Selma Blair has signed on to star in the supernatural thriller Silent, Variety reports.
Doron & Yoaz Paz are directing from a script by Stephen Herman (Black Box).
Blair will play Skylar, a sound designer hired anonymously to create the audio for a rare silent film. Disturbed by its contents, Skylar is nonetheless increasingly obsessed with her work, and unwittingly finds herself caught up in a dark ritual that unlocks an ancient evil, threatening to consume her and her young daughter.
Production is set to begin in Vancouver this summer from Roundtable Entertainment and Templeheart Films for an expected 2026 release.
“We’re thrilled to be collaborating with Selma Blair on this unique project. We believe the best horror emerges from remarkable character building. That’s why Selma is perfect for this movie. You care about her and her journey. When you care about the characters, the frightening moments hit much harder,...

Thank the gods for brilliant screenwriters. That’s why they’re the most sought-after gold currency in today’s streaming wars, from Scott Frank (“The Queen’s Gambit”) and Peter Morgan (“The Crown”) to Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Killing Eve”) and Lena Waithe (“The Chi”).
These scribes hole up in their lonely rooms and think and dream and write, conjuring characters, dialogue, scenes, and episodes that will grab viewers away from something else they could be watching. And a special few bring to life entire made-up worlds, including David Benioff and Dan Weiss (“Game of Thrones”), Ronald D. Moore (the reimagined “Battlestar Galactica”), and now, the creator of “Britannia,” lauded British playwright Jez Butterworth.
This is Butterworth’s first go-round as a showrunner. He’s written plenty of screenplays for Hollywood (“Ford v Ferrari”), but was driven away from his early directing ambitions by a miserable run-in at age 29 with Harvey Weinstein on his sophomore movie,...

Exclusive: Producer Shaked Berenson has teamed with former Dread Central Editor-in-Chief, Jonathan Barkan to launch the new genre distribution label The Horror Collective. The banner will be under Berenson’s production/distribution outfit Entertainment Squad and Barkan will head the venture which plans to release 10-12 films per year.
Like the name of the distribution label suggests, The Horror Collective is building itself to become a destination that fosters independent horror filmmakers and connect their films to fans. It will also finance and produce original content. The outfit’s inaugural film will be Elza Kephart’s Slaxx, which was the first project financed Entertainment Squad and will be released by The Horror Collective and enter the festival circuit in Q1 2020. Berenson financed and executive produced the Slaxx with long collaborator, Anne-Marie Gélinas of Ema Films.

Directors: Doron Paz, Yoav Paz. Writer: Ariel Cohen. Cast: Hani Furstenberg, Ishai Golan, Brynie Furstenberg and Adi Kvetner. The Golem is the latest original film from Dread Central Presents. Distributed by Epic Pictures earlier this month, this film was developed by Israeli filmmakers: Doron Paz and Yoav Paz. These are the same filmmakers behind the earlier horror film Jeruzalem (2015). Both film have been influenced by Jewish mythology and even the Frankenstein myth. Though, this creature is created through supernatural forces and not science. And, this Golem has a purpose, to save a small Jewish village from Christian raiders. Very much a creepy kid film, in the vein of The Omen (1976) or Children of the Corn (1984), this child terror shows a penchant for murder. The finale brings out his specialty in one of the better climaxes in indie horror. The Golem should be put on most indie horror fans to-buy list.

Tagline: "An Ancient Legend Reborn." The Golem is a horror film based on an ancient Jewish legend. In the legend, a demonic child figure can be summoned, in the face of invasion. The Golem was developed by the Paz Brothers: Doron and Yoav Paz. They were the central filmmakers behind the undead feature Jeruzalem (2015). Their latest goes back into a medieval past. As well, The Golem stars: Hani Furstenberg (Mississippi Murder), Ishai Golan, Lenny Ravish, Brynie Furstenberg and Alexey Tritenko. A trailer has been launched recently for this exciting thriller and the clip, plus release details, can be found here. The trailer develops the story more. However, Hanna (Furstenberg) is part of a remote Jewish community. Practicing mysticism, she turns against her husband and conjures a dangerous entity, tasked with protecting her and her community. Yet, a demon this strong has a will all of its own. This title has...

