This movie has a slow start, 'as in watching a snail move from one spot & not having the patience to see its final destination..., so I had to fast forward>> (simply to see if this was a waste of time), obviously 'never a good sign'.
The cinematography is excellent, unfortunately the characters become increasingly annoying, and 'wilfully stupid'!, though, that's down to the story line/script, writer could have done better, however the acting is pretty good... Wolf scenes and effects are good too...
most reviews have given a rating of 3 or 4 out of 10.
That is apart from one inexplicably review rating of 10 on 10!
...Honestly seems as though we watched different movies! Or the reviewer was having a happy joyous moment!

Missy Peregrym needs to stay out of the woods. Teaming up with the director of Back Country, she experiences another wilderness based fight for survival.
Introducing her new fiancee to her oldest best friend (who is male), the film starts with the two men preparing to go hunting as the fiancee is a writer and editor planning a story about the hunt and kill to provide meat as food. Here we gain a look at the discrepancies in personality of two people raised in wilderness and the hunting culture, and one raised in the city scape.
Now, for the problematic parts. The trio of characters come with some baggage that is unresolved. Jealousy makes for a poor plot contrivance. The director made a similar mistake is his film Back Country as well. And that's too bad as this interferes with what could have been a cleaner story.
Aside from that, this is a tight film with the second half a tense survival story.

This was not good. No hunter goes bow hunting without at least a .357 or better pistol, there are many reasons for this. There are so many unbelievable things that occur or that people do deliberately. Also the kooky non boyfriend friend seems mentally unstable. He hunts the area frequently every week in that area but has never seen signs of these wolves before. He is just jerky and so is the fiance who has no experience at all. So they go out under armed and with no epirb type device or cell phone. Todays cell phones even have emergency satellite access. Then the wacky behaviour of the wolves really does it. We deserved better Missy. I will go watch some Rookie Blue or Backcountry I guess.
No pun intended - this is quite borderline ... if you had fears of wolves, this will not soothe them. The effects are quite well done considering the low budget this has. And it is relatively short (run time wise), which is a good thing for anyone to enjoy and be with the movie from start to finish.
There is a lot of violence, a lot of action - I think it works for what it tries to do (suspense and giving you the insanity you came to watch this in the first place). Not sure I would rate the acting here ... also I hope this does not do what Jaws did to sharks ... well to wolves. Wolves actually are quite necessary in the wild. But we all know and acknowledge this is just a movie that tries to entertain ...

I'm so so happy I did not go by IMDb rating on this movie. When I saw it and looked it up, I saw Adam did this and was sold without second thought. Did not disappoint me, Adam!!! Please don't stop putting out such amazing content just because most people have no attention spans these days. This is up there with some of my favorite movies like this; the build on characters so that you feel the intense scenes so much more. Bravo!! Shame on anyone who gave this below a 7 or 8! Got dang yall, put down your phones and watch body language, conversations and atmosphere, it's so well done.
One more thing: Braaaaafckinvo, to all actors but Oscar for Missy!! Now I'm hungry for more like this.

A Thrilling Hunt for Survival
Adam MacDonald's "Out Come the Wolves" is a pulse-pounding survival thriller that expertly blends stunning visuals with intense suspense. The film follows a trio of friends on a hunting trip that takes a terrifying turn when they become trapped in a remote wilderness and hunted by a vicious pack of wolves.
The film's greatest strength lies in its ability to build tension and keep the audience on the edge of their seats. MacDonald's direction is masterful, utilizing the vast, unforgiving landscape to create a sense of isolation and dread. The cinematography is breathtaking, capturing the beauty and brutality of the wilderness with equal aplomb.
The performances are equally impressive. Missy Peregrym delivers a solid performance as Sophie, a skilled hunter who must confront her past and her fears in order to survive. Joris Jarsky and Damon Runyan also give solid performances as Sophie's friends, Kyle and Nolan.
While the plot may be somewhat predictable, "Out Come the Wolves" is a thrilling ride that never fails to entertain. The film's intense action sequences, combined with its exploration of themes of friendship, survival, and the power of nature, make it a must-see for fans of horror and thriller films.

Horrible characters that you really want to see die soon after you meet them. Very unrealistic wolf like behavior. The gore is decent, but the main characters are so horrible it ruins the experience. They're all very conceited and dumb; in their actions, their conversations and their attitude. Are we supposed to be cheering for the wolves?
This is much worse than The Grey, but at least that had Liam Nelson in it and the wolves were intimidating from a fantasy monster perspective. This movie tries to portray the wolves in a more realistic nature, but whoever wrote this couldn't even be bothered to Google wolf behavior.
Save your time, watch something better than this cheap attempt at forest fear.

