough to work with, which limited director Luis Llosa a bit. Here? It's just lots of pretty decent CGI craziness.

Horror crossovers can be wild and entertaining, even if they receive bad reviews and box office numbers. Some horror crossovers prioritize fun over scares, resulting in enjoyable B-movie messes. From monsters battling each other to comedic meetups, there are various styles of horror crossovers to choose from.

Horror crossovers are a common tactic when franchises are running out of steam. The history of monster crossovers dates back to the Universal cycle, with the best ones focusing on a fun fight. "Freddy vs. Jason" effectively concludes both franchises that had already exhausted their creative options.
Horror loves crossovers, especially when a given franchise (or two) is running out of gas. When the genre's various boogeymen run out of normal victims to eviscerate, the next logical step is to pit them against each other. Superheroes used the same trick in the comics from time immemorial, and the principle remains the same. The roots in horror movies go back to the Universal Monster days, and have included a number of memorable (if not always brilliant) match-ups.

Horror crossovers have a long history, ranging from brilliant to bizarre, with some silly premises and questionable reviews becoming highly successful franchises. Some notable horror crossovers include Frankenstein Meets The Wolfman, Lake Placid Vs. Anaconda, Mega Shark Vs. Giant Octopus, and Alien Vs. Predator. While some crossovers have been criticized for their surreal and incongruous elements, others, like "Freddy vs. Jason" and "Alien vs. Predator," have been praised for their enduring popularity and successful execution.
Horror movie crossovers have been produced for decades, but often vary wildly from the brilliant to the plain bizarre. While some have been met with critical acclaim, it is often the movies with seemingly the silliest premises and questionable critic reviews that are successful and spawn highly prosperous franchises. Nevertheless, horror crossovers have been a cinematic staple for years.
The horror genre has routinely sought to pair off iconic villains for an epic, spooky showdown.

Who doesn't love a good crossover? Besides the fact that they settle nerds' constant debates of "who would win in a fight between ___ and ___?," there's something so exciting about seeing the main characters of two or more different franchises coming together for the first time ever. Another reason why crossovers have so much appeal with audiences is that there are often legal reasons why characters from one series can't mingle with those of another, making the times when they do meet on the big (or small) screen all the more special.
Crossovers got a massive boost in popularity due to the wildly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, crossovers haven't only been relegated to the superhero realm; for decades, there have been numerous other examples of fictional worlds colliding across numerous genres. In fact, well before Nick Fury appeared at the end of "Iron Man" to tell Tony Stark about the Avengers Initiative,...

One of the most memorable and star-studded creature features of the ’90s, Anaconda is being reimagined at Columbia Pictures.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Evan Daugherty (writer of Killing Season and co-writer of 2014's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and 2012's Snow White and the Huntsman) has been hired to write a screenplay for an "an all-new and all-modern take" on Anaconda.
While plot details have yet to be unveiled, THR reveals that the studio is "hoping to take a Meg-style approach" to the reimagining. According to Box Office Mojo, the 2018 colossal shark movie brought in more than $530 million worldwide on an estimated $130 million production budget. A producer and director have not been announced for the new Anaconda film at this time.
Released in 1997, Anaconda followed a film crew and a guide with a hidden agenda deep into the Amazon jungle, where they found themselves prey to a massive snake of prehistoric proportions.

Sony Pictures is in early development of a reboot of the “Anaconda” franchise, hiring “Divergent” writer Evan Daugherty to write the project.
The studio has not set up the project with a producer, director or actors.
Sony released the original “Anaconda” in 1997 as a horror thriller starring Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz and Owen Wilson. Directed by Luis Llosa, the plot centered on Lopez’ character heading a documentary film crew looking for a long-lost tribe along the Amazon River, only to see the expedition taken over by a nefarious snake hunter, played by Voight, leading to several horrific encounters with a massive green serpent.
“Anaconda” was a success with a worldwide gross of $135 million on a $45 million budget. That led to a 2004 sequel “Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid,” set in Borneo, as the protagonists sought a life-extending flower on a remote island inhabited by deadly snakes.

The Meg's success has got some people wondering if there's gas in the oversized snake tank.
Resident Evil franchise masterminds Constantin Film and Jb Pictures have got a Titanoboa movie in development. The movie is looking to The Meg for inspiration as it plans to feature the giant extinct snake coming back from the dead somehow to wreak havoc, likely on some wholly unprepared humans.
The Titanoboa movie is being fast-tracked, according to Deadline, and will begin filming next year. There are no cast details to share with you yet, but Tony Giglio is penning the script right now. Jeremy Bolt and Robert Kulzer, the team working to make Monster Hunter a success, are behind the film.
The biggest snake in noted history, the Titanoboa has been long dead for about 58 million years, but back in its heydey it weighed about 2,500 lbs and grew up to 42 ft long,...

