The last couple of years have been an absolute nightmare for Ubisoft. Critics and fans have absolutely bashed all of the studio’s recent games, and many believe that if the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows doesn’t hit the mark, it’s all over for Ubisoft.

Jon Hamm has done plenty of voice acting over his career, but voicing 1950s FBI agent-turned-private investigator Jack Bergin has proven unique.
Instead of recording his lines in a silo, Hamm was joined in the recording studio by a murderer’s row of performers — including Alia Shawkat, Ana de la Reguera, Bradley Whitford, Giancarlo Esposito, Omar Epps, Jeanne Tripplehorn and Hamm’s “Mad Men” co-star John Slattery — for the Audible Original series 2022’s “The Big Lie” and the upcoming new installment “The Big Fix.”
“This is better in every way, but mostly because the story is so intimate that it’s super helpful to have the personal connection with the person that you’re acting opposite,” Hamm said, discussing the series, created by John Mankiewicz and directed by Aaron Lipstadt, during Variety & Audible’s Cocktails and Conversations at Sundance. Ubisoft’s recent track record has been a mess, with delays and controversies piling up. The latest victim? The anticipated Brooklyn Dlc for Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, which has now been delayed indefinitely with no clear release window in sight.

While the developer insists that extra time is needed to polish the content, the lack of an Eta raises serious concerns about the future of the expansion, maybe even the game itself. This concern stems from the company’s recent history of mismanagement, as similar projects have fallen into the abyss, never to return.

A new report speculates that a potential Dlc for Assassin’s Creed Mirage could be funded by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (Pif). On the surface, it makes sense considering the company’s current situation and the Middle East’s increased interest in the industry in recent years. The Oval's Paige Hurd addresses whether she'd return as Gayle Franklin after her exit from the Tyler Perry show. Debuting in October 2019, with Perry credited as writer and director on the episodes, the BET political drama focuses on the Franklins. Led by Hunter Franklin, who is the U.S. President, the story examines the people in power, the people who work for them, and their entanglements. The main cast also includes Kron Moore and Daniel Croix Henderson, with Hurd playing the First Daughter Gayle Franklin.
In an interview with TV Insider to discuss her new movie Girl in the Garage: The Laura Cowan Story, Hurd looked back on her career so far and was asked about whether she'd be open to returning to The Oval. The gaming industry has seen its share of studios crashing and burning, especially in 2024. However, the current state of Ubisoft is one that might turn out to be the biggest of them all. Amidst a storm of financial losses, and project delays, not even The Division 3 will save the company at this point.
What is this studio cooking up this time? | Image Credit: Ubisoft
The third entry to the Division series was announced back in 2023 but a new report claims it’s not coming until 2028. Will that be enough? Will it be successful and bring success to the studio? The real story isn’t the quality of the game, it’s the possibility that the company might not even survive long enough to see it completed.
Ubisoft may never get to make the third Division game after all 2024 wasn’t a good year, and 2025 is not much brighter. | Image Credit:...

It’s as Clear as Day: Elden Ring Nightreign Is Trying to Do Where One Ubisoft Game Toiled and Failed
Bringing two or more franchises together can be a big hit or a miss for the players, and it seems FromSoftware is willing to take that gamble with their upcoming title, Elden Ring Nightreign. However, knowing how it all went down with Ubisoft and their failed ‘Cod Killer,’ XDefiant, is it what Hidetaka Miyazaki should really be going after?

What a difference a decade makes. It’s been nearly 10 years since Brazil produced the dystopian “3%,” its first series for Netflix. Since then, the country has launched an average of two shows a month on the platform, said Elisabetta Zenatti, VP of content for Netflix in Brazil, who announced last year that the streaming giant was investing $165 million (1 billion Reales) in Brazilian productions thru 2023 and 2024.
On Nov. 29, Netflix’s most ambitious and expensive Brazilian series, “Senna,” launched worldwide. According to the Associated Press, the streamer spent over $170 million on production. Currently ranking number two in Brazil and number six globally in its first week, it’s likely to sit high in Netflix’s Top Ten charts in Brazil and other territories, given the fervent interest in motorsports around the world.

Amazon MGM‘s Voltron movie got a significant update today after confirming that The Witcher and Man of Steel star Henry Cavill is joining the live-action adaptation. Cavill lends some impressive star power to the Rawson Marshall Thurber-directed feature, also starring Daniel Quinn-Toye.
Thurber also co-wrote the script with Ellen Shanman. The general premise of Voltron centers around five young pilots whose vehicles join together to form the mega mech known as Voltron. The show was edited together from several Japanese anime series, including Beast King GoLion and Armored Fleet Dairugger Xv, and originally ran in the mid-80s. Voltron spawned several sequel series, including Voltron: Legendary Defender, which spanned eight seasons on Netflix.