These movies are usually the kind that I personally enjoy, even though they are often quite flawed. I thought this movie would involve a couple of people constantly being threatened by a pack of wolves and fighting them off for their survival, and I was excited to see that or something similar. Instead, the movie unfolds a little differently.
A guy invites his female friend and her soon-to-be husband to his cabin. After plenty of conversation and drama, it becomes clear that the guy has always had feelings for his female best friend and is obviously not okay with her getting married. The next day, he takes a short hunting trip on an ATV with the soon-to-be husband. Growing tensions between the two are suddenly interrupted by a couple of wolves. Up to this point, the movie seemed fine, but then the characters start acting like complete idiots.
For some reason, they have only a bow and barely any ammunition. The guy, who was initially portrayed as an experienced hunter, suddenly has a complete meltdown when he encounters the first wolf. Normally, a wolf would immediately run away, but in this movie, it becomes aggressive and starts attacking, which is fine as a concept. There are quite a few attack scenes, but they are mostly shot in extreme close-ups with lots of shaky cam, making it almost impossible to tell what's going on.
That approach worked in The Revenant with Leonardo DiCaprio for a more immersive experience, but the cinematographer in this movie clearly didn't have the same talent. During the carnage, you can only guess who or what is being bitten at any given moment. Additionally, the shots of wolves supposedly attacking are clearly just footage of wolves running through the forest with no aggression whatsoever. It all feels amateurish and inexperienced, which is surprising considering Adam MacDonald's previous films, Backcountry and Pyewacket. Both were solid, well-made movies, with Backcountry even being a similar survival thriller featuring a bear as the antagonist.
There are a few decent-looking makeup effects in the gore department, and the acting is overall solid, with Missy Peregrym standing out. However, this movie was barely enjoyable and left much to be desired. Annoyingly stupid characters and chaotic attack sequences sadly ruin what could have been a great survival thriller. [5,2/10]

Catching up with my 2024 horror films watch list brings me to this film. A typical premise of three people who go out to a cabin in the woods and then something nefarious happens. It's a girl, her fiancé, and her childhood friend (who is secretly in love with her) on a hunting trip that meets tragedy when they encounter a pack of wild wolves. It actually starts off real well as the time spent developing the relationship between the characters is well done (especially since the cast is better than expected). Sometime after the first wolf attack, the film falls flat pretty fast and never fully recovers. There are some great moments that will keep you entertained and engaged throughout but overall it's just a okay film. All the wolf footage looks amazing.
Sophie (Missy Peregrym) joins her childhood friend Kyle (Joris Jarsky) for a hunting trip. There is real chemistry between them. He even reminds her that she once promised to marry him when they turn 40 if they have no one else. Of course, she brings her boyfriend Nolan (Damon Runyan) although he is a completely clueless hunter unlike the two longtime friends. They are put to the test when they are attacked by a pack of wolves.
This is a lower grade indie. It could have elevated the tension much more. Basically, it needs to isolate the trio by sending them into the woods. Maybe their vehicle breaks down in the middle of nowhere. They are tracked by the wolf pack. They definitely should not have guns. The wolves should do more night attacks. Everything should be done to make the trio into underdogs and heighten the intensity.

Iconic, amazing, breathtaking, jaw dropping, incredible, original, and surprising. The third masterpiece from Adam MacDonald after Backcountry and Pyewacket. A terrifying survival thriller that leaves you gasping for breath. It's transportive and atmospheric. The cinematography and setting escalate the tension splendidly. Expect goosebumps to last throughout as the nail-biting series of events never releases you from the unnerving stranglehold. Really gripping movie from IFC Films. Both dark and mysterious, with great acting and interesting characters. Missy Peregrym gives the carrier the best performance after Backcountry.

I would like to request the last 88 minutes of my life back and I could only give 1 star but I'd like 2 stars back plus interest. This sucked no survival, no hunting education worth learning the wolf's atleast get 2 stars. But this movie made me make an account JUST to leave a review. I mean this was awful and I liked Jake and Jill with Adam Sandler.
I would like to meet the people who like this movie cause this sucked.... so much. Please do not waste the time and make a sequel to this it's pointless unless it's fish and game dispatching rabid wolf's. Then still don't waste the time and do it. Dumpster fire.

The story line kicked off to a great start, the acting was good for a while and then the movie started going up and down. Having lived in the woods for decades in a summer home, being around wolves, this movie for me was someone's depiction of how things might be based on pure imagination. The acting had some cheesy scenes, the hunting aspects was lame, not realistic, lame accidents, like someone took ideas and pasted them on a board, it didn't fit in well and was awkward to watch at times. They took a good story and in my opinion ruined what good have otherwise been an entertaining movie. I would have given this a 6 if the movie was remotely believable. I don't recommend it. It was barely a 4 out of 10.
I was actually rooting for the wolves 🐺 Hey, these hunters were on their territory so don't be shocked when animals do not want your presence. Another film, where people are not the brightest people in the world and make a lot of stupid decisions. The description says thriller, but not once was I ever caught up or cared about the characters
or story! Once these hunters started killing, I was on the animal's side. Kyle, you were one sweetheart of a guy and his character was so paint by numbers, Missy Peregrym did the best she could with the material she was given. The acting is okay at best. Come on, Hulu, please try a little harder!!