Long before any sort of justice had ever dawned, Freddy vs. Jason debuted in cinemas to what may be remembered as the first notable crossover between two major film franchises. Since then, we’ve received a couple Alien vs. Predator movies, the second of which performed so poorly that Fox split them back into their own separate entities, and to a much, much lesser extent, Lake Placid vs. Anaconda.
If you missed the party back in 2003 though, then perhaps you’ve arrived later than expected thanks to Netflix. With so many different movies being at your disposal, I’d certainly hope that you’ve indulged in both A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th series, with their crossover serving as the cherry on top.
Well, if you have yet to do so – or if you’d like one last chance to savor something featuring either Freddy Krueger or...

Long before any sort of justice had ever dawned, Freddy vs. Jason hit theaters and to this day, is still remembered as the first notable crossover between two major horror franchises. Since then, we’ve received a couple Alien vs. Predator movies, the second of which was so bad that Fox split them back into their own separate entities, and to a much, much lesser extent, Lake Placid vs. Anaconda.
Believe it or not, though, the road to getting the dream mashup between the two slashers made was a difficult one. With the first seeds having been planted in the closing moments of 1993’s Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, you’d have thought it’d be smooth sailing. In reality, though, it was quite the opposite.
None of us could have foreseen that the Hell Jason had actually been sent off to was that of the developmental variety,...

So, while it remains doubtful that any sort of sequel will happen outside of the comic book realm (one adding to Ash of Evil Dead fame to the mix nearly made its way to the big screen), we’ll continue going on interesting bits of trivia to preserve the memory of this mashup.
On that note, we’re pleased to be able to bring you a previously unseen photo showing Robert Englund, Freddy Krueger himself, catching a breath in between takes.

And although the first seeds had been planted for an Elm Street crossover in the closing moments of 1993’s Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, director Adam Marcus was cross-pollinating with a much different horror franchise right under our noses.
To help set the stage, let’s look at an excerpt from a recent discussion he had with Horror Geek Life in which Marcus elaborated on his need to make sense of Friday the 13th‘s continuity:

Robert Englund, Yancy Butler, and Corin Nemec star in Lake Placid vs. Anaconda, a crossover film featuring the crocodiles and anacondas from two popular film franchises. With Lake Placid vs. Anaconda now available on DVD, we caught up with the film's screenwriter, Berkeley Anderson.
In Lake Placid vs. Anaconda, you pit two creatures from popular franchises against one another. How did the idea for this story formulate and what were the challenges and rewards of combining these two franchises?
Berkeley Anderson: Well, when the last movie in the Lake Placid series was called The Final Chapter, you know you have your work cut out for you. Let’s be honest, both the Lake Placid and Anaconda franchises were getting a little long in the tooth and yet there was obviously an appetite to have them continue. I would say that finding an entry point for this movie—the place...

Hellraiser did it, Jason Vorhees did it, and now the killer sharks of sharknado are doing it… they’re heading into Space!
Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No continues the story of Fin Shepard – fresh from receiving a medal of honour from the President of the United States and a mini-battle with a sharknado in Washington, D.C. – who, this time round takes on an ever-growing succession of sharknado’s that, eventually, build to a sharknado “wall” that can only be stopped by launching Fin Shepard and his dad (played by David Hasslehoff) into outer space to literally burn the sharks out of Earth’s upper atmosphere!
As per the previous film, Sharknado 3 is filled with celebrity cameos,...

Roger Corman and folks at The Asylum have a lot to answer for… That’s all I’m saying.
Sharknado. A film that proved you don’t have to have a lot of money or great CGI to pull in an audience on the Syfy channel. All you need is a giant creature and a ridiculous concept! Since the debut of That film, it seems like Syfy have greenlit any and all monster movie scripts that they’re sent. Hence we come to Lake Placid vs. Anaconda.
A few years ago the idea of these two monster-movie franchises coming together – especially given they weere originally made by two different studios (Lake Placid was a Fox production, whilst...

*full disclosure: a DVD screener of this film was provided by Sony Pictures. Director: A.B. Stone. Writers: Berkeley Anderson. Cast: Corin Nemec, Yancy Butler, Stephen Billington and Skye Lourie. Special effects can create remarkable environments, like those seen in Bladerunner (1982). Special effects can also create artificiality, if they are the focus of the film. Unfortunately, Lake Placid vs. Anaconda casts several of its creatures in the digital realm; the result rings very false. The film's reality is further hampered by the overuse of Adr. Many minor characters have entire strings of dialogue dubbed. And, the production company, UFO Films, continues with its long series of blunders with this kitschy film. Lake Placid vs. Anaconda should be hung out to dry. The film's plot is a real mess. Into the fourth sequel, a corporate executive wants to capture a genetically mutated snake, so that she can alter it even more. Meanwhile,...
