A collection of nine instrumentals, Outside Problems serves as a companion piece to Bird’s 2022 album, Inside Problems, as he explained in a statement. “There are two notable things about this album,” he said. “One, none of these songs were recorded with the intent of making an album, I just happened to capture moments of melodic exploration over a period of time. You can hear themes from Inside Problems throughout the album, including on the song ‘Epilogue,’ just without concern for bridges and choruses and the band. I’m able to capture the sound of music in everyday life, a surprisingly hard thing to do. I was playing for the joy of it and to get these ideas out of my head.

Netflix has shot itself in the foot once again, this time over accusations of rigging their upcoming reality show, Squid Game: The Challenge. The streaming service has had a bit of a rough history since announcing the reality competition based on the original Squid Game show. Backlash immediately pointed to the fact that turning Squid Game into an actual competition undercuts the message of the show. However, the irony was not enough to stop the streaming conglomerate from going through with it anyway.

On February 2, Alphabet revealed its earnings for the fourth quarter of 2022. The parent company of Google missed its projections, as did its subsidiary video platform. YouTube ad revenue fell about 300 million short of expectations, though its short-form platform delivered massive viewership during the quarter.

YouTube was expected to hit 8.25 billion in quarterly ad revenue, but it reported 7.96 billion in that category instead. In total, Alphabet pulled in 76.05 billion in Q4 revenue, which was about 500 million short of projections. The Google holding company only grew 1 year-over-year since Q4 2021. That’s its lowest Yoy increase since Q2 2020, when the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic put a damper on businesses around the globe.

Due to the uncertain economic climate, Alphabet let 12,000 workers go in January. In the company’s latest earnings call, it reported that its cuts would incur a charge between 1.9 billion and 2.3 billion.

San Francisco, Feb 3 (Ians) US Senator Michael Bennett has urged Apple CEO Tim Cook and Google CEO Sundar Pichai to immediately remove TikTok from their app stores in a letter Thursday, calling it an unacceptable risk to American national security.

In the letter, the Senator from Colorado highlighted the danger of TikTok’s extensive reach in the US.

“Like most social media platforms, TikTok collects vast and sophisticated data from its users, including faceprints and voiceprints. Unlike most social media platforms, TikTok poses a unique concern because Chinese law obligates ByteDance, its Beijing-based parent company, to support, assist, and cooperate with state intelligence work,” wrote Bennet.

TikTok is now the third-most popular social media app in the US, with over 100 million American users spending more than 80 minutes per day on the app.

Bennet explains how the combination of TikTok’s reach, aggressive data collection, and Chinese law obligations endangers US security.

New Delhi, Feb 3 (Ians) YouTube Shorts, Google’s answer to TikTok, is now averaging over 50 billion daily views, up from 30 billion that was last reported, Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai has announced.

Pichai said that this performance will reward creators and help improve the Shorts experience for everyone.

“Our subscription business continues to grow, with YouTube Music and Premium surpassing 80 million subscribers, including trials. Together with our YouTube Primetime channel subscriptions and YouTube TV, we have good momentum here,” Pichai said during the analysts’ call late on Thursday.

In December, the National Football League announced YouTube will pay around 2 billion a year for rights to the “Sunday Ticket”.

According to Pichai, YouTube’s NFL Sunday Ticket will help acedrive subscriptions, bring new viewers to YouTube’s paid and ad-supported experiences, and create new opportunities for creators”.

YouTube advertising revenue was 7.96 billion — down 8 per cent from 8.63 billion the year prior — in the December quarter.

For the Super Bowl, TikTok is asking its community to get their grub on. The video app has announced the TikTok Gridiron Grub Contest, which will award 5,000 to five restaurants that showcase the most outrageous gameday dishes.

To earn a share of the 25,000 prize pool, Grub Contest participants must show off the most “fun and creative” ideas for Super Bowl snacks. TikTok has already emerged as a hotbed for original recipes, and those ideas come in handy this time of year.

A member of the Senate Intelligence Committee is pushing Apple and Google to remove TikTok from their app stores because of national security concerns as the Chinese-owned company faces escalating prospects of a national ban amid bipartisan scrutiny of its data-sharing practices.

In a letter addressed to the chief executives of Apple and Alphabet, Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo. says TikTok’s popularity “raises the obvious risk that the Chinese Communist Party could weaponize TikTok against the United States” by forcing parent company ByteDance to “surrender Americans’ sensitive data or manipulate the content Americans receive to advance China’s interests.”

The government has increasingly been taking action against TikTok’s ties to China. In December, President Joe Biden signed a bill prohibiting the use of TikTok by nearly four million government employees on devices owned by its agencies. At least 27 state governments have passed similar measures.

ChatGPT is off to one of the hottest starts in tech history. The next-generation chatbot now has approximately 100 million users, including a few high-profile proponents. Jonah Peretti, the Co-Founder and CEO of BuzzFeed, revealed that his company will employ AI to generate new types of content.

The company behind ChatGPT, OpenAI, built the bot with a combination of large language models and reinforcement learning. Since opening up to the public in December, ChatGPT has been hailed for the accurate and detailed responses it provides.

According to investment bank Ubs, ChatGPT was on track to surpass 100 million users in January. For comparison, TikTok took nine months to reach 100 million users, and Instagram needed more than two years to reach that milestone. “This is the fastest consumer application I have seen to hit 100 million monthly active users in my career covering this space,” Ubs equities analyst Lloyd Walmsley told CBS. “The ramp has been extraordinary.

The sports entertainment company is bringing its signature event, WrestleMania 39, to Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium in April, and according to WWE senior vp and head of global sales and partnerships Craig Stimmel, the company’s sponsorship revenue is already 43 percent higher than it was for the entirety of WrestleMania 38. Another source familiar with the numbers says sponsorship revenue currently stands at between 14 million-15 million, which will be a new record for the event.