Before "Salem's Lot" returned to the zeitgeist with a highly-anticipated reboot movie, the Stephen King classic was a miniseries that shook the world. Directed by "Texas Chain Saw Massacre" mastermind Tobe Hooper, the two-part 1979 series was event TV at its spookiest.
The original "Salem's Lot" limited series has never been among the best King adaptations out there, but it holds a unique place in pop culture history thanks to its status as one of the earliest on-screen takes on a King book — plus some truly frightening moments. Several members of the show's sprawling ensemble cast, including David Soul, James Mason, Lance Kerwin, and vamp actor Reggie Nalder, have passed away in the decades since "Salem's Lot" first beamed its way into our collective consciousness. Of the actors who are still with us, several have gone on to award-winning careers in film and television, while others retired or found fulfillment in other careers.

Fellowship simplifies popular Mmo endgame content with dungeons, boss battles, and loot that won't require hundreds of hours to reach. Players choose pre-made characters of various classes, complete dungeons in 10-60 minutes, tackling bosses strategically to win loot. Fellowship promises replayability, scaled difficulty, and curated boss battles, set to release as a premium title in 2025.
Many of the world's most popular online multiplayer dungeon-exploring RPGs often require hundreds of hours of grinding to access the most fun parts of the game, but developer Chief Rebel is getting ready to deliver their first big game, Fellowship, which looks to streamline the Mmo RPG endgame experience. In an era where open-world games often prioritize map size and endless checklists over meaningful content, Ubisoft’s upcoming Star Wars Outlaws aims to break the mold. Developed by the studio behind The Division series and the more recent Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Outlaws promises to deliver a Star Wars experience that values substance over sheer scale.
This would, no doubt, be a refreshing departure from the bloated, repetitive design that has plagued many of Ubisoft’s recent open-world offerings, particularly the Far Cry franchise.

Star Wars Outlaws is scheduled to be released later this year, and the gaming community is excited to see what Ubisoft has to offer. However, the fans have their sights on something else and have been patiently waiting for any updates for a third major entry in The Division franchise.
Ubisoft has been quite tight-lipped about the iconic franchise, but if rumors are to be believed, the company means go into full production once Outlaws has been shipped. Fans may have to take these rumors with a grain of salt and understand the nature of game development.

In the gaming industry, the development cycle of any game is often filled with twists, turns, and bold decisions. These decisions can change the game completely and can also bring many new things. One such example of a game where the development decision almost fully changed its genre was TitanFall 2.
Developers at Respawn were thinking that the next Titanfall should have an Mmo experience and players can loot from the open world. These changes would have been a huge departure from the original game, but developers thought it through and stuck to their unique gameplay.

Ubisoft’s new free-to-play first-person shooter, XDefiant, just released on the 21st of May for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. This casual free-to-play shooter brings together locations and factions from various Ubisoft franchises, such as Tom Clancy, Far Cry, Watch Dogs, and more.
Players can choose from five factions at launch, with more coming in via different seasons later on. These factions currently include Libertad from Far Cry, Echelon from Splinter Cell, Phantoms from Ghost Recon, DedSec from Watch Dogs, and Cleaners from The Division.
XDefiant Doesn’t Have a Platinum Trophy for PS5
XDefiant has more than a few things in common with classic Call of Duty games.
One major disappointment for PlayStation 5 users has been that XDefiant will not feature a Platinum trophy. Most PS5 games include this achievement, which is a reward for getting all the other trophies in the game, but XDefiant lacks in this department.

XDefiant has a variety of factions with unique abilities but emphasizes mechanical skill over composition. The battle pass costs 700 XCoins and offers rewards like cosmetics/boosters. The Preseason Battle Pass features high-quality items like skins and animations, which may be worth purchasing for dedicated players.
With the highly anticipated arcade shooter XDefiant officially launched, the question now becomes if its battle pass system is worth the price. XDefiant has had its fair share of problems in recent years, with continued delays required to polish the game. A recent technical test showed that the game was in a polished enough state to at least launch into a preseason. However, it will still be an important task to maintain the game and accomplish its goal of competing with other shooters.

XDefiant is launching simultaneously in all regions and on every platform, with preload available now.
Ubisoft's XDefiant is set to be a major entry in the first-person arena shooter genre, leveraging the publisher's recognizable properties into a fast-paced, competitive crossover. In the last few weeks, we’ve witnessed Microsoft taking drastic measures and shutting down Hi-Rush studio Tango Gameworks, Redfall creator Arakne, and the two other studios. The tech giant believes that Xbox as a brand needs “small games” to garner its old prestige and get ahead of the competition. With the shutting down of such major studios, we thought we’d see further layoffs and reorganization of studios under Microsoft.
However, in a shocking move, Xbox and Activision have announced a new studio called Elsewhere Entertainment. While the brand-new studio features industry vets who’ve worked on successful games such as The Witcher and The Last of Us, many people in the community can’t believe Microsoft is closing well-established studios to open new ones.

