Universal Pictures has debuted a new trailer for Christopher Landon’s thriller ‘Drop.
First dates are nerve-wracking enough. Going on a first date while an unnamed, unseen troll pings you personal memes that escalate from annoying to homicidal? Blood-chilling.
Director Christopher Landon returns to the thriller genre with the playful, keep-you-guessing intensity he perfected in the Happy Death Day films with this of-the-moment whodunnit where everyone in the vicinity is a suspect . . . or victim.

What begins as an ordinary first date quickly descends into chaos in Drop, the new high-concept thriller from Christopher Landon, whose gift for genre-blending was previously on full display in Happy Death Day and Freaky. Set entirely over the course of one harrowing night, the film sees White Lotus star Meghann Fahy thrust into a waking nightmare driven by a series of mysterious, increasingly dangerous phone messages.
Fahy plays Violet, a widowed mother cautiously stepping back into the world of dating after years of grieving. Her nerves are eased when she meets Henry, played by Brandon Sklenar (It Ends with Us), whose charm and easy manner appear to offer a spark of new beginnings. But things sour fast. Violet’s phone begins to ping with anonymous messages and cruelly tailored memes – personal jabs that quickly shift from irritating to deeply menacing.
What begins as psychological manipulation escalates to full-blown terror.

Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon was supposed to be working on Scream 7 – but that project turned out to be so troubled, he had to activate his ejector seat and get out of there. While he has since been replaced on Scream 7 by Kevin Williamson, he has been busy lining up other genre projects, signing on to direct the werewolf thriller Big Bad and the “fast-paced thriller” Drop. Coming our way from Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes, the production company team that has previously brought us the Purge franchise, Drop moved forward first, and is aiming for an April 11th theatrical release. With that date swiftly approaching, a new trailer for the film has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above.

While the role of Hannah Montana is now known as the role that launched the career of superstar Miley Cyrus, in another reality, it would have been the big breakout role of Pretty Little Liars starLucy Hale. From the mid-2000s to the early 2010s, the names Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus were inescapable as they were a cultural phenomenon. After 17 years, Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert still remains the highest-grossing Super Bowl weekend opening and Hannah Montana: The Movie grossed $155 million worldwide in 2009. It is hard to imagine anyone else in the role of Hannah Montana, but it turns out the role could have been very different if she had looked like Katy Keene's star.

Following a movie about a rampaging, coke-fueled bear was never going to be easy, but Cocaine Bear writer Jimmy Warden is giving it his best shot with the comic thriller Borderline (out now), which he also directed. A twisted look at the dark side of fame, it stars Samara Weaving, Warden’s wife, as a Nineties pop star who has to fend off a sociopathic stalker who’s convinced he and the object of his obsession are meant to be married.
“Jimmy’s brain is my favorite thing,” Weaving says.

Happy Death Day and Freakydirector Christopher Landon pushes another familiar genre premise to satisfyingly absurd heights in his latest film, Drop. Co-stars Meghann Fahy and Brandon Sklenar are game for the delightfully bonkers thriller, which turns the horrifying experience of dating as a woman into a literal fight for survival.

