Doctor Who season 14 episode 2 features The Beatles and Cilla Black in a time-traveling adventure at Abbey Road Studios. The actor playing John Lennon in "The Devil's Chord" has the most credits to his name of the four Beatles actors. Cilla Black, played by Josie Sedgwick-Davies, has a cameo role in the episode, including a duet with Ruby Sunday.
Doctor Who season 14, episode 2, "The Devil's Chord" features two legendary acts from Liverpool, so all the actors involved had some big shoes to fill. Large portions of the episode are set in 1963, at the recording facility that would eventually become known as Abbey Road Studios. As such, it made sense to have some familiar figures appear in the second episode of Doctor Who season 14.
The Beatles and Cilla Black can now be added to the list of historical figures encountered by the Doctor in the modern era, even if he only really spoke directly with Paul McCartney.

If Hollywood writers go on strike — a possibility as we close in on the May 1 deadline without a new deal between the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) — the impact will be felt far beyond New York and Los Angeles. Around the world, producers and distribution companies, not to mention non-wga affiliated writers, are closely watching the ongoing negotiations, with an expectation that a WGA walkout could mean a boost in demand for new international content.
“As with previous WGA strikes, we’d expect there will be an increased demand for content from outside the U.S., particularly from English-speaking countries like the U.K. and Australia,” says Martin Moszkowicz and Oliver Berben of German mini-major Constantin Film, producers of the English-language Resident Evil horror franchise as well as German films and series including We Children From Bahnhof Zoo, which streams on Amazon,...

The new James Bond film “No Time to Die” will open in Australia on Nov. 11 due to “changes specific to the Australian marketplace impacted by Covid,” according to MGM.
Most patrons would not have been able to see the Daniel Craig film in theaters, since more than 60% of the Australian marketplace is currently in a state of lockdown, which the government mandated will remain in place until 70% of the population is vaccinated. Businesses will be allowed to function normally after the country reaches an 80% vaccination rate, which is estimated to be in mid-November.
“No Time to Die” was originally set to open in Australia as well as in the U.K. on Sept. 30, a week ahead of the U.S. release date which is still set for Oct. 8.
Location Managers Awards Nominees Announced
The nominees for the 8th Annual Location Managers Guild International (Lmgi) Awards were announced today by Lmgi President John Rakich/Lmgi.

The UK’s Littlewoods Studios project in Liverpool got a shot in the arm today with news of a £17m ($22m) funding commitment from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority’s Strategic Investment Fund.
The £54m regeneration project by developers Capital & Centric aims to transform the iconic Littlewoods Building on Edge Lane into a new home for film and TV productions. Having laid derelict for years, the plan is for Twickenham to become the venue’s anchor tenant once it is up and running.
Part of the funding will be used by Liverpool City Council to deliver temporary ‘pop up’ studios to be built on land neighbouring Littlewoods. These are scheduled to be operational by the end of the year.
Liverpool is among the most-filmed UK cities outside of London with productions including Sky Atlantic’s Tin Star and Netflix UK’s The Irregulars. Liverpool Film Office is currently administering...

Exclusive: Gaumont, the French production company behind Netflix shows Narcos and F Is For Family, is in the early stages of adapting Gaston Leroux’s iconic novel The Phantom Of The Opera into a six-part TV miniseries.
The project is being led out of Gaumont’s UK unit, which is working with writer Anthony Horowitz to reimagine Leroux’s gothic story about a disfigured composer, who lives in the depths of the Paris Opera House and falls for singer Christine Daae with tragic consequences.
Deadline understands that the 1910 novel, rather than Andrew Lloyd Webber’s smash-hit musical, will form the backbone of Horowitz’s adaptation, in much the same way that Andrew Davies relied on Victor Hugo’s book to bring Les Misérables to the screen for the BBC and PBS in 2018.
Gaumont declined to comment on the project, but it is another sign of progress being made by UK...

Gaumont U.K. — the British operation of the French studio behind “Narcos” and “Arsène Lupin” — has optioned a new biography of wartime Vogue editor Audrey Withers.
The project, entitled “Dressed For War: The Story of Audrey Withers, Vogue Editor Extraordinaire From the Blitz to the Swinging Sixties,” is based on a biography by researcher and historian Julie Summers, published by Simon & Schuster U.K. in February, with support from Vogue.
The title is envisioned by Gaumont as a multi-part returning drama series. The producer is in early discussions on casting and a female writer for the project who will work closely with author Summers.
Set in 1940’s London, “Dressed For War” is the untold story of Vogue editor-in-chief Withers, a dynamic young woman who was determined to transform an upper-class fashion journal into a provocative, informative magazine that served as a modern lifeline for women of all backgrounds. On top of the many British dramas returning this year, below are the many, many, many new UK TV series we can expect to see arrive in 2020 and beyond. Almost all of them starring David Tennant, by the looks of it – no bad thing.
You’ll find original drama from Russell T. Davies, a new space-set sci-fi from Sky, true crime series, contemporary thrillers and the usual hefty number of literary adaptations and period dramas coming your way. Here’s the same for all the new British comedy on its way in 2020.
We’ll keep this list updated as new commissions, casting news, broadcast details and release dates arrive. Obviously, with Covid-19 halting production on all continuing and new dramas since mid-March, there will now be serious delays, but we’ll keep you posted as news arrives.

U.K. regional funder Liverpool Film Office has launched a £250,000 single project development pot to support local talent during the coronavirus crisis using funds repurposed from its existing production fund.
The new Liverpool City Region Film & TV Development Fund will support feature film and TV content, including both scripted and factual programs, with development awards of between £2,500 and £25,000.
The development fund is open to established and start-up production companies based in and around Liverpool as well as to out-of-region producers looking to co-produce or collaborate with Liverpool-based talent.
The Film Office says it promises a responsive service via an online application portal that will indicate funding decisions within 10 working days.
It says it is giving priority to diverse, high-quality projects that commit to spending a significant proportion of their development budget within the local creative sector, and that have the greatest potential to move quickly into production in the city region once the market returns.
