While the Disney/Fox merger saw the rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four return to Marvel Studios, Spider-Man is still only on loan from Sony Pictures.
Marvel Studios' agreement with the studio fell apart shortly before Spider-Man: Far From Home's release but when the news was made public, filmmaker and fan backlash helped change Sony's mind (even Tom Holland got on the phone to Disney CEO Bob Iger).
There are certain conditions to how Spider-Man is utilised in the MCU and Sony is free to make movies like Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter without Kevin Feige's input. Back to the web-slinger, though, and the odds of him showing up anywhere other than in his own movies or the Avengers franchise are slim.

Earlier this week, we learned that Stranger Things star Sadie Sink has joined the cast of Spider-Man 4. Given her red hair, it didn't take long for fans (and scoopers) to speculate that she might be playing everyone from Jean Grey to Firestar and Mary Jane Watson.
However, a new report from Jeff Sneider claims Sink will play the latter, meaning the Marvel Cinematic Universe will soon have the "real" Mj. That seems problematic on several levels, not least because it diminishes the work done by Zendaya as Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home's Michelle Jones Watson.
There is one way to make this work, though.
With Spider-Man 4 set to be released between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, it will almost certainly be a Multiversal tale. In fact, if Doomsday ends with the creation of Battleworld, chances are that's where Peter Parker's...

Stranger Things star Sadie Sink will join Tom Holland in the fourth Spider-Man film.
Filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) is helming the movie that is currently untitled. Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna penned the screenplay.
The plot for the fourth Spider-Man is being kept under wraps, with the last film, No Way Home, ending with the world forgetting that teenager Peter Parker was Spider-Man, including Mj (Zendaya). It is unclear who Sink will play in the film.
Holland teased the fourth film last year during a stop on Good Morning America, saying, “The idea is crazy. It’s a little different to anything we’ve done before, but I think the fans are gonna really respond to it.”
Sony Pictures has set a theatrical release for July 31, 2026.

Jake Gyllenhallhas had a fair number of hits in his career. His highest-grossing movie as an actor is Spider-Man: Far From Home, wherein he played the villain, Mysterio. This film is the actor's only movie to gross over $1 billion, coming in at $1.13 billion. Beyond his MCU stint, however, Gyllenhaal has had a number of other successful titles. The disaster thriller The Day After Tomorrow, for example, made over $555 million at the box office, and 2010's Prince of Persia: Sands of Time brought in $336.3 million.
Gyllenhaal has also starred in several dramas by award-winning directors. This includes Ang Lee's Brokeback Mountain, which earned the actor his first and only Oscar nomination. He has also worked with Bong Joon Ho on Okja, where he played the wacky Dr. Johnny Wilcox. Gyllenhaal has also been nominated for three Golden Globes for the movies Love & Other Drugs and Nightcrawler and the TV show Presumed Innocent.

If there’s one thing most Marvel fans can agree on, it’s the impeccable casting of Charlie Cox as Daredevil/Matt Murdock. Like Christopher Reeve, Robert Downey Jr., and Hugh Jackman before him, Cox's name is synonymous with superhero excellence; few actors have inhabited the tormented skin of their comic book counterparts with more authenticity, passion, or pathos. To the joy of casual and aficionado fans alike, that casting coup didn't go quietly into the night following Netflix's cancellation of the original Daredevil series in 2018. Between the recently premiered Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+ as well as Murdock's cameos in Spider-Man: Far From Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Cox has now been playing the Devil of Hell's Kitchen for over a decade.

It began with 2008’s “Iron Man,” a film that introduced the world to Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark with the hint that he could be part of something greater. Over 30 films later, the story of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still being told, albeit with various tributaries and detours that introduce new characters and new worlds that may or may not cross paths one day. Each film in the MCU stands on its own to some degree, but like building blocks, they all connect as part of one interconnected universe. And in that way, watching the Marvel movies in order tells one grand story.
There are a couple of different ways to watch the Marvel movies in order, but below we run down how to watch the MCU in chronological and release date order. Indeed, some films like “Captain Marvel” and “Captain America: The First Avenger” are full-on prequels...

However, Holland and Zendaya are not the only Marvel stars to be engaged, since their Spider-Man co-star, Jacob Batalon, is now engaged too.

