When Kaitlin Olson announced that she would be leading a linear television series on a major broadcaster, in one of ABC’s newest projects, High Potential, fans were cautiously optimistic. For nearly two decades, we’ve known her as Sweet Dee Reynolds, a member of the raucous and outrageous group of friends at the center of FX’s smash-hit dark comedy series,It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. When she broke out on her own the first time around via the gone-too-soon Fox series, The Mick, viewers initially flocked to the title, but the numbers just couldn’t keep it alive and thriving past the second season mark. But, that doesn’t seem like it will be an issue for High Potential, as nearly one month since the first season celebrated its finale, the show is still in Disney+ and Hulu’s Top 10 charts around the world.

Kate Hudson has had a robust career, but “Running Point” marks a first for the actress. Believe it or not, this is her first leading TV role.
Now streaming on Netflix, the series focuses on Isla Gordon (Hudson), as she’s unexpectedly given control of her family’s basketball team, the Waves. Though a fictional team and story, “Running Point” is loosely based on Lakers president Jeanie Buss.
Here are all the major players you’ll need to know in the series.

Kaitlin Olson is one of the unsung comedic actors of our day. Yes, she's been in one of the longest-running scripted comedy series of all time with It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but at times it's felt like she's been doing amazing work for a tiny audience, locked away in the Fxx closets. She tried to break through into a bigger mainstream with Fox's sitcom The Mick, which began strong with nearly nine million live viewers before dropping to two million and staying that way. There have been other fits and starts throughout a career full of great supporting characters, but Olson's never experienced the glowing success she's deserved until High Potential, which just ended its first season on ABC and broke a bevy of records along the way.

The gang might not be too thrilled about this one. Actually, they’re probably nothing but happy and supportive of their girl, Kaitlin Olson, as she steps out from behind the bar at Paddy’s Pub in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and finds additional success on the ABC procedural, High Potential. Right now, the crime drama holds an impressive critics’ approval rating of 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, while Olson’s long-running raucous comedy comes in just behind at 94%. To be fair, It’s Always Sunny has been on the air for more than a decade, with Season 17 on the way, while High Potential has yet to wrap up its debut season, so there’s plenty of time for those scores to shift. However, it’s a great sign that Olson’s new show is off to such a great start, considering the upsetting cancellation that her previous side project, The Mick,...

There is some confusion about whether or not actress Kaitlin Olson is one of the Olsen twins.
Kaitlin Olson, known for her role as Dee Reynolds on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, has had a successful career spanning television and film, including starring in The Mick and voicing Destiny in Finding Dory.
She has also received multiple Emmy nominations, including for her role as DJ in Hacks, and currently stars in the ABC crime drama High Potential.

What films cracked you up in 2024? Or, more specifically, what moments in movies made you laugh the hardest? Sometimes, a film can be generally meh but contains a scene or a performance so funny that you can forgive its shortcomings. Likewise, a serious drama might include something so darkly hilarious that’s shockingly effective precisely because it’s completely unexpected. And, of course, there are the unfortunate unintentional laughs that can happen when a woefully inept movie falls flat on its face. Hey, we’ll take our laughs however we can.
Below, I’ve counted down the 34 funniest moments in movies this year. Maybe the films themselves weren’t amazing — although some of them certainly were — but they had something so clever or amusing that I never forgot it. Also, I left room for a few instances in which internet users enhanced a movie’s comedic impact by introducing a...

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Glenn Howerton scored rave reviews for his turn in the sitcom A.P. Bio — and the show deserved much better than an early cancelation. Since its four seasons arrived on Netflix, A.P. Bio has climbed the streaming charts to become a huge success. It’s a shame that success has come so late, because the series always struggled for viewership when it was actually on the air. In its initial run, it got canceled due to low viewership (more than once).
Howerton leads the A.P. Bio cast as Jack Griffin, a Harvard professor who’s forced to go back to his hometown and work at a high school after losing his dream job to his academic rival. This role made great use of the comedic strengths that Howerton has refined on It’s Always Sunny. Like Dennis Reynolds, Jack is vindictive and filled with rage.

Only seven episodes into the first season of High Potential, Kaitlin Olson’s crime drama is already ABC’s most-watched new series in six years — so where were these hordes of fans when The Mick needed saving?
On High Potential, Olson plays Morgan, a self-confident single mother of three who works as a cleaning lady for the LAPD. However, and unlike a certain janitor from another Olson project, Morgan is not-so-secretly a “high potential” intellectual with an Iq of 160. In the first episode, which a staggering 20 million viewers have watched since its premiere this past September 17th, Morgan successfully Good-Will-Huntings herself into a consultant position at the police department by cracking open a murder case during her graveyard shift.
And just like that, Olson isn’t just the biggest wise-ass at the LAPD – she’s one of the biggest stars in all of television. Nearly two decades after Olson made...

