2020 hasn’t been the greatest year so far, and things don’t seem to be looking to improve any time soon. Of course, the biggest issue remains the ongoing Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic that has wreaked havoc across the globe since the beginning of the year. The novel coronavirus has now infected 10.4 million people worldwide and killed at least 510,00 – and those numbers are likely to be even higher due to asymptomatic cases and inadequate testing. The United States remains the epicenter of the virus with 2.7 million cases and 129,000 deaths, yet many states are continuing with the goal of reopening their economy.
Cases are on the rise following many stores and events attracting visitors again, but one major family outing has remained off-limits since earlier this year – movie theaters. Though other countries have seen a few open back up to the public, all movie theaters in the United States have kept their...

For this week’s home media offerings, we have only a few titles on tap for genre fans, as there are only five different titles making their way home on Tuesday. Arrow Video is showing some love to the underappreciated Dream Demon with their new Blu, and Scream Factory is resurrecting The Spider (1958) as well. If you’re into classic horror in three dimensions, you’ll definitely want to pick up the 3D Blu for House of Wax (1953) and two indie horror flicks are arriving on DVD this week as well: Wood Witch and The Haunted.

The Conjuring movies have popularized the work of real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, which extends far further than the few instances seen in the films. Over the years, the pair have amassed a large collection of objects purportedly infused with supernatural evil, and one such artifact, a unique creation called the Doll of Shadows, has recently been shown off in a video from the Warren Occult Museum.
Filmed by Tony Spera, the museum’s director, the doll is shown under a red light and revealed in all its grotesque glory. Named for the black clothing in which it’s swathed, ragged bird feathers are used for its hair, and human bone and nails have been utilized in its construction. Most notably, a single human tooth protrudes prominently from its mouth.

People can often become plagued by past harrowing experiences, even if they weren’t directly involved in the terrifying events. That happens to force the victims to contend with the frightening aspects of the human condition as they begrudingly come to light. That process is powerfully showcased in the new horror film, ‘The Haunted.’ The mystery […]

While not the most reliable sources, Ed and Lorraine Warren are, at least, pretty good at talking up their own activities as paranormal investigators. The onscreen versions of the characters have tackled a host of different haunted places in The Conjuring franchise, as well as tangling with possessed dolls and other creatures.
The official YouTube channel for the Warrens, who have both now passed away, have shared a clip recently of the couple explaining how to tell if your own house is haunted. The husband and wife team made their comments while on Seekers of the Supernatural in what appears to be 2000, with the clip available above.
The Warrens talk about familiar haunting signs, including shadows and mysterious lights, as well as odd noises, described as “infestations”. In addition, they suggest that the longer a family lives in a home, the more psychic energy they throw off, strengthening any spirits.

Horror buffs and paranormal enthusiasts may have found something good to do next week. The folks at The Dark Zone Network have set up a live stream from The Conjuring house. Not the set constructed for the movies or anything like that, but the real house in Rhode Island that inspired the 2013 horror hit. For a full week, the world will be able to see what it's like living in this location from the annals of real-life horror history.
Starting on May 8, the network will begin a free preview of its 24-hour live stream, which officially kicks off on May 9 and will run for a full week. Those who tune in will get to see what it's like for the actual family who lives there to be cooped up in an alleged haunted house during the quarantine. The network released a description of the event, which reads as follows.

When The Conjuring came out in 2013, film universes were still in their infancy. But off the back of Marvel’s burgeoning box office billions, seven years later we’re drowning in them. Dark Universe this, Monster Universe that, sometimes you just want to watch a movie in its own right. Let’s get back to the topic at hand before my cinematic universe rant derails this article for good.
When The Conjuring came out in 2013 (this sounds familiar), producer Jason Blum thought the idea of a Conjuring film universe sounded “preposterous,” to use his word. Here’s the full quote from his interview with Fandom:
“I’ll tell you a funny story about The Conjuring. A month or two after it turned into a huge hit, someone said to me: “We’re going to make a Conjuring universe”. It wasn’t James [Wan] because I wouldn’t have doubted James,...

The Conjuring shared cinematic universe is reportedly about to get a brand new chapter of scares to add to its already impressive horror legacy. And that’s because according to our sources – the same ones who told us Disney was developing Aladdin 2 and National Treasure 3 last year, both of which we now know to be true – a sequel to The Curse of La Llorona is in the early stages of development.
Not much is known about the next installment of La Llorona just yet, but it does look like the studio is interested in keeping the curse going. The first film, despite lackluster reviews, made an impressive $123 million off of a $9 million budget. And while we don’t have any plot or casting details for you just yet, it’s said that Warner Bros. is hoping for director Michael Chaves to return.

Netflix is to add to its stable of informative content with a series looking at the most haunted locations in America.
Currently without a title, the series is described as “a gritty and meticulous study of some of America’s most notorious haunted locations,” promising episodes that won’t shy away from the grisly details of the tales featured, and that lovers of the dark and macabre will have plenty to keep them engaged.
The Us is awash with buildings and areas that have bloody and gruesome histories, meaning the show will have little trouble in finding inspiration. Possibilities of focus points include 112 Ocean Avenue, Amityville, New York (the location for the events that inspired The Amityville Horror) and the Winchester Mystery House, a labyrinthine mansion constructed with a deliberately confusing layout designed to trap spirits.

Without a doubt, The Conjuring franchise is one of the most profitable and beloved in the horror genre, and it’s not hard to see why that is. Not only did the first two installments genuinely terrify millions of moviegoers around the world, but the series has also paved the way for an entire cinematic universe, which has since brought us films like The Nun and also three Annabelle movies. And things don’t look to be slowing down any time soon in regards to either of those sub-franchises.
But circling back to the mainline series, and we know that The Conjuring 3 will be with us next year, arriving in the fall of 2020, and apparently, it’s going to be another terrifying outing. At least, that’s what we gather from the film’s official title, which was just revealed today.