Exclusive: Directors Yoav and Doron Paz, the Israel-born brothers behind the 2015 indie zombie horror hit Jeruzalem who are now working on its sequel, have signed with Verve for representation.
Their most recent film, The Golem, just had its North American premiere at Screamfest in Los Angeles. The pic, from Epic Pictures’ revived Dread Central label, is set during an outbreak of a deadly plague, when a mystical woman must save her tight-knit Jewish community from foreign invaders. The entity she conjures to protect them though is a far greater evil. It has been slated for a February 2019 theatrical release date.
The Paz Brothers, as they are known, are also working on Plan A, a sci-fi Holocaust-revenge feature. On the TV side, they directed several episodes of the Israeli caper comedy Asfur, and helmed the pilot for Temporarily Dead.
The remain managed by Zero Gravity Management.

Everyone wants to watch a scary movie until they’re actually watching one. Exclusive: Horror sequel will be set 10 years after the events of the first film and will not be found-footage.
Following their breakout found-footage horror Jeruzalem, which premiered as a work-in-progress at last year’s Jerusalem Film Festival and went on to play at more than 20 international festivals and sell into all major markets, fraternal film-making duo Doron and Yoav Paz have had a sequel greenlit by Us production and distribution outfit Epic Pictures Group, who are financing the project.
Jeruzalem 2 will pick up on events 10 years later, when the Israeli army has managed to contain the apocalyptic gate to hell discovered in the first film by placing a concrete dome over Jerusalem’s Old City.
The sequel sees a man trying to find his daughter, who has joined a religious cult that exists inside the dome, as doomsday descends once again.

Deadline is reporting that Israeli writer/directors and brothers, Doron and Yoav Paz, are working on a sequel for their first-person horror film JeruZalem. The first film claimed to be shot on Google glasses. This time they are planning to use another technology in the sequel. This time around, the filmmakers are incorporating an 'extensive virtual reality component' in which viewers can place themselves in the film. “There is a trend right now in Israel within the vc world that is doing investment in the Vr space,” said Berenson. “The first film when we started working on it was when Google glasses were being talked about and used that. For the second film, we are going to have the virtual reality element which will allow...

Religion is the perfect breeding ground for horror, you just have to look at the bible for evidence of that… That’s why releasing Jeruzalem around Easter seems so perfect… However, are we tired of the found footage horror? Or does this religious horror film bring something different to the table?
Sarah (Danielle Jadelyn) and Rachel (Yael Grobglas) fly to Israel to party, and have a good time. Finding themselves in the city of Jerusalem everything seems fun at first. When the world around them descends into chaos and it appears a hell of biblical proportions is rising, can they survive?

We’re living in an interesting time for horror movies. As the reach of the new global cinema trickles down from the blockbusters to even indie horror, we’re getting films shot in countries and locations that are relatively new to genre films, from the United Arab Emirates (in Tobe Hooper’s long-shelved Djinn) to now JeruZalem, not just made by Israeli filmmakers the Paz Brothers, but actually shot in the titular city itself. It’s a choice that adds both novelty and a sense of history to what is an otherwise overly familiar first-person horror film that’s part zombie movie, part Cloverfield, all disappointing.
Two American girls, Sarah (Danielle Jadelyn) and Rachel (Yael Grobglas) are en route to a vacation in Tel Aviv when they meet Kevin (Yon Tumarkin), who convinces them to accompany him to Jerusalem for good times in the Old City. After a few days of hanging out,...

Finding a fresh perspective on the Holy City
The Paz brothers, Doron and Yoav, are being celebrated as a bold new force in horror, and it’s not hard to see why. Although its premise is simple enough and much of it involves a familiar flight from the undead, JeruZalem is a little film that punches well above its weight. I asked Doron how he came to make it.
“For years, my brother and I, we loved genre films and horror. For years we thought that Jerusalem could be the perfect setting for a horror movie and we wondered why nobody was using it, and then we thought, okay, it’s time to pick up the glove and just do it. We wanted to show the real roughness and mystery of the city, not like the Jerusalem you see mostly in movies or tourist guides of National Geographic, that sort of thing.

Is it coincidence that Google filed a new application to revive Google Glass on December 28th (despite halting production on the prototype in January) just weeks before Israeli-set horror film JeruZalem supplies a 90-minute adventure into Hell through those exact lenses (albeit a pair of fictitious knock-offs)? Yes. It’s most definitely a coincidence. But whether that technology was going to stay dead or be reborn has little bearing on Doron and Yoav Paz‘s latest work because utilizing it provides an effective gimmick regardless. Doing so is by no means wholly original with the effect proving [Rec] meets Cloverfield meets Unfriended, but sometimes a slight twist is enough to render a maneuver fresh. I actually would’ve liked more electronic “glass” intrusions than were used to set it further apart.