High Potential star Kaitlin Olson is most known for her iconic performance as Dee Reynolds on Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia. She also gives a great performance as DJ on Hacks, playing alongside the incredible Jean Smart. But, one of her most interesting and hilarious performances was on a lesser-known show, the underrated 2017 Fox sitcom The Mick. Unfortunately, The Mick was cancelled after only two seasons, but while it was on, it was the wildest sitcom on network TV. It seems hard to believe now, because she fits in so perfectly to a network procedural on High Potential, but Olson admitted to Variety that when she first took the role in The Mick, she was nervous to do a network show after so much time in the cable world. But, from The Micks very first episode, she proved she had nothing to be nervous about.

Fox is developing a comedy series centered on a washed up golf prodigy, Variety has learned exclusively.
Titled “Thunderjacks,” the series has received a script commitment at the broadcast network. Chad Mountain is writing and executive producing, with Oliver Hudson, John Stalberg Jr., Douglas Banker of Five All in the Fifth, Jonathan Watson, and Scott MacArthur also executive producing. Fox Entertainment Studios will produce.
The official logline for the series states, “A famous former golf prodigy, who vanished into anonymity after a very public meltdown, is dragged into the limelight a decade later, forcing his dysfunctional family to futilely scramble to save their opulent lifestyle and fragile egos.”
There is no cast currently attached to the project, but sources say it could serve as a starring vehicle for Hudson should it go forward. The show falls under the broadcast direct deal Hudson and his producing partner Stalberg signed with Fox in 2023. Under that deal,...

When audiences first meet Morgan Gillory (Kaitlin Olson) on ABC's High Potential, she's making her way to the LAPD for her night shift as their maid. With "Heavy Cross" by Gossip playing, Morgan dances (literally) her way through the police department until she knocks over a file box. That's when audiences begin to really learn about Morgan -- she's got observational and memory skills that make her both a bit of an oddball and the person the LAPD absolutely wants helping them solve cases.

It also got the highest rating, excluding linear encores, for an ABC premiere since Big Sky's debut episode in 2020, which featured Ryan Phillippe. High Potential is setting the bar,...

Another fall TV season is upon us, which means a fresh batch of network procedurals that can roughly be described as The ____ Who Solves Crimes. (Lucifer, The Devil Who Solves Crimes! Sleepy Hollow, The Ichabod Crane Who Solves Crimes!) ABC’s latest entry in the genre, High Potential — premiering Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 10/9c; I’ve seen the first three episodes — is basically The Genius Single Mom Who Solves Crimes, and it honestly doesn’t do much to reinvent the procedural wheel. But it’s still a satisfying underdog tale with a sly sense of humor, thanks to a fantastic lead performance from Kaitlin Olson.

It's a raucous, raunchy, ridiculous night of debauchery featuring a 14-year-old running a control room of spy cams, plenty of upperclassmen making the beast with two backs in random open bedrooms, a science teacher desperately trying to appear cool by taking shots of Fireball and ripping bongs with students, fist fights leading to broken noses, accidentally falling into a K-hole, running from the cops, and drunkenly sharting out a night's worth of Taco Bell binge-eating.
"Incoming" is an attempt to merge the tradition of beloved high school stories with the over-the-top screwball sex comedies of the 1970s and '80s, and when it works, it really works. Similar to recent high...

