Ridley Scott's iconic Alien film has spawned a franchise of Xenomorph-fronted films and a bevy of loyal fans. And now the house that Ripley built is headed to the small screen under the tutelage of Fargo and Legion creator, Noah Hawley, with Alien: Earth. In a new clip that was first shared with shareholders during a spectacle-laden call for shareholders with Disney CEO, Bob Iger, the tension and stakes of the original films feels alive and well — though that may be the only thing alive by the time the titular alien arrives on our planet.
The series, which also recently had a new trailer revealed at SXSW, is said to follow a young woman (played by Sydney Chandler) and a "ragtag group of tactical soldiers" who make "a fateful discovery" after "a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth ... that puts them face-to-face with the planet's greatest threat." Director Hansal Mehta known for his brilliant work in film and series, most recently for his hit The Buckingham Murders starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, penned a lengthy post on his X account (@mehtahansal) about his thoughts on the state of Hindi cinema. It is a fascinating look from inside the industry and a first-hand knowledge of what it was, what it is, and where it should go. Pointing out some of the problems he feels are happening within the filmmaking industry and highlighting some of the actors he wants to see more of, he also expands on what he thinks can help. We thought we would share the entire post to showcase his point of view.
“Hindi Cinema Needs a Reset
For those predicting doom for Bollywood—pause. The industry isn’t dying. It’s waiting to be disrupted. The problem isn’t the audience losing interest.

India’s Colour Yellow continues its streak of unconventional storytelling with “Tu Yaa Main,” a new thriller pairing BAFTA nominee Adarsh Gourav with newcomer Shanaya Kapoor in what the filmmakers describe as an “ultimate date fright film.”
The project marks the first collaboration between producers Aanand L. Rai and director Bejoy Nambiar, known for his atmospheric thriller “Shaitan.” The teaser unfolds in what’s described as “hauntingly atmospheric backwaters,” offering glimpses of a narrative that oscillates between romance and pulse-pounding suspense.
The film is positioned as an adrenaline-charged experience that seamlessly blends love, primal terror, and survival. Produced by Himanshu Sharma (the “Haseen Dillruba” franchise) and written by Abhishek Bandekar, the core narrative thrives on the lead pair’s strikingly different socio-economic backgrounds — a deliberate clash that speaks to the characters’ conflicting worldviews.

Our list includes an Oscar-nominated top pick that recently became available for home viewing, another Oscar-nominated new release on VOD, a movie that wasn’t nominated for an Oscar but probably should have been, a past Oscar nominee that would make for a nice double feature with the top pick, and a classic crime thriller available on streaming for the first time.
Top pick: Anuja

The 22-minute film tells the story of sisters Anuja (Sajda Pathan) and Palak (Ananya Shanbhag), orphans in Delhi who work in a sweatshop. 20th Television have dropped yet another teaser for Alien: Earth, their upcoming sci-fi horror series that will serve as a prequel to the first film in the franchise, revealing what happened back home on Earth two years before the events of the 1979 movie.
While we don't have an official premiere date, the series is slated to debut this Summer on FX on Hulu domestically and Disney+ via Star internationally. Also, with the Super Bowl right around the corner, there's a very real possibility that a full-length trailer could debut during the annual event, especially considering the Big Game is airing on Fox.
Plot details remain relatively under wraps, but the basic premise is as follows, "When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet's greatest threat."

Although the film, which is based on real events, often tries to cover too much ground, it continually circles back to the idea that people must see themselves reflected in art, not just out of want, but out of deep desire stemming from need, in order to live with dignity.
Spanning events from 1997 through the early 2010s, the Bollywood biopic primarily follows photographer and wedding videographer Nasir Sheikh (Adarsh Gourav), a lovelorn man in the tiny city of Malegaon, whose few-hundred-mile distance from Mumbai, India’s financial and cinematic capital, may as well be measured in lightyears. Nasir runs a failing movie theater with his older brother Nihal (Gyanendra Tripathi), where he insists on showing Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin classics rather than the latest Bollywood fare,...

Tired of superhero franchises but up for watching a group of larger-than-life misfits with no superpowers but big Bollywood dreams? If so, Superboys of Malegaon may be just for you.
The heartfelt Hindi-language comedy from Amazon MGM Studios, in collaboration with India’s Excel Entertainment and Tiger Baby, is directed by Reema Kagti (Made in Heaven) and is based on the life of Nasir Shaikh, an amateur filmmaker from the town of Malegaon in Western India who made a name for himself.
His work with collaborators, creating their own versions of Indian hit movies but with minuscule budgets, was already the topic of Faiza Ahmad Khan’s 2008 documentary Supermen of Malegaon. Now they’re getting the fiction treatment.
“The residents of the town look to Bollywood cinema for a much-needed escape from daily drudgery. Nasir gets inspired to make a film for the people of Malegaon, by the people of Malegaon,...