It’s a good thing director Christopher Landon‘s exit from the “Scream” franchise cleared his schedule: The punchy if risible single-location thriller “Drop” delivers a far more pleasurable jolt than any I.P. could have. Here, “The Bold Type” and “The White Lotus” TV comedy breakout Meghann Fahy proves herself a terrific (and Hitchcock-shade-of-blonde) genre actress as a traumatized widow on the worst first date of her life. Luckily, that first date is in the soothing, handsome presence of Brandon Sklenar as a press photographer with baggage of his own.
Running a cool 90 minutes, “Drop” takes place almost entirely in a top-of-the-world kind of high-rise restaurant in Chicago, where Violet (Fahy) is meeting Henry (Sklenar) off a Tinder-like app, and where this appears to be Violet’s first date after surviving a brutally abusive ex. Everybody wants rom-coms to have a renaissance, but nobody seems to know how they should evolve to reflect the realities of the modern world. Few of the recent efforts to resurrect the form have been meaningfully successful, and most of those rare successes have used hot new stars to hide their reliance on dusty old tropes; no shade to the breezy appeal of “Anyone but You,” but no one would accuse that Shakespeare-inspired charmer of trying to move the genre forward.
The prevailing wisdom is that the unfettered wish fulfillment of movies like “Sleepless in Seattle” (or whatever) is a poor fit for the messiness of the digital age, even if it really had more to do with the fact that social media has made it hard to write a decent meet-cute, and the streaming boom gave Hollywood studios an excuse to stop trying. After her breakthrough role in Pretty Little Liars, Lucy Hale has recently starred in a string of films that offer her own brand of laughs or terror. She confidently struts down the rom-com path with wholesome installments of The Hating Game, ANice Girl Like You or Which Brings Me To You, where she delivers an offbeat intensity around sex and relationships that is awkwardly relatable. On the other hand, her roles in the horror genre, including Truth or Dare or Fantasy Island, take us back to the constant fear and paranoia of being stalked by "A," just in a more mature setting. In 2025, it is about time that these two worlds collided, giving us the ultimate Hale production: F Marry Kill.

As for why writer Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House) isn't set to helm Clayface, it's said he was never going to be among those considered due to commitments to other projects,...

DC Studios is moving full steam ahead with their Clayface movie, which already has a screenplay ready to go by horror auteur Mike Flanagan and a current release date of September 11, 2026. The next stage of the development process is finding the right director, and the DC brass has two potential names in mind for the job.
Per Deadline, Jeff Wadlow and James Watkins are being eyed for the job, and DC Studios is ready to hear pitches from both directors next week. Other directors could very well be in the mix, but these are the two names that are coming out ahead of the rest. Wadlow just recently directed the horror film Imaginary last year, and his other credits include Truth or Dare, the horror remake of Fantasy Island, and Kick-Ass 2, among others. While some of his horror efforts haven't been well-received, some of them have become minor box...

An update has been revealed for Clayface, the DC Studios film that will put the shapeshifting supervillain front and center as the star of his own story. The movie will be written by Mike Flanagan, who has been heavily praised for his horror work, and now two potential directors have been named.
Per Deadline, the filmmakers currently in consideration to direct Clayface include Jeff Wadlow (Truth or Dare) and James Watkins (Speak No Evil). Reportedly, the casting process is underway as well, though no actors have yet been named. The plan is to first get a director on board so the filmmaker can be involved with locking down specific cast members for desired roles. While Flanagan has been praised for his work as a director, he is only handling writing duties on Clayface with no intention of taking the helm himself, as he remains committed to his upcoming Exorcist reboot.

When it was first announced that Mike Flanagan was writing the script for DC’s Clayface movie, many people believed he would ultimately direct it as well, but according to Deadline, Warner Bros. is due to hear pitches from several other potential directors in the coming week. The outlet says that those being considered include Jeff Wadlow (Truth or Dare) and James Watkins (Speak No Evil).
While it would be nice to see Flanagan take the helm of the Clayface movie, the man is very busy with other projects, such as writing, directing, and producing the new Exorcist movie. Not much is known about the project at this stage, only that it is said to be a “horror-thriller-tragedy.“

More than 30 years after Madonna: Truth or Dare, the documentary still has a hold on LGBTQ pop music and cinema.
In Troye Sivan‘s new Grindr campaign Tap or Block, directed by Jake Wilson and produced by Juxtapose Studio’s Charlie Wilson (no relation), the Australian gay pop-star and his Something to Give Each Other Tour dancers discuss hotel sex, open relationships, communication and more as they pay tribute to the 1991 Alek Kesheshian and Mark Aldo Miceli-helmed documentary.
“What was really fun about this idea is it came around really organically,” Charlie Wilson tells Deadline. “Once we had Troye’s interest and Grindr’s interest, it seemed like such a natural segue from really hearing how proud Troye was about this tour and how close his relationship was with these dancers, and thinking about how Grindr is this boundary-pushing, sex-positive brand.”