Dave and John Chernin are taking audiences back to the time of R-rated teen comedies with Incoming. The sibling creative duo first kicked off their career as both writers and executive story editors on the long-running comedy It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, having worked on 30 episodes of the hit show, ranging from "The Gang Goes to the Jersey Shore" and "Mac and Dennis Buy a Timeshare", among others. They also went on to create the Fox sitcom, The Mick, which was led by Sunny star Kaitlin Olson and ran for two seasons.
With Incoming, the Chernins are making their feature directorial debut and telling the story of Benj, a high school freshman who, with his friends Eddie, Connor and Koosh, anxiously kick off their high school experience by going to a party thrown by Koosh's older brother. One party will make or break four highschoolers' freshman year in Incoming. The Netflix comedy primarily centers on Benj, Eddie, Connor and Koosh and one wild night for the group as Koosh's older brother hosts a first-week-of-school party, though only Benj is able to get in, which he takes as an opportunity to try and make a move on his sister's best friend, Bailey. Eddie and Connor, meanwhile, embark on their own journey as they steal the former's mom's boyfriend's car and get caught up in increasingly chaotic situations.
Incoming features a cast of young up-and-coming actors, with The Black Phone breakout Mason Thames starring as Benj, with Grey's Anatomy alum Bardia Seiri starring as Koosh and Disney Channel alums Ramon Reed (Just Roll With It) and Raphael Alejandro (Bunk'd) playing Eddie and Connor. Who Does Thomas Barbusca Play in Netflix's Incoming? Meet the 'Scumbag' Ruby - Main Image
Why does Thomas Barbusca from Netflix's Incoming look familiar? Benji's scumbag of a brother has surprisingly been cast in high school movies in more ways than one. Here's why the award-winning star looks familiar.
Award-Winning Actor Thomas Barbusca Kills It as Ruby on Netflix's Incoming
Thomas Barbusca has had quite the blast before coming onto Netflix as the 'worst student' in Benji's high school. If anything, Barbusca thrives in exactly that: playing the part of being a high schooler.
His first rising credit goes to being Peanuts Halloween Skit Linus in an episode from 2012's Conan before he went off to take more small roles as a kid in New Girl, Sam & Cat, and even lending his voice as Malakevin on Cartoon Network's animated show Clarence.

Comedies focused on teenage hijinks and keg parties have been a mainstay since the 1980s. You can learn a lot about a generation in their party movies. Incoming hopes to join the ranks of Superbad, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and Bottoms. Instead, it lands with a resounding thud, making it one of the worst modern attempts at crafting a raunchy high school flick.
Incoming – The Plot
Over the summer, Benj Nielsen (Mason Thames) hung out with his sister’s friend Bailey (Isabella Ferreira). While Bailey is older, Benj believes he has a chance to hook up with the girl he’s loved his whole life. When his friend Koosh (Bardia Seiri) gets their friend group invited to a party (hosted by Koosh’s older brother), Benj seizes his chance. With their other friends, Connor (Raphael Alejandro) and Eddie (Ramon Reed), the four freshmen hope to change their high school fate.

Netflix has finally released the raunchy teen comedy Incoming, and this film will easily remind you of classic teen comedies like Fast Times at Ridgemont High and the American Pie movies. We had the opportunity to watch the film in advance before its release, and after watching it, we have to say it's a pretty solid movie.
It's a comedy written and helmed by The Mick creators Dave and John Chernin, the sons of well-known film producer and businessman Peter Chernin. This film marks their feature debut. It stars Mason Thames (Benj), Raphael Alejandro (Connor), Bardia Seiri (Koosh), and Ramon Reed (Eddie) as four friends starting their freshman year of high school. It's their first week at Waymont High School, and while the teen boys are ready to see what the school year may bring, they're really looking forward to experiencing their first-ever high school party.

The gross-out high school comedy: we all get older, they stay the same. “Incoming” marks the genre’s latest addition, a Netflix release written and directed by Dave and John Chernin, who cut their teeth on the landmark vulgarity of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” before creating the short-lived but memorably raucous Fox comedy “The Mick.” The filmmaking brothers’ story for “Incoming” is chock-full of tried-and-true tropes: the rizzless freshman, the grump sister, the wannabe ladies’ man, the blond queen bee. But the Chernins manage a jaunty pace that energizes these familiar ingredients, more in the gag department than in the film’s superficial dramatic components.
Fourteen-year-old boys aren’t the most complicated people on Earth, and “Incoming” knows it, establishing its main ensemble with a punchy opening act that benefits from the Chernins’ sitcom background. Four uncertain young men have entered the gauntlet of high school. Benj (Mason Thomas...

Raucous teen film about out-of-control high school party never finds its footing, relying on tiresome gross-out humor
There are a few tried and true staples of the American high school: yellow buses, homecoming, prom, the social safari that is the school cafeteria. And with each micro-generation, raunchy teen movies about trying to get some or remain a loser for life. Incoming, a new Netflix teen film from The Mick creators Dave and John Chernin, is the latest attempt to revive the type of outrageous R-rated comedy that Hollywood now makes in fits and starts. Like last year’s No Hard Feelings, Joy Ride or Bottoms, it’s trying to channel the unfiltered debauchery of American Pie or Superbad, but for kids born after both of those movies premiered.
As in both of those antecedents, Incoming focuses on one pod at the bottom of the food chain: nerdy freshman boys who haven’t grown yet.

