Sivalinga is a rare kind of movie where serious scenes makes us laugh out loud than the comedy scenes.

Shivalinga (2017): I always hate Lawrence starrer horror films because he always does some cheap horror tricks and mostly fill the movie with loud comedy which results in a half baked movie. This week I have opted for Sivalinga neglecting Mister, only because of Ritika Singh. As a huge fan of her,I wanted to watch her performance as a ghost even though I know that this movie will surely disappoint me.So did my belief come true?

    Plot:

Shivalingeswar(Lawrence) is a CBCID officer who is given the responsibility of cracking a unique murder mystery of a famous coo Rahim (Shakthivel Vasu). As time passes by, he gets hitched to Satyabhama(Ritika Singh) who is in turn possessed by an evil spirit. An upset Shiva is left with the responsibility of handling both his personal and professional problems at once. Who is this evil spirit? Why is she attacking Satyabhama? Does it have any connection with the murder mystery? and how does Shiva crack this case? That forms the rest of the story.

    Plus Points:

1)Ritika Singh: Surprisingly this movie has limited scope for showing her skills but still it felt new watching her in the role.Bad cinematography angles and fake make-up as ghost made her look weird but still her intensity and cuteness overcame all the drawbacks. Her dances are awesome.

2)Plot: Unlike other haunted horror stories.Sivalinga took and interesting backdrop of an investigation.

    Minus Points:

1)Amateur Screenplay: With a decent plot, this movie could have been made interesting but director P.Vasu tried to make this a fun watch which resulted in amateur screenplay and scenes.Entire comedy scenes look flat and surprisingly all the serious scenes are hilarious.Especially the flashback told about Rahim's love story brought tears out of my eyes (Bcoz it is so silly). Investigative scenes made me remember my fav American Comedy Show Angie Tribeca.

2)Music: Rangu Rakkara rakkara Rakkara....... Jinga Jikka raa Jika raa

3)Miscasting of Urvasi as Lawrence's mother: We really missed Kovai Sarala in the role of Lawrence's mother.Urvasi disappoints with her silly acting.

So,Sivalinga is a rare kind of movie where serious scenes makes us laugh out loud than the comedy scenes.

    My rating 5.25/10

One of the worst movies I've ever seen

One of the worst movies I've ever seen. Don't watch this movie if you have a brain... It's just stupid and dumb.

    Nice mix of Horror-Mystery, Masala

The movie is a murder mystery intertwined with horror angle and comedy. Shivalingeswar (Lawrence) plays a CID officer investigating a murder case for which he has to move to a house beside an old cemetery . His wife gets possessed by a spirit . How Shiva solve the case and whats the link between murder investgation and his wife being possessed by soul forms the rest of the story.

Concept is really good with 3 genres being merged in a single move without looking forced. Rather than keeping horror moving dark they kept it light thus opening the scope for wider audience with masala comedy. Acting by all is good especially Ritika Singh.

Listing somethings that could have been better - there is not much emotional connect with the guy who got murdered, it would have really increased the euphoria of culprit getting caught in end multi folds, there should have been more suspicion on other suspects as culprit was the one that most of us would suspect to be, Sound effects and VFX could have been lot better . Horror scenes work on Background music sound effects and VFX and these things can make even a simple story more thrilling. Had they covered these things it would have been a 10 on 10 for me.

Despite all these flaws its surely a decent watch that one wont mind . i will go with 6/10
