Mumbai, March 19 (Ians) Actress Radhika Madan has made a mark as a Bollywood actress with her roles in "Angrezi Medium", "Pataakha" and "Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota". However, before her film debut in 2018, she was a well-known television star.

Talking about her transition from television to films, the actress said it was important to shed the ego that comes with television stardom.

"In television, fame comes really quickly, so you get the ego boost really quickly. Once the ego is high up there and you want to start with films, I don't think a lot of people are ready to bring their ego down and start as a student," she told Ians.

Mumbai, March 14 (Ians) For actress Radhika Madan, her film 'Angrezi Medium' will always remain close to her heart. As the film completed one year of its release on Saturday, she recalled working with late actor Irrfan Khan, who passed away in April 2020.

Speaking to Ians, Radhika, who played the role of 'Tarika', revealed how one incident during the film's shoot gave her learning for a lifetime.

"We were going to shoot a very important scene in the film. I was very nervous about it and I was just roaming with the script here and there. I saw a tall man doing the same thing and wondered who is the person doing the same thing. Then, when I went closer I realized it was Irrfan sir."

Radhika said, "I got to learn that it must have been his nth film and he was still a student.

Mumbai, March 14 (Ians) Actor Pavail Gulati, who recently shot an ad with actress Alia Bhatt, says that he likes taking up ad shoots. However, the actor adds that the short time doesn't allow him to interact with everyone else on the set.

"Filming for ads is fun. The only difference between shooting for a film and shooting for an ad is, I think, the time involved to shoot. For an ad, you shoot only for a couple of days, so you don't get to interact with everybody like you do on a film set. You work for a longer time on a film set and that kind of brings you closer together," says Pavail, who has been seen in film such as "Ittefaq", "Thappad" and "Kalank".

Talking about filming his recent ad with Alia, Pavail says that the entire experience was amazing. "It was a fun, quirky shoot. I had a blast.

Saroj Khan, one of the most prominent Indian dance choreographers in Hindi cinema whose career spanned more than 40 years, has died. Khan passed away Friday from cardiac arrest in a Mumbai hospital, her nephew Manish Jagwani confirmed to Pti news agency. She was 71.

Over the course of her career, Khan known as The Mother of Dance/Choreography in India, choreographed over 2000 songs. The three-time National Film Award winner began her career as an assistant choreographer, later getting her break with the 1974 Hindi film Geeta Mera Naam.

Khan became renowned for her choreography in the 1980s, working with leading stars such as Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi Kapoor. She choreographed Kapoor in the song “Hawa Hawai” in 1987’s Mr. India. Her other notable films include Nagina, Chandni, Thanedaar and Gulaab Gang, and most recently, the 2019 films Kalank, The Gandhi Murder and Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi.

Playback singer Neeti Mohan says she has observed that a woman gets fewer lines in a duet track for a film, but personally, she emphasizes on the importance of a song rather than the length of her part.

Neeti told the publication: "I think last year, I was feeling it too much that the female part in a duet song is much shorter than the male part in the song, but I think it is slowly changing. This year I did not have such a song."

"In my song 'First Class' from the film Kalank, I was okay with the shorter part in the duet because it was to praise the man. In the Bharat?song 'Aithey aa' also I have a substantial part. My problem starts when I see that in a situation when the girl is telling her feeling, say crying or laughing, the song is sung by a male singer.

Actors Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor are set to wrap up the Dubai schedule for the forthcoming film "Street Dancer 3D".

"Street Dance 3D" is a dance drama being directed by D'souza, who helmed "Abcd: Anybody Can Dance" and "Abcd 2". It is set to hit the screens in January 2020.

Actress Kiara Advani says superstar Salman Khan asked her to change her first name because of Alia Bhatt.

Kiara revealed this in an episode of Voot's "Feet Up with the Stars Season 2", read a statement.

"Aaliya is my first name. Salman Khan suggested me to change it because of Alia Bhatt because there can't be two actresses with the same name in Bollywood," Kiara said.

"He suggested the change, but 'Kiara' is the name that I chose. Now even my parents have started to call me Kiara," she added.

The actress also spoke about how she bagged "Lust Stories" without auditioning for the role.

