Emma Thompson indicated that she would not return for this TV sequel. She felt that not enough time had passed after the death of her good friend Alan Rickman, who played her husband in the original film, so she decided that her story would not continue without him.
Due to time constraints, some characters from the original film were omitted. According to Richard Curtis, his own daughters were particularly upset when they were told that Kris Marshall would not be reprising his role as Colin.
This was the first project outside of The Walking Dead (2010) that Andrew Lincoln has appeared in since he began on that show (in 7 years)
Laura Linney will appear in the US television broadcast, in a scene that was not included in the U.K. version.
Rowan Atkinson (Rufus) and Chiwetel Ejiofor (Peter) had both been in an incarnation of The Lion King voicing one of the British Accented characters. Atkinson was in the Original 1994 Traditionally Animated film as Zazu, whilst Ejiofor was in the 2019 Live Action Reboot as Scar.
