A lot is misunderstood about the Method. 

Methos acting, originally called the Stanislavski System, was pioneered by Konstantin Stanislavski in his 1936 book "An Actor Prepares." In brief -- and it's far more involved than this -- the Method involved an acting that was based on the experienced emotions of the actor rather than mere representation. It is a Method actor's job to seek through their own psyche to find a similar motivational impulse as their character, and draw from it to create all the smaller, subconscious movements that a person would authentically display in that moment. A Method actor would constantly be asking themselves how they would personally react under a play's given circumstances. 

Method approaches have famously brought some actors to undue extremes. One might have heard the story of Dustin Hoffman who, to match the fatigue of his character in "The Marathon Man," elected to actually stay up...

Gravitas Ventures has acquired all North American rights to the comedy “An Actor Prepares,” starring Jeremy Irons, Jack Huston, Ben Schwartz and Mamie Gummer, Variety has learned exclusively.

Steve Clark directed from a script that he co-wrote with Thomas Moffett. The project was introduced at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, where international sales were launched.

Irons portrays a famous, hard-drinking actor who suffers a heart attack and is forced to drive across the country to make it in time for the wedding of his daughter, played by Gummer. His only hope of making the wedding lies with his estranged son, played by Huston, is a devoted husband and professor who couldn’t be more different from his father. As the two set out on their adventure, they become closer and realize they are more alike than they thought.

Content Media has bolstered its Cannes slate with worldwide sales rights to Seth Larney’s elevated sci-fi 2067.

President of Film Jamie Carmichael and executive vice-president of sales and distribution Jonathan Ford will introduce the project excluding Australia and Canada to buyers later this month.

Larney will direct 2067 from his original screenplay that takes place on an earth ravaged by climate change as mankind looks to the future to solve the problems of the present.

The sci-fi is set to commence production later this year in Australia and is described as cross between Arrival, Moon, and The Machine.

Lisa Shaunessy and Leonie Mansfield of Arcadia serve as producers with Phyllis Laing of Buffalo Gal Pictures, and Kate Croser of Kojo Entertainment. Michael Rymer serves as executive producer.

It was revealed today that Common (John Wick: Chapter 2, Suicide Squad, Run All Night, Selma, Now You See Me) will star in a new revenge action thriller titled Quick Draw from Content Media and Lorenzo di Bonaventura - producer of the blockbuster Transformers franchise, Deepwater Horizon, Shooter, and the GI Joe franchise among others.

Harris Goldberg wrote the screenplay and will direct the film. Featuring hyper intense shoot-outs, choreographed car chases, and lightning fast hand-to-hand combat, the action in Quick Draw plays out across the mean streets of Los Angeles.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing the film with Content Media's Tom Butterfield and David Greenblatt, through his Greenlit Creative company. In addition to producing Quick Draw, Content Media is handling worldwide sales, while CAA will handle USA. Lorenzo di Bonaventura said this.

The company has struck a deal with CNN Films to handle international sales ahead of the world premiere of Greg Barker’s documentary on Saturday.

CNN Films and Passion Pictures produced Legion Of Brothers, about the small deployment of Special Forces troops sent to Afghanistan immediately after the September 11 attacks to thwart the Taliban and al-Qaeda.

CNN retains Us broadcast, theatrical and streaming rights.

Content Media Corporation has appointed Tom Bairstow to its sales team as vice president of sales and distribution.

The announcement comes alongside other management promotions following the October unification of Content’s film, television and digital distribution, sales and servicing operations, which replaced its separate film and television distribution teams.

Based in London, Bairstow will manage the company’s film and television sales across all platforms to French-speaking Europe and Africa, Japan, Asia, Israel and the Middle East. He will report to Jonathan Ford, Content’s Evp sales and distribution.

With more than 15 years’ experience in distribution, Bairstow previously worked as executive director of distribution Nordics and Benelux at Sony Pictures Television. Prior to this position, he served as sales manager and later sales director at Sony.

Content Media has acquired worldwide sales rights to the timely music documentary, Beside Bowie: The Mick Ronson Story.

President of film Jamie Carmichael and executive vice-president of sales and distribution Jonathan Ford are introducing Jon Brewer’s film to the market this week.

While the film is expected to capitalise on global fascination for the late David Bowie himself, who died in January this year, the subject is his frequent collaborator and guitar virtuoso Ronson.

As a member of Bowie’s backing band The Spiders From Mars in the early 1970’s, Ronson contributed to some of the most iconic compositions, lyrics and recordings in contemporary music.

He recorded several solo albums and also earned a reputation as a sought-after session musician who played with Ian Hunter, Lou Reed and Morrissey and toured with Bob Dylan and Van Morrison.

Content Media Corporation has brought its separate film and television distribution divisions under one roof.

Jonathan Ford, executive vice-president of sales and distribution, will head the combined sales team based in London and Los Angeles.

Ford will report to president of the Content Media distribution division, Greg Phillips. Both are based in London.

Jamie Carmichael, the Los Angeles-based president of film at Content Media, will continue to head up film acquisitions and productions and will work closely with Ford on worldwide film sales.