Ubisoft has canceled The Division Heartland for XDefiant, a risky move that may not pay off in the oversaturated market of multiplayer arena shooters. The decision to focus on XDefiant is surprising, given the potential of The Division series to fill the gap in the extraction shooter genre left by other games' shortcomings. With XDefiant lacking skill-based matchmaking in casual play, it faces an uphill battle against the established player base and brand recognition of Call of Duty.

It’s a sad day for The Division fans, as Ubisoft has given the previously announced spin-off the axe. Revealed as part of the company’s earnings call this morning, it has decided to move on from the franchise onto “bigger opportunities.”
The game had been delayed since its announcement in 2021. The first and second one received 80 and 82 respectively on Metacritic, and fans eagerly awaited a new addition to the series.
Ubisoft Gives the Division Spin-off the Axe
The Division‘s upcoming title is confirmed to have been canceled.
Tom Clancy’s The Division and its sequel were handled by Massive Entertainment, a studio under Ubisoft. Heartland was being handled partly by another Ubisoft studio, Red Storm Entertainment.
IGN shared a statement from the company regarding the game’s cancellation:
After careful consideration, we have made the tough call to halt development on Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland, effective immediately.

Fans are truly excited about the MCU’s efforts to bring back the X-Men, anticipating an epic journey ahead. It is now no secret that Marvel Studios has been diligently searching for the right writer to spearhead the X-Men movie script, with recent reports confirming that they’ve narrowed it down to two final candidates.

Marvel Studios Reportedly Eyes Ryan Coogler to Direct X-Men Reboot - Main Image
Marvel Studios reportedly prepares for the much-awaited X-Men reboot after Disney acquired its rights from 20 Century Fox in 2019. Though details about this highly-anticipated project remain under wraps, the studio is allegedly eyeing Ryan Coogler to direct the film.
Coogler has been known for creating critically acclaimed and commercially successful movies, like the 2018 Black Panther.
The film didn’t just break numerous box office records, becoming the highest-grossing film of all time by an African American director.
But it also brought the franchise three Oscar wins and several nominations, including Best Picture, a first for a superhero movie.
That said, it would be no surprise if Marvel chooses Coogler to helm its X-Men reboot.

Ubisoft’s free-roam sci-fi action-adventure game series Watch Dogs has received mixed reviews from critics and players alike. The game did have an interesting premise, but some felt it didn’t break out of the Ubisoft open-world formula enough to stand out among other games like Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry.
It seems the potential of the series has been noticed by people outside of the gaming community as well. It’s common for popular franchises to get adapted into other media, and the same is happening with a live-action movie for Watch Dogs. But is Ubisoft taking on more than it can handle?
The Watch Dogs Movie will be Created by New Regency
A Watch Dogs adaptation may not be the best idea for Ubisoft currently.
Deadline was the first to report on this matter. The movie will reportedly feature Sophie Wilde, who debuted in A24’s Talk to Me...

It hardly seems real, but pirate action-adventure Skull and Bones is an actual finished game you can go buy and play right now, 11 years after Ubisoft first started production on the title and seven years since it was unveiled at a 2017 E3 presentation (remember those?). The open-world title you’ll get out of the box emphasizes naval battles, ship building, and exploration, but the game infamously changed shapes multiple times during its long, tortured development cycle, with false starts and delays turning it into one of the most troubled Aaa productions of the last decade.
Skull and Bones began life as an expansion for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag before Ubisoft turned the project into a full-blown Mmo spinoff called Black Flag Infinite to add a live service component on the ship combat mechanics fans loved from its predecessor. But those were just two iterations of the game.

Developer Fntastic has announced that they are shutting down their studio just four days after the release of their latest game, The Day Before. The developer claims that The Day Before has “failed financially” and that they “lack the funds to continue.” They then note that their future income will be used to pay off “debts to our partners.” While Fntastic says that The Day Before‘s servers will remain operational, they also confirm that they will not be able to release any subsequent significant updates for the game. The studio has also not revealed any plans to issue refunds for The Day Before at this time, and Steam has not yet released any comment about any potential expansions to their refund policy procedures in this instance.

Once the most wish-listed game on Steam, zombie Mmo The Day Before has seen its player count drop hugely, just four days on from its launch.
The subject of both anticipation and suspicion, zombie survival Mmo The Day Before finally launched in Early Access on the 7th December after nearly three years of slick-looking trailers and delays.
That the game actually got a release at all marked quite a moment for the game, given the common accusations that it was so much vapourware, and a bizarre legal dispute over its title that saw it delisted from Steam for several months.
The open-world survival opus’ launch has meant that players have now been able to give their verdict – and looking at the available data, it doesn’t look too pretty for developer Fntastic.