Kalank singer Antara Mitra is coming up with the rendition of a song, written and composed by the iconic Nobel prize winner poet and composer Rabindranath Tagore on the occasion of his 159th birth anniversary in May. Talking about the music video, Antara told Ians here, "My father who is a music teacher always told me that being a Bengali singer, I should come up with my rendition of Rabindra Sangeet, because Tagore is an integral part of our culture. Bollywood has given me recognition but I must not forget my roots. So this year, on the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, I am planning to come up with a video in which I sang the song."

New Line/DC Entertainment’s family superhero adventure Shazam! easily retained the top spot in its third weekend virtually by default.

One reason for the dreary Easter weekend trading: Distributors were unwilling to launch films for fear of being crushed by the Disney/Marvel juggernaut Avengers: End Game, which opens on Wednesday.

But an underlying factor is the generally lousy performance of Hollywood films this year. In the Us pundits described the Easter business as the worst since 2003. The Us box office for the year to date stands at $2.9 billion, down 16 per cent on 2018.

The only new wide release was the James Wan-produced horror pic The Curse of the Weeping Woman (aka The Curse of La Llorona), which opened at No. 1 in the Us but was a distant fifth here.

Warner Bros. and New Line’s “The Curse of La Llorona” led the way at the international box office, summoning $30 million when it opened in 71 foreign markets.

The supernatural thriller collected $26.5 million in North America for a global start of $56.5 million. “La Llorona,” based on the Mexican folklore about the Weeping Woman, had the best showing in Mexico where it debuted with $5.3 million. Other top territories include Colombia ($2.4 million), France ($2.1 million), and Spain ($1.7 million).

In another win for Warner Bros. and New Line, “Shazam!” crossed the $200 million overseas. The DC superhero tentpole added another $22 million from 80 territories this weekend, bringing its global haul to $322.8 million. “Shazam!” opened in Japan with $2 million.

Disney’s live-action remake of “Dumbo” also hit a significant milestone, surpassing $300 million in ticket sales. Director Tim Burton’s re-imagining of the classic cartoon brought in $13.7 million from 55 markets for an international bounty of $206.6 million.

With the oddly titled Kalank (Blemish), we find Bollywood in something of a pickle. Since the runaway global success of the two-part Telugu epic Baahubali, Indian producers have followed a bigger-is-better credo, drumming up a succession of thunderous historical throwbacks such as Manikarnika, which summoned multitudes of extras but precious little poetry or wonder.

Audiences have started to gravitate instead towards more personal stories and pithier genre fare, such as surprise-pregnancy comedy Badhaai Ho and horror Stree.

Kalank is probably the biggest film of 2019 so far taking that title from some strong movies already released. As the title suggests, its main prerogative is to deal with one mistake and its consequences. To this end a superstar cast led by Madhuri Dixit with Sanjay Dutt in tow, Aditya Roy Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha and finally young lovers Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan will show from different perspectives the meanings behind and around Kalank. Since budget is of no consequence Pritam has been asked to deliver 10 strong pieces to create a soundtrack that will rival the story, giving plenty of chance for all to dance.

Holdovers look set to dominate the UK box office this weekend, with Trevor Nunn’s spy drama Red Joan amongst the new openers.

Produced by David Parfitt’s Trademark Films, the Lionsgate-distributed feature is led by Judi Dench and 2014 Screen Star of Tomorrow Sophie Cookson, and based on the novel of the same name by Jennie Rooney. Cookson plays Joan Stanley, a Cambridge physics student in 1938 who falls for a young communist; while Dench takes up the character in 2000 when MI5 come to arrest her.

The Wednesday?s premier release, Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala?s ?much anticipated multi-starrer Kalank, featuring Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Sonakshi Sinha, Alia Bhat, Varun Dhawan and Aditya Roy, embarked on an expected and predictable good to bumper start, netting 22 crore (to be validated) during the opening day.

Actor Aditya Roy Kapur, who is awaiting the release of Kalank and is gearing up for two more films, says a break of two years in his career has been good for him to approach his craft better. "In Kalank, I am playing a character which is quite strong, quiet, a little complex, yet interesting. That drew me towards the character when I heard the narration from director Abhishek Verman.

"It required me to do something. I am the happiest when I am at a film set, so after two years when we started shooting, I was more than excited. That break in between was good for me because I had a fresh approach to my performance," Aditya told Ians.