End of Watch was a gritty and realistic cop thriller that became a critical and box office hit when it was released in 2012. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Brian Taylor and Michael Peña as Mike Zavala, the film features the two LAPD partners as they work in South Central Los Angeles. Written and directed by David Ayer, the movie really shows the bond between the two young officers. It's now getting a second life on Max where it sits at number five in the top 10 and even climbed as high as the number two spot.
The movie follows Taylor and Peña as they perform their duties and things take a turn when a cartel targets them. Ayer grew up in South Central L.A. and has written several films about corrupt officers working at the LAPD. But for End of Watch, he wanted to showcase two honest and dedicated officers. After their record-breaking box office success in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, the Russo brothers are back to helm the next two Avengers movies, Doomsday and Secret Wars. Daredevil: Born Again left us with plenty to discuss, but amid all those big talking points, you might have missed a cameo from an MCU veteran. And we're not talking about a superhero.

He's racked up more than a dozen MCU appearances since 2012 so, yes, he's deserving of that "veteran" label.

Hauling in a jaw-dropping 2.8 billion dollars, Marvel's superhero blockbuster Avengers: Endgame is one of the highest-grossing films of all time and will likely remain in the top ten for decades to come. Beyond this staggering commercial success, the film is also a huge hit with critics and fans alike, posting an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 94% and a Popcornmeter score of 90%. However, in the years since the Marvel Cinematic Universe's historic success, critics have soured on the franchise, and box offices have floundered.
Avengers: Endgame was the culmination of eleven years of storytelling across over a dozen films — the definitive end to a chapter, as its name suggests. As such, there was little chance of Marvel's next entries echoing its level of success. However, the studio has been fumbling to find any footing. Despite their efforts, they can't build up momentum for their next Phase, largely due to some key missteps.

Spider-Man 4's release date has officially been bumped. However, the delay that the movie now faces is a minuscule change, which means superhero fans will only have to wait one extra week until Tom Holland returns to the big screen as Peter Parker and his webslinging alter ego. The follow-up to 2021’s blockbuster Spider-Man: No Way Home was originally slated for release on July 24, 2026, but the film will now drop seven days later on July 31, according to a new report published by Variety.
Making the shift means the Sony/Marvel flick is swinging away from some pretty stiff competition, which has summer blockbuster aspirations of its own. So, the move shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, particularly to movie lovers, and those executives behind the No Way Home sequel undoubtedly must have felt their collective Spider-Senses tingling. Somehow, it took Rocky and Rambo star Sylvester Stallone a long time to play a full-on superhero (his roles in Judge Dredd and Guardians of the Galaxy don’t count). But, when he finally did don a costume and possess superpowers, it resulted in the deeply divisive Samaritan, which is now all set to stream free.
Released back in 2022, Samaritan begins when thirteen-year-old Sam Cleary suspects that his mysterious and reclusive neighbor Mr. Smith is actually a superhero legend hiding in plain sight. Directed by Julius Avery, Samaritan stars Sylvester Stallone alongside The Umbrella Academy star Javon Walton as Sam Cleary, as well as Martin Starr (Spider-Man: Far From Home), Moisés Arias (The King of Staten Island), Dascha Polanco (In the Heights), Natacha Karam (The Old Guard), and Pilou Asbæk (Game of Thrones). Samaritan is due to land on Tubi on March 1, and you can check out the official synopsis below.

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 is going to take slightly longer to swing into theaters.
Sony Pictures announced Friday that the Marvel superhero’s next feature is now set for theatrical release on July 31, 2026, a week later than previously scheduled. Filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) is helming the movie that is currently untitled.
This change gives the project extra distance from the release of director Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which also stars Holland and hits theaters July 17, 2026. Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson and Charlize Theron round out the star-studded cast for Universal’s feature adaptation of Homer’s epic poem.
Also currently set for release on July 31, 2026, is Paramount’s animated feature Paw Patrol 3.
Holland was last seen onscreen as the heroic web-slinger in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, which surpassed $1.9 billion at the global box office.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Manhas swung onto Disney+ and recently released its two-episode finale on Feb. 19, 2025. The first of Marvel's ambitious 2025 slate, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, explores a new take on the popular hero origin story by drawing heavily from what audiences know/associate with the MCU incarnation but putting their spin on the material. It's a new "What If" for Spider-Man and Marvel that isn't actually What If...?.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is filled with Easter eggs and references to Marvel Comics, past incarnations of Spider-Man, and the MCU. From a catchy opening title song that captures many different eras of Spider-Man to much of the series' supporting cast being drawn from all over the Marvel Universe, there are plenty of fun references for fans as well as potential clues for where this series might be heading. Here are the biggest Easter eggs and references in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