Alien: Earth creator Noah Hawley has reflected on the future of the show while it is in post-production. He says that "it could be the next 10 years of my life." The show's longevity could ultimately depend on the franchise not oversaturating the marketplace with theatrical and small screen installments.
Alien: Earth creator Noah Hawley has shared an unusually optimistic outlook on the future of the show. The upcoming FX series, which is a prequel to Ridley Scott's original 1979 sci-fi horror classic, will be set on Earth in the not-too-distant future. The ensemble cast of the Alien: Earth show includes Sugar's Sydney Chandler, Andor's Alex Lawther, Mary & George's Samuel Blenkin, The Babadook's Essie Davis, The White Tiger's Adarsh Gourav, Shadow and Bone's Kit Young, and Justified's Timothy Olyphant.

There’s a lot going on in the world of Alien at the moment. The original classic is returning to theaters, for starters, and the Xenomorphs will be fighting Marvel’s superheroes in the upcoming mashup comic Aliens vs. Avengers. Of course, the main event for 2024 is Fede Alvarez’s Alien: Romulus, a brand new big screen movie set between Alien and Aliens!
With so much going on, you’d be forgiven for forgetting that Disney is also working on an “Alien” television series, in the works for FX from creator Noah Hawley (“Legion”).
The Alien franchise’s first ever television series is likely to arrive sometime in 2025, set to be the first story in the franchise that takes place on Earth, roughly 70 years in the future.
FX teases, “Expect a scary thrill ride set not too far in the future here on Earth.”
So what’s the latest on the “Alien” TV series?...

The Alien franchise will return with its first ever television series in 2025, and it’s set to be the first story in the franchise that takes place on Earth, roughly 70 years in the future.
Creator Noah Hawley‘s take on the Alien franchise has been described as both an “extension and reinvention” of the films, but don’t expect Ridley Scott’s prequel movies to factor into the series. Scott, who’s on board the FX series as producer, dug into the origins of the Xenomorphs in both Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, but Hawley reveals in a new chat with Kcrw’s The Business that he’s not interested in playing with any of those story threads.
Furthermore, he’s only interested in exploring the tech of the original two movies.

A voiceover in the last reel says, ‘When you have real good ‘friends around you’, why do you need ‘followers’? This line, the lines before and after, is the crux of the movie. I’m sure by reading the line one should get a hint what the storyteller has in store. I’m more than sure that the youth of today would ignore or negate the same. Kho Gaye Hum Kahan is a coming-of-age film directed by debutant Arjun Varain Singh.
Kho Gaye Hum Kahan Plotline
Kho Gaye Hum Kahan follows the lives of three best friends (in flesh & blood) Imaad (Siddhant Chaturvedi), Ahana (Ananya Panday) and Neil (Adarsh Gourav) who manage their goals, relationships, and emotions together.
The narrative begins with Imaad performing a stand-up set with Neil and Ahana in the audience. Ahana is not alone, she ‘seems’ to be going steady with Rohan Bhatia (Rohan Gurbaxani) but soon faces a breakup.

Wooooo, wowwww….What a wonderful way to wrap up the year! Kho Gaye Hum Kahan is just the year-ender we needed to dispel the bitter aftertaste of the movieland’s misfires that left us shaken and sadly not stirred.
Kho Gaye Hum Kahan is fresh and inviting, like a hot cup of coffee brewed with care and affection. It is not a great film by any stretch of the imagination. But the three protagonists are young (please note: they are really young and not just pretending to be), eager to step into the world of the rich and the famous. The girl Ahana (Ananya Pandey) is already there. Her two best friends Neel (Adarsh Gourav) and Imaad (Siddhant Chaturvedi) are getting there. There will be pain, heartache, recrimination and reconciliation before the end.

Much appreciated for the way he essayed his character in ‘The White Tiger’, the actor said, “I want to channelise my anger in the right way. I know it is a natural emotion to have but it is self-destructive. I want to channelise it effectively.”
Moving on to how far he could relate to his character Neil from the film, he said, “I genuinely feel Arjun, Nandini, Karan and Zoya, when they cast us, saw the essence of each of the characters that the three of us are playing in the film.
“I instantly related to Neil’s feeling of inadequacy and insecurity — the feeling of financial insecurity in the midst of the people he is surrounded by.

