Exclusive: Amrit Kaur, best known for her role as Bela Malhotra in Max’s The Sex Lives of College Girls, has signed with Buchwald.

Kaur is an actor, writer, comedian, and activist. She believes in acting as a humanitarian art form with the power to heal, transcend, and empower.

Kaur was awarded Best Actor in A Feature Film for her dual character work in The Queen of My Dreams, at the 2024 Canadian Screen Awards. Her other credits include American Gothic, Kim’s Convenience, Hudson & Rex, Nurses and The D Cut.

She also works as a company member and actor at The Gracemoon Arts Company, founded to create a humanitarian hub for artists. This month, the company is opening the largest theatre in Brooklyn, NY, with a gallery and separate open mic salon.

Kaur continues to be repped by Etm Ltd. in Canada.

Two Dick Wolf joints, CBS’ FBI and NBC’s Chicago Med, have named new showrunners for their coming seasons, our sister site Deadline reports.

Last month it was announced that Rick Eid was stepping down as showrunner of FBI, after having launched the hit drama six years ago.

Glen Trotiner, who was first or second assistant director on such films as Captain America: The First Avenger, Independence Day and The Untouchables, along with Mozart in the Jungle, ER and dozens of other projects, has died. He was 65. Trotiner died June 16 in New York, but other details were not available.

A graduate of the Directors Guild of America Training Program, he worked on more than 100 movies and television shows during a four-decade career as an assistant director and/or co-producer, most recently working on Morbius and Gotham.

A Clueless TV series, based on the hit 1995 feature, is in development at Peacock.

The project, which hails from writers Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey (Will & Grace) and CBS TV Studios, has been in development since last October, but no network or streaming service was attached.

Peacock has landed the series reboot of “Clueless” centered on the character Dionne for development, Variety has learned exclusively.

The untitled comedy series is described a baby pink and bisexual blue-tinted, tiny sun-glasses wearing, oat milk latte and Adderall-fueled look at what happens when queen bee Cher disappears and her lifelong number two Dionne steps into Cher’s vacant Air Jordans. How does Dionne deal with the pressures of being the new most popular girl in school, while also unraveling the mystery of what happened to her best friend?

News of the show’s development was first reported last October, though no network or streaming service was attached at the time. Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey will serve as writers and executive producers on the project. Corrinne Brinkerhoff, Scott Rudin, the film’s producer Robert Lawerence, Eli Bush, and Tiffany Grant will also executive produce. CBS Television Studios will produce.

Director Lars Klevberg still wants to make a Child's Play sequel, provided the chance. But the ball, at this point, is firmly in MGM's court. The studio opted to reboot the franchise for the first time in its long history last year and the results were a bit mixed. While critical and fan response certainly wasn't bad out of the gate, it wasn't the financial runaway they were likely hoping for. Even so, Klevberg says the pieces are there to make it happen.

There have been no official discussions, at least not that have been revealed publicly, regarding Child's Play 2. But, taking to Instagram, Lars Klevberg expressed his desire to make a sequel happen. Exclusive: The CW has put in development a friends comedy from Hannah Marks (Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency), Ben Stiller’s Red Hour, No Tomorrow creator Corinne Brinkerhoff and CBS Television Studios, where Brinkerhoff is under a deal.

The Untitled Hannah Marks Project, written by Marks, is a five-minutes-in-the-future comedic drama about four female friends navigating their 20s. The show explores classic coming-of-age themes like love, friendship, identity and sexuality, all through a futuristic high-tech lens.

Marks serves as co-executive producer on the project. Stiller, Nicky Weinstock and Jackie Cohn executive produce for Stiller’s Red Hour with Brinkeroff and Tiffany Grant via Green Ribbon. CBS Television Studios is the studio.

Marks wrote and directed the 2018 feature After Everything starring Jeremy Allen White, Maika Monroe and Marisa Tomei. As an actress, Marks is known for her role as Amanda Brotzman on BBC America’s Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency.

