Netflix's longest-running original series, Virgin River, has already been renewed for season 7, but fans are still reeling from the developments of the just-released season 6. Willie Aames, best known for his teen actor roles in Eight is Enough and Charles in Charge, is set to star alongside Natalie Grace in the dark comedy Armageddon Road.

The indie, written, directed and produced by Karen Lam, is shooting in British Columbia. Set in Las Vegas in 1976, Armageddon Road follows a hapless ex-con hired by a mob boss to chauffeur his girlfriend for an evening, only to find his passenger dies of a cocaine overdose.

After her body is taken over by one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse, the driver is convinced to take her to what will be Armageddon in the Nevada desert. Opiate Pictures Inc. and Black Moon Media are producing the film that will use miniature sets created by Gary Young (Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, The Predator and Godzilla) to be projected on an LED volume wall the actors will use as a backdrop for their performances.

One former James Bond actor is set to dip his toes back into the spy genre. A new report from Deadline revealed that Pierce Brosnan is set to star in A Spy's Guide To Survival for Uri Singer's Passage Pictures. Simon Barry, who previously served as showrunner and creator for Warrior Nun and Ghost Wars, wrote the script and will make his directorial debut with the upcoming spy thriller. As a writer, Barry has spent most of his career in television for the better part of the last 20 years, with his last writing credit on a screenplay coming in The Art of War (2000), which starred Wesley Snipes and Donald Sutherland.

With all the questions surrounding the next James Bond, Pierce Brosnan has given all of the two cents that he could. He’s dusted off inquiries and given his advice to the possible next actor, straight from his own experience of filling in the tux of the famous Ian Fleming 007 agent. While rumors still run rampant about Aaron Taylor-Johnson being courted for the role, no announcement has been made. However, Brosnan did give his approval of him for the role, saying, “I think the man has the chops and the talent and the charisma to play Bond, very much so.”

Pierce Brosnan has signed to star in the romantic thriller In The Wind, from Uri Singer’s Passage Pictures.

The production is the feature directorial debut of Simon Barry, whose previous credits inlclude creator and showrunner on Netflix fantasy show Warrior Nun as well as Syfy show Ghost Wars.

The film, originally announced A Spy’s Guide To Survival, centers around a reclusive, retired spy who is brought out of hiding by his enigmatic new neighbor, digging up both of their secrets in the process.

Barry also takes writer credits for the screenplay, which is based on a story by his father Derek Barry.

“As a longtime Pierce Brosnan fan, I’m extremely grateful to have the opportunity to work alongside someone I admire for their craft, character and humanity,” said Barry.

Season seven of Travel Channel and discovery+’s Kindred Spirits will find paranormal investigators Amy Bruni and Adam Berry investigating a former poorhouse in Pennsylvania, a haunted library in Rhode Island, and the haunted town of Palmyra, New York. The new 10-episode season will kick off on January 20, 2023, with new episodes airing on Fridays at 9pm Et/Pt.

Bruni and Berry will once again be joined by psychic medium Chip Coffey as they attempt to help people who are experiencing terrifying paranormal activity.

Grammy winner Meat Loaf, the “Bat Out of Hell” singer whose acting credits include the cult classic film Rocky Horror Picture Show and Syfy’s Ghost Wars, has died at the age of 74. A cause of death has not been disclosed.

“We know how much he meant to so many of you and we truly appreciate all of the love and support as we move through this time of grief in losing such an inspiring artist and beautiful man,” Meat Loaf’s family said in a statement to Deadline. “From his heart to your souls… don’t ever stop rocking!

Meat Loaf, the hardworking singer and actor whose theatrical Bat Out of Hell is one of the best-selling albums ever and who played Eddie in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, has died. He was 74.

The Grammy winner born Marvin Lee Aday died Thursday night surrounded by his wife Deborah, daughters Pearl and Amanda and close friends, Meat Loaf’s longtime agent Michael Greene told Deadline on behalf of the family. A cause of death is not being released. According to TMZ, the singer died of Covid-related complications.

Prolific television director David Von Ancken, who also helmed the feature Seraphim Falls, passed away July 26 at his home in Agoura Hills, CA after a two-year battle with aggressive stomach cancer. He was 56.

David Von Ancken, known lovingly as “Dva,” was born in New York on December 5, 1964. His career got off to a hot start with the 2001 short Bullet In the Brain, starring Tom Noonan and Dean Winters, which Von Ancken wrote and directed. It won Universal/Hypnotic Films’ Million Dollar Film Festival as well as numerous other festival awards and opened the doors for Von Ancken to embark on a directing career.