Just one day after we learned that Timothy Olyphant (“Fargo”) has joined the cast of FX’s “Alien” series, Deadline reports that David Rysdahl (“Fargo”) has also signed on.
The upcoming series will reteam both Olyphant and Rysdahl with creator Noah Hawley, who of course previously created the small screen version of “Fargo” they starred in.
Sydney Chandler stars in FX’s “Alien” as Wendy, said to be “a hybrid, a meta-human who has the brain and consciousness of a child but the body of an adult.”
FX’s “Alien” series is expected sometime in 2025.
Essie Davis (The Babadook), Alex Lawther (The End of the F*cking World), Samuel Blenkin (“Black Mirror”), and Adarsh Gourav (The White Tiger) will also star.
Creator Noah Hawley‘s take on the Alien franchise has been described as both an “extension and reinvention” of the films that have come before it, with Ellen Ripley not involved.

Dystopian novel Prophet Song by Irish author Paul Lynch has won the 2023 Booker Prize.
Set in Dublin, the story follows a family dealing with a terrifying new world in which democracy falls away.
The prestigious book award has previously been won by novels including The English Patient, The Remains Of The Day, Life Of Pi, The White Tiger, and Wolf Hall, all of which have been adapted into successful movies or TV series.
Chair of Judges, Esi Edugyan, described Prophet Song, which was the bookmakers’ favorite to win the prize, as “soul-shattering and true,” adding that readers “will not soon forget its warnings.”
The subject matter rings especially true given the scenes of violence that have erupted in Dublin in recent days. Ireland’s police chief Drew Harris this weekend blamed the rioting and violence, which saw multiple people stabbed, on a “lunatic, hooligan faction driven by a far-right ideology...

Fede Alvarez’s upcoming Alien movie is currently set for theatrical release on August 16, 2024, but what about the “Alien” TV series from FX and creator Noah Hawley (“Fargo”)?
According to new comments from Hawley, the “Alien” franchise likely isn’t headed to the small screen until sometime in 2025 – a year after Alvarez’s new movie comes along.
“We’re all just waiting for the strike, and it will end,” Hawley tells TheWrap this week. “The plan right now is to go back in January and be shooting in February, and looks like shoot until July or so, which puts the air date somewhere in the first half of ’25.”
How much of the series has already been filmed? Production began back in July, you may recall, but the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike eventually put a pause on the production.
“I was able to complete filming most of the first hour. That said,...

Indian actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas talked about how she was warned away from doing female-centric films when working in Hindi cinema, as well as her ambitions to expand her portfolio in the U.S., in a conversation with fellow Indian actress Bhumi Pednekar at Mumbai Film Festival today.
In a relaxed master class that focused on the craft of acting, Chopra Jonas explained that she was advised not to take on one of her early films, Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion (2008), in which she starred as a small-town girl who becomes a super-model.
“I signed on for the film right after Krrish, and was told that actresses only do female-oriented projects at the end of their careers so they can win a National Award,” said Chopra Jonas, who moved into acting after winning the Miss World beauty pageant in 2000. “Back then there were not many female-centric movies.”

Relatively little has been concretely revealed about the "Alien" TV show currently in the works for FX. Despite originally being announced just shy of three years ago during Disney's now-infamous 2020 investor presentation where the company announced a ludicrous amount of upcoming projects, we've only heard little bits here and there about this show since then. But series creator Noah Hawley has finally opened up a bit more about the show based on Ridley Scott's beloved 1979 sci-fi film of the same name.
Yesterday, I attended a panel where Hawley spoke during this year's Austin Film Festival. During the panel, the filmmaker talked a fair amount about the show, which will take place on Earth roughly 70 years in the future -- (give or take) just a few years before 2017's "Alien: Covenant" in the overall timeline. In speaking about how he approached crafting a show based in an already existing franchise,...

“All of Us Strangers” screened for press and industry at the 61st New York Film Festival on September 21 and can be seen by general festival goers starting on October 1. This is the latest stop on the festival circuit for the film, which had its world premiere on August 31 at Telluride, where it received stellar reviews. It will next make stops at the BFI London Film Festival and the Chicago International Film Festival before Searchlight Pictures opens the film on December 22. Will it go from NYFF selection to an awards breakthrough for screenwriter-director Andrew Haigh?
Haigh broke through in 2011 with his feature film “Weekend,” which told the story of two men who form an intense bond over the course of a couple of days. Since then Haigh has been known for his sensitive handling of intimate relationship stories, including the HBO series “Looking,” which ran for two seasons and a movie,...
