Joe Manganiello has seen a lot in his 25 years in Hollywood, and even he seems stunned by what went down while filming the new season of Deal or No Deal Island.

“Without sounding crazy, all of us who were in the jungle that night witnessed something other-worldly. There’s no other way to say it,” says the veteran actor, producer and filmmaker who is back as host for the hit NBC reality competition show. “What happened is impossible. It is just impossible, and I don’t know if it ever happens again. You’ll see what I mean [when it airs], but it is like an argument for something more out there than our humdrum everyday lives. I was on the field while it was playing out, and it was wild.”

He adds, “I’m excited for everyone to see it and the buildup to it, because it’s the greatest moment in game show television history.

When “Deal or No Deal Island” Season 2 premieres next month, host Joe Manganiello will not be the only familiar face returning from Season 1.

That’s because fan-favorite contestant Boston Rob Mariano is set to host an after show to accompany the NBC reality TV competition series, the network announced on Monday.

“Each week, Boston Rob will break down the most jaw-dropping moments of the latest episode, share behind-the-scenes insights and interview eliminated contestants to delve into their strategies and hot takes,” NBC teased. “Fans can also expect exclusive footage, sneak peeks of future episodes, and Rob’s trademark humor as the show provides a full deep dive into the game.”

“It’s going to be epic TV,” Mariano echoed in a video post celebrating the news.

After 15 players went head-to-head while living side-by-side, the USA Network competition named its winner as Nina Twine, who takes home the grand prize of $100,000.

Twine is the daughter of “Survivor” legend Sandra Diaz-Twine, who recently appeared on “The Traitors” Season 2 on Peacock. Following in her mom’s footsteps, Twine first appeared on “Australian Survivor: Blood v. Water,” when she made the notorious move of voting out her own mother, and later returned to the Down Under iteration of the survival show as a hero in “Heroes v. Villains.”

Nina kept her mom’s identity under wraps as she entered “The Anonymous,” though her fellow contestants made it impossible for her to truly deny the connection, even if she tried.

Among English-speaking countries, Australia is the third-largest exporter of TV shows to the U.S. in terms of demand, behind the United Kingdom and Canada, and ranks seventh overall. But when it comes to reality TV, Australia is the second most popular country of origin, trailing only the United Kingdom, as of the third quarter of 2024. Reality shows from Australia had a higher demand share than any other major country in the U.S. market, with 28.3% of the total demand for Australian shows coming from this genre.

An upcoming season of Survivor Survivor: Australia vs The World is ready to take some of our favorite American castaways down under, with three of said castaways being announced prior to the official cast reveal: Cirie Fields, Tony Vlachos and Parvati Shallow.

For those unfamiliar with what the highly-anticipated spin-off series will entail, Survivor: Australia vs The World will feature the best players from all around the globe, competing for the title of "Sole Survivor."

One tribe will include standouts from the previous 10 seasons of Australian Survivor, while the other will have fan-favorites from the Survivor franchise worldwide.

If you have yet to catch a season of Australian Survivor, the spin-off series aired for two seasons in 2001 and 2006, later revived in 2016 and running annually ever since.

Moreover, Australian Survivor is said to be even more difficult than the original version, as it features 24 contestants and 24 episodes, and it runs for up to 55 days.

“Australian Survivor” is determined to give America’s version a run for its money in the casting department, judging by the first six names revealed for “Australia v The World.”

Paramount Australia and New Zealand announced early Monday morning that Parvati Shallow, Cirie Fields and Tony Vlachos will all be taking part in the upcoming, shortened international all-stars season of the Down Under competition reality show.

They will be joined by fellow “As” fan favorites Shonee Bowtell, George Mladenov and Kirby Bentley, as well as unnamed contestants from South Africa, Norway, New Zealand and, presumably, others from “Australian Survivor.”

“When it comes to ‘Survivor,’ we Aussies reckon we’re tough as nails. We talk the talk but now the time has come to walk the walk when our local ‘Survivor’ legends take on players from ‘Survivor’ franchises around the world,” Paramount teased in a press release. “This is a world-first...

Australian Survivor offers more of the Survivor experience with longer seasons and familiar faces like Russell Hantz and Sandra Diaz-Twine. Naked and Afraid takes the survival aspect of Survivor to the next level, dropping cast members in nature without clothing. The Challenge provides a great alternative for Survivor fans, focusing on teams competing in challenges with many former Survivor players.

