Back in 2019, it was announced that Ben Wheatley would be writing, directing, and executive producing Generation Z, a “hilarious, frightening, and political” series that would consist of six hour-long episodes that would “mix flesh-eating zombies into a story that satirizes how Brexit has divided the UK.” That project didn’t make it into production when it was originally supposed to because of the pandemic shutdown… but after making Meg 2: The Trench (you can read our review at This Link and check out our interview with the filmmaker Here), Wheatley circled back around to Generation Z. The show started airing on Channel 4 last October… and now, it has been confirmed that it will not get a second season.

Written and directed by Lindgaard, the project delves into “the fragility of a family through a child’s imagination and sense of the world.”

Following recent reports claiming that both Mark Strong and Mark Rylance could be in contention to play Albus Dumbledore in HBO's Harry Potter series, we're now hearing that John Lithgow is officially in talks for the role.
Lithgow has appeared in a multitude of film and TV projects over the years, including Dexter, Footloose, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Interstellar. More recently, he played key roles in Conclave and FX's prematurely cancelled The Old Man.

HBO’s series adaptation of “Harry Potter” may have found its Dumbledore. John Lithgow is close to closing a deal to portray the iconic character, according to multiple media reports.
The series is expected to begin filming this summer in Leavesden. Previously, all eight of the Warner Bros. “Harry Potter” movies were filmed in the English commercial area.
“We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumor and speculation. As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalize deals,” HBO said in a statement to TheWrap.
The headmaster of Hogwarts was previously portrayed by Richard Harris in the film adaptations of “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” and “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.” Michael Gambon then took over the role in the six other “Harry Potter” films, and Jude Law portrayed the character in the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise.

Cillian Murphy has been a fan-favorite pick to play the villainous Voldemort in HBO's upcoming Harry Potter series since we first got word on the project, and we're now hearing that the Oppenheimer star could be in line for a different role - though this character is very closely connected to He Who Must not be Named!
According to scooper Daniel Richtman, the Academy Award-winner is being "eyed to play Professor Quirinus Quirrell in the Harry Potter show."
Quirrell was a half-blood wizard who became the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor during the 1991–1992 school year. It was later revealed that he was actually a servant of Voldemort, who had taken over his body by transforming him into a temporary Horcrux.
This would seem like a fairly minor part for an actor of Murphy's status, so if he is indeed being eyed to play Quirrell, is there a chance...

In 2009, the British High Court found Corby Borough Council guilty of negligence for its mismanagement of toxic waste in the Northamptonshire town over a span of fifteen years between 1984 and 1999. Though dubbed "the British Erin Brockovich," the story of the Corby poisonings — and of the band of mothers who courageously confronted and fought their town's leadership for justice as they raised children with toxic waste-related birth defects — is one you likely haven't heard. Until now, that is. In Netflix's new four-part limited series Toxic Town, penned by prolific writer Jack Thorne, the monumental environmental scandal and the landmark case associated with it is dramatised through the lens of the women — led by Jodie Whittaker, Aimee Lou Wood (Sex Education), and Claudia Jessie (Bridgerton) — whose love for their kids overcame a Goliath sized display of institutional greed and negligence. Check out the trailer for the drama below:

David Tennant, Robert Carlyle and Toby Jones will lead a new ITV Studios-commissioned series about the U.K.’s phone-hacking scandal, The Hack.
Written by Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, His Dark Materials), the seven-part drama is produced by the team from Mr Bates vs The Post Office — a show that set Britain alight with its exposure of gross maltreatment and a miscarriage of justice when hundreds of subpostmasters were wrongly accused of theft and fraud due to a faulty computer system (the show’s impact led the U.K. government to announce new legislation to exonerate the wrongly convicted subpostmasters).
Set between 2002 and 2012, The Hack interweaves two real-life stories, including the work of investigative journalist Nick Davies (Tennant), who uncovered evidence of phone-hacking at the Rupert Murdoch-owned publisher News Group Newspaper, specifically the News of the World tabloid.

28 Days Later director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland have finally reunited to make a sequel to their zombie movie classic. As we reporter earlier this year, this sequel is set up at Sony, is going to be called 28 Years Later – and it’s meant to launch a whole trilogy of 28 Days Later sequels. In fact, when producer Andrew Macdonald confirmed that filming on 28 Years Later had wrapped back in August, he followed that up by saying that they were about to start working on the second chapter in this trilogy. The sequel, 28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple, wrapped production in October. 28 Years Later is set to reach theatres on June 20th, 2025, and 28 Years Later Part II: The Bone...

After the internet went wild speculating that the zombie featured in the excellent 28 Years Later trailer was a zombified Jim, the character played by Cillian Murphy in 2002’s 28 Days Later, Empire Magazine has confirmed that the actor won’t appear at all in the upcoming first entry in the planned trilogy.
Director Danny Boyle reteams with writer Alex Garland on 28 Years Later, with Murphy serving as executive producer, which has only fueled the expectation that Jim would return.
Producer Andrew Macdonald told Empire of Murphy’s hopeful return, “[On] this, we wanted him to be involved, and he wanted to be involved. He is not in the first film, but I’m hoping there will be some Jim somewhere along the line. He’s involved at the moment as an executive producer, and I would hope we can work with him in some way in the future in the trilogy.