Young actor Gabriel Bateman has been cast as the lead of Syfy pilot Cipher (working title), and Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn alum Kyla-Drew Simmons is set to co-star in the AI drama from Allison Miller (Strange Angel) and Universal Content Productions. Rough House Pictures (Halloween) is executive producing.

Written by Miller, in Cipher, following the recent death of his mother, 13-year-old video game junkie Asa’s (Bateman) life changes yet again when his brain is implanted with one-of-a-kind computer technology, and the boy and his father unwittingly find themselves at the center of the next great war – over artificial intelligence.

Simmons plays 16-year-old Annie, a mysterious figure Asa meets inside the video game. Although Annie seems to know a great deal about the game, she understands very little about the complexities of human relationships and the world outside the game.

Miller will executive produce via her overall deal with Ucp.

Young actor Gabriel Bateman, Parks and Rec alum Aubrey Plaza, and Atlanta star Brian Tyree Henry are set to star in MGM’s Child’s Play remake for Orion Pictures. Bateman will take on the role as Andy, Plaza will play Andy’s mom Karen, and Henry is Mike. Those characters originated in the 1988 version which went on to gross $44 million worldwide, spawned six sequels, and created one of the most well-known characters in the horror genre.

Polaroid helmer Lars Klevberg is set to direct the film, which will mark Klevberg’s second feature. The plot, based on the original, follows a mother (Plaza) who gives her son (Bateman) a toy doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature.

Friendly exes Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Meyer recreated one of America’s most iconic — and most parodied — paintings, Grant Wood’s American Gothic, while visiting the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City.

The duo perfectly imitated the painting, which depicts a farmer holding a pitchfork standing next to a woman who appears to be either his daughter or wife. Mimicking their two-dimensional counterparts, Maguire and Meyer stood side-by-side, mirroring the body language and blank expressions of Wood’s characters.

Start out 2018 with some of the latest releases from Scream Factory! Though they’re probably best known for releasing definitive Blu-ray editions of many of our most treasured horror movies, one of the things I like best about Scream Factory is their willingness to use their brand to put out smaller films and oddball curiosities that would probably not otherwise see the light of day on the format. Hey, "Grey's Anatomy" fans. We've got some extra great news for you guys that we think you'll certainly enjoy hearing. Recently, the folks over at Deadline recently put out a report revealing that ABC is so pleased with the way the current season 14 is going that they decided to extend it! That's right. Apparently, ABC only originally ordered 22 episodes for this season, but now they've bumped that number up to a full 24. That means you guys can expect to get an additional two more episodes before this season is over. How do you guys feel about that? We're sure most of you are ecstatic about it. In addition to ABC extending out Grey's Anatomy's 14th season, Deadline also reported that ABC gave their hit comedy series "Black-ish" another two episodes, and they gave their show American Housewife another two episodes. That gave both of those series a total 24 episodes each.

Hey, "Grey's Anatomy" fans. We've got some very interesting new casting news for you guys in regards to this current season 14. Recently, the folks over at Entertainment Weekly put out a new article revealing that the show has hired former"One Tree Hill" actress Bethany Joy Lenz. If any of you were "One Tree Hill" fans, you'll remember her as the one who played character Haley James Scott on that show. Entertainment Weekly pointed out that this new casting comes just after they got rid of season regular Martin Henderson aka Dr. Nathan Riggs. Bethany is scheduled to just be a guest character on Grey's Anatomy. So, it doesn't sound like she'll be sticking around for long. She might come in and do an arc that spans a few episodes and then head out. But, who knows? Anything can happen. She might stick around the whole season if they decide its better for the show.

The Tremors worms are coming for a new set of actors: Megan Ketch — who fronted CBS’ American Gothic and recurred on Jane the Virgin as Susanna Barnett — will star opposite Kevin Bacon in Syfy’s sequel pilot.