With such a rich, biblical culture, one has to wonder why more Israeli horror films don’t take advantage of Jerusalem. Scenes essentially set themselves, twisting through vast tunnel systems and maze-like markets, and ideology paints a religious Hell on Earth given the right story.
JeruZalem, a found-footage demon flick from the Paz brothers, understands the advantages of transporting viewers to a creature-filled Jerusalem, and treats the holy land with terrifying respect. Sure, the film may spend most of its time accompanying two Jewish tourists as they soak in the deceptively cheery destination, but when the “Oh Shit” switch gets flipped, Doron and Yoav Paz prove to be invigorating genre filmmakers. A tad generic in practice, but insane nonetheless.
Danielle Jadelyn stars as Sarah, a young vacationer on a quest to Tel Aviv with her best friend Rachel (Yael Grobglas). Right before she leaves, her father gifts her a prescription...

I’ve heard 2015 described as a bad year for horror, but that hasn’t been my experience. Between seeing a bunch of movies I really enjoyed (and will continue to enjoy for years to come) and the horror I’ve enjoyed through other outlets, I’ve been a happy genre fan this year. Here are some of my highlights:
We Are Still Here: Writer/director Ted Geoghegan’s debut feature may lack some of the nuance and technical polish of some other movies on this list, but no other horror movie has stuck with me as much this year. I love the wintery atmosphere, I love the loooong the film builds, I love the way that ghosts are depicted not as spooky things that float around and slam doors but instead are angry and vicious and have the immediacy of zombies. Most of all I love the way that...

Falling firmly in the goofy camp of horror gimmicks is Jeruzalem, an Israel-set shocker that uses the holy city as its canvas and Google Glass as its brush. We’ve seen Pov films before (Rec 2, Enter the Void), but don’t just get to see and hear young American Sarah’s get-away vacation of a lifetime – we get to see the Facebook profiles of everyone she meets, too. Including augmented reality will almost definitely date the film, but it also gives the benefit of lightning-fast exposition; we learn key characters’ names as soon as they appear onscreen along with a snapshot of their personality. It does take something away from the natural character development you might otherwise expect, though a film like Jeruzalem likely wouldn’t have a lot...

Patrick Ewald and Shaked Berenson, the principals of Epic Pictures have been around the independent and international scene for many years. Mr. Berenson has served on the Ifta Board of Directors since September 2011. (Ifta, Independent Film and Television Association is the indie lobbying and trade organization that puts on the American Film Market every November in Santa Monica)
From film development, financing and production to international sales representation and U.S. distribution, Patrick and Shaked attribute their success to the people they work with rather than upon genres or formulaically successful pictures. They stress the need to find unique standout films to be made by people they trust and like. With so many films now being made (and released) Patrick and Shaked both stress the need to find films which will rise above the “white noise” of current films.

Making the film is only a small part of the process and so they value the filmmakers themselves and in fact, choose their projects based upon the individuals making the film who will be with them for at least 18 more months making the festival and market rounds, publicizing the release in U.S. if not also for the launches in other countries and more importantly who will be with them on the next films they make as well.
They seek out relationships with exceptional producers and talent in order to secure A-level, high-quality projects both domestically and in Europe and Asia. Films they name as “standout unique films” are “She’s Gotta Have It”, “Laws of Gravity”, “Tampopo”.
They are gratified that Sundance has recognized the special qualities in both “Turbo Kid” and “ Entertainment." It affirms and legitimizes their own recognition of the next generation of filmmakers with unique views of what makes a movie special. And to see them in the almost sold-out vintage 1,500 seat Theatre at the Ace Hotel, one of L.A.’s most lavish and historic film venues, downtown at 9th and Broadway will be great.
Both of these films are distinctly unique. One was in Sundance’s Midnight Section and the other was in the Next section this past January.