Incoming is full of shit — well, one scene is, anyway. The high school comedy, which starts streaming on Netflix on Friday, concerns some uncool male buddies starting their freshman year and trying to navigate the first blowout party of their young lives. In one sequence, a couple of the friends, through some crazy circumstances, end up driving their school’s most gorgeous girl home. She’s really drunk, though, and, well, let’s just say an impromptu trip to Taco Bell turns out not to be a good idea at all. The result is one of the most revolting gross-out scenes in modern comedy. It’s a moment that the writer-director brothers Dave and John Chernin have had in their back pocket, waiting for the right opportunity.
“Man, that was an idea that we’ve had for a long time,” Dave, 39, says over Zoom, laughing. “We didn’t quite know...

“You’ve gotta go with a Cheesy Gordita Crunch,” Dave Chernin says as he scrolls through the options on the digital kiosk at a Taco Bell Cantina in Chelsea. “I’m ordering one for you too, “ he assures John Chernin, his older brother (by 15 months) and writing and directing partner.
The siblings are in New York City to promote “Incoming,” a high school comedy about four nerdy friends that’s a raunchy throwback to movies — like “Superbad” and “American Pie” — that topped the box office back before superhero flicks subsumed Hollywood. And yes, the Chernins know there’s more authentic Mexican food to be had in the neighborhood, but we’re thinking outside the bun as a tribute to an outrageous scene in their R-rated film. It’s one that finds two freshmen (Ramon Reed and Raphael Alejandro) taking an intoxicated older classmate (Loren Gray) on a chalupa run. Given...

NBC’s Chicago P.D. will welcome Toya Turner in a series regular role for Season 12, Deadline has confirmed. She will portray police officer Yara Page.
This is not Turner’s first time in a One Chicago series. She appeared in both Chicago Fire and Chicago Med but in totally different characters from her P.D. role.
Turner joins the series following Tracy Spiridakos’s exit as Detective Hailey Upton after 8 seasons in the Season 11 finale. Before that, Jesse Lee Soffer also said goodbye to the team as Jay Halstead and Hailey’s now ex-husband.
Fans have been asking for many seasons for a love interest for Atwater (Laroyce Hawkins). Could Yara and Kevin hit it off romantically? We’ll have to wait and see.

Netflix has just released the trailer for the new raunchy high school comedy from the Chernin brothers — Dave Chernin and John Chernin — who are veterans of irreverent shows It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and the tragically cut-short Fox sitcom The Mick. The Chernins reunite with The Mick‘s Kaitlin Olson and Thomas Barbusca in Incoming. The cast includes Mason Thames, Ramon Reed, Raphael Alejandro, Isabella Ferreira, Bardia Seiri, Loren Gray, Ali Gallo, Scott MacArthur, Thomas Barbusca, Kim Hawthorne, Victoria Moroles, Kayvan Shai, with Kaitlin Olson and Bobby Cannavale.
The short but sweet synopsis reads,
“Incoming is the story of one night in the life of a group of high school freshmen, the party they crash, and the chaos that ensues.”
Dave and John Chernin write and direct the film. The producers on the movie include Nicholas Stoller, Conor Welch, Todd Garner, Mark Korshak, Gary Barber, Peter Oillataguerre, Peter Principato and Ben Silverman.

On Olson's side will be her detective partner, Daniel Sunjata.
Sunjata is known for his roles as Paul Briggs on Graceland and Franco Rivera on Rescue Me.
The procedural is based on the popular French series Haut Potentiel Intellectuel.
High Potential is written by Drew Goddard, who serves as an executive producer with Sarah Esberg for Goddard Textiles.
Rob Thomas serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Dan Etheridge, Pierre Laugier, Anthony Lancret, and Jean Nainchrik.
Alethea Jones is the director and executive producer. Olson serves as producer.

Norman Lear, the writer, producer and citizen activist who coalesced topical conflict and outrageous comedy in such wildly popular sitcoms as All in the Family, Maude, Good Times, Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman and The Jeffersons, has died. He was 101.
Lear died Tuesday at his home in Los Angeles surrounded by his family who, according to a statement on his official Instagram account, sang songs until the very end.
“Norman lived a life in awe of the world around him. He marveled at his cup of coffee every morning, the shape of the tree outside his window, and the sounds of beautiful music,” read the post. “But it was people — those he just met and those he knew for decades — who kept his mind and heart forever young. As we celebrate his legacy and reflect on the next chapter of life without him, we would like to thank everyone for all the love and support.

High Potential, a new series starring It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia favorite Kaitlin Olson, is back on track for a 2024 premiere on ABC.
A remake of the French series Haut Potentiel Intellectuel (Hpi), High Potential stars Olson as a "single mom with an exceptional mind, whose unconventional knack for solving crimes leads to an unusual and unstoppable partnership with a by-the-book seasoned detective," per the series description. It was originally slated to premiere on ABC this year, but it's now been pushed back to Fall 2024 on the network following the strike's conclusion.
