The five broadcast networks in May and June unveiled their “fall” 2020 schedules, with Fox and the CW opting for pandemic-proof lineups featuring predominantly original and acquired series already in the can, while NBC, CBS and ABC bet on regular schedules featuring new and returning series yet to be filmed with the caveat that some launches could be delayed by the Covid-related production shutdown.
Faced with uncertainty as the majority of new and returning series are yet to start shooting, NBC, ABC and CBS have started to adjust their fall plans.
NBC today announced a Sept. 1 premiere for Canadian medical drama Transplant, which it acquired in May, weeks into the production shutdown (watch the promo below). The 13-episode series will air in an established medical drama slot, the 10 Pm berth occupied by New Amsterdam for the past two seasons.
Transplant will have two-hour live America’s Got Talent episodes as a lead-in on Sept.

NBC is expanding its medical drama series programming lineup with hit Canadian series Transplant. The network has acquired the 13-episode first season of the medical drama, which is currently airing on Canada’s CTV network. A premiere date will be announced later.
The move continues a network trend of acquiring produced scripted series to bolster programming lineups due to the ongoing coronavirus-caused production shutdowns. There is a lot of uncertainty over when TV series will be able to resume production amid the pandemic.
Since its February 26 premiere on CTV, Transplant is the most-watched Canadian series with total viewers this broadcast year, seeing ongoing week-over-week audience growth.
Created by Joseph Kay, the series centers on Dr. Bashir “Bash” Hamed, a Syrian doctor with battle-tested skills in emergency medicine who fled his country with his younger sister, Amira. Together they struggle to build a new life in Canada as Bash strives to rebuild his career in medicine.

When Netflix announced it had commissioned Clickbait last year, director Matt Richards began lobbying co-creator Tony Ayres, Matchbox Pictures and Film Victoria to seek a director’s attachment.
That persistence paid off and the filmmaker started work on the Melbourne-based production two weeks ago, shadowing Ben Young, who is directing two episodes of the eight-part, Us-set thriller.
Richards will work on the show on-and-off until early April, fitting around his day job as a moving image designer at the National Gallery of Victoria.

I guess justice was served, in a karmic way.
In the end, Anthony was rescued but Henry didn't live to see it on The Disappearance Season 1 Episode 6.
Henry took Anthony's hope at a real family away from him 35 years previously, so David, even in death, found a way to take Henry away from his family as well.
Did Henry, who had been a good man for much of his life, deserve that end for that one horrible decision in his past?
It seemed harsh to me.
As a prosecutor and then judge, Henry was accustomed to seeing the worst in people.
He assumed that the genes of Jason Dodd, who had raped Maggie, would result in David becoming a bad seed.
David growing up in the house of a drug addict who eventually overdosed certainly couldn't have been a plus in Henry's eyes either.

It wasn't only Stephen Price behind Anthony's abduction.
Much of the how and why came together on The Disappearance Season 1 Episode 5.
I'll admit I never saw the twist coming in this case.
My theory was that Price and David Smith were the same people. After all, both were around the same age and were associated with St. James Orphanage.
Why couldn't the Sullivans and the police see a connection that was so obvious?
Granted, I hadn't pieced together the logistics of how a tween-ager could change his name, and that probably should have scuttled the idea from the get-go.
Still, when Paula, Susan's new lead detective, suggested the same possibility, I thought that maybe I was on the right track after all.
But no. I was only half right at best.

That's about as much as the police and the Sullivans were managing as well.

Lord, it's taking a while to connect the dots.
The Sullivans and the police took their investigations in separate directions on The Disappearance Season 1 Episode 4.
What they haven't pieced together yet is what's become obvious to the viewers: the shunned baby resulting from Maggie getting raped by Jason Dodd is the person who kidnapped Anthony, as a way of getting back at the Sullivans.
Luke and Catherine were trying to track down their adopted half-brother, going from birth forward.
Susan and Cooper were investigating Steven Price, starting back with his days at St. James Orphanage.
Sadly, there's just been no connection made yet between the two searches.
We did finally get the sad story of the baby that resulted from the rape of Maggie Sullivan by Jason Dodd.
After hearing the tale, it was simpler to understand why that grown child might blame the Sullivans for his difficult life.