“Turbo Kid” producer Ant Timpson from “The ABCs of Death” of Magnolia Pictures called them about the project. He had some money and the film was in pre-production but they needed final equity. Anne-Marie Gélinas
in Quebec arranged the equity with a Canadian bank. She is very straight forward; it took four days to make the deal and in six or seven days the money was all in. Being independent allows for such quick turnaround. And knowing the people attached for such a long time made the decision easy. Jason Eisener from “Hobo with a Shotgun” and Ant Simpson were key.
“Turbo Kid” is a fan boy comic book film but when they read the script, they knew it was not easy; other companies would be more risk-adverse, but they trusted the filmmakers to deliver. Now everyone is bringing them special films. Formula films are more certain, but less interesting to them. When they choose well, as they did with “Turbo Kid”, then they want to make more movies with those filmmakers.
“Turbo Kid” which premiered in Sundance has gone on the festival route to win Best Director at Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival, the Audience Award at SXSW Film Festival and the Audience Award for Best Film and Best Art Direction (Sylvain Lemaitre ) at Fantaspoa International Fantastic Film Festival. Epic Pictures Releasing will release the film “day & date” in theaters and premium VOD in the U.S. and U.K. (through Lionsgate) on August 28. Next will be its Los Angeles Premiere.
"Turbo Kid" / Canada, New Zealand (Directors and screenwriters: Anouk Whissell, François Simard, Yoann-Karl Whissell) — Set in a post apocalyptic year of 1997, this nostalgic tribute to ’80s action-adventure films follows an orphaned teenager who goes on an adventure to save his female-robot companion from the hands of the evil warlord who controls the only water supply. Cast: Munro Chambers, Laurence Leboeuf, Michael Ironside, Aaron Jeffery, Edwin Wright.
The comparison between “Turbo Kid” and “Entertainment” is vast. Where “Turbo Kid” was completely planned with a perfectly orchestrated visual style, dialogue, pacing, music, clearly blueprinted in every detail, “Entertainment” which they entered at pre-production stage was in Rick Alverson’s head and not at all on the page. Rick said he knew it would work and they had to trust him to deliver. Initially Epic was financing a big chunk of equity but at a certain point another investor took a larger piece; however Epic was committed to financing whatever was missing. Magnolia will release the film in the U.S.; it is a perfect fit for them. Cinetic was the producer rep on the film. Epic will represent the film internationally and has already licensed it to NonStop for Sweden. It is playing Locarno this August 5-15 competing for the Golden Leopard; that is a perfect stage for it to be seen by European distributors.
"Entertainment " / U.S.A. (Director: Rick Alverson, Screenwriters: Rick Alverson, Gregg Turkington, Tim Heidecker) — In an attempt to revive his dwindling career and reunite with his estranged daughter, a broken, aging comedian plays a string of dead-end shows in the California desert. Cast: Gregg Turkington, John C. Reilly, Tye Sheridan, Michael Cera, Amy Seimetz, Lotte Verbeek. Los Angeles Premiere
Epic not only acquires third-party projects but initiates and produces its own films like “Tales of Halloween” which just premiered in Fantasia Film Festval. Mike Mendez presented the concept to them and two months later they were shooting this omnibus by ten high profile genre directors. Epic will release it theatrically on October 16, to be followed by “ Jeruzalem” a perfect film at a perfect time for an Israeli horror film.

In two weeks, vampires, cannibals, Halloween frights and more will grace the screen at the Muvico Theater in Rosemont, Illinois for Bruce Cambell's Horror Film Festival. Now a telekinetic kid and and an apocalypse have joined the killer lineup, as both June and JeruZalem will make their U.S. premieres at the festival.
Press Release: "Chicago, Illinois (August 6, 2015) – The second annual Bruce Campbell Horror Film Festival presented by Wizard World, running August 20 – 23 at the Muvico Theater in Rosemont, Illinois (9701 Bryn Mawr Ave., Rosemont), is proud to announce the addition of two more films to the already bursting schedule.
June, starring Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers) and Kennedy Brice (The Walking Dead), tells the story of nine-year-old June (Brice), who has been shuffled in and out of foster homes for years. Though she tries to be good, no matter where she goes a trail of chaos and terror seems to follow.

