Throughout the series, the German license plates on the "other side" are missing the blue/yellow EU symbol on the left, and the banknotes are Deutsche Mark instead of Euros, showing that the European Union never existed in the alternate world.
The title sequence features black and white stones from the Go board game, which Howard and Andrei play. The game is known for having the most number of alternative combinations for a move (2x10^170). The goal being to occupy more territory on a board than your opponent.
Michael Nyqvist was originally cast in the role of Chekhov (later renamed Aldrich) that went to Ulrich Thomsen after Nyqvist dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. Nyqvist later died in the late June of 2017, during production of the series.
The title sequence was created with the focus on "templates of destiny".
In order to have both versions of Howard Silk on screen together, J.K. Simmons performed each scene with his double, John Funk playing the other Howard, then traded places to play the opposite role.
John Funk was digitally removed from these scenes, but can be seen in episodes 107 and 205 in the role of Joel.