Let's cut to the chase: "Captain America: Brave New World" is bad. The story is paper-thin, the action is repetitive and too reminiscent of previous "Captain America" movies, and the villain's plot is uninspired. The worst sin this movie commits is being safe and forgettable, having nothing to say despite plenty of opportunities to be topical.
The film follows Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) as he finds himself in the middle of an international incident where he must unravel a conspiracy to start an international war and discover the President's secrets before he unleashes a red monster on the world.
There is, however, one aspect of the film that's good: Harrison Ford's President Thaddeus Ross. Despite the trailers already spoiling the big, red, hulking surprise of the film, it doesn't diminish the fact that Ross is a complex and interesting character, the Red Hulk transformation is thrilling, and his fight scenes are well-executed,...

The scrutiny around the new entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues. Anthony Mackie made his debut in his first standalone film, Captain America: Brave New World, taking over the shield from Chris Evans' Steve Rogers as Captain America.
The new movie, which is the first out of three MCU movies to premiere this year, had a lukewarm reception. Although the film was under scrutiny and received negative reviews from critics, it has also received more than passable scores from the audience and exceeded expectations at the box office. At the same time, Forbes reports Captain America: Brave New World has set an unfortunate Cinemascore record for the MCU.

Spider-Man: Far From Home featured one of the McU's most jaw-dropping post-credits scenes when it introduced us to Earth-616's J. Jonah Jameson. Spider-Man trilogy star J.K. Simmons reprised the role, with a version of the Spidey-hating hothead who, in this reality, is in charge of TheDailyBugle.net.
The shock jock proceeded to reveal Spider-Man's secret identity to the world and continued to badger Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Rumours persist about the direction Spider-Man 4 will head in, but one of the most popular suggestions is the Spidey-obsessed Jameson outfitting the Scorpion with the tech needed to take down the vigilante.
During a recent interview with Screen Rant, Simmons was asked about his MCU future and whether he'll reprise arguably his most iconic role in the hero's 2026 return.
To that, he replied, "No spoilers. Sorry, I’m not telling."

Captain America: Brave New World opens in theaters this week. The Marvel Cinematic Universe movie formally introduces Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) as the new Captain America, taking over from the retired Steve Rogers (Chris Evans). Wilson first picked up the shield in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but this is his first outing as Captain America on the big screen.
The film is directed by Julius Onah and written by the teams of Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, and Onah and Peter Glanz. The cast includes Danny Ramirez as the new Falcon, Shira Haas, Carl Lumbly, Xosha Roquemore, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Giancarlo Esposito, Tim Blake Nelson, and Harrison Ford as President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross (taking over the role from the late William Hurt), who makes a much-anticipated transformation into Red Hulk in the film — a decision that didn’t sit well with MCU filmmaker Joe Russo.

If there’s one thing we know about Anthony Mackie, it’s that he’s always down for some good ol’ fashioned trolling. And if there’s one thing we know about Tom Holland, it’s that he’s been on the receiving end of Mackie’s jokes for years. Spoilers for "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" follow.
"Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" episode 7, "Scorpion Rising," sees Peter Parker (Hudson Thames) facing his greatest challenge yet -- and nearly losing his life to it. DeWanda Wise might be taking flight again, but this time it could be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the beloved X-Men character Storm. The actress portrayed pilot Kayla Watts in 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion, but if the rumor mill is any indication, the MCU might have its sights set on casting Wise as the fan-favorite Mutant Ororo Munroe.
Please remember that until Marvel Studios confirms the casting report posted to X, formerly Twitter, by scooper MyTimeToShineHello, the news of Wise possibly taking up Storm’s electrifying mantle is strictly a rumor. Now, the social media post succinctly reads as follows:

Jake Gyllenhaal has portrayed an impressively dynamic array of characters since his first on-screen appearance back in 1991. In the following decades, the Academy Award-nominated actor has been at the forefront of many successful films, including Donnie Darko, Brokeback Mountain, and Spider-Man: Far From Home. In addition, Gyllenhaal has made a recent impact in the world of television with his Golden Globe-nominated performance in Apple TV+'s Presumed Innocent. Given his extensive filmography, it is no surprise that some of his characters aren't as well known as others. Not all of them can be as memorable as Lou Bloom in Nightcrawler or Detective Loki in Prisoners. However, fans should be sure to check out his performance in this 2002 film that also stars Jennifer Aniston.