Among the breakout hits of the 2014-2015 television season was the CW series Jane the Virgin. The critical and commercial acclaim the show received extended to a number of its performers, which included Yael Grobglas. Playing Petra, Grobglas made the jump from Israeli television to fellow CW series Reign prior to her role on Jane the Virgin, and left many curious to see where she would go next.
Her next foray will be into feature films, the second one in her career, returning to work with Israeli filmmakers. Titled Jeruzalem, the film is written and directed by the Paz brothers, Doron Paz and Yoav Paz, marking their second feature and first original screenplay. The synopsis is as follows.
Two American girls on vacation in Israel are charmed into accompanying an anthropology student to Jerusalem during Yom Kippur. Their timing couldn’t be less fortunate. This particular night will see many...

There are two ways to approach a film such as Jeruzalem, from writer/director brothers Yoav Paz and Doron Paz (Phobidilia (trailer)): as a beacon of things to come for the nascent wave of Israeli genre cinema (as it's being hyped), and as a straight-up horror film meant to entertain and scare you. Does it work on either count?
In Jeruzalem, two American girls embark on a trip to Tel-Aviv to party on vacation, but their plans are altered when they meet a handsome young man on their flight who persuades them to start their vacation in Jerusalem over Yom Kippur instead. Exclusive: The Paz brothers are eyeing their first European production, titled Plan A.
Yoav and Doron Paz, the directing duo whose apocalyptic horror film JeruZalem had a work-in-progress screening at Jerusalem Film Festival (July 9-19) on Friday, are planning their first European production.
The film, which has a completed script and is titled Plan A, will be a historical thriller based on the Nakam, the Jewish revenge squad that targeted Nazi war criminals at the end of the Second World War; it promises to tell the real story behind Quentin Tarantino’s 2009 film Inglourious Basterds.
“It’s an amazing true story that not a lot of people in Israel know about,” said Yoav Paz. “It’s about Jews after the Second World War who, after going through the Holocaust, through hell, decide they can’t go on with their lives as if nothing happened and decide to take justice into their own hands.”

Jeruzalem Trailer. Doron Paz and Yoav Paz‘s Jeruzalem (2016) movie trailer stars Dibi Ben-Yosef, Ido Di Capua, Geri Gendel, and Yael Grobglas. Jeruzalem‘s plot synopsis: “When a couple of American young adults fly to Israel to visit the city of Jerusalem, a biblical nightmare falls upon the city.”
Yes I can sense the editing in this trailer, and yes I’m sure some of this dialogue will be extremely telegrammed through possibly condensed characters, but you know what? I was not disappointed or left in exhaustive boredom after watching this trailer, and I think I’m even interested in seeing this movie.
I love the occult, the devil, satanists, secret societies, ancient mythologies, and the possibility of a certain validity to our often all-too-quickly dismissive logic. The reason I love The Exorcist so much has always partly been the idea of the Devil existing. Hey, if it’s even a plausibility with %1 chance,...

Exclusive: Patrick Ewald and Shaked Berenson have reported a strong early response to the apocalyptic creature horror, closing key territories in the early stages of the market.
Deals on Jeruzalem have closed in the UK (Metrodome), Germany/Benelux (Splendid), Japan (New Select), France (Pretty Pictures), Venezuela (Cine Unidos) and Philippines (Pioneer).
Negotiations in Russia and Latin America are ongoing on the story of two American tourists in Israel who get caught up in a Biblical nightmare.
Doron Paz and Yoav Paz are in post on Jeruzalem, which Epic invested in and produced. The film stars Jane The Virgin regular Yael Grobglas and Danielle Jadelyn.
The Epic co-heads have secured a world premiere screening at Fantasia in Montreal in July and were tempted to invest in the film following the multi-territory success of an earlier title on the sales slate, Darren Lynn Bousman’s religious horror 11-11-11.

As the Marché du Film opens for business, film production, financing and sales triple-threat Epic Pictures Group will set up shop with two buzzy genre projects: the multi-directed anthology film "Tales of Halloween" and Israeli horror feature "Jeruzalem." "Jeruzalem" is about two American friends on vacation in Jerusalem who get caught in the middle of a biblical apocalypse as the resurrection erupts on Judgment Day. Trapped between the ancient walls of the holy city, they must fight for survival as all hell breaks loose. Directed by brothers Doron and Yoav Paz (Tiff 2009 and Berlinale’s "Phobidilia"), "Jerzualem" stars Yael Grobglas ("Jane the Virgin") and is shot entirely from a Pov perspective via a head-mounted camera. The found footage-style is a trend among contemporary horror pictures, including recent "As Above, So Below." Read More: Climate Change at Cannes, Where Pre-Buys...