Ever since Jeff Probst hosted the first season of Survivor, the show has had millions of loyal fans who love talking about it. Those fans will know things like who the first player to be medically evacuated was. On top of that, they will debate things like how to rank each season, and which seasons new fans should watch first.

No matter how much those fans love Survivor, however, the show would get tiresome if that is all they ever watched. As a result, they have to watch other things sometimes.

Heading into the final episode of “Australian Survivor: Titans V Rebels” on March 19, only three castaways remained in the running to win the half-million dollar prize: Mark Warnock, Caroline Courtis and Feras Basal. 9 Network and Endemol Shine Australia have unveiled a new travel adventure series entitled “Rush,” hosted by “Australian Survivor” star David Genat.

“Rush,” an original concept developed by the Banijay Group-owned Esa and Nine, follows 12 contestants deprived of all their senses who are then dropped into exotic locations and festivals around the world and must work together to complete the mission and reach a designated escape zone before they can continue on their global adventure where team members are progressively eliminated until one winner remains.

“It’s a spectacular take on the travel reality series on a scale never attempted on Australian TV,” said Peter Newman, Endemol Shine Australia CEO, speaking exclusively with Variety at their Sydney office.

The most recent season of Australian Survivor, titled Heroes V Villains, was the show's greatest installment yet. The season followed last year's disappointing Blood V Water season, which was a low point for the show. Even though the previous season featured several returning players, including American Survivor legend Sandra Diaz-Twine, it was an entirely predictable and sluggish outing for the show.

Coming off the heels of a less-than-stellar season, Heroes V Villains was a successful rebound for the reality competition series. The season borrowed its theme from the U.S. version, but it changed up the format. Instead of exclusively featuring returning players like the U.S. Heroes vs. Villains season from 2010, the Aussie version featured a cast with both returnees and Survivor newbies.

Heroes V Villains Had The Best Survivor Gameplay In Years

Australian Survivor: Heroes...

The current season of Australian Survivor is proof that the show has bounced back from its abysmal Blood V Water season last year. Blood V Water was the seventh season of Network Ten's revival of the Aussie version of the show. Borrowing from the American franchise's previous "Blood vs. Water" twist, the season featured pairs of loved ones competing on opposite tribes to begin the game.

Unfortunately, Australian Survivor: Blood V Water was a low point for the show. It got off to a decent start, in part due to the presence of American Survivor legend Sandra Diaz-Twine, but the latter half of the game was very poorly received. The post-merge game was criticized for its unbalanced editing and weak gameplay by a number of contestants. Winner Mark Wales played a dominant game, but the season was entirely predictable and repetitive.

The season finale of “Australian Survivor: Heroes V Villains” aired on March 27, and fans worldwide are overwhelmingly pleased with the results. Indeed, in Gold Derby’s recent poll asking if the right person won, a whopping 82% of viewers voted that yes, Elizaveta “Liz” Parnov deserved her title of Sole Survivor. The other 18% of poll respondents were split between Gerry Geltch and Matt Sharp, who both failed to impress the jury on finale night.

Earlier this week on “Australian Survivor: Blood V Water,” Mark Wales was declared the winner of the 500,000 grand prize by a unanimous 10-0-0 jury vote over co-runners-up Shay Lajoie and Chrissy Zaremba. It was a decisive victory to be sure, as only a small handful of “Survivor” winners can brag about winning over the entire jury. But some fans aren’t feeling the love.

In fact, in our recent poll conducted after the finale, only 27 of Aussie viewers voted that Mark deserved to win. At 65 support, Shay earned a vast majority of the votes. Chrissy trailed with 8 of the poll results.

On April 4, the 10-person jury of “Australian Survivor” voted unanimously to award the 500,000 grand prize to Mark Wales. Co-runners-up Shay Lajoie and Chrissy Zaremba both received zero votes. Host Jonathan Lapaglia live-tweeted the finale, and he suspects Shay’s poor jury management is part of the reason why she failed to earn a single vote. “Damn….the Jury were clearly not happy with Shay’s self appointed 8/10 for game play….but adding an extra half point was the salt in the wound,” he wrote.

Lapaglia has filled the Jeff Probst role as the host down under since 2016, when Network 10 officially revived the competition.

American “Survivor” legend Sandra Diaz-Twine recently traveled down under to compete on “Australian Survivor: Blood V Water” with her daughter, Alanna “Nina” Twine, and she admits that her mama bear nature came out during filming. “I remember one time I feared for her termination and I told everyone, if my baby goes home I’m not going to be nice, and I’m going to be so nasty that I’ll probably hurt my own tribe mates’ feelings because I’m attacking their loved ones,” she tells The Sydney Morning Herald. “But that’s because of my bond with my child – that’s my daughter that came out of me!”