Once upon a time, about six years ago, superheroes were the biggest thing in cinemas. In 2019, no less than three superhero movies made over a billion dollars at the box office: Captain Marvel, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Avengers: Endgame, which also happens to be the second highest-grossing movie of all time. If you throw Joker in there, it's four. Surely the good times would roll forever.
But they didn't. The sequel to Captain Marvel, The Marvels, came out a few years later and became Marvel's first box office bomb, grossing around $200 million on a budget of nearly $300 million. Major tentpole movies like Ant-Man 3 underperformed, earning less than both of its predecessors, and new heroes like Shang-Chi and the Eternals never caught fire. Things were even worse on the DC side of things. Whereas Aquaman made over $1 billion in 2018, the 2023 sequel made less than half that. It was the same story for the Shazam!

For instance, the latest batch of episodes debuted new variations of Doc Ock, Scorpion and Unicorn. They also referenced the events of Captain America: Civil War, but as per usual, the animated series put its own twist on them. In this case, Peter Parker isn't directly involved in the Avengers' conflict, and even if he was, it seems he might have picked a different side than his Marvel Cinematic Universe counterpart.
Although the McU's Peter Parker was introduced as part of Iron Man's team in Captain America: Civil War, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man makes him more of a Steve Rogers fan. In fact, after Harry Osborn finds out his secret identity and...

Speculation has been rampant surrounding Sony Pictures' and Marvel Studios' Spider-Man 4. Starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker, the movie is set for release on July 24, 2026. Beyond this release date, little has been confirmed. Fans have been faced with conflicting rumors, with some suggesting that the movie will continue Spider-Man: No Way Home's exploration of the Multiverse. Others have suggested Spider-Man 4 will be a street-level story. Amy Pascal, who serves as producer of the Spider-Man franchise for Sony Pictures, recently shared the first few plot details for Spider-Man 4.
Pascal made it apparent that the movie will follow Peter Parker as he withdraws from his civilian identity and instead throws himself fully into being Spider-Man. This follows on from his decision at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home to have the world forget Peter Parker, leaving him on his own and with little left in his life besides Spider-Man.

2025 will continue to be a superhero-packed year. The Marvel Cinematic Universe will add three more films, culminating with The Fantastic Four: First Steps in the summer.
Although this is hardly the first time Marvel's First Family has been adapted into a feature film, the characters are now making their debut in the MCU. Planned to have a bigger role in the upcoming two Avengers films, The Fantastic Four: First Steps' launch has been successful. Marvel Studios unveiled the first trailer on Feb. 4, almost a year after the cast announcement, and The Hollywood Reporter revealed the trailer was a massive success, with 202 million views in its first 24 hours across all platforms.

This marks one of the best launches for a Marvel Studios project.

Oh what a tangled web we weave when the multiverse becomes part of Spider-Man canon. The Spider-Man film franchise started simply enough, with 2002’s “Spider-Man.” Fast forward 20 years and three different actors have played live-action versions of the Wall Crawler, with the trio joining forces in 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
The most recent Spidey flick wasn’t just a fun family reunion. It also led to Marvel verifying the existence of the multiverse in its live-action productions. As the former Sorcerer Supreme Doctor Strange says in the film, “The multiverse is a concept about which we know frighteningly little.”
While the establishment of the multiverse has a still yet-to-be-determined impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in the present it can make watching Spider-Man movies in order a little complicated.
Thankfully, there are a myriad of ways to enjoy your friendly neighborhood Spider-Men. Below is a list of the Web...

When Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios parted ways after Spider-Man: Far From Home, Sony executives immediately started making plans to continue the franchise without Kevin Feige's input.
We'll likely never know what that would have entailed. However, once both sides managed to get back on good terms, the wall-crawler found himself caught up in the Multiverse with 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home. That led to the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as their respective Peter Parker Variants, not to mention some familiar villains.
Sony tried to get in on the Multiversal action with Morbius. However, after cutting several confusing nods to Sam Raimi's Spider-Man franchise, the studio settled for one of the worst post-credits scenes ever which saw the Living Vampire meet The Vulture.
The idea of Venom fighting Spider-Man was teased but never followed up on and Sony has now given up on its slate of Marvel spin-offs.