He became a sought-after — and beloved — episodic director who worked on some three dozen series over the past two decades, including Oz, Without a Trace, The Shield, Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries, The Mentalist, Person of Interest, The Following, Intelligence, House of Lies, MacGyver, The Crossing and The Purge.

Vincent D'Onofrio is drawing a lot of praise from fans in honor of the chameleon actor's 62nd birthday. Netflix has ordered a second season of drama series Warrior Nun. The renewal comes about six weeks into the series’ Season 1 launch. Watch the announcement video below.

Inspired by the manga novels, Warrior Nun hails from creator/executive producer Simon Barry, who also serves as showrunner. It revolves around a 19-year-old woman (Alba Baptista) who wakes up in a morgue with a new lease on life and a divine artifact embedded in her back. She discovers she now is part of an ancient order that has been tasked with fighting demons on Earth, and powerful forces representing both heaven and hell want to find and control her.

Baptista, Kristina Tonteri-Young, Lorena Andrea, Toya Turner and Olivia Delcán are set to reprise their roles as the core group of demon-fighting nuns. Additional Season 2 casting is Tba.

Barry executive produces with Stephen Hegyes. Amy Berg is consulting producer. Terri Hughes Burton is co-executive producer.

Netflix's new comedy Teenage Bounty Hunters centers on a pair of twins, Sterling and Blair, who team up with an established bounty hunter to track down bad guys and collect the rewards. So are the actresses actually twins in real life, or is this just a case of really good casting?

Although they certainly look like they could be twins in real life, actresses Maddie Phillips and Anjelica Bette Fellini, both 25, aren't even related at all. Manga fans rejoice! Warrior Nun has been adapted into a new ten-episode series as part of Netflix’s increased science fiction slate. The series is being brought to the small screen by creator and showrunner, Simon Barry, who is known for his breakout hit Canadian time travel series, Continuum, and who recently produced a short-lived, supernatural series for Syfy called Ghost Wars. He is joined on the production side by Terri Hughes Burton of The 100 and Eureka, and Amy Berg of Counterpart fame will be on board as a consulting producer.

Netflix has had a lot of success with in-house comic book adaptations. Shows like Jessica Jones and Daredevil were important early hits and they’ve followed them up with the award-winning Umbrella Academy (check out the recent trailer for season 2 above) and movies like The Old Guard (which looks very promising). That winning streak will hopefully continue with Warrior Nun, which is sounding like it’s going to kick some serious ass.

The show is based on Ben Dunn’s comic book series Warrior Nun Areala, which began in 1994 and tells the tale of the Order of the Cruciform Sword, a mysterious order of warrior nuns fighting for the Catholic Church. The story has vastly expanded over the years, creating a lengthy continuity that manages to make this world of super-powered battle nuns weirdly plausible. Netflix’s take on it seems to be to taking it back to basics though,...

The news that The Order season 2 was assured on Netflix was almost certainly welcome for those viewers who were wondering what would happen to the Knights of St. Christopher werewolves after the events of the season finale. Fortunately, the show returns this summer, and lead actors Sarah Grey and Jake Manley are on board for the new season.

The Order may have snuck under people’s radar, but enough people tuned in to the series about a secret magical society hidden on a college campus for Netflix to keep the story going. The show comes from co-creators Dennis Heaton (Ghost Wars) and Shelley Eriksen (Continuum) and Nomadic Pictures, which also produces the hit vampire series Van Helsing for Syfy. Adding the element of justice-seeking werewolves to an otherwise familiar formula of hidden magic-users must have been just what viewers were looking for.

Lisbon-born Baptista most recently starred in Marco Pontecorvo’s upcoming feature Fatima opposite Harvey Keitel, as well as Gonçalo Waddington’s drama Patrick, which was in competition at San Sebastián.

Yes, you read that right. There is indeed a series coming to Netflix called Slutty Teenage Bounty Hunters. The series is being brought to the streamer by Kathleen Jordan, writer of American Princess and Threesome, Jenji Kohan, creator of Weeds, Orange is the New Black, and Tara Herrmann, producer of Orange is the New Black and Glow. Maddie Phillips and Anjelica Bette Fellini (The Gifted) have just signed on to play the lead roles of teen twin sisters turned bail bondsmen. Here’s the official synopsis from Deadline:

Slutty Teenage Bounty Hunters centers on 16-year-old fraternal twin sisters Sterling (Phillips) and Blair (Fellini) Wesley, who after joining forces with a veteran bounty hunter Bowser Simmons (Hardison), dive into the world of bail skipping baddies while still navigating the high stakes of teenage love and sex. Sterling and Blair plan to excel in all aforementioned extracurriculars, despite the watchful eye of their buttoned-up community.