Exclusive: Aurora Perrineau (Prodigal Son) has been tapped for an undisclosed role in Angels in the Asylum, an upcoming indie drama marking the feature debut of writer-director Rob Sorrenti.
Perrineau joins an ensemble which also includes Katherine Waterston, Simon Pegg, Minnie Driver, Cush Jumbo, Rose Williams and Miriam Margolyes, as previously announced.
Inspired by a BBC Newsnight exposé, the film tells the untold story of 50 women who were forcibly confined in isolation at Surrey’s Long Grove Asylum. Beginning in 1907, these women — deemed typhoid carriers — were imprisoned in the former psychiatric hospital, their lives shaped by fear, stigma, and medical injustice. Pic explores their struggle for freedom and dignity in the face of a system that saw them as threats rather than individuals, shedding light on a dark chapter in medical history.
Heather Greenwood, Marie-Elena Dyche and Charlotte Carey are producing the pic, currently shooting in the UK, with Parkland Pictures handling sales.

Director Christopher Landon gives a behind-the-scenes look at his upcoming film Drop in the new featurette below.
“I wrote a film called Disturbia, which was Hitchcock by way of John Hughes. This felt like the evolution of that kind of a film,” Landon explains. “It straddles Hitchcock, but it’s also very much like a ’90s thriller, but it’s using very modern technology.”
Produced by Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes, the horror-thriller drops in theaters on April 11 from Universal.
Meghann Fahy (“The White Lotus”) and Brandon Sklenar (It Ends With Us) star as a couple on a blind first-date whose romantic dinner spirals into a deadly game of cat-and-mouse in which everyone’s a suspect.

If you were unaware, Sza dated Drake back in 2009. She has previously referred to their relationship as “childish.”

With that date swiftly approaching, a trailer for Drop has dropped and can be seen in the embed above.

Things kick up a notch in the third episode of BBC’s comedy horror. Here’s our thoughts on Video Nasty episode 3.
After two episodes of setting up the scene, Video Nasty finally gets into the meat of the story in episode 3, entitled Fangoria Fangirl after Billy’s pen pal. The series has teased its horror elements in its previous episodes and good things come to those who wait as Video Nasty shifts gears.
This time, Billy, Con and Zoe have reached their destination of Ashfield, a small, quaint English village in the Midlands. They’re due to meet Billy’s penpal at the local pub, but something’s a little off as the trio ran into someone in a disturbing witch doctor mask in the woods.
The teens think it was just someone local dressed up for Ashdale’s annual festival, which pays respects for those who lost their...

Imagine this: You’ve been documenting your favorite albums throughout the year and you are ready to write your Top 10 list, but then that artist who never makes bad music decides to bless us with a surprise release in the fourth quarter.
In 2022 it was Sza and Sos, and it only took a few listens of that marvelous album to rise to No. 2 on my list, necessitating a rewrite. This year it’s Kendrick Lamar and Gnx — a last-minute drop that easily made it to this year’s list, along with several other stunning projects that have been in heavy rotation in my AirPods and appeared all over my Spotify Wrapped.
1. Beyoncé, Cowboy Carter
At 27 tracks, Cowboy Carter is more than an album. It’s supreme art that also serves as a history lesson. Reclaiming a genre created by Black people, Beyoncé tackles country music in her own way, with stunning results.

Just in time for Halloween, a trailer for the BuzzFeed Studios-produced comedy thriller F Marry Kill made its way online (you can watch it in the embed above), and at that time the film was set to receive a digital, VOD, and limited theatrical release on December 6th. Since then, the release was pushed back to sometime in March in an effort to align the domestic release with its international roll-out… but some of the PVOD platforms didn’t get the message. As Deadline reports, F Marry Kill reached some digital stores and PVOD on December 6th, then disappeared a few hours later. So if you managed to catch the movie during that brief window last Friday – congratulations, you got a special sneak peek! If you didn’t catch it, there’s still three months left to wait for it.
