South Korean A-list actor Kim Soo-hyun made an emotional appearance at a press conference Monday, vehemently denying allegations that he dated actress Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor.
“I can’t admit to something I didn’t do,” the 37-year-old star declared through tears, according to the BBC, addressing the controversy that has rocked the Korean entertainment industry since Kim Sae-ron’s apparent suicide in February.
The scandal centers on two explosive claims: that Kim Soo-hyun had a relationship with Kim Sae-ron when she was just 15, and that his agency pressured her to repay a debt prior to her death.
Kim Soo-hyun, star of Netflix’s recent hit “Queen of Tears” and beloved for roles in “My Love from the Star” and “Secretly, Greatly,” acknowledged dating the actress, but insisted their relationship occurred only between 2019 and 2020, when she was an adult.

When talking about the greatest zombie films of all time, Train to Busan is undeniably a key contender. With its gripping story, distinctive train setting, and nonstop zombie action, it stands out as a game-changer in the genre. A common theme in romantic K-dramas involves the lead protagonists going from adversaries to lovers. Romance K-dramas are becoming one of the most popular genres of television, due in large part to their ability to tell a sweet and engaging love story. Plenty of K-dramas contain swoonworthy kissing scenes and excellent chemistry between the two leads.
Although K-dramas like Reply 1988 and Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo showcase how adorable a good friends-to-lovers plot can be, the gradual evolution of a relationship built on hate into a full-blown love story is still sought after for the drama and humor it can bring. This particular theme has become quite prevalent over the years. Watching the leads bicker and fight until they slowly realize they're in love is a key part of the appeal.

Rushed final episodes of "Queen of Tears" dull the incredible moments built up throughout the series. 16-episode format hindered the finale's impact, suggesting a 20-episode structure would have been more suitable. Pacing issues in the finale of "Queen of Tears" detracted from the emotional impact of the final moments.
Despite an incredible lead-up to the last two episodes, Queen of Tears finale could not maintain its momentum. The final episodes of Queen of Tears saw the conclusion of Hong Hae-in and Baek Hyun-woos turbulent love story, which led them from marriage to divorce and back again and gave fans the happy ending that, for a long time, never felt possible. However, despite Queen of Tears ending being a great homage to Hae-in and Hyun-woos love, the lead-up to their final moments had one major flaw.

Queen of Tears has become one of Tvn's most-watched K-dramas, expected to surpass Crash Landing on You in ratings. Lovely Runner, based on Tomorrow's Best, starring Kim Hye-yoon and Byeon Woo-seok, could be the next big hit in 2024. Lovely Runner's blend of comedy and emotion, along with the chemistry between the leads, makes it a perfect replacement for Queen of Tears.

Adding fantastical elements to K-Dramas enhances plots, deepening character arcs with supernatural themes. Fantasy provides a means for characters to explore desires and hidden truths within a larger storyline. Strong actors bring complex roles to life in fantasy worlds, elevating formulaic narratives with intrigue.
Some of the best K-Drama shows incorporate fantasy elements into their best stories to critical and audience acclaim. Well-known folklore, familiar fantasy novels, or present-day fascination with magic and multiple realities make their way into the cultural consciousness and then come to life on television in K-dramas. Many of the best K-drama romances incorporate aspects of magical realism into their plots. However, the best fantasy shows go all out in delving into hidden worlds and supernatural themes.
Fantastical plotlines elevate formulaic narratives, like procedural dramas, by including another layer of mystery and intrigue.

Korean dramas are getaway portals into the comfort zone for many passionate dreamers because they present romance in the most admirable way imaginable. Over the years, we've seen several dramas, such as The Legend of the Blue Sea, Goblin, and My Love From the Star, that set high standards that will be difficult to meet for many years to come.

America has already embraced two Korean musical imports — attractive K-pop bands and private for-rent karaoke rooms — but now, the popularity of “The Masked Singer” has opened the door to a possible new obsession: Korean game shows. The bizarre singing competition disguises celebrities from head to toe, and their identities are only revealed when they’re voted out.
It’s the first western adaptation of the show, which goes by the name “King of Mask Singer” in South Korea, and has attracted half a billion fans worldwide. For insight into the culture that could create such an outlandish show, IndieWire turned to Sebastian Lee, a TV producer who brought “The Good Doctor” concept to America from Korea. Although he specializes in scripted television — he’s next hoping to find a network for the romantic alien drama “My Love From the Star” — Lee can’t escape the ubiquity of pop music and musical competition shows in Korea.