This article contains spoilers for His Dark Materials. His Dark Materials was one of the best fantasy series on TV in 2019, with Dafne Keen providing many of its best moments. The young actress played the main character, Lyra Belacqua, in the adaptation of Philip Pullman's hugely successful YA book series, His Dark Materials. Every season of His Dark Materials had something unique to offer, and Keen matured as the series did. Getting older as the story got darker made Keen perfectly poised to embody the changing tone and complexity of the adaptation, leading her to define some of the show's most memorable arcs.
Along with His Dark Materials' witches and Marisa Coulter, Lyra represents one of the strongest female characters in fantasy in the 2010s. Mrs. Coulter met her match in her stubborn daughter, appropriately. It was incredibly impressive that Keen could hold her own against Wilson's seasoned talent while filming His Dark Materials,...

One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland,...

Earlier this week, we got word that Paapa Essiedu was in talks to play Severus Snape in HBO's Harry Potter TV series, and Deadline has now thrown a few more names into the mix for several other prominent supporting characters.
It's safe to say that fans might be surprised by some of the actors that are reportedly being eyed for certain roles!
Though "no formal offers" have been made, Dune: Prophecy star Mark Strong is said to be in contention to play Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore (along with the previously-reported Mark Rylance), with Bad Sisters co-creator/star Sharon Horgan and Constantine and The Mummy alum Rachel Weisz eyed for Deputy Headmistress Minerva McGonagall.
Finally, Ted Lasso and Thor: Love and Thunder actor Brett Goldstein is reportedly in line to play Hagrid.
HBO is playing this one very close to the vest, and has responded with the same statement for every...

Imagine this: a world where the dark arts aren’t just a tale told by wizards in cloaks. Where the infamous dark lord, Lord Voldemort, isn’t played by Ralph Fiennes, but by someone whose cheekbones could cut glass and whose acting chops could shatter them. That someone is none other than James McAvoy.

And then the world of Harry Potter could’ve looked very different. McAvoy, with his impeccable ability to play characters with a lot of shades of gray (both literally and figuratively), once had the chance to don the robes of one of the most infamous villains in literary history. But he turned it down. Yes, the man who’s fought mutants, navigated a fractured mind, and faced ancient gods, said ‘no’ to step into the shoes of the most infamous dark wizard ever.
But why would he turn down such an opportunity?...

The runtime for season 1 of HBO's Harry Potter series has been confirmed. Francesca Gardiner, whose previous work includes Succession, Killing Eve, and His Dark Materials, is the showrunner for the series, while Game of Thrones and The Menu's Mark Mylod is an executive producer and director. HBO's Harry Potter has been touted as a faithful adaptation of the seven Harry Potter books, with filming set to commence during the summer of 2025.
As per the official Harry Potter website, Gardiner and Mylod shared that "We have 8 hours to tell the first book, so we can dig into the real depths and crevices and how the language of magic can evolve." With many HBO series having hour-long episodes, this means that Harry Potter season 1 will likely consist of eight episodes. Previous comments and the revealed filming window have indicated that the series is expected to debut in late 2026 or in 2027.

Según informa The Hollywood Reporter, el actor británico Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You) es el favorito de HBO para interpretar a Severus Snape en la serie de Harry Potter, descrita como una fiel adaptación de los libros de J.K. Rowling.

Though nothing is 100% official just yet, it looks like HBO may have found our small-screen Snape.
THR is reporting that British actor Paapa Essiedu is now in talks to play Hogwarts' cunning potions master, Professor Severus Snape, in the upcoming Harry Potter series. Essiedu is said to have been offered the part, but it's not clear if negotiations have begun in earnest.
Essiedu has appeared in the likes of Black Mirror, Gangs of London, The Lazarus Project, and I May Destroy You, as well as movies such as Men, The Outrun, and Femme.
This take on Snape is described as the "wickedly smart and casually cruel Hogwarts potions master who comes across as the story’s primary antagonist in the show’s first season." The character was previously played by the late Alan Rickman in Warner Bros.' eight Harry Potter movies.
HBO said in a statement, “We appreciate that...

HBO is currently hard at work on a TV series based on J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter books, and the world is holding its breath. We're talking about one of the most successful stories of the past few decades. The Harry Potter movies are modern classics and the books remain beloved, although Rowling has complicated that in recent years by publicly airing her transphobic views.
Still, the TV show will be a big deal. Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and her team are already looking for people to play the likes of Harry, Ron, Hermione and Dumbledore, and HBO is aiming for a 2027 release date.
That's according to Deadline, which put together a little profile on Gardiner, who's previously worked on shows like Killing Eve, Succession and His Dark Materials. She isn't a household name, but that resume is pretty good; her work on His Dark Materials, another TV show adapted from...
