Just a few weeks after The Purge 4 title was revealed to be The Island, the first two lead cast members have come aboard for this Purge prequel. Y'lan Noel (Insecure) and Lex Scott Davis (Training Day) are the first actors to officially sign on for the project, although it remains to be seen how many more main characters are still needed for the cast. While it hasn't been confirmed when production will begin, it will certainly have to begin soon, since the prequel is already set to hit theaters next summer.
The Tracking Board first broke the news, although there were no details given about the characters they play. James DeMonaco, who has written and directed all of the Purge movies and is also developing a Purge TV series, revealed in May that this story will take place during the first experimental Purge night, which happened on Staten Island, before this annual tradition went nationwide.

The twisted world of Dark/Web is slowly approaching. If you’ve ever needed a reason to fear the world the internet, this upcoming series is sure to give you one. With its healthy combination of both serialized and anthological storytelling, Dark/Web seems poised to scratch an itch that a lot of consumers are having.
If you’re unfamiliar with the digital series, here’s the official synopsis:
"When Ethan (Elerding), Sam (McKissack) and James (Nardelli) find themselves the target of cryptic emails from someone posing as their childhood friend Molly (Gonzales), they assume she’s been the victim of an all-too-common hack. After they reach out to alert her, however, they discover that Molly’s been missing for months and no one has any idea what happened to her.As the emails keep coming, each containing a tale written by Molly, her friends realize that this may be more than just a sick joke. Someone has hidden information in the stories, details pulled from real life that point them to people and places from Molly’s past; clues that may lead them to their missing friend."
In addition to the killer premise, each episode consists of a standalone anthology segment woven into its narrative. Today, we have some news involving one of those segements: “Rideshare.”
Thanks to the producers of Dark/Web, we now have the official banner for “Rideshare.” The banner was created by Tim Nardelli, and it gives us just a taste of what we can expect.

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from Season 3 of “Catastrophe.”]
Before her death in December, Carrie Fisher had already been recognized by the Television Academy via two previous Emmy nominations. But those nods – one in 2008, as a guest actress on “30 Rock,” and the other in 2011 for her special “Wishful Drinking” – ultimately didn’t translate to a win. Now, there’s a really good chance TV Academy voters will be moved to pay tribute to the beloved actress with an overdue posthumous statue.
While she appears on the big screen in the upcoming “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” Fisher made her final TV appearance on the Amazon comedy “Catastrophe,” which recently released its third season. Fisher portrays Mia, the rather obnoxious mother of Rob (Rob Delaney), an American man who moved to London to marry his one-week fling Sharon (Sharon Horgan) after she became pregnant.

The chronology of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films as a whole has been pretty straightforward. By and large, they tend to take place one after another in the same order as they were release. Of course, there are some exceptions. Captain America: The First Avenger was obviously a period piece, taking place decades prior to the rest of the Avengers’ origin stories (though it picked up right before The Avengers and after Thor, which puts it cleanly where one would expect in the timeline).
Other than that one, perhaps the only questionable film is Doctor Strange, which sometimes seems to take place around The Avengers, and sometimes feels like it starts off around the time of Captain America: Civil War, which brings into question how long everything took to happen in the film itself. That’s neither here nor there, but the point is that for the most part, the...

Sigourney Weaver is 67-years-old. Let that sink in for a moment. I was raised on incredible science fiction movies like Ghostbusters, Galaxy Quest, and the Alien films (just the first three, let us never speak of Alien: Resurrection). In my mind, Weaver will always be eternally 30-something, an intensely charismatic actor who lent a dynamic physicality and a rich intelligence to some of my favorite sci-fi films.

Today’s age of comic book movies really is an embarrassment of riches. Growing up, I remember assuming that any film based on my favorite comic book characters would likely fall short, and end up being a boring shadow of what I’d hoped it would be. Nowadays, we have the likes of Marvel Studios, Fox, and DC churning out ridiculously faithful fare that would be the envy of any comic book fan in decades past.
Of course, not every film is perfect. Marvel Studios and Fox don’t have perfect records, and the DC has had a hard time getting its own universe in order, and many tend to point to the tone established in Batman v Superman as one of the potential issues. The film was dark and grim, almost completely devoid of any humor. While that isn’t the only problem the flick had, it’s certainly the most cited,...

What in the world is up with Rey? That’s been a question on all Star Wars fans’ minds ever since we saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In a film franchise that tends to revolve around the Skywalker clan, it’s been unclear as to whether or not the new trilogy’s leading lady is actually of Skywalker descent, and if she is…which Skywalker? There’s no way it’s a giant coincidence that she happens to be incredibly force sensitive. Whoever she is, her parentage is going to be a big deal. Not just anybody could have such quick mastery of the Force.
However, in a franchise that has a tendency to sort of gloss over big details — and in a franchise where big answers can always be pushed over to the next film — it’s a valid concern that Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the next flick in the franchise,...

We may very well be in the middle of one of the greatest career renaissances in recent memory. M. Night Shyamalan is a filmmaker who started off his career with a bang. The Sixth Sense is still a flick that is highly relevant in the pop culture zeitgeist, and Shyamalan went to follow up that strong film with Unbreakable and Signs, proving that he was no one-hit wonder.
Of course, you can’t bring up Shyamalan without also bringing up the slump he fell into. There may be some debate as to when it started. Some say it started with Signs, some say The Village, but most can agree that his work started to get universally panned around the time of Lady in the Water. From The Happening through After Earth, it wasn’t clear if he would ever come back as the same creative force as he once was.

Universal is getting ready to officially kick off their shared monster movie universe this summer with Tom Cruise's new take on The Mummy. One such project is a Creature from the Black Lagoon remake and they have just hired Will Beall to pen the script.
According to Deadline, the former police officer turned screenwriter has been hired by Universal to write this new take on The Creature From the Black Lagoon. His most recent credit includes James Wan's Aquaman, which is set to hit theaters next December as part of Warner Bros. DC Extended Universe. Nailing down his rep as Hollywood’s go-to guy for the damp action genre, Aquaman screenwriter Will Beall is making his way over to Universal’s The Creature From The Black Lagoon. Beall—who also penned Gangster Squad and the TV version of Training Day, although there’s no fish parallels there, so whatevs—will write the reboot of the classic monster film, just the latest in the studio’s ongoing efforts to turn its old monster properties into a cinematic universe of its very own. Other potential entries in the franchise include Dracula, Frankenstein, the Invisible Man, the Bride of Frankenstein, Van Helsing, all of which would follow in the shambling footsteps of Tom Cruise’s The Mummy, which has a new trailer arriving this Sunday.

Winter and spring television seasons are the most crowded.
Maybe that's the reason they also deliver the most duds.
It's not even April yet, and we have more than enough disappointments to get us through the entire year, with another couple of hands full of new programs yet to air this spring!
Some of the series' misfortune comes because there seems to be an impasse between critics and viewers, and a critical review could mean viewers never see a show, but those who do fall in love with it. What does that even mean?
Do you agree or disagree that the following 11 programs were disappointments? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Luckily, with HBO’s Big Little Lies, the Oscar winner has triumphantly returned to her darkly comedic wheelhouse, and that was especially so with Sunday’s second episode.