“I’ve played Fallout 76 on and off for the last five years, and I’m here to say it’s a great game!” says veteran director John Carpenter.
Fallout 76 might not have received the greatest of critical receptions on its release in 2018, but the online multiplayer RPG has a long-term fan in the shape of horror-film director John Carpenter.
Carpenter’s love of Bethesda’s Fallout 76 has been documented before. Back in 2022, he told the Av Club that he was “hooked” on Fallout 76. “I know it had bugs coming out, and a lot of it was put down, but I thought it was great,” he said. “It’s really fun to play.”

It seems the 75-year-old director remains a fan of Bethesda’s online RPG. Just this week, he was once again enthusing about Fallout 76 on X (aka Twitter), ahead of the addition of Atlantic City to the game.

Butler also co-created the Pierce Brosnan-starring Remington Steele (and helmed its pilot, of course), directed the first episode of Hogan’s Heroes in 1965, and called the first shots and set the tone for, Glenn Gordon Caron’s Moonlighting, Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Sisters and The Division.
In 1973, he directed the William Holden-starring The Blue Knight — the first four-hour television miniseries — at NBC and then got the CBS series adaptation of the Joseph Wambaugh novel that starred George Kennedy off on the right foot.
Butler also helmed two episodes of The Twilight Zone (the fifth-season installments “Caesar and Me,” starring his old friend, Jackie Cooper, and “The Encounter”) and worked on The Dick Van Dyke Show,...

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora offers a visually stunning and immersive gameplay experience, showcasing the lush detail and beauty of the world of Pandora. The game emphasizes player involvement and initiative, allowing for exploration and navigation without on-screen markers, creating a more rewarding and immersive experience. Combat in Frontiers of Pandora offers a variety of options, including both standard gunplay and alternative weapons like Na'vi bows and explosive-throwing staves, providing players with the choice between a stealthy or aggressive approach.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora represents a major attempt to bring the world of Pandora to life in a video game, a task made difficult by the high bar that James Cameron's films have set in rendering a planet full of life and detail. Developed by Massive Entertainment, Frontiers of Pandora is publisher Ubisoft's second foray into the Avatar franchise, following up on 2009's Avatar: The Game. Screen Rant participated...

Just like the films, Star Wars video games are almost always highly anticipated, and luckily, there are already some games lined up to look forward to in 2023 and beyond. George Lucas' creation has blossomed over decades into one of the largest media franchises in existence, with classic games like Knights of the Old Republic and Battlefront standing as important contributions. Following Disney's acquisition of the Star Wars IP, Electronic Arts was the sole publisher allowed to release officially licensed games. That is no longer the case, and other companies have joined the roster of upcoming titles.
There are seven Star Wars games established to be in development, with another rumored. In terms of games that will actually release in 2023, the field is rather scarce. Currently, there is only one Star Wars game with a 2023 release window confirmed, with the others essentially only having a single trailer, or nothing more than an announcement.

Robert Rodriguez's Hypnotic plays around with memory, so it's not surprising that its biggest twist had clues cleverly planted in it the whole time. Ben Affleck stars as Detective Danny Rourke whose daughter was kidnapped three years ago, and a string of bank robberies in Austin, Texas link her to the one man who may know where she is; William Fichtner's Lev Dellrayne, a powerful Hypnotic with the ability to control other people's minds. Both Rourke and Dellrayne are after the contents of a safe deposit box that contains a photo of Rourke's daughter, Minnie, and the words, "Find Lev Dellrayne."
Hypnotic's big twist occurs a little over halfway through the movie when Rourke discovers he's a Hypnotic too, and the words on the photograph are an anagram for "Deer Valley Lane," where he placed Minnie, the most powerful Hypnotic of all, for her own protection from a...

Hypnotic is a mind-bending thriller full of twists and turns, and its ending is just as complex and mysterious as the rest of it. Directed by Robert Rodriguez and starring Ben Affleck, Alice Braga, and William Fichtner, it follows Detective Danny Rourke (Affleck) as he connects a series of bank robberies around Austin, Texas to his missing daughter Minnie, who may still be alive if he can figure out her location. Dogging his every move is Dellrayne (Fichtner), an enigmatic man with the power to control multiple people's actions through hypnosis, and who will stop at nothing to obtain the last piece of evidence Rourke has of his daughter's whereabouts.
Rourke eventually learns from a psychic named Diana (Braga) that Dellrayne is a Hypnotic whose mind-controlling abilities were cultivated by a government-funded initiative called The Division, of which Braga was also a part, as well as Rourke himself before he intentionally altered his memories.