Desperate people do desperate things.
That was the message on The Disappearance Season 1 Episode 3.
The Disapperance Season 1 Episode 2 concluded with Henry feverishly digging at a spot, under the rare tree, that Anthony had indicated on his room map.
Time for a big reveal, right?
No, more like time for a big red herring, for buried where Anthony had placed a sticky-note drawing of a cat was ... the remains of a cat.
More specifically, the remains of nine cats, all decapitated, many of whom were from the cat-nappings of two years ago that the police were investigating.
So what did this discovery, combined with the mutilated cat found above ground in the park, mean for Anthony's case?
Susan tried, ever so hard, to convince the Sullivans that one had nothing to do with the other.

So maybe Henry wasn't crazy after all.
He kept insisting that the Paulownia Tomentosa leaf which Anthony left for him was a crucial clue on The Disappearance Season 1 Episode 2.
Everyone -- family, neighbors, police -- just chalked it up to Henry's anguish over Anthony's abduction.
The other possibility was that Henry was suffering from early-onset Alzheimer's.
It's safe to say that Henry is psychologically off, to use a technical term.
He was having medical issues. Otherwise, why would he be seeing a doctor who consulted scans of his brain on her computer?
There's something beyond Anthony being missing for two years which is causing his outbursts, either vocal or violent.

Wgn America has been running TV series which first ran in other countries, in lieu of programming developed for the cable network. The newest entry in that category is The Disappearance TV show, which originally ran on CTV. Even if it is a success on Wgn America though, it is unlikely to be picked up for another season, since it wound up being a miniseries in Canada. While we don't have to spend much time wondering if The Disappearance will be cancelled or renewed for season two, we're still keeping an eye on the ratings to give us comparisons for other Wgn TV series, so stay tuned.

This miniseries is going to be a tough one to handle.
An adorable blond-haired moppet vanished on The Disappearance Season 1 Episode 1.
Parents watching The Disappearance are now going to do one of two things: either refuse to watch any further or get ready to relate to the emotions which Anthony's parents and grandfather are experiencing.
I'm choosing to do the latter.
This atmospheric production filmed around Montreal is the latest gem Wgn America has imported from Canada.
It's actually inheriting the timeslot previously filled by the underappreciated Pure, which is still waiting for a Season 3 renewal.
The show's creative team made viewers fall in love with Anthony instantly.

Even before The Disappearance‘s little Anthony goes missing, life for the Sullivan family isn’t exactly a peaceful affair — as evidenced by this exclusive sneak peek at Wgn America’s tense new thriller.

Pretty soon, all of his family members are wrapped up in the investigation, consumed by the unthinkable horror of what might’ve happened to the boy. It takes a special acting project to get Peter Coyote to leave his home in California, located about one and a half hours north of San Francisco.
“I'm quasi-retired,” said Coyote, 77, in a recent phone interview with TV Fanatic. “I have a pension from my union, and I don't have to work if I don't want to. Unless a project is compelling, I'm just not going to do it because I'd rather be home.”
Coyote's first TV role since a 2015 episode of Blue Bloods is on The Disappearance, a six-hour miniseries that debuts at 10/9c Tuesday, July 9, on Wgn America.
The series' titular incident is the disappearance on Anthony (played by Michael Riendeau), a precocious, curious boy who vanishes without a trace on his 10th birthday.

Paramount Network ordered 10 one-hour episodes of “68 Whiskey,” a new scripted comedic drama series from Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios. The dark comedy follows a multicultural mix of men and women deployed as Army medics to a forward operating base in Afghanistan nicknamed “The Orphanage.” Together, they endure a dangerous and Kafkaesque world that leads to self-destructive appetites, outrageous behavior, intense camaraderie and occasionally, a profound sense of purpose. Brian Grazer will serve as an executive producer along with Ron Howard, Imagine Television Group Chairman Francie Calfo, Imagine Television President Samie Kim Falvey, and Roberto Benabib (“Weeds”), who is also set to write. Somehow, we made it to the halfway point of 2018.
As summer begins to really take hold, July might not be as packed with headline new shows as previous months were. But for anyone who thought that the allure of the sunny outdoors would curb the insatiable appetite for new TV shows: think again.
(We do this every month — if you missed any of those previous picks, here are some notable TV premieres from February, March, April, May, and June.)
“Mostly 4 Millennials”
It’s been a big week for Adult Swim, with the mesmerizing “Mr. Neighbor’s House 2” premiering this past Sunday night and a new Casper Kelly short in the Infomercial slot. Now, to keep that momentum going comes this unclassifiable piece of satire (?) about a hyperconnected generation with a criminally short attention span.
“Sharp Objects”
One of the summer’s most anticipated series feels like one of the seasons surest bets.