Just like the American version of the popular theme, which played out twice during Season 27’s “Survivor: Blood vs. Water” (2013) and Season 29’s “Survivor: San Juan del Sur” (2014), the Australian installment will initially force loved ones to compete against each other on opposite tribes.

The editors behind Nitram, I Met A Girl, The Furnace and June Again will compete for this year’s Ellie Award for Best Editing in Feature Drama, while the television drama category will be a contest between those who cut Wakefield, The Tailings, Jack Irish, Eden and Bump.

The annual awards of the Australian Screen Editors (Ase) will be held in early February with the hope that travel restrictions between states will have eased.

“It’s been a tough two years and we think we all deserve to be together in person to celebrate these fine achievements in editing, and the results of everybody’s hard work during such difficult times,” Ase president Danielle Boesenberg tells If.

In addition to the feature film prize, I Met A Girl editor Melanie Annan will also be in contention for Best Editing in Documentary and Series for Three Songs for Benazir, shared with Christoph Wermke.

Reality is set to be reworked across 10 ViacomCBS in 2022, with international formats headlining today’s upfronts.

The Daily Mail reports that the two-time winner from “Pearl Islands” (Season 7) and “Heroes vs. Villains” (Season 20) has been cast in the upcoming installment of “Australian Survivor.” The show is filming now in North Queensland, Australia and will air at a later date.

“Sandra is a big deal in the ‘Survivor’ world and is confident she’s more tenacious than anyone else they’ve had on the Australian show,” a source tells the publication. “She’s been in Queensland for a few weeks now and has been instructed to keep a low profile and not post about why she is in Australia.” Other rumored contestants for this “Blood vs. Water” cycle include Samantha Gash and Mark Wales, both of whom competed on the 2017 Australian version.

Australian Survivor will remain in Queensland for its seventh season, which will be filmed at Charters Towers.

Set to screen across Network 10 platforms later this year, the next iteration of the franchise has received a $3.9 million grant from the Federal Government’s Location Incentive scheme, with the expectation it inject more than $29 million into regional Australia.

It comes production company Endemol Shine Australia moved the series from Fiji to Cloncurry for the sixth season.

CEO Peter Newman said the company was pleased to bring production back to Queensland.

“Cloncurry provided the game with a visually stunning location, and we know that Charters Towers will provide an equally rich Australian backdrop for the Survivors to battle it out,” he said.

“We look forward to working closely with the local community and crew and supporting the Charters Towers economy throughout a successful production period.”

The Nsw production sector has received a welcome boost amidst the ongoing Greater Sydney lockdown, with the news that HBO Films’ Days of Abandonment, starring Natalie Portman, will commence filming in the state this month.

The adaption of Elena Ferrante’s novel has received a $3.4 million grant via the Federal Government’s Location Incentive Program, with the expectation it will inject more than $25 million into the local economy and create more than 200 jobs for cast and crew.

Netflix workplace comedy God’s Favorite Idiot, produced by and starring Ben Falcone and Melissa McCarthy, is set to shoot in Nsw’s Northern Rivers.

The 16-episode series is the latest recipient of the government’s Location Incentive Program, receiving a $10 million grant to head Down Under.

It follows mid-level tech support employee Clark Thompson (Falcone) who finds love with co-worker Amily Luck (McCarthy) at exactly the same time he becomes the unwitting messenger of God.

Announced supporting cast include Yanic Truesdale, Usman Ally, Ana Scotney, Chris Sandiford and Steve Mallory, with the latter also an EP. Falcone created the series, with Michael McDonald attached to direct.

McCarthy is familiar with Byron Bay, having recently starred in Hulu series Nine Perfect Strangers, from Blossom Films/Made Up Stories.

Adventure reality show “Australian Survivor” is to shoot in Queensland, Australia following the injection of cash from the federal government’s Location Incentive Fund. The first five seasons of the show, which airs on Network 10, had previously lensed in Pacific island countries Samoa and Fiji.

Preparations to shoot season six in Fiji had been under way before the coronavirus outbreak halted work in early 2020. Now, the Endemol Shine Australia show will be filmed deep in the outback, in Cloncurry, 1,700 km north-west of Brisbane. The area is known for its harsh climate and challenging weather conditions.