The upcoming Netflix comedy series “Slutty Teenage Bounty Hunters” has cast its two leads.

Maddie Phillips and Anjelica Bette Fellini will star as the titular teens in the new series executive produced by Jenji Kohan. Phillips and Fellini will star as fraternal twin sisters Sterling and Blair Wesley. In addition, Kadeem Hardison has been cast as Bowser Simmons, while Virginia Williams has been cast as Debbie Wesley.

In the series, after joining forces with a veteran bounty hunter (Kadeem Hardison), sixteen-year-old fraternal twin sisters Sterling (Phillips) and Blair (Fellini) dive into the world of bail skipping baddies while still navigating the high stakes of teenage love and sex. Sterling and Blair plan to excel in all aforementioned extracurriculars, despite the watchful eye of their buttoned-up community.

Phillips’ previous series credits include appearances on shows like “Van Helsing,” “Supernatural,” “Ghost Wars,” and “Lucifer.” She is repped by Trisko Talent Management and Artists First.

Spain’s big shoot business is rocking, galvanized by more regional options and incentives that are highly competitive — at least in rates.

Spain’s mainland offers 20% tax rebates for international productions, capped at €3 million ($3.4 million); in the Canary Islands, the rate is 40%, with a €5.4 million ($6.1 million) ceiling.

“Tax advantages are attracting all kind of international productions,” says Nostromo’s Adrián Guerra, president of producers’ association Profilm.

“There are so many productions going on all over Spain that it’s becoming difficult to crew up on new productions,” he adds.

Challenges remain. The tax system is predominantly luring low-to-mid-range foreign projects.

Paris-based company About Premium Content (Apc) is on board to co-finance and handle international sales on “The Murders,” a gritty Canadian police thriller series starring Jessica Lucas. The series was created by Damon Vignale (“The Exhibition”) who is showrunning and executive producing.

The eight-part series is being produced by Arielle Boisvert at Muse Entertainment, in association with Rogers Media’s network Citytv. The series started to shoot Tuesday.

Lucas (pictured) stars as Kate Jameson, a rookie homicide detective who searches for redemption in her investigative work after indirectly causing the death of a fellow officer. Netflix is expanding its slate of sci-fi projects with three new series, including one with Kate Bosworth starring and Neil Labute as writer, director and showrunner.

While it may seem like Netflix is becoming a destination for endless original content, the latest three series ordered sound very interesting.

The streamer announced Friday that it has ordered The I-Land, October Faction, and Warrior Nun to series, and has even offered up some casting details for one of them.

"When ten people wake up on a treacherous island with no memory of who they are or how they got there, they set off on a trek to try to get back home," reads the official logline for The I-Land the seven-part drama.

"They soon discover this world is not as it seems. Faced with the island’s extreme psychological and physical challenges, they must rise to their better selves -- or die as their worst ones."

Netflix is expanding its sci-fi/genre portfolio with three new series orders, to Neil Labute’s The I-Land, starring Kate Bosworth, Natalie Martinez and Alex Pettyfer; October Faction, based on the Idw comics by Steve Niles, and Warrior Nun, inspired by the Manga novels.

Netflix has ordered 10 episodes of October Faction, from creator/executive producer Damian Kindler, High Park Entertainment in association with Idw Entertainment; seven episodes of The I-Land, from Nomadic Pictures Entertainment, with Bosworth also producing; and 10 episodes of Warrior Nun, from creator/executive producer Simon Barry.

They join the recently picked up new sci-fi series The Order, Wu Assassins, Locke & Key, V Wars, and Another Life as Netflix is making in big push in the genre arena as is rival Amazon.

The I-Land marks Magic Mike star Pettyfer’s TV series debut. Bosworth previously did stints on The Art of More, Young Americans and BBC’s SS-bg.

Chicago – Ethan Hawke has made 2018 his year, and on June 7th the Gene Siskel Film Center of Chicago recognized his recent artistic achievements and his career by honoring him with their annual Renaissance Award. The event included a Red Carpet walk, and an on-stage talk with his friend, actor Vincent D’Onofrio.

Ethan Hawke got high praise for his performance in writer/director Paul Schrader’s “First Reformed,” which was released in May. He portrays the minister of a Christian church that is losing its congregation, except for a young married couple who seeks his counsel. Hawke is also behind the camera as director for “Blaze,” a biography of country singer Blaze Foley, set for release in July.
