Screenwiter Zak Penn (Ready Player One) will script an adaptation of the Hasbro (Parker Bros) toy and subsequent Marvel Comics/Idw series "Rom: Spaceknight", for Allspark Pictures and Paramount:
"...the first comic book series follows 'Rom', an earthbound 'cyborg' from a utopian society on the planet 'Galador', his defeat by the invading 'Dire Wraith' alien race and the continuation of their battle on Earth.
"Unlike the technologically advanced 'Galadorian' civilization, the Dire Wraiths rely primarily on dark magic and their power to change their appearance.
"Years before Rom's arrival on Earth, Galador is threatened by a fleet of ships manned by the Dire Wraiths. Galador's ruler, the 'Prime Director', calls for volunteers to be transformed into 'Spaceknights', cyborg warriors that can defend the planet from the invaders.
"The volunteers are promised that their 'humanity' (body parts) would be removed to accommodate 'bionic' armor. then preserved and restored after the danger was over.

With the Transformers franchise reportedly due for a reboot following the release of Bumblebee, the other Hasbro properties are beginning to take shape in order to fill the temporary void. In 2015, Hasbro's Allspark Pictures and Paramount assembled a writers room to help develop their non-Transformers franchises, such as G.I. Joe, M.A.S.K., Micronauts, Visionaries, and Rom, but little has been revealed over... Read More...

Hasbro is further expanding into the cinematic space by finally bringing Rom: Spaceknight to the big screen. Zak Penn, who most recently adapted Ernest Cline's novel Ready Player One for director Steven Spielberg, has been tapped to write the screenplay for the movie. The project is being produced by Allspark Pictures, which was recently set up to turn Hasbro properties into live-action entertainment. Hasbro has been working with Paramount Pictures for years on the Transformers franchise and Rom will be no different.
Rom, which stands for read-only memory, is much like other Hasbro properties in that, it started life out as a toy and later was made into a series of comic books. Rom: Spaceknight was published by Marvel Comics from 1979 to 1986. In 2015, Idw began publishing a new series of Rom comics. The toy was a cyborg action figure released in the late 1970s, but wasn't a big success at the time.

Hasbro's Allspark Pictures and Paramount Pictures is ready to move forward with their big screen adaptation of Rom! They just hired Zak Penn to write the script, who most recently worked on Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One. He also previously wrote The Avengers. X-Men 2, and The Incredible Hulk.
Rom stands for Read-Only-Memory, it originated as a toy which spawned a comic called Rom: Spaceknight. "Hailing from a utopian society on the planet Galador, Rom is a cyborg who, after defeating the invading Dire Wraith on its planet, continues the battle on Earth and other planets."
We know that Paramount is currently looking to develop a whole Hasbro cinematic universe with these Hasbro properties, which also includes G.I. Joe, M.A.S.K., Visionaries and more. James Gunn talked about his love for the character Rom and would have like to bring him into the McU, but obviously,...

Paramount Pictures has handed out new release dates for the long-awaited G.I. Joe 3 and Micronauts, both arriving in 2020, with Dungeons & Dragons hitting theaters in 2021. The fact that the G.I. Joe 3 and Micronauts release dates were announced at the same time is not too surprising, since the studio set up a writers room with Hasbro for both franchises back in November 2015. G.I. Joe 3 will hit theaters on March 27, 2020, while Micronauts will arrive in theaters on October 16, 2020. The studio has also set their upcoming Dungeons & Dragons movie for release on July 23, 2021.
As of now, none of those movies have any direct competition on those dates, although this G.I. Joe project, which is said to be a millennial reboot, does fall between an untitled Fox/Marvel film and an untitled Pixar movie both set for March 13, 2020, along with Cyborg, an untitled Disney live-action project an an untitled Sony Pictures...

After the massive success of the R-rated smash hit Deadpool, that comic book's co-creator is heading back to the big screen in an extreme way. Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld is teaming up with producers Graham King, Akiva Goldsman, Brooklyn Weaver and Fundamental Films, to create new movies based on comic book characters he has created in what has come to be known as the Extreme Universe. This sprawling universe covers nine comic books and over 100 characters, although it is't clear which character will come to the big screen first.
Deadline reports that this is the first "big rights deal" of 2017, worth north of seven figures, according to the site's sources. Some of the more notable characters included in the Extreme Universe include Brigade, Bloodstrike, Cybrid, Lethal, Re-Gex, Bloodwulf, Battlestone, Baboom and Nitro-Gen. After shepherding the writers room for the Transformers franchise, Akiva Goldsman will take over the same role for the Extreme Universe movies.