Emily Tremaine (Guilt, Vinyl) and Shiloh Fernandez (Gypsy) have also been cast in the project, which takes place 25 years after the 1990 cult hit about an invasion of killer worms (aka “Graboids”) that wreak havoc on an unsuspecting Nevada desert town. That's what I'm thinking as we learn CBS decided to pull the plug on two of its three scripted summer series, BrainDead and American Gothic.

American Gothic was about a family with close ties to a serial killer from the past and the havoc being created from a killer in the present. There was a resolution, the killer was revealed and that's more than we can say about a lot of shows.

BrainDead, too, was given a satisfactory ending, there was a happy ending for the main couple, the aliens were defeated and those who were taken over by the aliens were left in a somewhat reformed, if less than perfect state than they were before.

BrainDead was arguably the more successful of the two series.

CBS has axed summer dramas “BrainDead” and “American Gothic” after one season each, TheWrap has learned. Both dramas debuted to disappointing ratings this summer before coming to an end in September. Of the network’s scripted summer series, only “Zoo” remains on the air. The TV adaptation of the James Patterson novel was renewed for Season 3 in August. Created by “The Good Wife” duo Robert and Michelle King and ordered straight-to-series last July, “BrainDead” came as part of CBS’s push into scripted fare for the summer. However, the Mary Elizabeth Winstead-led drama only managed 4.5 million viewers and a 0.7 rating.

CBS wound up 0-for-2 with this past summer’s new offerings, as neither BrainDead nor American Gothic will be returning for second seasons, sources tell TVLine.

Colony‘s resident computer whiz Morgan is undergoing a bit of a reboot.

The USA Network thriller has tapped One Tree Hill alum Bethany Joy Lenz to join the Season 2 cast as the Resistance-allegiant software engineer, a role originated by American Beauty actress Thora Birch, Deadline reports.

Reality TV continues to be the best option in the ratings department this summer. 

NBC: America's Got Talent (10.5 million/2.1 rating) and The Night Shift (5.6 million/1.1 rating) continued to pull in solid ratings. 

CBS: Big Brother (6.4 million/2.0 rating) and American Gothic (2.6 million/0.5 rating) were both up. An encore of Criminal Minds (3.3 million/0.7 rating) was another encore.

Fox: Masterchef (4.1 million/1.3 rating) picked up steam. 

The CW: Penn & Teller: Fool Us (1.5 million/0.4 rating) and Whose Line Is It Anyway? (1.2 million/0.4 rating) were in line with last week's results. 

ABC: The Goldbergs (2.6 million/0.8 rating), Modern Family (2.8 million/0.9 rating) and Black-ish (2.3 million/0.7 rating) were in encores.

CBS’ Big Brother this Wednesday drew 6.5 million total viewers and a 2.1 demo rating (per finals), up 10 and 17 percent week-to-week to hit highs for any night this cycle and tying America’s Got Talent for the nightly demo win.

CBS isn’t being cagey: It has renewed Zoo for a third season, ahead of next month’s Season 2 finale.The network announced the renewal Wednesday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour.

To date, the drama’s sophomore run is averaging better numbers (4.5 million total viewers and a 0/8 demo rating) than fellow CBS summertime series American Gothic (2.9 mil/0.6) and BrainDead (3.1 mil/0.5).

In July, Zoo star James Wolk told Michael Ausiello that the show’s two-hour Season 2 finale — which airs Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 9/8c — is a cliffhanger.

CBS has ordered a third season of drama series Zoo to air in summer 2017. Zoo was the only CBS summer scripted series from last year to return. CBS: Big Brother(5.8 million/1.8 rating) perked up to be the top show of the night. American Gothic (2.5 million/0.5 rating) was even out of an encore of Criminal Minds (2.7 million/0.7 rating).

ABC: Cma Music Festival (5.5 million/1.1 rating) was down a bit from last year's telecast.
