Mumbai, Aug 21 (Ians) Acclaimed actor Pankaj Tripathi’s father Pandit Banaras Tiwari has died at the age of 99. The final rites will be taking place on Monday.

According to reports, Pankaj was shooting in Uttarakhand for a film, and is now on his way back to his village in Gopalganj, Bihar.

An official statement read: “It’s with a heavy heart to confirm that Pankaj Tripathi’s father, Pandit Banaras Tiwari is no more. He lived a wholesome life of 99 years.”

“His last rites will be performed today amongst his close family. Pankaj Tripathi is currently on his way to his village in Gopalganj,” the statement added.

Pankaj’s latest release is Omg 2 with Akshay Kumar and Yami Gautam. It has been performing well at the box office. The film on its tenth day has collected Rs. 113.67 crore at the box office.

The railways have now decided to give a makeover to the City station.

The station, with a daily traffic load of 1,600 passengers is to be modernised under the ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme’ of the Union Ministry of Railways.

"I wanted to tell a unique story that will challenge my brain, allow me to dive deeper into building new dimension of characters, paving a new grammar of storytelling for a new age audience," said Tiwari.

The filmmaker, who shot to fame directing "Bareilly Ki Barfi", "Panga" and "Nil Battey Sannata" has joined hands with SonyLIV for her Ott debut.

"We have shared similar passion and excitement over the years when it comes to the stories we want to say, and taking a similar journey forward, this unconventional screenplay and long format medium will surely make me learn, think on my toes and hopefully stir hearts with its relatable concept," said Tiwari.

Mumbai, March 11: Pankaj Tripathi rose to prominence with roles as the power hungry Guruji in Sacred Games and the dreaded gangster Kaleen Bhaiya in Mirzapur. The actor says he always injects humour into his dark roles so that they don't come across as extreme instances of negativity.

"I use this technique purposefully to ensure that my characters don't come off as ultimate extreme (instances) of negativity. Human nature has both sides - the good and the bad - which may be unbalanced, but never completely void of the other," Pankaj said.

He feels villains should have another side, too.

"Unlike earlier, when villains were only shown to be villainous, I think I should show the other side of them, too, through comedy or small gestures, to make them realistic and perhaps relatable," he said.

Pankaj has always managed to come across as a grounded person, even though he has tasted success.

New Delhi, Feb 25: Actress Kriti Sanon has a packed year ahead, with five films scheduled to release. Her projects are at different stages of production, boast of either big production houses or new genre or high expectation from fans owing to commercial value.

New Delhi, Nov 11 (Ians) Critically acclaimed actor Rajkummar Rao is proud of his filmography, but he says he does not watch his past works again in order to analyse his performances.

Last month, the 2013 biographical drama "Shahid", which fetched him a National Award, turned seven. Asked what he sees when he looks back at his work, Rajkummar told Ians: "I feel proud that I am part of such films that people will know me of, because of this filmography. I don't really re-watch my performances, but if I see bits here and there, I always feel that I could have done it better."

Producer Priti Shahani, known for delivering offbeat Bollywood hits like Bareilly Ki Barfi, Raazi and Badhaai Ho, has stepped down as President of Junglee Pictures. Discrimination has been a burning topic in the country. Actor Ayushmann Khurrana, who is continuing on the path of backing ground-breaking content with Article 15, says the film industry is a secular world where no one discriminates on the basis of caste or religion.

Ayushmann, whose filmography is dotted with unconventional stories, features as a police officer in Anubhav Sinha's Article 15, a film which emphasises on prohibition of discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth, which finds a mention in the Indian Constitution.

The actress says the situation is getting balanced out, with female actors also getting what they deserve monetarily. On male actors being paid more than their female counterparts in films, Kriti told Ians over an e-mail interview: "I've always believed that pay has to be decided on the amount of work that you put in a film and the numbers your films drive at the box office.

"The situation is slowly but steadily balancing out where female actors are also getting their monetary due. But we still have a long way to go."
